Bettet?
Finally on the Apple TV! The layout is great and it looks like the Dev Team spent a lot of thought into designing this App for On Demand Streaming. It’s really cool how they have Behind The Scenes clips that accompany the episode you want to watch. Adding bonus content onto the app is a great way to to make this app feel more full. Who buys Blu Ray TV Seasons anymore?
My only gripe is the time window they put on episodes. I went on vacation and missed an episode of Better Call Saul and I had to stop watching it because I didn’t want to skip an episode and I still can’t get caught up because that episode isn’t available in the App. They only have the latest half season of Walking Dead available (for 30 days) with the rest having only the extras available. Same with Breaking Bad. The only available episode is the finale. All the rest are extras only. So as much as I like the layout and the extras added this app is still pretty useless. It should be great if you want to stay current on your show but the only show they have on atm is Fear The Walking Dead. So unless you watch that there is no reason to use this app since so can’t really watch anything else
Pretty Bad
UPDATE 2: Got help with support on how to use Apple Air and still be able to have my device locked. This App works perfectly! Thanks Guys. My cable provider doesn't currently let me have access to the New AMC app for Apple TV so this is the next best thing. I love the new update. Thanks Again!
UPDATE: AirPlay improvement update works. I use my phone to AirPlay my favorite shows but it still doesn't quite work in the way other apps use the AirPlay function. If My phone screen locks, AirPlay stops working. This isn't the case for many apps that have tapped into the true potential of Apple AirPlay but it is definitely way better than before. I couldn't even see an image on my screen before. Just sound.
People complaining about why they can't watch stuff for free are just wasting valuable space for proper feedback.
The real problem with this app is its function with Apple AirPlay. It crashes during a commercials and exits AirPlay and just doesn't work. If the app developers don't want to waste time fixing this function then an app for Apple TV would be nice. I use AirPlay for many apps on my phone that aren't available for Apple TV and they work fine. This is the worst I've used so far.
HORRIBLE PERFORMING BUG RIDDEN GARBAGE
I have to laugh every time they come out with the revision and see that there’s some kind of performance improvement. This app is really a piece of garbage.
1. No 15-second rewind.
1A: The timecode bar at the bottom that enables you to scroll to different parts of the show (since there’s no 15 second rewind) is tiny! Good luck! if you miss something and you want to go back you Likely will go back too far. Then you will be forced to rewatch all the commercials that you just watched. Sometimes you have to watch the entire set — twice. In fact I had to watch one set of commercials three times. Two other times, even though I went back what looked like a minute, I went through two sets of commercials and it started playing the show from the beginning.
2. Watching an episode of fear The Walking Dead, after going through four commercials the show skipped ahead 15 minutes. Later it skipped back 10 minutes. It’s a Potluck app!
3. AMC decides to give you an entire season of some shows and only three or four episodes of another.
4. Since I can only watch the last 4 episodes of Better Call Saul (they want to charge you to watch season 4 from the beginning) I am done with this crap station and app.
Barely usable and almost laughable
The AMC app is truly one of the worst tv/cable watching apps. How and why there is no support to stream to Apple TV or Chromecast is beyond me. Trying to use screen mirroring to either Apple TV or Chromecast can be maddening with numerous interruptions, lagging on audio (out of sync where lips aren't moving correctly with audio etc), poor image quality and outright crashes. It isn't my network or connection either as I'm in an urban area with excellent network speed and stability. Generally, on its own watching directly off iPad, phone, tablet is "ok" but unless you're on the go it's the ability to stream at home that counts. Of course you also get the obligatory commercials and loads of them. Another huge gripe I have, which I normally don't have with other tv apps like watch espn, HBOgo, or even Netflix and Hulu etc., is that it CONSTANTLY needs me to log in. With other apps it happens occasionally, but not frequently. With AMC I can turn app off and literally log back in a minute later and I'm needing to find my service provider and enter the password. It gets ridiculous. I honestly can't think of a time I've used the app where I haven't had to fiddle with this or that, or close and reopen it. How AMC hasn't worked out the kinks in this app by now is beyond me.
AN EVERLOVING HOT MESS OF AN APP
Good Evening,
We love AMC. We love the shows. We HATE your app.
We have Charter Spectrum cable access.
We use the brand new Apple TV. Though this also happened with the old one.
Our wifi is extremely fast at over 65bps.
Our tv is new.
There is no technical flaw on our end.
