unresponsive, unethical behavior
I have been paying on my student loans for years, I originally took out $16, 000 and as soon as the deferment period ended, my balance shot up to $27, 000! My balance is at $22, 000 now and I have no job, no extra money as unemployment has not even paid me yet (2 months laid off now) and they refuse to provide assistance or options to pay.
I'm not allowed to contact the original lender, they do not provide any original information regarding the lender and claim they are the only people who I can speak to. I filed bankruptcy 8/9 years ago, and was told this could be included since I had applied for the loan through Chase bank. It ended up being a private student loan and was owned by National Collegiate Trust, sold to AES to service. They defaulted my loan and forced me into an agreement to bring me current instead of discharging my debt. I lost my home during the housing market crash and my job.
This company is rolling in the money on the backs of students who are being taken advantage of.

Oh my, where do I even start. AES is ruining our lives. I'm perfectly fine with paying my loans that I took out, that's not the problem here.
I moved to Canada after school, so I'm paying Canadian dollars into a USD loan. What a nightmare. My 7 loans have a payment altogether of $912 usd which is $1300 cad a month. That's more than my house payment! Every time they send me a form to fill out to lower my monthly payment, they deny it because... Get this... I do not make enough money! How stupid is that?! And they give me this form! What!?!?!
Then, they lost 6 months of my previous payments. How the heck do you loose payments? So they wouldn't accept my receipts (I have to mail in international bank drafts because they won't let me pay on the phone and will not take my canadian credit card). So all of my receipts show the days that the payment was paid and all the info they need, but they would not accept them. I fought with them for months, recieved about 12 phone calls a day starting at 6 am, my bank even called them multiple times a week to work this out.
Then, just this past month, they lost another payment and won't accept the receipt. My payment was 16 days late and they alerted whoever is in charge of credit scores and messed my co signers credit score up. Multiple employees of theirs have told me that credit scores are not touched until 60 days.
I have been told so many different things by so many employees. All say something different. So what is the truth? They definelty do not try to help you and it seems that they really do not want to get paid. And If you ask for a manager on customer service, they are SO RUDE! Talking over you, they will not let you speak. They do not want to help you and continue to say that it is your fault and you need to pay your loans. No [censored] Sherlock, that's what I'm trying to do!

The worst part is that the interest is so so high. Ok I get it, my mother took out the loan and signed for me. Yes, I will pay. But I'm paying CAD into a USD loan. My husband and I are re financing our house so we can try to put my student loans into our house with a much lower interest rate. This is so stressful! We're going to be paying this for the rest of our lives and probably have to deal with these idiots on a monthly basis.
Stop the hatrasment please, get your [censored] together, and stop "loosing" previously paid payments. UGH.

I'm the caretaker for my 83-year-old mother who's suffering from both dementia and leukaemia. I've her durable power of attorney and am legally able to act on her behalf and to protect her interests. I've been attempting to work with this company for some time and throughout they've been uncooperative, unprofessional, and downright rude. These people seem to have no respect for the rule of law or what's a legally enforceable document like a POA. AES has done nothing but respond uncooperatively and place obstacles for me to be able to access this school loan on behalf of my mother. My belief is that someone took advantage of my mother's condition and forged her signature for a loan where somehow she ended up as the primary borrower. Unfortunately, my mother can no longer recount the details behind this loan's history and so it's up to me to get to the bottom of things. Just today, after multiple interactions both through the mail and on the phone they now claim the record for my mother's dob that they have on file doesn't match her actual dob. This was never brought up as an issue before today, despite my having had told people multiple times what her actual dob was. This smacks of retaliation to me for having to have been aggressive in repeatedly contacting these people in attempts to protect my mother.

American Education Services [AES] Parent Plus loans are outrageous. Interest rates are increased to often, every three months. This is a total ripoff /scam. Why is there no forgiveness for parents trying to help their children? AES needs to be investigated. This company is a legal loan shark. When I try to lower my payment
I was told I had exhausted my options and there was nothing I could but pay them. Since 2004 to the present.I have paid more in interest than the cost of the freaky loan.

