illegitimate escrow increases
Each year, Compass BBVA sends me a letter claiming I have inadequate insurance for my condo. And each year I send them proof of insurance from my HOA. Until last week, I had managed to escape any further trouble. But this year, Compass said I had an escrow adjust of $90 more per month. The reason cited was insurance. But my HOA pays for my insurance through my substantial quarterly dues. I'm working on trying to get this taken care of, again. How can this be anything but fraud?
atm steals credit cards
I inserted my ATM card into a Bancomer ATM in a mall. The machine immediately restarted, a Windows startup screen came on and a slow boot process began, ending approximately 10 minutes later. The machine then gave an error, saying the card had been seized. Not only did the Bancomer machine malfunction, it would not give back my card.
There was no staff available to assist except a security guard who gave me the Bancomer toll-free number. We were in a rented taxi who had allowed us to use the bank machine so we did not have time to wait and call. I subsequently called my bank, Citibank, and spent a significant amount of time as well as long distance charges to report the card as lost. The whole ordeal, including the loss of my ATM card for the duration of my travel, was an unacceptable hassle. This situation is unacceptable and can lead to a potentially dangerous condition of being stranded without cash while traveling.
Why are Bancomer's machines programmed to seize the customer's card if a Bancomer-related malfunction occurs?
bbva compass refi
refi with bbva compass has been a nightmare. has been 2-1/2 months, charged double the fees quoted by the loan officer, wanted more info, more info, more info. we jumped through all their hoops, finally closed on the refi march 15, still have received no disbursements, making one of our payoffs past due. as of this morning, their no-customer service said they have no record of a loan to us, but that a supervisor wouldcall back in 10 minutes. that was 2 hours ago. they tried to charge us a $250 fee because the rate lock had expired even though they drug the whole thing out. then told us there would be a $20 fee to deposit our cash-out to our bank account. stay away from this bank. i don't know what to do or where to turn. would give anything to get out of this loan, but they will not let us. anyone have any ideas?
nsf
I have been a compass bank customer for 3 years on my personal account and 1 year on business account. On Thursday 12/29/2011 I had a balance of -120.83 in my pending transactions. I called on 12/30/11 and I was told that if my transactions were on my pending transactions I had 24 hours to deposit. I got my direct deposit of 827.42 on 12/30/11 that covered what was pending on my account. I went to the branch in the morning of 12/30/11 and was told my balance was positive. I made a withdrawal of 260.00 at a non bank atm. then I made a 460.00 withdrawal and used my atm to make a transaction of 2.17 and another of 6.00. I left a balance of 14.00 in my account. On 12/31/11 I checked my info online and it was -215.46. I went the bank to speak to dispute the nsf. I was told it will be referred to my branch where I opened my account. I speak with my banker on 01/03/2012 and she will not help me. I just checked my account and another 4 nsf posted after I have not used my card since friday morning and its even deactivated. I have a total of 10 nsf of 38.00 each. I called customer care and the bank with Maribel and Esthela and am not able to resolve anything. everyone blames each other. This nsf are invalid and outrageaous and the bank refuses to help the customers. I do not deserve this treatement after being their customer for so long.
I have direct deposit. When my funds go into the bank they withhold my funds for two days and run all my debits through and then run my deposit and direct deposits through. I have two accounts with this bank. I can transfer funds direct from one accout to the other and they still withhold my funds. On transfers the money is put immediately into my account but they turn around and take it back out. This causes my transactions to go into overdraft. I got a nsf charge through the mail and showing that I had 600 dollars in my account and bounced a 5 transaction. I have recently changed banks to were all the credits go through first then the debits go through. Compass bank runs all the debits through and then the credits so they can try and get nsf charges at 38 dollars a transaction. Friday I spoke with a banker on the phone and they even lied to me over the phone after I make an 800 dollar deposit. I don't recomend this bank to no one. I have had a lot of friends and family tell me how sorry this bank does business with there customers so they can make money off of them.
I looked at my account yesterday, I had enough money in my account, I subtracted my pending transactions and everything looked great, so I went to get gas for my car, when I got to work I checked my account again and again everything looked great. (I work for a bank one of the big ones) the next day I checked my account and there was 2 NSF fees on 2 transactions one for $2.00, one for $66.72, now remind you I work for a bank, I was a little upset because my deposit went in that same day, have you noticed that they put you in the hole before they take any money out? Well they do, they charged me $38.00 for the $2.00 that of which could of been taken out of the amount with out any recall, then the other for $66.72 so here I look at my bill they took out the overdraft b-4 the transactions, well to make things worse they charged me $38.00NSF for my deposit and another $38.00 for my $11.00 purchase. Now I am pissed I cant even make my house payment without going into OD, I was mad my poor wife took the blunt of it, she was crying, Now I called 1-800-compass I talked to customer service about this little problem they hung up on me, (yes I was upset but in control) so I recalled them I got customer service again and asked about this problem again, so they start telling me about the pre-charge of the pending transactions and that I was in the hole way before the $66.72 and the $2.oo. So I said Looking at my account online and said, no you are wrong I was positive not in the hole, and they proceed to tell me that the amount on line was wrong, which I returned and said no it is not, (the bank manager told me to watch my account everyday so I would not get NSF's) I told her to take the $339.76 and subtract 302.48, does that leave me in the negative if it does then something is Really wrong, I want to talk to your manager, she said in a minute let me tell you how and where you went into the negative, I said I believe that I am going to contact my Lawyer and pull my account, she then said if you look you. I then said NO I WANT TO TALK TO YOUR MANAGER, she then said let me put you on hold, (I was thinking that she would hang up on me) after about 4-5 minutes she came back on and told me that they were going to have their lawyers look at it and call me with in 24 hours. I think that I will get a hold of my states attorney general, and my lawyer plus the media.
