I had been online looking for affordable health insurance a few months ago. I gave up and quit looking. Then last week, a guy called me from AWA describing very affordable insurance for me and my husband, who has a pre-existing condition. Red flag: when I asked him to mail me more information, he said he didn't have anything to mail me, other than what was on the website. I told him that sounded very strange to me. I think I was right. After reading other complaints and comments here, I am declining when he calls me back and will certainly not give him any personal information! Chalking this up to experience. No harm done, thanks to websites like this! Thanks!

I spoke to AWA today. I have talked to several insurance agents lately and this agent made out like we had spoke before, which I don't remember doing so. I was wanting BCBS insurance and she made out like that was the insurance she was selling, but under a group workers plan. It just didn't sound right so I asked for her website. I looked at the website and it didn't look like BCBS insurance to me so googled the company and find nothing but complaints, not one thing positive. I hope they lose my number. Someone really should shut them down, sounds like fraud, but what do I know.

I am in the process of switching to AWA and they did say that coverage for pre-existing conditions would not start for 12 months UNLESS I provided them with a certificate from my current provided that I have coverage. As far as the prescription benefits go, I was told my "co-pay" would be $10 for generics and I believe $25 for some name brand. The agent then went it to great detail to let me know the formula for what I would pay for the high-end name brand.

If you have diabetes, you are considered "uninsurable" by the major insurance companies so don't waste your time there. In October, ObamaCare will change those rules and coverage by the Majors will be available to everyone.

Has ANYONE had a good experience with AWA?

I have been shopping for Health Insurance for several months, unlike most of these other people I have no preexisting conditions, no medications and in good health. I am just self employed and tired of paying high cost insurance rates that I never use. I was contacted by an agent selling AWA insurance and having talked to many agents and asking lots of questions have become somewhat educated on plans being offered and their coverage. I was sold on the low cost of $200 per month including vision and dental with no deductable. AWA did sound to good to be true to me as well. However, the agent did explain clearly the prescription benefits and their 12 month policy on preexisting conditions. My concern is if and when I have a major medical occurrence what will they actually pay? What will be my out of pocket ? I do have a catastrophic illness and accident policy from another carrier but I am still concerned about getting stuck with major hospital bills should something happen to me. Does anyone have experience with a major hospital visit?

Agent called and called and called...each time leaving a message to call him back. Today, finally, I picked up, and he said that they were "brokers of insurance" and could get me the best deal for my area. After asking zip code and our ages, he quickly came up with a great product...I do not recall him ever saying "insurance". As a retired Dentist, I was immediately suspicious of the amazing offering he described, but really hoped I was wrong. He told me he enjoyed talking to someone who understood insurance so well, and I was clearly very smart. What a fast talker! And, as I had him go over several scenarios of payouts, he conveniently, perhaps, never talked about surgeries or expensive hospital stays. Seemed to avoid it by describing simple office visits over and over...including drug costs. Ironically, I started to feel a little sick listening to his slick answers. I told him I would do some research, and talk to my wife. That did not seem to put him off. He was very insistent that I ask him all the questions NOW! Of course, had I given him my "refundable credit card charge" he would pocket a minimum of $99. What a racket!

I signed up with AWA on December, 2012. I left a group policy for the small business I own, that I was paying way too much for, with a high deductible. I basically paid for all my medical out of pocket in addition to paying the high premiums. I tried to get an individual plan for myself, and was turned down due to pre-existing conditions (minor). I contacted AWA myself, knowing that it was not insurance. I needed something to cover doctor visits until the 2014 rules went into effect concerning pre-existing conditions. I have used my doctor visits, and received a refund check for the balance not used on those visits on 2 occasions. I have used the consult a doctor on several different occasions and always received a prompt response and meds called in to the pharmacy when needed. My pharmacy was covered under discount programs through either their association or discounts offered through individual pharmacies. I did not use any of the hospital or lab benefits, and am very thankful that I did not have any major medical expenses this past year. I will be covered under the Affordable Care Act in 2014. This plan was a life saver for me in 2013. Went into the program with eyes wide open and lots of research. Health Insurance it was not, but health cost coverage as a temporary fix.

I have had this SO called insurance since 8/2012. It doesn't cover anything, and beware of the so-called provider listing. I needed an x-ray, MRI and EMG; according to the provider listing both facilities were participating, however, once all testing was done to the tune of nearly $8000 - guess what? They are NOT participating providers, when I argued w/AWA and sent them a fax showing their own provider list (printed 1 day before the testing) they said it was my responsibility to check w/provider. I then sent them a fax showing the 2 providers were still listed (3 months after they denied payment to them), they said it didn't matter, the 2 facilities were NOT providers. STAY AWAY FROM AWA, I just cancelled mine in December (they do NOT offer plans that meet the new ACA rules. RUN FAST - VERY FAST.

I too have this rinky-dink insurance. THIS IS TRULY A SCAM. I signed up with AWA in December, 2013 and everyone that posted a comment are correct. This insurance is not worth the money. They should be reported to the better business bureau.

When you purchase something that has "zero-deductible", you are purchasing a supplemental or fixed benefit health insurance plan... they are meant to help with actual major medical health insurance with a deductible so that the entire cost is not coming out of your pocket until the deductible is met. I have had insurance through the AWA for quite some time now and have a major medical policy AND a fixed benefit plan- they work exactly as their website and information says it will.
The agent I spoke with explained these things to me very well. If you have a problem, call the AWA's customer service reps, because I have spoken to them multiple times before as well- they will connect you with an in house agent that will help sort out your issues if customer service can't do it.