Our daughter had a "Student Loan" which we DID NOT Co-Sign...Which AES does not acknowledge. We have started receiving phone calls about once a day asking to speak to me and wanting my "Date of Birth" which I will not give them. I have told them to use a "Skip-Tracer" which they won't.
We don't know where our daughter is located (No Contact) and they won't give us the amount due on the loan, so we might be able to chip away at her debt without my date of birth...
Other than changing our phone number, what can we do to stop this harassment?
(1) AES calls first thing in the morning (before 8:30) and then again mid-afternoon every day -- hours when people are at work. I only know this because I check my phone log at some point later in the day.
(2) AES will not say who they are when you do answer the phone because you happen to be home. They will just ask for ___ and if that person is not home, they just leave a phone number and extension to call ----- they do not automatically identify themselves.
(3) AES will not say why they are calling, if you ask AND you are not the person they want . . . even if you are related.
It seems that if things are all that pressing, AES would leave a message either voice mail OR on an answering machine. NOPE. They choose to call the same two times every day when no one is here and only knows they called, as I said, because the phone keep a phone log.

customer service, i'm a co-singer reporting me to equifax and others without contacting me.
I co signed two small loans for daughter's schooling. She has been hospitalized and just gotten back home. I have been traveling. I received a letter she was some days overdue on payment. Same day my service of Equifax and other 2 service indicated my credit score was decreased due to non payment of these loans. The loan is like 50+ dollars. Always in the past if this happened the company has called and I've taken care of it but not this time. They reported it without not giving me a chance to fix this. I called tried to get the supervisor to fix this. She was rude and unhelpful.
A loan company should be wanting to receive their money back from people who borrow it. Isn't that the goal. This supervisor had the nerve to say they contacted me. I checked and they did call but left no voicemail. Who calls back when an 800# calls them. Many times polite young callers have called and I've paid several months in advance but it seems your people just want to be punitive.
I request the reporting on my credit be removed and someone who has some authority contact me. Your supervisors are rude and just say they don't have authority. No one them. They all need to be cut. They do nothing more than the clerks. Save money and call your clerks supervisors. Get people who can make decisions and make changes. That is who I want to speak to. When people call they want solutions not"I can't to that."

I need the name of an attorney to represent my case. I paid off my private student loan thru a chapter 13 in 1997. Yes 1997. I assumed all was well until in 2003 when all of a sudden I start getting letters that I am defaulted on a loan that was bought from Met then sold to Sallie Mae then sun trust. AES has taken my tax refunds, they made me pay 6 months rehab loan something to get my credit straight and then had the nerve to have my nursing license frozen so I could not work until I paid them money to get it reinstated. I sent proof over and over that it was paid but they said they needed to see where the money went when I gave it to the clerk for the chapter 13. I even talked to an ombudsman but they didn't reply when I sent them proof. The only reason I am not still being harassed is because I am disabled and the non loan was sent to Nelnet. it is still showing up on my credit report and my friend who is a city solicitor said I have paid over 15000.00 on a loan that was not owed. does anyone know of a good attorney that has dealt with them before?