However, your app crashes. Stops to run commercials (which we understand it isn't commercial free), when it comes back from commercial (5 min at MINIMUM) it returns to the BEGINNING, we fast forward to get to where we were, AND IT GOES BACK TO OVER FIVE MINUTES OF COMMERCIALS.
ONE 45ish minute show takes an hour and a half! What the heck is going on that it crashes repeatedly?
For a group that makes such incredibly intelligent and entertaining shows, your attention to detail in this regard is embarrassing.
What is your plan to fix your app?
It's no wonder that out of 322 ratings to date, you have ONE STAR.
AT this point tonight we have spent the last FIFTEEN minutes in a loop of commercials, then Starting at the beginning, fast forwarding, only to be taken back to your infuriating commercials.
Since we started watching your show altogether this evening we are at over HALF AN HOUR of commercials and 17 minutes of actual show.
Fix it. You can do better.
AMC FAN, app hater.
Lots of patience required
Usually I do not do this, however, considering this app seems to be getting worse by the week and my current experience exhausted all patience I was driven to write. 1. Each and every time I use this app I am required to log in to my service provider. I don't actively log out and I'm the only user...so why?
2. Often times when trying to log in to said service provider...it fails to login...next screen doesn't load, says it timed out OR sends you back to the AMC home screen and when you try to select your programming you're directed to login again...so you're stuck in a loop of nothingness.
3. If you're so lucky to actually login to your service provider and proceed to play your desired program...most recent episode of The Walking Dead in my case...it may NOT PLAY. The extras and everything else I don't care about at the moment will play...but NOT the desired episode.
4. Oftentimes when using AMC via Firestick, I have to restart the stick to get proper functionality every step of the way.
In summary, the app is a HORRIBLE representation of the fine programming AMC produces and gets worse by the week. You would think with all the commercials you have to endure some of this revenue would be directed to the proper development of this app. Much patience and time is required...dear developers, please do better...quickly.
Terrible Episode controls
Hey AMC, I just want to say that first of all the only reason I'm using your app is because I want to watch FTWD on my phone, but the way you show episodes is horrible. The episode controls are not layer out well, it's imprecise, you have to move the time bar back and hope you don't go back to far, a 15 sec repeat button would be nice AMC. Additionally, as you watch the episode, it's still divided into blocks segmented by commercial breaks, meaning if you want to watch something from earlier, it because the controls are so finicky, you accidentally go back too far, you have to watch the same stupid commercials again after already watching them enough. Also please show the first bit of episode and then commercial break, in order to watch, we prove to you we already have a subscription, so please don't shove in as time just because we're watching on our phones. Also please establish some sort of system to where the app records what subscription you have, so that every time you watch a new episode, you have to log back in. Finally, and this is small, but it really annoyed me, please for the love of God, don't show an add during the commercial breaks for the show I'm already watching. I'm already watching your stupid show, please don't advertise it to me. Make this a general thing, do not show ads of the show people are watching when they're actually watching the show.
Hope you like commercials
Anyone who’s ever watched the AMC channel has probably noticed they have more commercial breaks than any other station. Like they showed Moneyball a while back.. the film itself is 2 hours 13 mins. The time slot they gave it was over 3 hours long. That’s more than 45 minutes worth of commercials.
Well the app is no different. Every 4-7 minutes, you get another 2.5-3 minutes worth of commercials. AND THEY WILL SHOW THE SAME EXACT COMMERCIAL 3 OR 4 TIMES IN A ROW. While watching the second episode of Gangs of London, the first 5 commercial breaks played this mind-numbingly stupid AT&T commercial 4 times in a row each break. It was the one with their spokeswoman “Lily” using a whiteboard that’s set up to look like she’s drawing out a play in basketball to explain their deals to two customers...
Oh, and if you try to use the button that rewinds 15 seconds in case you missed something, it sends you directly into another full commercial break. So I’d pay CLOSE attention to what you’re watching unless you want another 3 minutes of McDonald’s and AT&T ads... those are their two biggest sponsors at the moment.
And by the way, do the writers of that commercial really believe that by alluding to basketball and having a few basketballs in the shot that they’re “appealing” to fans of the sport? The writers must be just as dumb as the so-called “humor” they stick into every last commercial.
Okay?
