Newspaper service and content
Having taken the paper for 40+ years, it has been getting thinner and thinner.
Less content and news. Now they have removed the only resemblance of the
stock market section that was only a half page at the most.
They have lost me.
Do not try to call and voice your opinion on anything because the phone tree
menu won't permit it.
For a city this size, Arizona deserves better than a third class paper like the
AZ Republic.
Desired outcome: Add back the stock market section.

Content of paper
I have been a subscriber all my life... as child my folks got the paper every morning. I carried on the tradition, but so many negative changes are getting me close to canceling... It started with having no delivery in the area I live. ok I went digital. Than the buy out by Gannet the paper went ultra liberal. Then the cancelation of daily editorial pages. Then dropping political cartoons, Then getting rid of daily customer opinions section Then dropping the dunsbury cartoon (a small thing but something I enjoyed). Now I cannot log on for what ever reason and when I ask to change password you say you will send me a link and YOU DON'T... I tried to call... NOPE... that didn't work either.
Let me just ask you this... WHAT THE HELL?
Desired outcome: a response PLEASE....
Unable to speak to a local AZ Republic customer service rep. Reps are in the Phillipines
For the last several weeks I have been trying to speak to someone at the AZ
Republic office regarding a bill I received which has generated some concerns
and questions. The only phone number I have been able to reach an actual
person connects me with a representative in the Philippines. I've asked to speak to a local, U.S.A. rep in AZ and am told I was not able to be connected to one.
While these representatives have been trying to assist, they have no authority
nor training to resolve my issues. It has been a frustrating experience.
It is no wonder that newspapers in the U.S.A are quickly becoming
dinosaurs.
Should I decide to renew my newspaper subscription, I would appreciate a
telephone number to speak with a person of authority and knowledge that is
located in AZ.
Desired outcome: I would appreciate a response from a customer service representative in AZand a direct telephone number to speak to this representative regarding my billing concerns. The AZ Republic billing # is AZ3320885.Thank you.

subscription charges
on 6/8/2022 we finally cancelled az republic due to their billing issues due to their premium addition crap they force on subscribers , mind you we have been with them for 10 years ! we started getting them in 2012 & it has been ok , but now it seems they have new mgmt that refuse to budge for their customers , we have pleaded with them to NOT send us that premium issue crap that is only 6-10 pages of reports we do not care of , then to add injury to insult, they force us to pay an additional $7 for it ! so we started in 2012 paying $12 for the wedns & sun issues , which is 8 papers per month, now today we called them to ask why we didn't get our delivery & told us we were suspended due to a billing issue with the bank , they now wanted $26.15 for 8 papers a month , that is including the premium crap , so we tried to fix the issue to no avail as we asked for a supervisor who told us " people like the premium issue as it is informative & they have no problems with it " then i go to this site & see so many complaints of that very issue , seems AZ Republic would rather lose subscribers to force them to resubscribe !
Desired outcome: would like a refund for their billing errors of charging us $64 one time minus the $21.77 refund via check for the amount of $42.23 due to their billing errors they have done for this year
Subscription bait and switch
I obtained a new subscription from the Republic a month ago for around $11 per month. However, to my surprise, my bill was $18 already charged to me.
That is odd, I was promised $11 and in one month it was raised $7? Why is that? Oh, there are "Premium" additions that are extra. Hold up. When I got the subscription, I asked if there were any extra charges for "Premium" additions and was told "No. Your monthly bill will be $11". And I tried to confirm and asked again, "Are you sure ONLY $11 per month will be taken out? Not a penny more? "
"Yes Ma'am". I was told. If that is the case let's do the subscription.
WHAT A LIE! I was baited and switched. The subscription SHOULD have been promoted as $18/mo. NOT $11/mo. How convenient that they have "Premium" additions monthly to add more money. And you do this with a card on file. The subscriber has no power to stop you pulling extra money that they steal.
Luckily, I called and escalated, and your very nice service people took care of everything until December. Unless that was all a lie as well. But we will see.
I can't believe you have resorted to such a low down and thieving scheme for getting people to sign up for your paper. If you need to price subscriptions at $18 then do it. Don't totally lie to people and steal more money later. How low can you get? What a horrible practice.
Desired outcome: They stop saying the subscription is one price then raise it monthly.
I want to complain to The Az. Rep. that I did not receive a paper this past Sunday. Its not the 1st time I have not received a paper.
Anyway I wrote out my situation. Now to receive a comment from a Az Rep Person I have to pay $1.00 now. Then you register/join this "club" for $55.00 - Oh! you can drop out at any time. Now why do I have to pay for me complaining that I did not get a Sunday paper and want to be comped?
Thank you
Carl