No one likes dealing with customer service agents especially one involved in collecting a debt but this company is by far is my worst nightmare!
I took out my student loans through chase bank as an undergrad and since graduating apparently chase no longer does student loans AES took over my loans. Honestly, it should be criminal how they handle situations...
I have since entered into grad school and needed my loans placed in deferment. I have other loans that I personally didn't even have to communicate with and SOMEHOW they knew to defer my loans. But being an adult I decided to make sure I communicated with AES anyway. The first call the agent was such an imbecile I had to hang up, she kept repeating that my account was delinquent (which it wasn't) and taking me around in a never ending circle. From what I was able to gather I sent appropriate paperwork to my school and they would then fax the info to AES. My school did that and I heard nothing more until a collection agency calls my home. After talking with them I talked to AES again the girl said that she was going to send the forbearance form to the AES inbox--never was there. A week passes and the collection agency calls me again.
I would not recommend AES to anyone that values their sanity. I wish I never had to deal with them. Their customer service is deplorable.
They still want to get full debt
My daughter attended Brookes College and American Education Services. She got the credit and hasn’t finished the studies, so we have paid back the half of the credit and this college sent us notification and letters about the remaining debt. 4 months later this college was closed, but they continued to charge us for the credit. Is it fine? I don’t think and should stop it. Maybe someone can help me.

These people are so rude, clueless, and condescending. Apparently, they reversed my last payments on Christmas because of to many stopped payments. And they didn't tell me. What kind of sense does that make? When I asked to tall to whomever made that decision I was refuse because they said they didn't know who to connect me to. So, now I can't track anything. The interest keeps mounting and I don't know what to do. I'm paying them out of my ssdi check. Oh! And to top all this off the school I took out the money for is closing! ! For the third time, my payment through their online portal has not gone through. There is no discernible reason; I'm on time, I'm paying more than the amount due, and I even got a confirmation number. At what point am I able to sue for the damage this is doing to my credit?

I have purchased an item for my car back through AES Services and the seller and I have had contact. But now they keep putting me off. Today when I tried to email the seller, I understood that I have been blocked and my emails don't go through.
billing errors/customer service
Aes maybe a "servicer" but they are fraudulent. I have been paying double on my student loans and the principle has not gone down. I called several times to ask why... And they stated that I had to pay off all the interest first. I asked for a print out to see where my money has gone they said they would send me one... (I have called 6 times over the past year and have yet to receive it!) I finally had enough.. I called of the payoff and asked what it would be if I over nighted a check. I got that $ and sent a check in, over night. It is 10 days later and my account now says it's over due. I called and they said the pay off amount was wrong because by the time they processed it, a day later, the amounts didn't match and they sent the check back, a few days later. Please remember that I am accruing interest for their mistake and they will not do anything about it. I am so frustrated.

For two months in a row, I went on line to make my payment. However, AES took TWO payments out of my checking account both times! They refused to reimburse me for the extra payment THEY took out or any banking fees I had. THEY ARE HORRIBLE! I do not trust them at all!
misappropriation of funds
I have been paying on my daughter's Keybank loan through AES since April 2004 through online banking using the same account number and address from the beginning; I have never changed it. I paid $20 over the payment amount in hopes of getting the loan paid off early and then start paying on her Federal loans, which were under forbearance. In July 2012 my daughter received a letter stating that payment to the Keybank loan was late. It was understandable because I has having some financial difficulty and did not authorize payment until later in the month. Then in August she received another letter stating that she was in arrears. She called AES to find out how that could be when we were paying extra and discovered that AES has been crediting her loan payments meant to go toward her Keybank loan to her federal loans since January 2011! When asked how this could have happened the representative got very belligerent. We also discovered that there are now 2 different account numbers, the one given to my daughter originally in order to make payments and a different one now printed on the letters from Keybank. I wrote a letter with a report of payments from my bank and the result was a letter from Keybank demanding that the loan be paid in full. My mother, who co-signed the Keybank loan for my daughter has been receiving phone calls about this matter and when she brings up the fact that AES credited the payments to the wrong loans the representatives get very nasty and demanding but refuses to give any helpful information. She also wrote them a letter asking how this error could have been made and where we were to send the payments in order to ensure that they would go toward the correct account, but so far neither she nor my daughter has received any helpful information. I finally, on my own, figured out where to make the payments (I make them online now) but it angers me that over $1000 was accredited to the wrong loans and AES refuses to make it right.
customer serv is the worst and they have the worst policies
The Customer Service Dept. has got to have the rudest level of service that I have experienced in a long time. The reps are very condescending, almost like they went to school to be a customer service representative. I think they forget that if people do not take out the student loans, then you would not have a job. I can't say it's much better with direct supervisors. I'm done speaking with the people there, the next time I make a phone call it will be to James Preston. Lord forbid, you have defaulted on a payment, you are now the ### of the earth and they do not realize that lately a lot of people have been going through changes economically. The customer service shows no empathy, they have no options for you, and make you feel like the world is caving in on you and you have not choice but to sit there and let it happen. I have news for them, no matter how long it takes there will be some changes with that company. I hate to make a big stink, but I would never want another individual to feel the way I feel when I speak to anyone at that company. Especially, if you are trying to resolve your obligations and you are actually answering the phone when they are calling you. Some people have all the nerve. It's sad that a company would employ people with that type of attitude. If anyone, asks me about that company they will hear a mouthful and to run in the other direction because they are CROOKS!