I downloaded this app as the only way to watch season two of preacher. I watched season one on Hulu, decided I liked it, but it was too late. The second season had already aired so I couldn’t watch it live or DVR the show. I downloaded this app and started watching the show (after a lengthy process of running in circles before finally getting to watch, then finding out you have to repeat said lengthy process before watching any more episodes) but three days later they took the show off of the app. I’m not in show business but I am in business. This, to me, seems like bad business. I won’t be apart of season three’s ratings if I can’t finish season two.
I checked Hulu thinking it would be on Hulu, seeing how season one is on Hulu, (I thought maybe, Hulu said to AMC, why would people pay to watch on Hulu if AMC is letting people stream for free) but it’s not on Hulu. I also checked Netflix, also not on there. So how do you catch up? Seems like a weird question these days, right? (I’m not the type of person to steal movies or shows) I’m not going to pay Fios, my cable provider, $1.99 an episode to watch OnDemand. I pay enough already for cable. I also pay for Hulu and Netflix on a monthly basis. The show just isn’t that good, but I still wonder why I have the shows app but they took the show off. Why would you do that?
Bad business or maybe I’m not seeing the bigger picture or any picture I want to see. Still, none the less, I won’t be a part of season three’s ratings.
Horrible, Glitchy App
I use the AMC app on my Apple Tv 4 (ATv4). Actually, the word “use” is a bit deceptive since the app is nearly always unusable. Each time I try to watch an episode of FTWD it will either randomly skip like 5+ minutes ahead of where I’m currently at in the episode or revert back to the first few minutes of the episode. When this happens it also screws up the audio. I’ve tried deleting and reinstalling the app etc. No other app on my ATv4 has these issues. They all work perfectly. I’m going to try using the app on my phone and just screen mirror or airplay to my ATv4. If that doesn’t work, I’m going to delete the app. I’ve read of others having these same exact issues with the AMC app on their Apple TVs and Rokus. Some of these complaints are nearly a year older than the one I’m writing now. It’s rather astounding that this issue has been voiced by many others so long ago and yet the issue is still not fixed. One would think the goal of any app developer would be to create a reliable app that performs as advertised so that more consumers will be inclined to use the app that the developer went through the trouble to create. I’m genuinely interested as to how this hasn’t been fixed by now and why such incompetence is tolerated in a corporate setting where the sole goal is to make as much money as possible by creating the best and most reliable app possible to motivate increased usage by consumers. But perhaps I’m being too harsh by expecting something to work as intended and advertised.
Terrible
This app should be shoved back into AMCs officials ()()
1) AirPlay? Works about 5% of the time. Out of those 5% though, half the times ads will destroy the stream or AirPlay. Only sound, no video; no video, only sound. Sound from tv, video on the phone. You name it - everything is possible.
2) log in? SERIOUSLY? Your shows disappear in 2-3 months, there is no back catalogue, your ads are the same crap that runs every 3 minutes of the show, and you want us to have a cable provider login on top of that? How about I never use or watch your channel just because of this crappy disrespectful way of presenting your content to a consumer?!?
3) glitches? Well, I don't know what high school student wrote your app, because it doesn't work on any iOS device I have properly, no matter if its latest a or not. I'll get lags, freezes, multitasking kills the streams and resets them, ads are blocking everything, tapping them will launch browser and than possibly reset the whole stream, kill AirPlay, log u out and make a p00py pile at your front door too. I don't know if there is any part of the app besides the menu screen that's not totally screwed up
I can continue, if you ask me, but I'd rather just go and watch something on Netflix, Hulu or Amazon prime, because those services actually work and make sense. And give you options to not have apps, or watch while seasons.
----
STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS
And give it negative 1000 stars, just so AMC starts respecting its audience and live in the 21 century.
Ohhh man
I've never written a review of an app...never. I felt compelled to though after the painfully awful experience I just had trying to catch up on The Walking Dead. First, what's up with your ads? Not with the fact that they play too frequently, but that when the do play, they only play in snippets and generally break the playback functionality. I mean, to me, a million other apps out there have this down, spot on, no issues. What's the disconnect? Why does your platform have such difficulty supporting 15 & 30 second spots? Do your sponsors know that the app skips and only plays back maybe half the time listed for the app to play (I'll bet they'd LOVE that). Let's be honest though, it's not the first version of your app that has had this issue; it's been a problem for a while now. Fix it.
