Charged for student loans I didn't get
AES is charging me for student loans I did not take out. I attended Phillips Junior College, if you can say that, in July 1991 for 2 weeks maybe, my enrollment was terminated because I could not commit to their attendance policy. I have the document transcript proving this. I also did not have my GED at the time and was pregnant with my second child. My son was born 8/20/1991 and I didnt get my GED until 2/20/1992. The college collected loans on me from [protected] school year until [protected] school. I did not know any of this. the school then filed bankruptcy and AES refuses to let me out of these loans. I have sent them a complaint letter and all documents I have trying to fight this. they also have loans from a university that was sued and the loans were supposed to be removed from my account, which they also refuse to remove. they have all these hoops they want you to jump through but in the end do nothing. they are claiming that I owe $193,580.29 for an Associates Degree I got from my local Community College. I sent them a complaint and all documented proof I had that what they claimed was incorrect including their forged document changing the date on a supposed promissory note they say is mine and they still will not remove $72,000 from my account and refund $2887 they took from me paying fraudulent accounts first. there has got to be something someone can do about this. they are ruining my credit and they make it hard to pay on the legitimate loans that are mine. I desperately need help with this. studentaide.org wont help me, they keep referring me back to aes. this is crazy.
Desired outcome: i want the loans removed that i submitted to them in a 37 page complaint and i want the money I've paid them refunded and i want my legitimate loans sent to someone else.
My grants have turned into a loan
I just read recently March 26, 2023 that there had been lawsuit that AES has changed grants into loans and I did not know that they did that! I thought I still had my grants and that the US Department of education had them! So all being said is that when I look at the US Department of education in my grants are there but my loan has been transferred Several years ago to AES. So I’m a bit confused because when I call AES they say I do not have any grants so it all makes sense that when I read that there was a lawsuit that they changed grants into loans it all makes sense now. I want them to be turned back into grants.
Desired outcome: I do not see that the lawsuit had changed them back to grants Not sure if this lawsuit is still ongoing? It would be nice to find out!
Student loans
It’s so sad, reading these reviews and this parasite of a company is still taking advantage of consumers. I recently fell behind ONE payment, my credit score dropped over 100 points, I reached out to ask for a goodwill adjustment, and received a formatted response (because all AES does is randomly select a response without fully reading the request) telling me the balance owed is correct and if I want to formally dispute it, I need to fill out some form..hello..I was requesting a goodwill adjustment! So then, I reach out again..this time the response was no, requiring the credit bureaus to adjust our reporting will damage our integrity…seriously? They think they have integrity? I then started reaching out to executives, still no support. As it is, my balance and interest rate keep going up, been paying for years and balance keeps increasing? How does this continue being legal..reading these complaints, it’s happening to so many who are involved with this company! So, one missed payment and down over 100 points, now we may hit get our forever home..because AES “can’t” make an adjustment to their reporting because their”integrity” will be damaged. Just wow. I borrowed 20,0000 YEARS ago..and still owe over 20,000…my account was originally with Wells Fargo, and sadly, it got sold to AES..what. A nightmare! Not sure how these guys sleep. Went from 6% interest to now, almost 10%! I took the loan out on 2001, how does the balance increase?
Desired outcome: I am requesting a goodwill adjustment to three credit bureaus for 30 day late payment reporting Would also like to understand how a balance increases by such a large margin from 2001 to 2023.

Scamming payments that are not owed
In April 2022, all my Federal student loans were transferred to NELNET. I received the emailed notices from the Dept of Ed and from NelNet. In the meantime, I am enrolled in Doctoral Program and according to the Department of ED I am deferred until June 2024. AES plays the game that from the day one course in your program ends and another begins say within 30 days within that same program.. they claim that my loans are "delinquent." However, I received a notification from them last year in 2021, in the same situation, while enrolled.. and saw the "delinquent" on their account information page panicked, and paid them. I complained to the Dept. of Ed and within two weeks, AES emailed me that I had paid them because of an "internal error". OOPS, their mistake.. sorry.. Yet, they did not offer to refund the payment made. It was simply a fast and loose way to scam a payment that was never owed. Now in 2022, they are playing the same game. I am being contacted that my enrollment status has changed (FSA and NELNET show me in Deferment) and I am receiving notices that payments on loans that were transferred to NelNet in April 2022 are delinquent. The notice they say they received was dated 21 September 2022.. While the law says that payment will resume 60 days from the date of status change.. on October 4th I am magically delinquent. AES continues to use fraud and "internal errors" to scam payments.