student loan scam
To the person who is obviously an employee of AES. Try blaming this one on me, instead of the scam going on with the student loan system. As a single mother of three young children whose father ran off with another woman, I went back to school so I could earn enough to support my children and I. As a person with high values, I refused to place the burden of raising my children and supporting myself onto society. So, instead of accepting foodstamps, subsidized housing, free school books or lunches, or babysitting subsidies, I did it all on my own. I was proud of myself. I worked part-time, obtained scholarships, grants and subsidized student loans. I refused to take out any unsubsidized loans because I knew I could not pay them back while supporting a family by myself! So off to school I went and never missed a ballgame or any other childhood related activity. I worked hard, studied hard, and took care of my children like a good mom and a good citizen. I graduated with honors and got a good job. Being warned not to deal with anyone outside of The U.S. Department of Education, I refused all calls to consolidate my loans from any private agency. Boy was I so inundated with calls night and day and bonbarded through the mail, that I finally had to leave my phone off the hook half the time to get any peace. I got a letter one day from the "Offical U.S. Department of Education. I checked and double checked to make sure they were who they said they were. The letter head was dead on! I repeatedly asked them, "Do You actually recieve your paycheck from the U.S. Government and not a private company. After being 100% reasured that they were with the U.S. DOE I listened. They informed me that they were helping students who had Perkins and Stafford loans consolodate them at a lower interest rate to assist them so they only had to make one monthly payment instead of so many! The other plus side, I would be paying less interest plus if something happens under this consolodation and I needed a deferment or forbearance due to illness or unemployment, I would not accumulate interests during such times. Well, they sent the paperwork, with the U.S. DOE letterhead at the top. I read and signed and sent those babies registered mail. Six weeks later I received a call stating that they never received my signed papers. I faxed in a copy of my receipt from the U.S. Postal Service showing that someone in their office had signed for them. (And Yes, the address started with " U.S. Department of Education.") I received a call from a sheepish sounding woman a week later stating that they were just so sorry that they have lost my signed consolodation papers! Would I please sign once again the papers because if they didn't get them back and it started within two weeks, I might suffer penalties for not paying even though I still had not recieved any payment books or notified when and where to start paying for my student loans since I had just graduated seven weeks ago. So I believed in our U.S. agencies and I signed those "same" papers a second time and got them in real quick like they said to. We had figured that with the entire amount I borrowed, with the interested and fees, my balance at time of starting repayyment would be 23 grand. Well, payment book came and to my horror, my starting balance was not 23 grand, but rather 56 grand! I went ahead and started making payments, calling daily to get them to fix the mess. obviously the processed both sets of consolidation papers and thus, I was being billed twice what I should have been billed. I wrote, sent them their estimates of 23 grand but to no avail. No one I called would do anything what-so-ever except say, we have your signature on all these papers! I called them thieves and then things got even worse! I would make one to two payments and then find out the loan had been sold and was no longer being processed at that address. It would take me a month or two just to figure out who had my loans! Each time it was sold, they seemed to lose my payments as well. I sent in copies of my bank receipts proving they had taken payment but not accredited my account because they themselves could not keep up with who owned my loan and of course that's when I discovered that i had not dealt with the U.S. Department of Education. Calling the U.S.DOE or AES who was servincing my loan did no good. They could not figure it out either and they did not care that I had been scammed and they further did not care that the persons had used their letter heads and their name to sicker me into not only consolidating with them but to also scam me into signing the papers twice. I even proved to them that it was and still is totally impossible to take out double Perkins loans and Double Stafford subsidized loans simultaneously! By the time I got them to stop selling my loan and stop changing the address of the place I was suppose to pay, I was so far behind, confused, and disgusted, that I didn't know what to do! In addition, the second set I signed must not have been identical in wording as the first set because my interest rate was not what i had signed under the first set. I brought this up as proof. Their answer was, "Yes, You consolidated your loans two times not once!" I said please look at the date they were signed, Five weeks apart now does that make any sense to you?" I did not get any private loans because I knew what I would be able to afford and what I could not afford. Thus, I could not afford three times the payment I had planned on! So I was forced to go through this program to keep from