Their article has a biased misleading statement that should be corrected. Anyone who has ever come across Phranq Tamburri knows immediately that he is and has always been a Libertarian. He has a radio show about it! He has been in politics for many years as a Libertarian. AZ Republic trying to infer that he is being dishonest misrepresenting his interests is awful.
I have known Phranq since around 2007. Day one meeting him socially, he was passionately talking about Prostate Second Opinions, helping men all over the world, talking politics with everyone, because he is a Patriot Libertarian, devoted to America, citizen rights, and repairing the economy in how our money value is established, all of which he is incredibly knowledgeable!
Phranq is a reputable man of high character who is extremely intelligent and well-educated on these topics. He is also an amazingly nice human being. He is one of the best people I have ever known, and I am not an easy person to impress!
I have worked with Phranq on his business marketing, and he even helped me move once! I have never seen Phranq be rude or mean to anyone. I have always seen him smile and talk openly and friendly with everyone. He has a huge circle of friends from all political and financial circles. He is very responsible and truly one of the good eggs. Even in a disagreement, he is respectful and kind, while bringing so much knowledge to the conversation that everyone is impressed by him.
I haven't lived in AZ for years, but Arizona has made a huge mistake by derailing Phranq Tamburri from the U.S. Senate ballot.
Of everyone I have ever spoken to about politics, Phranq is the person whom I respect the most on topics of politics - even though I don't agree with everything he says, I KNOW he has the best intentions and a solid baseline of values and knowledge that he chooses to live his life by.
I stand up for Patriotism and that is why I would always stand next to Phranq Tamburri.
Billing fraud
Every month there is "balance forward" item and additional charge on my monthly bill. I have called several time and last month I was told this charge was an "error" and it was removed. This month, the charge appeared again and after a long wait I spoke with a supervisor. the explanation is that they use a 28 day billing cycle. The extra charge was for deliveries for the extra days. However, my bill clearly states that the charge is for "full access with Mon--Sun from 11/04/2016-12/03/2016" for example. That is for a full month--not 28 days. That means the stated monthly charge is increased every month and is not the real charge. The supervisor kept restating they use a 28 day cycle and that the period on the bill is not relevant. I complained that the the paper bill I received does not reflect how they are actually charging, that it was not honest or transparent--to no effect at all. The fact that they reversed the charge so easily last month, and have done so for others cited in other reviews on this website, indicate they know they have a problem and are trying to keep customers happy.
Their billing practice is opaque, hidden, dishonest, and a scam.
Subscription renewal ripoff
Well, they really did it this time with their so called new model. Everyone read this in Sunday August 12th edition. This is a scam they created to cheat everyone who subscribes to the daily delivery out of an incredible amount of money. They perpetuate this under the guise that we all use their online service and we should pay for it. Since they know most people wont and will not renew, they decided to charge everyone of their loyal subscription base for this rediculous cost. This especially screws those of us on fixed income like myself a retired person. They don't even realize that the majority of their subscribers are elderly and couldn't give a Rats ### about the digital online crap. But now if we want to continue getting our daily paper we must all pay apx $25 more for what was our 3 month billing cycle. We used to pay $61.40 per 3 month cycle. That now increases to apx $86.65 billed out in monthy charges.Thats unfair and since they are a monoply in this town with no other newspapers available to us, should also be illegal. That amounts to a increase of 29% and for what. So they can keep stuffing their pockets, that's what. I hope anyone reading this will rise up and tell them how you feel. You can contact them at www.azcentral.com