Second, after your ad function kills playback, you have to jump back into the episode, attempting to find where you left off. I have a better chance of winning the lottery than having this happen within the first few attempts. The slide bar at the bottom makes it near impossible to relocate your place (suggestion: maybe add a magnifier function). You'll never guess what my favorite part is...because the app kicked you off while watching ads, the app will also reward you...WITH MORE ADS THAT SCREW UP THE WHOLE THING ALL OVER AGAIN!?! I feel like I'm taking crazy pills...!
That being said, you've got some work to do, AMC. After reading my review, maybe take notice of your overall rating and the ratings of those below...it should be saying something to you. (The app stinks)
Annoying? Yes. Lousy? No
It's been so long since I've watched anything that wasn't pre-recorded that I was initially annoyed by the inescapable commercials... but they are not quite so bad as the consensus seems to imply. The breaks only seem to be about 2 min long with 4-5 mini-commercials that fill that time. What's irritating is that it seems to be the SAME 4-5 mini-commercials over and over again.
What's far more annoying is the lack of any kind of playback controls other than to pause. No rewind to skip back and obviously no way to skip ahead (otherwise the commercials wouldn't be a problem)... which makes me want to ensure I never miss another broadcast recording.
As far as being watchable or not goes... yes, it would be much nicer if you could cast it to watch it on a regular TV instead of a mobile screen, but I must say that the playback was very steady, clean and rather high-quality. I just spent about three hours catching up on one missed episode of FtWD & its associated Talking Dead... and a bunch of bonus/extra stuff I hadn't caught.
Is it worth putting up with the annoyances to watch missed episodes? Yeah, it is. Is it worth using to watch the little bonus scenes & extras? Absolutely, because those generally don't have commercial interruptions - those seem to be saved for full episodes.
Does it make me want to take extra care to make sure I record episodes when they first air? You betcha! Do I want to use it routinely? Not really... but it's better than missing episodes altogether... if only marginally. It is definitely better than some of the other streaming video apps I've used (like, for instance, the STARZ app, which was truly bad enough to make me want to drop STARZ).
Can’t purchase or watch without logging in with a cable/satellite provider
My main issue with this app is the fact that they wont allow you to purchase it like a streaming service. The only way to gain access to the majority of the shows is to login in with your satellite or cable provider (and you have to have the AMC channel included in your package). Well the thing is, a lot of us have chosen to drop satellite and cable companies and pay for streaming services instead bc its much cheaper with plenty of content to keep us entertained. So why in this day and time does a network like AMC not offer a pay per month streaming option? There are plenty of ppl like me that would pay to watch our favorite shows like TWD & FTWD but you don’t give us that option. Idk maybe you cant at this time due to contracts with Netflix and Hulu, I’m not sure but it’s frustrating for us cord cutters bc we have to wait an entire year after the season airs in order to watch on those streaming services. I think you should consider making the app a monthly streaming service and if your wanting to keep the numbers up for cable and satellite you can work that out & just wait before releasing it on the app; like with TWD there’s a break in between the 1st half & 2nd half of the season so you could wait to release the entire 1st half till sometime within the break and then wait till after the rest of the season airs and then release the 2nd half on the app. The way the app works now it’s pretty useless to most of us, probably even people that have satellite bc companies like dish now have an app so you can watch on the go plus those that have satellite service probably already watched the show when it aired or recorded it to the DVR and therefore doesn’t need this app, JS.
Good but not great
With all the streaming available to us, some apps are simply better than others. AMCs App falls short of being great due to a few tedious setbacks.
First, I have to wait till the next day to watch current shows. I have a app from a competitor that starts with H and ends with BO. Their content is available as soon as it's available on cable. Others, like NetFlx release all their content at once. While I understand that AMC will not release whole seasons of new content, I'm shocked that it is not available as soon as it is released. One would think they will get up to speed with something like this.
Also...the commercials. Wow. Can we say annoying and broken. I understand advertising and what it is there for. AMC needs to cash in. I get it. But the commercials seem to be off from the tv breaks. In other words, when the show fades to black for a break, it will start up again and then go into tv ads. It's minor as far as the timing, but it really becomes nerve wracking if you're used to something else.
I'm not finished about the commercials...it's that bad.
I sometimes watch the same Ad 2-3 times in a row. To a point that it's having the opposite effect than what it's there for. It's to a point that I now hate Cap1 and will not purchase their stupid card. It almost seems I've seen the same spot more than the show I'm watching! It's a major turn off.
Patience is key with this app. It has so much potential to be one of the go to apps for streaming content, yet it seems as if their team either doesn't care or doesn't know.