having my loans go into default which also rendered my credit rating as garbage! When ever I had extra time from working full time and raising my children by myself, I tried to fix the problem of this scam. Tried to get them to investigate or at least see that there was this huge mistake and to find my missing payments. During this time I called them so many times that they got upset the minute they figured out who they got on the phone. I graduated in 1992. this same problem has never been resolved. Then on September 6 of 2002 things went from ridiculous to totally horrifying. I was seriously injured in a strong-armed robbery by an escaped convict who had just been released on bail after being caught! No kidding! I called the U.S. Department of Education. Told them I needed what-ever it was they give for someone who is not able to work due to severe injuries. They said sure, give me your address. AES called and I tol.d them the same thing. Now you have to understand. I suffered severe brain injury along with severe spinal injury. I was knocked unconscious and didn't even know until I read the police report. here I am trying to explain this stuff to these people and instead of helping me, they used it as an opportunity to further scam me! I kid you not! There are just topo many "mistakes" over the years to be simply errors or incompetence. It was obvious talking to me that I was half out of my mind. My children were still too young to understand or know how to deal with this stuff. My youngest was a sophomore in high school, one had just started college, the eldest lived 1200 miles away and is my special needs child, so he couldn't help. I thought I could still take care of things. But what I did not know was that in a matter of eight weeks, upon which I was waiting for them to send me those forms, they called me daily. They always identified themselves as being from the U.S. Department of Education, they always informed me that they qwere from the same place that called the "other day". Then I would tell them that I still have not received the needed forms and that I could not pay because I could not work, they said sweetly ok have a great day! They were very happy to help me. To make a long story short, when I said I could not pay, they immediately sent my file to collections with utter glee! Then immediately that collection agency called me, knowing full well what I would say and what they would do because it was recorded in the file and they all saw the opportunuty to bounce my file back and forth between the AES and the varies collection agencies that they contract with! Know what happens? Well, before they could even inform me that they had defaulted my loan because I said "I could not pay" nor that each time they bounced it they added 25% to the principal balance, I had received a notice of default for a grand total of well over 100 grand! No! I never got not one of those defferment or forbearence forms no not one. All I got after seven or eight weeks of asking for help was a bill for over a grand. By this time the seconday brain injury set in. That's where your brain swells, cutting off the oxygen to your brain, causing further brain damage. While they had a hey day racking up tens of thousands of dollars on my account, I was in the hospital fight5ing for my life and receiving very poor care because my insurance had run out. It would be almost 2 years before I had enough brain recovery to even know my own name. I was bedridden, in a wheelchair, could not bath myself, nor deal with anything for that period because I had no insurance, thus the only medical care I got was the constant hospitalization and the emergency room. When someone finally stepped in and helped my children get medicaid for me, I actually got a doctor. He told me later that he did not think I would make it. he thought they had gotten help for me too late. By this time, my speech was slurred and I was in lala land 90% of the time. people ask how I stood being 100% bedridden for almost three years. Easy, when you are in lala land, you have absolutely no concept of time! I had no idea it had been longer than several months. Well, the main problem with me was very surprising. The center that controls pain in your brain were severely damaged. Thus, my brain thinks my entire body in several injured. Thus it sends all the signals to treat it such. My body had swelled with 80 pounds of fluid, endorphines trying to control the pain sent me in lalal land, ect.. This was when i discovered that pain could truly kill you and it almost did. Back to the issue where The AES and USDOE did me even worse than you can imagine. Once I got proper medical treatment, On good days I am able to think properly, but not near as good as I use to, after all, I use to be a Lobbyist. among other exiting things. I have many health issues and I am still bedridden 50 to 70% of the time. Stress, the weather, and other things play a huge role in how sick I will be at any given time because areas of my brain centers are so damaged. Now the USDOE and AES are fully aware of this. I am only able to deal with these kinds of things on really good days. I am way to sick and weak on other days. This has been used against me. It took six years for my kids to finally get my Social Security Disability not because I wasn't qualified but because I lived in the wrong area where they deny everyone not on the short list so my son moved me to where my daughter was attending college and when they looked at my file, the local judge got angry with the systyem and I didn't have to do