Cataract surgery
I had cataract surgery on my right eye and had complications following surgery. I experienced a black curtain every-time the light conditions changed,, Dr. David Mcgarey performed the surgery and stated it will eventually go away on its own, it didn’t. I took a chance and needed to have the cataract removed from my right eye the following year. I made the mistake of allowing Dr. Mcgarey to perform the surgery, now I see a dirty piece of s cellophane crossing my vision where I cannot see out of my eye. I followed up with the VA only to find out the lense has a dirty wrinkle in it so now I have to have surgery to try to correct it! Dr. Mcgarey is a nice guy but stay clear if you want to be able to see correctly in your future! Terrible , to say the least!
Desired outcome: To be able to see correctly.
Left eye cateratic surgery
Had cataract surgery on my left eye 7/26/23 and after three weeks with 3 different eye drops, my vision is worse than before and the prescription eyeglasses that I'm using are horrible. The Dr gave no real explanation as to why it happened. I felt that after the procedure, and I came too from the light anesthesia they had you under I was rushed out of there and perhaps they forgot to put in an eye drop that keeps it from swelling up; of course, they never would admit it if that's what happened. I missed work for 3 weeks of work instead of maybe two days. Now I'm checking with my insurance to see if I can have my eye checked out by another doctor and definitely not getting the right done to my left eye is resolved. Was very disappointed in their service.
Desired outcome: They need to get some customer service training and stop and realize what an important organ they are dealing with a person's vision for life.
cataract surgery
I had cataract surgery in Sept 2022...Vision did not return to normal...double vision and impaired distance...unable to drive. Saw Dr Bringhurst, who ordered yag in march. Vision still poor and I was told by Rabinowitz to make follow-up and he would take care of me...still no rx for glasses... Had to cancel that appt to put my dog down/emergency... so, reschedule gave me back to bringhurst...ok, showed up for appt and they said oh, meant to call you to say bringhurst is ill... they rescheduled me with different doc, and different location...Could not reach them by phone ...onlone kept saying to "call"...We drove in and scheduled in person. My appt with rabinowitz scheduled for tomorrow, Friday. Kathy called and cancelled my appt...tried to reschedule with an unknown doc. I HAVE NOT HAD MY FOLLOW-UP...MY SURGERIES ARE NOT FINISHED, I DO NOT HAVE MY VISION BACK...I HAVE NO RX FOR VISION CORRECTION...THIS HAS BEEN A NIGHTMARE...I HAVE BEEN A PATIENT OF RABINOWITZ FOR OVER 20 YEARS...
Desired outcome: appt to solve my vision so I can continue what life I have left!
Optical department
On 9/2/22 I received a new eye glass prescription. I used this optical department, waited 5 days and my glasses arrived. They were completely wrong. I took them back the next day. They said I needed another exam, which I did the following Friday.9/16/22. (Which they are not trying to charge me for.) After that they said my left eye had changed some, very doubtful in 2 weeks. Got a new script. The OD said to go back to the original mfg. of lenses, which I did, took 3 weeks. Again the glasses were completely wrong, couldnt see anything close up, supposed to be progressive, and I found the reading lense about 1/8" at the bottom of the lenses.
I took them back again, early October, said I wanted my money back. They don't do that, custom, etc. The head optician called me and said they would work with me, etc, I said I had zero trust they could ever fix it, filed a complaint with my credit card company and got my money back. So after that, I left for a 2 week trip to bury my sister. I am willing to give them one more try and if they get it right I will buy the glasses. BTW, took the script to Alvernon Optical and got correct glasses in 5 days. Marian J. Robinson
Desired outcome: IF they can get me a correct set of lenses, I will pay for them, willing to give you one more chance. Called and left a message at the optical on Oracle, no reply.
Eye Surgery
WARNING!