I wouldn't count it out though. It's not as bad as some reviews state. I personally haven't experienced any crashing and I was happy I got to watch a missed episode of Walking Dead.
3 out of 5. Basic app. Basic features. Competitors are ahead of the game.
Oh, did I say the commercials were horrible?
No Longer Ridiculously Poor
Edit: 5/8 - I've changed my rating from 2 to 3 stars. This edit is to credit AMC and their app developers for fixing AirPlay streaming. I've watched two episodes since the update with no problems whatsoever. The quality is pretty good and the streaming is uninterrupted.
Also, as I read the other reviews, I realized that I have to eat my words. Why? I found out that they did indeed create an Apple TV app. In my previous review, I wrote that we wouldn't see improvement to this app or a TV-connected app. So, my apologies to AMC for theorizing about what I took to be greed on their part. They came through and it all works fine.
The rest of this review was before the latest update ...
_____________________________________
Two stars because it is poor but not useless. It works okay as long as you stick to watching on your mobile device. When watching on my iPhone, there is some freezing or repeat commercials but not too often.
Using AirPlay results in freezing after commercials. You try to trick it by switching back to phone during commercials and then AirPlay again when they're done. However, this results in "... video cannot be played at this time..." error. So, you have to start over, but now you can't swipe up to access the AirPlay controls. Swiping down doesn't work either. Your phone functions have become limited. You have to restart your phone. Rinse, repeat, curse, write a review ...
This company could not have hired a set of programmers so unskilled that they can't at least match the quality of any number of streaming apps out there. It seems that greed is the driver here. If you think about it, the fact that AMC offers no TV-connected apps supports this. They want you to pay again to watch on your TV. I say "again" because you have to have already paid your cable provider for the channel in order to use the phone app. This is not unreasonable in itself, as it is true for other networks (but they offer apps for TV-connected devices too). Now, if you want to watch a show like TWD again on your TV in a fashion that doesn't make you want to throw your phone or rip out your hair, then you have to pay iTunes, Amazon ... $3.00/show. I'm sure AMC enjoys a nice profit from this. So, when you have a show like TWD, why not milk it for all that you can? Why spend money on a phone app that connects seamlessly to a TV (AirPlay) when you've found that people will pay $3/episode to watch it again? Other networks offer TV-connected apps. They don't double dip as AMC does. So, don't expect an improvement in this app or a TV app for that matter anytime soon.
Ads. Streaming. CC. all bad
Firstly, the ads—there are way too many ads whenever i try to watch something. There are obvious indicators on the player timeline that shows whenever an ad will play, but an ad almost always seems to play whenever I fast forward/rewind. My best suggestion is to experiment with this by watch a one (1) hour series and see. I don’t know if it’s because the company/owners make money from disproportionately playing the ads for revenue? Or to encourage people to get ad-free premium? But I’m beginning to suspect that. The ads almost always seem to play whenever the video is interred with fast forwarding and rewinding.
Secondly—add a scrubbing feature. Whenever I try to find a specific scene I‘ve left off at, it’ll almost never put me at the correct scene I want (e.g. I was catching up on a The Walking Dead and I tried going to the forty-seven (47) minute mark and it kept taking me ten (10) minutes before that). And, again, it would play ads almost every time I tried to do it despite there being no ad marker near it. Even when I tried continuously tapping the 15 second skip, it plays ads.
From what I know, some media players have a slow/fast scrubbing option when playing videos on mobile. You should implement that—basically, when someone is searching for a scene, they can hold down the point on the timeline that they’re currently on, and the further up they drag their finger, the slower & easier it becomes to select a certain scene/frame. There are times where I try and select a time and it just won’t stop on the correct one and it makes me think my finger might have slipped when lifting it because it doesn’t have a slow scrubbing option.
Lastly—just a cumulation of things: The app crashes. A lot. It has a difficult time connecting to chrome cast. I’ve had to repeatedly close the app and disconnect to connect it properly. Also, whenever I’m using chrome cast, I always have to go back to my phone and toggle closed captioning off and on because it either never comes back on after the ads. Sometimes, if it does come back, the ads will throw the captioning off and show text from a scene that was twenty (20) minutes earlier than the scene actually playing (this applies to more than just chrome cast. Happened on my amazon firestick too). I‘m not deaf or hard of hearing, but I could imagine how this could prove itself to be difficult to someone who is. So please, fix that because I remember that actually being an issue years ago and it still isn’t fixed.