Desired outcome: How can the Dept of Ed have one deferment end date and AES makes up their own? AES needs to respect the Dept of ED rule on deferment dates.
Customer service
#61509, I called in because I have been making payments on my loan, thinking that paying more than what is required would ensure that I would not have to pay each month because I am only working part time. I have previously spoken to two other reps who stated that my account should have been paid ahead because of those payments and that the feature had been taken off my account and a request was made for that feeature to be placed back onto the account. Today however at 2:30pm I speak with a rep who tells me that because of what I owe until I pay down my interest then my payments will go towards my principal and than I can pay ahead, she says this however in a tone that condescending and is speaking to me as if I owe her money for my education. If I had the money I would pay this debt off and NEVER be foolish enough to do this again! AES you need to do better! I am 54 years old, a special education teacher who will never make enough money to pay this debt and I dont deserve the to be given this run around from yoour so called customer service!
Desired outcome: Honesty about my account and a way to pay that isnt stressful for me
Still without power
On June 22nd a meter was taken off my house by the owner of the property and a bill for 6 days was added into my name with a false account after that 6 day period Aes stated I owed them a balance of 2914 a bill that was added in my name without my consent I have have called Aes over 200 times and I Know my calls were being forwarded to at least four people who insisted that the house need to be inspected as it was done I have yet to have services after suffering in heat with my children for three month's getting nothing resolved my account was cleared after filing bankrupt im still fighting as I have hired a private investigation
False reporting to credit agency
I woke up this morning to be notified that my credit score dropped 115pts. When I logged into Experian, I was told my exceptional payment history was now poor due to me being late on my AES loan for over 90 days - except I have Federal Loans. Last I checked, "The pause on federal student loan payments will expire on Dec. 31, 2022. Payments are expected to resume on Jan. 1, 2023."
I did lose access to an old email account and as a result I never got any notice from them, but I never received any documents sent to my home address. I've been living in the same place since 2007.
I called them today, but I could not get through. I chose the prompt to receive a call back and the system just tells me to stay on hold and wait for a representative.
Desired outcome: This incorrect info needs to be removed from my credit report.
Charging and interest during freeze
AES sent a late payment to my creditors during the Federal Student Loan pause. This date was for March of 2022. The Federal Govt has extended the pause until Aug 31.
My Federal Student Loan was originally with UHEAA stating 2006.
I attempted to resolve this issue through Experion twice.
Desired outcome: Taken off my credit report
I looked into this further and found I was wrong. I thought I had found that my loan was Federal, but recently looked into it again and found that it was not. This was my fault.

RE: LOAN #[protected]
#[protected]
PLEASE FORWARD TO LENDER
To Whom It May Concern:
We would like to request a settlement on student loan, in the amount of 1615.00 plus any
accrued interest for the month of February, 2022.
The original balance of this loan was 21,390.37 of which, as of January 7, 2022 statement, we
have paid 19,775.30 in principal and a total interest of 13,973.86. The January statement
shows a current balance of 5172.35. We understand that in the first year of this loan, when it
was distributed in September of 2005, that an additional 3557.60 in interest was added to the
principal. We were never informed when this loan was initiated that the interest would be
added and charged while our son, Evan was in school. We have been challenging this accrual
of interest since the beginning of this loan. We have satisfied the interest and then some and
we have faithfully been paying this loan monthly since 2007.
We respectfully request this loan be settled for the remaining principal less the first year’s
interest capitalization.
If you require any additional information, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Respectfully,
Evan C. Symmes

Desired outcome: To speak with a manager, Vice President or President.
Online payment system/customer service
Site will not let me login to make my payment, says "profile discrepancy"...though I've been making payments online for years. Called them, and they said that my name doesn't match what they have on file, and that's the issue. My name legally changed approx 14 years ago, ...and it's suddenly the reason my login information doesn't work to make a payment?! I paid most of mine off last year, name wasn't an issue then. Now, in order to login, I have to send them my DL and other documents. It won't even let me call and make a payment, it goes straight to customer service. I would really like reimbursed for all of my time they waste, and all the extra interest they added when they assumed the loan years ago. If it weren't for their extra fees, this loan would've been paid off last year.
Desired outcome: Let me pay my bill, as I have for years, without it taking hours of my time.