I’m sharing my story so you, unlike me, can be an INFORMED consumer if you chose to do business with Barnet-Dulaney-Perkins / American Vision Partners / Southwest Eye Center (they are all the same company). This is a completely factual story and you are welcome to contact me for more details: DR. CARLOS DIAZ, DUE TO INADEQUATE SAFETY PROCEEDURES AT BARNET-DULANEY-PERKINS / AMERICAN VISION PARTNERS/ SOUTHWEST EYE CENTER AND PERHAPS HIS OWN NEGLIGNCE, IMPLANTED THE INCORRECT LENSES IN MY EYES. Although both Dr. Diaz and Barnet-Dulaney-Perkins / American Vision Partners / or Southwest Eye Center have admitted the error, they have done very little in to resolve the issue in a meaningful way. Their attitude seems to be: YEAH, WE MADE A COMPLETELY NEGLIGENT ERROR, IT WAS TOTALLY OUR FAULT, SO WHAT?
Here are the details: During consultation for cataract surgery - and after the hard sell from their surgical consultant (salesperson) - I was persuaded to pay over $5,000 extra for advanced lenses and a "superior” procedure that that I was promised would provide the very best vision correction possible. WHEN THE SURGERY WAS PERFORMED, THEY IMPLANTED THE WRONG LENSES! Both Dr. Diaz and an outside consultant agree that it would be very risky to redo the surgery. Now I’m stuck for my entire lifetime with the consequences of their error. Although his is incredibly distressing, THERE IS MORE: I HAVE OBTAINED EVIDENCE THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO OTHER PATIENTS BEFORE ME ANY YET, PROCEEDURES TO PREVENT FUTURE OCCURANCES WERE NEVER PUT INTO PLACE! Unbelievable, but 100% true. I have been assured procedures have NOW (under threat of a lawsuit) been corrected, I’m still stuck with the results of their repeated earlier negligence.
Barnet-Dulaney-Perkins / American Vision Partners / or Southwest Eye Center treat their patients like a moneymaking commodity; this place is a factory. Do what is right for you, but since my disastrous experience, I have found that there are many SUPERIOUR OPTIONS FOR THE SAME PRICE. FULL DISCLOSURE: A lawsuit is being prepared, since some companies just WON’T do the right thing on their own. I will publicly share all documents I receive as part of discovery (where legal to do so) on a public website along with those folks that wished to contact me directly.
Getting a paper prescription for glasses
I had a cataract removed in November with follow-up in December. I didn't ask for the prescription at the time but called a week later and asked for one to be sent to me. They said they would send it via email. It didn't come. They called me on 12/28/21 but I was not available. They said they would call back. They didn't so I stopped at the office on 12/29/21 and asked for a copy of the prescription. I was told it cost me $52 and some centers. Really! I already paid for the surgery. I would have thought I already paid for the prescription. The young man said it wasn't covered by Medicare. So what. I already paid for it when I had my surgery. I left and did NOT pay $52. This really sucks.
Desired outcome: Give me a copy of my eye glass prescription at NO ADDITION COST to me!
Services
I had been to my local BDP eye center 3 times and have never been forced to wear a mask. I had a follow up today to check the contacts that i had recieved a week before. When i got there today this office tried to force me to wear a mask and when i told them no and then proceeded to tell them that i had not had to wear one in the past, they told me that i would have to leave there office and could not be seen if i didnt put a mask on. I would like to get a refund of ALL my fees related to the contacts purchased, now that they are not gonna finish getting me the correct lenses that i need and i am now being forced to find another optometrist and start the whole process over. Please get back with me as soon as possible, THANKS
They work fewer days.
I have no problem with the office staff. They all are professional and nice. The problem I have is they are closed so many days. We are a small town, Blythe CA, and they are the only eye service in town. We have no other option! So what do we due if we need to get our glasses fixed? This week they are closed Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday for...

Perkins Barnet Dulaney Eye Company said I had cataracts in both eyes and needed eye surgery. I filled three prescriptions for eye drops, etc. and in the end I did not have cataracts. We had a disagreement and they seemed fishy to me so I had an eye exam elsewhere and guess what - I do NOT have cataracts. This business is scamming old people left and right.
So folks let's get the word out about this place. the one I went to was in Mesa, but I imagine they all pull this type of thing. Can you believe it?