That’s about everything I can think of at the moment. I was trying to catch up on an episode and I spent ten (10) minutes just trying to get to one scene that’s minutes before the episode actually ends. But it just keeps playing ads over and over and over again. Anyway, hope this gets around to whoever can help out with this. The app needs work. Might delete it.
Horrible App user experience & functionality ruins the enjoyment of AMC programming
Ive been a QC technician for years, at a separate time in my life. So I know exactly when I see an awful piece of software.
Itemized issues (on appleTV alone, which has a very large market share) are as follows:
- navigation throughout the app has many issues. This can be experienced on AppleTV or on the mobile app. E.g - during content, if you nav down in to access the subtitles page, then if you nav down to the OFF, Auto & Eng button menu. You can pick an option if you only nav once. But if you accidentally nav multiple times it starts to navigate off the menu barrier thru several invisible buttons that aren’t even on screen at the time. You can hear a bunch of navigation sounds as if it’s going thru several buttons but there is only 3 buttons on screen that you can select in this specific example. I noticed this primarily on AppleTV but I’m fairly positive that if it’s happening on one device it’s probably happening on other devices or components (in the same or different manner) cause that’s just the nature of software.
This same navigation issue is exhibited throughout the entire menu interface even if you’re in the main menu, the any TV series or movie sub-menu or sub-page. Navigation is broken throughout. There needs to be a functionality barrier when navigating in any page so that you can only nav to the buttons visible on screen no matter how many times you scroll in the direction you choose. Please fix the button navigation. It’s awful on Apple TV and similar devices.
-if you are watching a program and you just finished watching a commercial break and your program starts, but then you choose to jump back a few seconds because you missed what someone said a instead of it jumping back to the moment the commercial break ended, it takes you ALLLL the way back to rewatch ALLLLL the commercials you just watched, and there’s no way to skip them even though you already watched them. HORRIBLE.
- during program playback, sometimes the DOWN arrow at the top of the screen (on appleTVs - a graphic that shows you that if you nav down you can access the subtitle menu) sometimes this arrow graphic gets stuck on screen and you have to nav up, then back down to get it to the playback timeline in order to get the graphic to disappear. This graphic can cause burn in on consumers devices so this should be reconciled immediately.
- you can navigate using the D-Pad on certain devices. This app forces you to use the scroll/side functionality on remotes in order to navigate thru any menu interface. This is the only app that does this. No other studio or entertainment apps force the user to use this form of navigation only.
-On ALL other apps, if you want to jump forward during program playback you can pause then scroll forward along the timeline to land on your desired location of the program, or, you can press the forward button on the D-Pad to jump forward in 10 sec. increments. However on this app the only option they allow you to use is the former: you have to use the scroll bar to jump forward in time during a program, which would be fine if it worked, but it doesn’t, it’s completely broken, cause the slightest move forward and it takes you to the end of the program, or the slightest move backwards and it takes you to the beginning of the program.
I could go on and on with many more listed issues, but you’re not paying me, so I’ll stop here.
AMC I hope you see this: we love your shows but the app you got is horrible and it’s ruining our overall enjoyment of the content you put out. Sorry not sorry.
AMC Complaints 16
False advertising
Before I signed up for the premiere version, the listed shows included Alcatraz, a short-lived Fox show from several years ago, with a couple of trailers available to view with the standard version of the app promising the full season with the premiere version. After signing up for the premiere version, the same trailers were still the only available content. Upon lodging a complaint with AMC, I got the standard “We’re working on it” response. Yesterday, Alcatraz disappeared from the site entirely. Even a search revealed nothing. Upon lodging a second complaint I received a response requesting me to tell them the device I was using, my cable provider and whether they carried AMC. After providing the required responses, I again received the same canned response that they’re working on it. If they don’t reinstate the content I signed up to view, I will be calling my bank to dispute the charge on the grounds of false advertising. I suggest anyone else in the same situation do the same.
Botched AirPlay execution
An essay was forming, decided that was the incorrect route. Shorter, sweeter, and to the point(er):
- AirPlay is completely gimped in this app. Though I eventually managed to get it started, the problem is that each episode of the show I was watching was peppered with ads. Ads are understandable, that’s not the problem. The problem is that those ads—at least when using AirPlay—are broken. They don’t finish playing, and when it gets back to the actual feature you’re watching, you’re lucky if that even starts up again.