anything. Not only did they just offer to give it to me, but they offered me 18 months more in back pay than they ever offer anyone because basically, they could not believe I was denied. Now before this happened. I contacted the Ombudsman at the USDOE. They walked me through several months of HE-- ju8mping through the hoops to get my loan discharged under premanent disability. I tried to get them to just let me pay what I borrowed when I get my disability because i felt bad discharging money I had borrowed. But no way would I pay for the "double papers they tricked me. My disability payments wouldn't even cover the daily interest. Well, this is getting really long so the short version is this. Before I got my medicade and I almost died because I could pay for medicine or doctor's visit, My children realized that I had not filed taxes for several pervious years and that the IRS owed me almost 8 grand so they filed them for me so they could get me some proper medical care, fill the prescriptions from the emergency room so they could alvieate my suffering, which I remember all too well. They took ever cent of my taxes so my children filed for hardship. My only income was $107.00 a week in child support. My son and daughter was trying to work but someone had to stay and take care of me while the other worked and he only could find a waiter job which was less than 100 a week bring home. We barely paid the rent and utilities and sometimes not that. Well, they jerked us around on the hardship, losing every paper faxed in at l;east 10 times. Then finally denied hardship based on my son's ability to earn more tips if he wanted to! Well that was one version. When you call or ask, they give different answer everytime! If there ever was a hardship, it was us. I almost died from lack of being able to fill my meds because they refused to return the tax money. I had no income. Child support was for supporting the kids. I have not worked a day since I was injured in 2002. Then I went through the nightmare of the disability discharge. After having the ombudsmen walk with me through it, they too found that if they talked to tehm, they would throw it to another collection agency and raise the principal amount by 25%! Ombudsman only believed me after they did it and made them take the additional 25 grand they attached off, which is now back on. Bottom line is, they lied rep[eatedly stating they didn't rewceive paperwork, we proved that they did then they would tell another lie. I did finally receive the Temporary Disability Discharge according to USDOE records 09/19/2005! They were suppose to review my case again in three years by sending out a financial statement to see of you worked. I was told by the ombudsman agent and the USDOE that I had my 3 year temporary. However, instead of receiving the award letter, I received a notification of how much I owed, and when I called and said hey, I am on temporary discharge they said it didnot go through, was denied and that I had to start all over again. this was just 6 weeks after I just went through that nightmare! I went through that nightmare in 2005 and 2006. I lost my doctor over their harrassment of him. I almost died as a result and the pain and suffering is unbeleivable and was unbearable. I had a nervous breakdown and had to be hospitalized. I suffered significant deteriation of my eyesight and my health over losing my doctor and not getting proper treatment. They did this to me and my family. It was just the other day i learned how much they lied to me. I did have my temporary discharge! their lame ### excuse: "We have a right to review your disability during the 3 year temporary status!" Did they havbe the right to lie to me and tell me that I never received that status? Did they have the right to, make me repeatedly over and over and over fill out the same forms? Go through the stupid "I never recived it gamre they play?" It was a crime what they have done to my family and I! Their treatment of me is beyond criminal, it was inhumane! It almost killed me! It denied me and my family the right to survive, the right to pursue happiness and their lame ### excuse for their cruel and inhumane torture of me, the medical community, and my family is well what do you expect whewn you owe the government well over one hundred grand and then try to have it discvharge! All I can say is, "How many fricken t5imes do I have to say it! You have scammed me, I want an investigation into the actions all; the way back to the creeps who tricked me not once but twice into signing papers!" My legal, ethical, human rights have been oh so violated! This is what happened to the citizens of the US when the IRS gained the power to be above the law. It took years of screaming and thousands of innocent lives ruined before finally our congress took action and we got oversight with a stronger arm to standup to them. Now It is the student loan issue and trust me when I say, yes, we are being scammed! It is on purpose and this is what happens when you give anyone power to be above the law and no oversight that has a stronger arm. They have now garnished my disability. I was already receiving so little that I qualify for every single ounce of charity out there and now i will lose my home, die as a result because they have the power to cheat, lie3, scam, and no one has a stronger arm. There is no protecxtion from these crooks and every single one of them are interrelated and benefit financially freom screwwing us! I have a brain injury, I am too sick to correct so please forgive sloppy writting. I have to stop now!