Incompetent billing and payment information
Poor customer service. Poor communication, poor billing and payment information. Lied about what information was “ notated “ on my acct. pulled money out when I was on a 120 hold for disability discharge loan forgiveness application. Zero CUSTOMER service SKILLS whatsoever. They talk over you, under your and contine to be tacky and rude after THEY made mistakes concerning my bank account information and payment information. Takes zero responsibility for THEIR mistakes. Costing me overdraft fees without apology or reversal DURING a 120 day HOLD for disability discharge. The women I spoke with today is incompetent to handle any problems, questions and/or responsibilities that she is supposed to handle . Her name is “Denise “ her Identification number is “ P608665. Department is supposed to be under “ CUSTOMER SERVICE “ and claims she has” NO SUPERVISOR or SUPERIORS “. This is unacceptable behavior and unprofessional actions. She is currently working from home, and apparently having a “ hard time” connecting me to anyone else who can possibly help me with their mistake if charging me for a payment while 120 hood is STILL in affect. I spoke with Robert in collections, Identification number 601890. He was able to tell me he could put in a reversal for the payment that was pulled, as well as document the insufficient fund fee of 34.00 from my bank due to this unauthorized payment transaction. I’m still waiting to see what the outcome is as of Friday, March 4, 2022.

Student loan
I have a student loan with them and I was paying like I was supposed to until January 2021z. Due to the pandemic, I was not able to make payments like I should and communicated with AES and the Collection Company associated with them. They said that they would not help me with a deferment and that I will be in default because of it. As a result, I received a judgment against me today for the full amount.
Student loan
Dear Sir/Madam,
When initially obtaining my student loan to go to the University of Phoenix, I was offered a Sallie Mae student loan, which unfortunately I am not able to locate the initial paperwork for. Nevertheless, I have been paying on this student loan for more than 13 years. The total amount now owed is up to $34, 000. I have paid 50, 000 up to now. I wrote the below letter to the present holder of the student loan, who is :
• "American Education Services".
• My Account Number is #[protected]
• Bill payer address: American Education Services P.O. Box 2461, Harrisburg, PA [protected].
I write this letter to you, in the hopes that you can help me come to a workable arrangement as to how to repay this student loan, to both of our benefits. As previously stated, I am a health care worker trying to negotiate a final "payment in full" and I was informed they do not negotiate. I find this stance to be unconscionable in this day and age.
I am 68 years old, a breast cancer survivor and have other medical issues which now force me into retirement during this Covid-19 pandemic. I have been a Medical Technologist my entire life, currently working at Advent Health/Orlando. Upon retirement and due to my physical hardships, I will now have to live on my social security check, along with my meager retirement.
I had not been planning on retiring at this young age, but due to my reduced income and the future of my medical bills, I worry about being able to take care of myself. These life changes and my resulting financial situation leave me in such a position, that making payments on this student loan would be excruciatingly difficult.
For these reasons, I respectfully request your assistance in negotiating a final payment to terminate this loan. I was instructed to file out the IBR paperwork at "www.studentaid.gov" per your request which I am not comfortable doing.
I look forward to your response ASAP, so that I may quickly organize my finances. You can reach me at the address listed below, as well as through my email (also listed below).
Thank you for your timely assistance in this matter.

I have been trying to get a reasonable explanation of why a student loan that when purchased by AES from another company had a principle balance of 42,000 currently shows that I have paid a total principle since 2013 of $51,000+ but still have a principle balance of 32,000. This makes no sense to me. From their own figures this account should be paid in full. But they give a bunch of word salad to try to explain it to intentionally throw customers off. Their system does not like you to schedule ahead for payments and after 1 or 2 payments drops the other scheduled payments so that before you know it they can tack on late fees. I need to see submit the info to the state attorney general but not sure if I need to do it in the state I currently live in or in the one I was living in when I got the loans. The whole student loan thing is sketchy and unregulated with these companies having little to no oversight.
Unethical behavior
Hello:
I have had this loan since 2005/2006. I asked my mom to cosign to get the loan for school tuition and expenses, and told her that when I got out of school and start repaying the loan, I would remove her name. I've been trying to remove her name from this loan for over two years. Every time I call, it's a different excuse why I can't remove her. My mom is out of work due to COVID. She cannot assist me with the loan, and anytime I'm a few days late, she is sent a late statement that stresses her. I work very hard to make all the payments on time, but sometimes, I am late, but not 30 days late except for one incidence described below.
I paid this loan approximately 10 years with no 30-day late payments. In March 2019, I missed a payment, not because I didn't have the money, but because I went through a VERY traumatic experience and simply forgot to make the payment. I was not penalized for the 30-day late payment, but my mom was, and during the time she was trying to buy a house. She and I both contacted AES and we were told by an extremely rude representative that we shouldn't expect "handouts" for lack of a better word. He pretty much asked why should AES help us since the payment was late. I asked that he just remove the 30-day notice from my mom's credit report so that she could get her house and penalize me, but I wasn't successful. My mom was penalized for my mistake, and had to wait 6 months for her score to go back up, so she wasn't able to get the house that she initially wanted.
