Charity Mail
I have always received way too much mail asking for charitable donations. I get stalked in my inbox, cell phone, mail box and in person. Yes, I have volunteered for my local Red Cross, I have put time in at our Paws Humane Society but have never consented or signed up for the mound of mail begging for any money I do have. I am sometimes free, that was in education or part time employment because I had kids.
I am mostly a homemaker and I am thankful for what all you do but the mail is too much.
I follow some things on social media and I
share sometimes. I prefer helping in person
and just ask for the mail to stop. Thanks.
Desired outcome: No mail , no calls , no email
I love my pets , my recommendation is to adopt a pet . Share homeless pets on your social media for support. If you don't love pets , pray shelters stop killing them and end puppy mills .
See my fur babies ...
The mounds of mail are slowing down finally .
I cannot easily resolve anything here .
The weekly mail and holiday mail mound have stopped . So many things can be learned from Charity Watch and other wise giving alliances.
Pet Claim
In November of last year we decided to get pet insurance for our dog. Soon after, she was playing in the snow and tore her ACL which was listed as covered under her policy. We took her to the vet and they recommended surgery but we decided to hold off and hoped it would heal on its own. Unfortunately, it didn't and five months later she had surgery. All of her claims were denied due to her ACL tear being labeled as an "illness". The vet wrote a letter confirming the date of injury, type of injury and clarifying that it couldn't be an illness as it was related to an injury. I have called countless times, written countless emails, and now am consulting with an attorney. If the policy specifically claims ACL injuries are covered, they should be covered. She had absolutely zero prior issues with her ACL, never limped or showed any signs of problems prior.
Desired outcome: Her claims should be processed correctly and we should receive reimbursement for the thousands we spent on something
Fraud
I had my four dogs insured with ASPCA Pet Insurance for four years. In the four years I had two claims one for $450. 00 and one for $570.00. Both claims were denied based on a vague clause citing a unusual definition of a pre existing condition. The policies were issued four years ago. They were paid each year in advance for the year. I wasted my money. I have since stopped payment on all credit card charges to this company and filed a complaint with the Department of Insurance in California.

Unfair coverage, nothing to do with ASPCA org
After research on pet insurance and conversation with ASPCA Pet Insurance representative, we enrolled our then puppy to be covered. Only after a couple months, with both regular anticipated vaccination shots and unexpected injury and surgery, we learned in a hard way that the insurance does not cover the contracted 80% or even near it. They had " explanations" that they need to determine if the charges were under the geographically acceptable range. I have discussed over the phone and sent supporting documents by mail that any vet in my living area would have charged similarly if not more. They still denied the contracted 80%, on average I received about 50% of coverage. I have argued that it is not stated or footnoted anywhere on their promotional materials, website, or consultation on the customer service line, not even on the confirmation materials after I enrolled. If I knew of course I would have chosen another company.
The frustrating thing is that after the correspondences leading to no reasonable place with ASPCA ( don't be fooled by the name, it has nothing to do with the organization that helps pets) Pet Insurance, I decided to report to business agencies, only to find out that insurance sector has governance by the state... I signed up in New York, the listed company ASPCA Pet Insurance is under Ohio, but the parent company United States Fire Insurance Company is in New Jersey... So when I called NY they told me to call OH, OH asked me to call NJ, NJ said that I need to call NY... What type of crap
Not to say the thousands that we could have saved if we went with a legitimate insurance, the time spent on the claim reports, phone calls and letters, the confusion frustration and injustice...
FRAUD -
I had no idea that after browsing the ASPCA website that they were billing me about $40.00 a month since March 2012 after i was curious about pet insurance.
There was no payment 'confirmation', no policy, no insurance card, no nothing -
August 2012 was the first I saw it on my statement(but deducted from my account) and found out how long it was being billed- which i asked for a FULL REFUND/cancel.
I didn't receive a refund and no cancel (twice) I received another bill for Sept 15 (on Sept 24) and decided to pay the premium since they already have $236.10 for basically NOTHING and that I was taking my dog to the vet and sending them the bill after I pay this new premium...since I obviously forced into this policy ! The same day I called to pay the (new)premium (Sept 25) is the same day "Lisa" from [protected] would now 'cancel" my policy and emailed me "sorry for the misunderstanding" intending to keep my $236.10 rendering me NOTHING for that policy
I stated didn't authorize the policy be CANCELED Sept 25th and called TWICE to make the premium payment. Scottland advised me it was canceled the same day (sept 25). Scotland also ignored my questions regarding what the policy covered (along with the email request- also ignored) - and told me someone would contact me that day (Sept 25 ) No response was received on Sept 25 to 'reinstate' my policy until I read the email Sept 26- promising to 'reinstate' my policy ...with a phone call to the office.
Sept 26- I called the email phone number to 'reinstate" and LISA told me she'd have to start a entirely "New" application - forfeiting my paid policy, not giving any credit for the 6 months of payment and doing this after I already told them I was using my policy I paid for to go to the vet.
This company is pure scam and I don't believe they would ever pay for a claim - and they certainly haven't honor their word and stole my money- which I received no benefit for.