Horrible Service
This company is horrible. I paid my student loans with ease for years! Then as soon as Uncle Sam got involved and decided the federal government could "help" me and handle the loans through a different provider the nightmare with this company began. First, it was general confusion. Now, paying from more than one machine is a hassle. All in all, it's an experience that used to be great with no stress that is just a massive aggravation. Aargh!

This company has the worst customer services. Almost stalker like. They call even when they do not receive payment within the next day after it is due. I tell them on the phone when I can afford to pay them (usually my next paycheck). And even with me notifying them on when I send the payment they call everyday, sometimes 2 or 3 times. I answer the next day they call and tell them what representative I talked to and when I will send the payment but they still keep calling. Day 3 past due I talk to them again telling them I have already spoken about the issue. They tell me that there is no way to stop them from calling everyday until they receive the payment. The representative tells me NOT TO ANSWER when they call and that they will keep calling everyday. And when i was unemployed forget about it I was going to turn off my phone lines. They do not even consider lowering my payment or here is a great idea why don't these companies spend their time and money trying to find people jobs. If they help find people jobs they would get their money a lot faster and easier. It does not make any sense.
This is the worst kind of customer service I have ever dealt with. My other student loan companies are NOWHERE near as bad. Sallie Mae is bad to an extent but they wont call until maybe 2 weeks past due and they actually listen to you when you tell them when the payment is coming.
So please do not ever take out private student loans because they will harass you and not let you get on your feet after college. All they want is your money. They rather have you homeless so they could get their money. They expect you to pay them before your pay your rent and utility bills. Ridiculous! I hope there is some way to pass legislation on the harassment these companies will do. I am not surprised they don't hire people to knock on doors to collect late payments. (Maybe because a lot of former college student cannot even afford their own apartment.
I hope people can read this and maybe we can start a petition.