- The tap targets are tiny in this app. On my iPhone 6s Plus, trying to hit the back arrow from a video is impossible while it’s playing, and only slightly more possible if I pause it before hand.
- Not using the built-in gestures is a bad idea. There’s no reason not to support “swipe to go back”, so I would suggest using it.
Other than that, it did the job I needed it to. Even though it took me on average an hour and a half to get through 45 minutes of actual feature programming.
It’s 2022 fix your app
Bro fix your app or hire people that know what to do! Every movie/show app even the bootlegs have a better app than you! I been on this for years uninstalling and installing, and only reason I install is because I want to watch new episodes and pray that you guys fixed problems but is the same for years! You have good shows fix this and you’ll make more money with better reviews and people. NETFLIX, hulu and Amazon prime killing you guys and you have good stuff! This the only app I watch shows that are like SD! And then if I exit I need to restart the episode…and man don’t get me started on commercials, ya have more than the Super Bowl! And they go on forever… nobody likes to watch commercials when we watch out shows we like to go thru it straight! I re watch the walking dead on Netflix because you guys can’t fix an app in 2022! And new episodes I watch here cuz I have to! Man hire me I’ll learn how to fix all this in a month trust me on that, I’ll do a better job than whoever you have working for you!

Can No Longer Trust AMC
1) AMC Premiere is offensive. I pay for cable, I should not have to pay additionally to watch shows I already pay for. I’m not talking about ad-free, I’m talking about not being able to watch them at-all – because at least on iOS the vaunted season premiere of Better Call Saul is not available, even when logged in through my cable provider, without AMC Premiere. AMC deserves every expletive thrown at at.
2) The app for which AMC wants users to pay extra DOES NOT EVEN WORK! Who are these people? App is broken on iOS, iPad, Roku AND AppleTV. On top of which AMC, presumably to drive traffic to its app and to steer users to pay for AMC Premiere, has not made the premiere available for purchase on iTunes or Amazon. The levels of incompetence and greed are laughable and horrible in equal measure.
AMC, you are officially the least cool network and I so wish Better Caul Saul had nothing to do with your racket. You’re worse than Saul – at least he does whatever it takes to get the job done and retain customers.
So much for Full Episodes WITHOUT A LOGIN!
So much for watching Full Episodes without a login. One day you can and you even let us know how many days we have left to watch Preacher, Halt and Catch Fire, Turn, etc. Then the very next day you have 0 days to watch any full episodes. Thanks for nothing. Make up your mind. Either allow free viewing of full episodes in season with ads or go with a subscription based service without ads. Cutting off cord cutters = lower series ratings + lower ad revenue! Have you seen the 18-49 numbers for Cable and even FREE TV? Even the great TWD hasn't been immune. Enjoy your Xfinity Premiere $ for now. The Cable TV industry is dead. In 5 years it will be all Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, HBO, and a few other services or channels that viewers are willing to watch and possibly pay for. I thought AMC understood that and was content with cord cutters, cable subscribers, and Netflix and Hulu subscribers all being able to watch their share of AMC content. Evidently the Xfinity pay day was worth more to you than your viewers!
Terrible app gone worse
I don’t ever go out of my way to write reviews for things, but I cannot help but write a review for this app. I can’t speak for the premium version, but the “free” version has absolutely gotten worse over the last few months.
Commercials have increased in duration and frequency which makes this not so free anymore. I’m sure it is a ploy to get you to sign up for the premium version and/or AMC is not signing up enough premium subscriptions.
Don’t dare think you can quit the app and come back to the same place you left off. Often times it’ll put you in the commercial break before the scene you were on, then as you are approaching the place you left off on, it’ll put you right back in the same place when you opened the app to continue your show. This will also occur if you try to fast forward to the scene you left off on.
In summary, there are a lot of issues and I’m not sure if AMC even has the urgency to fix it as they will continue to make money off their busted app. I guess you’re better off watching the show live with less commercials.
Poor performance with big potential
AMC shows are too good to be served on this app. I think the reviews that came before mine speak for themselves so no need to pile on.
What I would say is I would be hooked on the AMC app all day if it had better ad management that was relevant, easy to consume and NOT AMC show plugs. If the transition between show and ad was seamless and didn't disrupt the experience whether using the app on a mobile or over AirPlay or streaming to another device. If the content was simply and truly on-demand and episodes didn't come with an inexcusable expiration date.
I would be more satisfied quite frankly if AMC would abandon their app ambitions and sign a few distribution deals with Hulu, Netflix or Amazon where most of my friends prefer to consume premium shows.