High Premiums NO Paid Claims
When we adopted our 5-year-old dog we decided to purchase pet health insurance in case she needed emergency care. After speaking with a company representative we opted for the Category 4 level which is $78 a month (an exorbitant amount for a small dog!) Still, we were assured this premiere plan would be best for an adopted animal because it covered things most plans did not - including injuries to the CCL.
Several months later our dog was playing at the park and injured her leg severely. We rushed her to an emergency clinic and they did X-rays, blood tests, and sent her home with medication. Their initial finding was that she had ruptured her CCL. I was relieved because I'd opted for the "Premiere" plan with ASPCA which covered that. We found that she would need a surgery. Initial estimates were around $3000. Our regular vet said they could do the repair for half that. I submitted our first claim to ASPCA for the emergency clinic visit.
After two weeks of "processing" our claim they denied it. Their reason was that while they covered CCL injuries they didn't cover them until after 12 months (something the rep forgot to mention) and they didn't cover them at all if they were "congenital" and it was possible this was "congenital."
So, for months I'd been paying this huge premium for just such an emergency and come to find out the coverage was worthless. They even denied things done not directly related to the injury on these same flimsy excuses. So, they have collected hundreds in premiums and have no intention, it seems, of ever paying a single claim because now everything is "related to a CCL injury in the first 12 months of coverage."
This "insurance" is a scam. I only wish I'd taken the advice of friends who warned me against them and simply taken their huge premium and put it in a savings account specifically to pay for vet bills! At least I'd have some money for this huge expense! As it is, ASPCA has my money and I have the bills!
Incidentally, when I complained I got a very condescending phone call from a representative who wanted to "explain" how I "misunderstood" their rep who sold me this worthless insurance. Long story short, I'm cancelling this if I can, as it looks like a process because they seem trained to hold customers as long as possible so they can squeeze out more premiums. I'll be putting that insurance premium in a savings account for future expenses while I try to rebuild my own savings account thanks to ASPCA.

Bad service
ASPCA Pet Insurance is a Fraud! Shelby, our third yellow lab, was 2 months old when we decided to get pet insurance, thinking that this would be beneficial. She had a clear bill of health from both her breeder's vet and ours when she arrived. She came with papers from AKC. After 9 months she started limping. Tests showed bilateral elbow displasia. She underwent surgery ($10, 000 including MRI and follow up care) at 13 months. Submitted claim to ASPCA and they denied (after 2 months delay) due to "Pre-existing" condition...Then they told us that "Labs are genetically prone to joint displasia". I asked how we would have known about this when applying for their insurance, they didn't have a good answer. All breeds are prone to varying disorders and I suppose that they would deny all claims based on this as well. Save your money on premiums and use it when your animals need vet care.
After two years of rising premiums for the same plan, we have had multiple denied claims that are covered by our plan benefits. This type of fraudulent behavior is unacceptable. After two months into our current annual plan, we have canceled our pet insurance and will communicate their behavior widely.
They guaranteed that my rates would Never go up - this happened twice - now a third time and they said it was a "Federally Approved" increase, just like last time. Such Bull, just keeps going up! They make promises they cannot keep. - scammers and Liars !
My advice is find a good vet with reasonable prices, and set up a savings account for the pet. There are many complaints about pet insurance and vets over charging or not covering needed vet care. Also, maintenance care is important, make sure you keep up with their shots, pet proof your house.. IE- Make an area for them free of foods that can be harmful, baby locks on cabinets that contain cleaning supplies. Good luck to you, and sorry you had to deal with such an unethical company.
They're a fraud. They'll tell you one thing to sell you the insurance and as soon as you file a claim they'll find some loophole in the fine print to deny not only that claim but any others they can for the future! We're going through the same thing with them and having to wipe out our savings account to pay for a surgery we were assured was covered when we signed up!
My advice, stay away from pet health insurance. It appears that the worst scam human health insurance is 1000 times better than the best "premiere" pet health insurance! It all seems to be a scam to bilk people out of money.