Recently, while working with Sallie Mae to bring my defaulted loans current they sold the loan to AES behind my back. When I called in tears to AES the heartless, nasty rep gave me an earful of what I recently investigated and learned were lies! The collection reps work on a commission so beware of there threats. I was told they are adding 19% interest to my loan plus penalties etc. according to federal regulations they should not charge more than 18.5%. She also insisted that I HAVE TO pay the minimum (astronomically high) minimum amount due. Again, according to regulation, a rehabilitating loan (which this is..unless I pay $75k within 3 weeks) BOTH parties are supposed to settle on a fair and AFFORDABLE monthly payment!
MY ADVICE: Investigate your rights before signing any contracts with AES.

Oddly enough, “aes” stands for american “education” services, and so you would “think” that their employees would at least be “educated” but I cannot understand why this simple issue has been going on for 6 months and yet, they just cannot understand simple english?
This is a college loan.
I am still in school.
It is supposed to be deferred until I graduate.

Per aes’s own rules, on the back of their own documents, that they keep sending to me every other week, threatening me with collection, they state that the school must supply enrollment status and information, not the student.
This information has been supplied to them by my advisor.
I have told them this - and even supplied her name and my school info to them (Which they obviously already had!), 5 times via email, and 4 times via postal mail.
They have called my home and harassed me and my family 47 times, calling at all hours of the day and night.
I have put a “do not call” request in writing twice to them.
I have told them not to call verbally.
I have even written to them, explained all of this clearly, and even included text boxes for them to put simple answers for any questions that they might have as to why on earth they might still find the need to call me - instead of calling my school/advisor to verify my information!
But, today, despite all of this, I received another threatening letter and a new bill!
There is something very wrong with these people. They do not understand english. Oh, wait, that is them on the phone again…. Make that 48 times!

There is 1246.45 dollars that has vanished in cyber space or has been embezzled from a refund transaction from my student loan company (American Education Services). I accidentally made an over payment on my student loan account in February through my TD Bank bill pay service. I made an error by paying my mortgage payment (Arora Loan Services) in the amount of 1434.00 and some change to my student loan (American Education Services) - as you can see they both star with "A" and are right next to each other in the Bill pay service. I discovered the error a week after I had made it and contacted my bank (TD Bank) to see how I could get it fixed. My bank told me that I would have to get a refund issued from American Education Services (AES). So I called AES to request a refund. After getting the ring around and speaking to several reps - they finally told me I would have to request a letter from TD Bank stating an error was made and that a refund needed to be issued. I went back to the Bank and got the letter and faxed it over to AES. AES told me that it would take 5-7 business days to receive the refund. A week went bye and no refund was issued. I then called my bank to track the refund. The bank had no record of such refund. I called AES back and they state that the refund was issued electronically to "Citi Bank Home Access" where the original overpayment came from. AES states that Citi Bank Home Access is TD Banks 3rd party bill pay service. I went into the TD Bank branch to speak to a representative. The rep at TD Bank made several phone calls to try and track this refund in the amount of 1246.45 (which AES states they refunded to me back on 3/8/12). The rep was not getting any answers and was being told by TD Bank corporate office that they have no affiliation with Citi Bank Home Access and that is definately not their 3rd party bill pay company. The rep even got on the phone with the Manager (Keith) at AES and he kept telling my bank Rep that the refund was issued on 3/8/12 to Citi Bank Home Access and that we needed to contact them to find out where the payment is at. The rep from my bank told him several times that there was an error and that the refund was not issued to my account. If it was done electronically it would have hit my account instantly. The AES Manager then claims that it would take 3-7 weeks... WHAT? The bank rep got very suspicious and started asking for phone numbers and mailing addresses to where the refund was issued and the AES Manager could not give him that info. AES refused to trace the transaction. TD Bank has put in a claim (#93317) to try and investigate it. I have since then filed a claim with the BBB on AES. I have also went online to find that I am not the only one having fraud issues with American Education Services. There are several recent stories online with a similar twist of money missing.. or not being applied to the persons account. There is some type of fraud going on here.. and to date my refund of $1246.45 is no where to be found.