We called a mediator for AES and she told us that AES typically does not forgive mistakes and that my best solution was to try to find someone else to refinance the loan. She stated that she could see that I had made years of of on time payments, but unfortunately, AES would not care. I was devastated. Why have a mediator only to be told, "I can't help you".
My mom has recovered from a very serious illness, but that illness requires routine health maintenance and a ton a medical bills. As I mentioned earlier, she is not working at the moment. Getting her name off this loan so that she can concentrate on her health is all I want. I would like for the company to remove my mom's name. She is not in a position to help me repay this loan. Why should they do this? I truly believe it's the right thing to do, and sometimes in life, people simply want a hand UP, not a handout.
Thank you for your time.
Best regards,
Porsha Truesdale

I am on social security disability. I have a psychiatrist and a case manager. I have to because I have a representative payee. They are my employee. I pay them money to provide a service. They make sure my bills get paid on time. Ever since shortly after covid I received not one single complain. My bill was paid on time. They mail all my payments. Now for whatever reason and I get mail also (Funny junk always shows up on time. lol) You either are not receiving my payment when they mail them in in the beginning of the month. Or for whatever reason. Now I am being charged late fees and receiving negative credit rating before sixty days. (Funny that always go through before hand) and I am getting sick of it. I am tired of getting late notices. Because either someone else is failing to provide a correct service (like usps). I am sick of this already. Now someone said I have to give her power of attorney. Whatever that means. Whatever is going on I want fixed. Not to mention people not showing up for work. I am tired of it already.
Desired outcome: I dont know what can be done
Loan
I have called and spoken with several of your staff members regarding my account and seem to get no one there who cares. I have a legit concern. My promissory note states that I owe 43, 000 and have paying since 2008 and the loan has barely moved. It states that I have paid 36, 000 but I am constantly being told that I took out a loan for 76,000 and I most definitely did not! I was most recently told by your staff that aes acts like a credit card accumulating interest such as. Absolutely ridiculous that your taking advantage of people who are trying to make a better life for themselves. I have a well standing account and have made every effort to keep my account that way. I now see many many complaints regarding your company... Sad... Just sad.
student loan
I took out a loan over 9 yrs ago and I still owe more then I originally borrowed from them. I asked them for to a settlement so I can pay it off and they denied it. They also took away my online & phone in payment options. I was completely caught up on my loan when making my payments on line. However, now I can only mail I money orders to them. They are crooks who should be shut dowv to scamming students out of more money. I would love to start a suit against as I'm not the only person in the same boat.
aes student loans
Received class action lawsuit forms quite sometime ago. Thought it was a fluke.
Aes reps haven't sent, or ever have, sent the correct paperwork I 've requsted. I get harrasing phone calls all hours of the night into early morning. My payment was suppose to lower. Instead they have requested the whole amount immediately. I am not in anyway in good standing anymore with them. I'm at a loss
When I was current on my loan payments, "they" still submitted to credit bureau I was late. Every month. Even in forbearance.
Started a downward spiral to my score..
loan servicing
Customer service with this company is beyond horrible. I email an inquiry to them in reagrds to whether or not a credit card coudl be used for payment. I have 3 children 8 loans of various amounts. I have been paying the loans for 7 years - not one late payment. The first email response didn't anser the simple question -just stated they could not give out account information. I wasn's asking for account information - just a simple question. I responded back to them that I am not asking for acount information -just anser the inquiry please. The second email the same story - but then said no. Which if fine - just an inquiry to see if I could apply any extra 500.00 towards my children's loans from a gift card my employer gave me. I then get a third email stating our loan accounts are blocked because of a security. We now have 8 accounts that we can't access until we call them. We have been paying 7 years no problem - no everyone has to call and un block their accounts. This organization needs to be checked. Their is no information to steal except address and name onsite. Would be nice to have someone login and make payments for us. What a waste of time and energy. We will have all loans paid off in 3 years - can't wait. Don't use this company. Many more affordable caring firms!
student loan
They acquired my loan from MEFA. In doing so took down the wrong birth date. From there on they have been unable to answer questions, unable to fix the situation despite my providing the required information and proof via phone and letter. They keep calling my retired father when they have my phone number. I'm a grown woman and they won't give me information as to why they are calling my father and not me, WHILE taking the payments from my bank account. I ask for a manager and get and escalation rep instead. All this is stemming from a mistake that THEY made in the first place. I'll will tell anyone who will listen not to do business with them.