Let's face it, success with content doesn't always translate to success with getting that content to consumers. If AMC took the same care it does in choosing great shows with how they served those shows... it's more than likely they can convert me from a 30 minute "tolerator" to a binge watching fan again.
AMC Premiere - Non Stop App Signing Issues
How can the app really be THIS bad? I pay for AMC premiere. BUT neither the iPhone app nor the Apple TV app will actually let me sign in with it. The iPhone app asks me to subscribe when I click login. No, I’ve already subscribed. I’m not doing it again. Just let me login like I wanted to when I clicked “login”. Not rocket science. The AppleTV app wants me to sign in with my TV provider after logging in with my premiere credentials. BUT I’ve already done that to even get this far in the app and it just spins and spins rather than generating a code to login again with my provider. I don’t get it. If I’ve already signed in with my provider to even get to the point of signing in with my premiere credentials, why would I need to do it again? Why is this app so useless and broken? I’m cancelling. If the commercials weren’t so painful to get through I wouldn’t have even tried Premiere. I guess I didn’t really want to watch Walking Dead anyway. Useless app and useless subscription. Not worth the hassle. I’ll just wait for it to hit one of my other steaming platforms that actually functions.
NEEDS A LOT OF WORK
Seems like I’m in the iOS boat with others. When I open the app it states slow speed connection or something to that affect even though I’ve got full speed LTE. Everything seems to load up and look fine until you click on an episode to watch. That’s when the spinning buffering wheel of doom appears and the episode will never load no matter how long I wait.(15 minutes was the longest while I done other things) So then I thought well maybe it’ll work fine at home on WiFi with 100 mbps speed. I’m finally able to get the episode to play but the resolution is so grainy and is absolutely terrible to the point I can’t enjoy watching it so I don’t, I switch to other streaming providers. I am checking back periodically to see if they’ve resolved their issues, but not as of today 1/23. This is all a shame because AMC has is one of my favorite channels (lots of good programming). So as my title states “needs a lot of work” and until the resolution is at least 720p instead of 20p and starts working on my iPhone 6s Plus running iOS 11.2 I have to give it one star because it won’t let me give it a half star.
So Bad That I Had To Write My First Review Ever
I have been using the App store for several years and I have seen my share of bad apps. Usually these come from very small developers so I am not usually surprised. When i downloaded the AMC app, I did not expect Netflix quality but I did expect something that was at least functional. Unfortunately I got neither. What I got instead is an app that doesn't even work 90% of the time (won't even play the videos) and when it does work, I still have a laundry list of complaints ranging from "The video play back software not flipping the way I have my device oriented" to "The ads REQUIRING 1080p play back so when you have a slow connection, it forces you to buffer the entire ad in full HD which turns a 30 second ad into 2 minutes of buffer time plus the 30 seconds it takes to play the ad times 4 since they almost always make you watch 4 ads every commercial break." This app is so bad that it has compelled me to write this review, which is the first review I have ever written in all the years I have been using the app store. I hope that AMC fixes the issues but looking at the reviews, it doesn't look like they take our feedback seriously.
Way behind the times!
I would like to actually say this is a good app. But it is not. It only lets you log in if you have a cable provider. What if I don't want to deal with a cable provider and still get the program's your app offers. Can't. It does not exist. Why not? Yes why not? In this day when apps can be changed at a few key strokes, one can not deal directly with a tv program provider and not go through a cable provider. There was a time when one could get tv programs and not have a cable bill. Well I don't want 100 mill Chanel's and I don't want a cable bill. I want to watch just the program's I want and I don't mind paying for that content but when an app that allows cable providers to log in but not have an option to buy the content I want then we have a problem. AMC could make so much more money by going direct to the watcher. They allow season passes or some way to buy access besides going through a cable provider. With apple in app buying capabilities it seems stupid not to get in on so easy cash. I hope AMC fixes this soon. A good tech or app developer could set this up with little to no problems. Easily recoup the cost and then so many more viewers.

Full Episodes Will Not Play!
Sneak Peek shorts will Play from this app, but full Episodes will not play. Many times there is also a slow connection message. When trying to watch a full episode, all you get is the circle of death. Other streaming apps work just fine (Netflix, Amazon Video, YouTube, Directv, etc.). AMC must fix this problem!
I am still experiencing the problem. I sent a detailed email to AMC customer service.