Subscription offer
On 10/26/10, a salesman outside Safeway Market on Bell Road in Sun City offered a trial offer for the Arizona Republic paper for weekends at $11.92 for 3 months, receiving a $10.00 Safeway giftcard. He presented this offer as a ONE-TIME charge, not as a monthly charge that couldn't be cancelled upon request. I said I wasn't able to read the small print on the receipt that I was asked to fill in address and initial. I was surprised to find another debit from my checking account for $13.42 on 11/22/10, calling the paper to ask why, finding I'd be charged monthly, unable to cancel until January 26, 2011. This was not as presented by their sales representative, taking advantage of senior citizens entering the grocery store. Maybe I should have been suspicious when the offer seemed so good, but expected honesty on the part of a newspaper.
Same thing happened to me, signing up for only 29 weeks and prepaying the fee, to a salesman inside the Safeway in Prescott Valley. I did NOT renew nor continue The Republic subscription after 29 weeks(the time period the salesman told me that I'd receive the Sunday paper for).
They use their own collections process, thinking they will obtain a subscription from me by extortion having their collector calling me very often every day. I just ignore that number: [protected](United Collection Agency) and have it bad ring-tone assigned. Extortion and fraud don't work with me, never have.
I don't receive that newspaper and will never sign up for any 'supermarket' subscriptions, again. If I want to read the Sunday paper, I can pick it up a quarter mile from where I live.
Scam and cheating
I give up, these people are impossible ! After weeks of back and forth, placed on eternal hold, voice messages not returned and just plain rudeness, I have decided it's just not worth it. The Arizona Republic stopped delivering my paper due to what it claims was nonpayment of our invoice. We paid the invoice online 7-19-08 and it showed as deducted on our bank statement 7-23-08. They keep claiming they didn't get it.
I tried repeatedly to give them the reference number but they refuse to research their error. With all the arrogance and condescension they could muster they insist that I have to fax my bank statement to them. I asked them if they were kidding with this?! My bank has strongly suggested that I should not do that. That is private information and is no business of theirs.
We spoke with any number of nitwits on the phone, including supervisors and managers, all to no avail, and they will not bend. Needless to say, in their ineptitude and disorganization they still point the finger at me and tell me it's my problem to prove myself innocent. So, they have my money, and I have no paper.
Oddly enough, they seem to have no problem canceling my subscription at my request, and can do THAT right away...
I have been anatomically specific on what they can do with their paper. No thanks, and never again. These people are complete ###s...

Again,we have not received our paper. It has been several times lately.

Why is the inclusion of advertising supplements and the tv guide so erratic in Prescott. Again today there was no advertising supplement or tv guide at Fry’s or CVS. Happens regularly! What a pain!
I went to cancel my online subscription on Nov.14, 2022. I was told I would not get a refund since my subscription runs til June 2023. I do not think this is right or fair. I am paying for something I do not use.
Several days this week, we received our newspaper minus the Living Section, crossword puzzles, etc. Today, it was missing those parts, as well as the weekly grocery ads.
This happened on Saturday, Aug. 25, as well as today, Aug. 29, 2018.
I would like for this to stop, as well as a credit for those particular days.
I just learned from a representative with the AZ Republic that I am now being billed for more than just the newspaper I have received for the past 14 years. Apparently, as the readership of the paper has declined over the years, the powers that be decided to add their publication online. This is a fine service if that is how you like to read your news. However, for those of us who do not enjoy getting our information from a computer, we continue to subscribe for home delivery. Despite my plea to NOT to participate online, I was told it didn't matter what I want. The AZ Republic will continue to charge me as if I used that service even if I no longer had a computer! There is no way to separate the charges so if I continue to subscribe for home delivery, I will be billed for online access. This breaks down to $3.99 per week for the hard copy and $1.05 per week for online access, a total of about $300 (including tax) per year. I realize the Republic has seen a decline in their bottom line over the years and they need to come up with some creative ways to increase their income. I do not believe it should be at the expense of their loyal newspaper readers. I would suggest they split their fees into 2 possibilities, one for newspaper delivery and the other for online access. I don't know what went into their decision to charge their current readership for computer access to the news but as a retiree I resent the additional burden and know that it is only a matter of time before I join the ranks of those to turn on my TV to become informed.
Arizona Republic Totally deceitful subscriptions.Giving them my credit card number cost me months of automatic bill charges. If is not true that you can cancel anytime. When you sign with your card, you sign for a contract that is minimum 3 to 6 months at no promotional price. Be aware..never give your credit card number to Arizona republic newspaper. There are many complains in the web of their awful customer service department that never listen to the customers.
I've just talked with one of their Customer Service Reps and confirm that they don't have any inclination to listen to the customer's story or admit that their position might be wrong. In my case I was billed for continuing to receive the paper (which I had never requested a continuation in the 1st place), after I twice notified them that I wanted my service cancelled. The rep just said she couldn't do anything about their extra billing. So I now know that Arizona Republic is one of those slimy businesses that it's best to avoid in the first place.