On a Friday before 4 p.m. a large sum of cash was deposited in my account at the drive thru. The money did not show up on the account until Wednesday morning. NSF fees were assessed and it was explained that it does not count until its posted and it takes two business days to post.
I can't believe all the complaints! I thought I was the only one with these EXACT issues. I would like to add that customer service in completely inconsiderate and rude. I was treated like garbage and wish there was something I could do besides leave the bank. Thank you for bailing out out trusty, reliable, considerate banks! Unbelievable. Hello 1st Bank!
they ripped me off
Last year I opened up one of your online free checking accounts to use to fund my online ebay auctions and to use bill pay out of it. I had a balance of about $170. Unknown to me, compass changed the meaning of free checking to mean a $11 fee each month if your balance was below $1500 or you direct deposit more than $300 a month.
Well I didnt use the account for a while and when I looked at the most recent statement, there is only $33 left in the account. You guessed it, Compass fee'ed the rest of it right into their corporate pocket. No letter telling me about the new fee structure, nothing. Just start taking the money, until apparently its gone.
As far as I'm concerned, Compass has behaved like thieves. They stole from me pure and simple.
I opened a free checking account. Free as in free beer. I had kept reasonable balances in my account which didn't pay any interest as far as I could tell. They gave no notice that any fees were to be imposed. They just snuck it in there so they could pocket the money still in my account. That's thieving pure and simple.
Based on this I want compass to return my money and make more of an effort to notify customers of the fee structure of their so called "Free" checking accounts. $170 might not be much to you, but it means groceries for my family or a couple of days work for me.
I can tell you this. Every time I think about that missing $150 I'm going to go out, Google up a consumer awareness website and post how Compass stole from me. And I can tell you I will be thinking about it quite often starting when I close my account with them this afternoon and get my little pocket change they graciously left me. Compass! You suck. And I'm going to make sure as many people know about your BS as possible.
money scam
BBVA Compass Azle, Texas, has refused to redeem a certificate of deposit #63089, dated January 11, 1995.
This certificate was discovered in a safety deposit box following the death of Nancy Boatman. Mr. Boatman attempted to redeem the value of the certificate in 2011 but was denied.
The certificate of deposit was issued by Azle State Bank on January 11, 1995. Following that date BBVA Compass acquired Azle State Bank in 2008. The value of the certificate has not been redeemed by Mr. or Mrs. Boatman. The initial certificate of deposit in the amount of $2, 000.00 was purchased with an agreed interest rate of 5% per year.
Mr. Boatman’s objective is to redeem the value of the Certificate of Deposit.

forgery
KRISTI MARTINSON forged my name on my bank account [protected]. My Account Information to my Checking Account to BBVA Compass Bank. The Local Assistant Manager I made the Complaint to the same business day even with Corporate did not give me any further information on why she was allowed to forge my name to a Company Policy and agreement she made a Employee decision to sign due to the Company receiving my banking account routing and account information. I did not give the authorization for any Company to draft from my checking account with a decision a Bank Worker makes.
no deposit slips anymore!
BBVA just keeps getting worse and worse. At the branch where I bank, the turnover of their employees is mind-boggling. Each time I go in, and I go in weekly, there is a new crew. Unbelievable. The place is now drab and dirty. Everyone seems very unhappy to be there. This bank is cutting back on customer service like no bank I have ever experienced. Now, in a move that defies logic, deposit slips are no longer available unless you demand one. Even then, the slip is no longer photographed so you can see, online, whose check you deposited. This valuable feature was eliminated a month ago, and has really messed up my business accounting. The bank has graciously let me know that they will provide me with pictures of checks I deposit for only $3/ck. Nice, huh? Be very careful with these jokers. They know, full well, that most people will now blindly deposit checks and trust that tellers accurately record a total for the same. With the ultra-high turnover they now have, it's absolutely possible that scamming tellers will soon be working the cages at your local BBVA branch, very soon. "Let's see---I thought I just deposited $2500 in checks, but my deposit receipt says "$2450. I guess I added wrong. Oh well, I'll trust this nice young lady. She's better at math than me." Think that won't happen? Think again. Be very careful. You've been warned. For the record, I'm not saying, here, that BBVA is out to scam you. That would be a scam done by a teller. Without deposit slips, though, this type of scam becomes far easier. I have a gut feeling that BBVA may close up shop in the US fairly soon. I have no insider info on that, but they just seem to be cutting back on more and more services, or charging you for formerly free services, to the point where I can't believe they want to stay in business, here.

scam
Compass bank wanted My thunb print to cash a check drawn on their bank then they had the nerve to tell me that it would cost me 10% of the value of the check to cash it! They need to put 'Their' thumb print on it. They are getting away with bank robbery in reverse and need to be stopped now!
Is this the way to grow your customer base? If ANY banks should fail and go away for good, CompASS should be one of them. Everybody should read this and boycott Compass bank. Their policy makers need to be locked up in jail.
stealing deposits
I have 4 CDs for $1, 000 each in the name of each of my children that I put away in 1994 in Guarantee Federal Bank. Guaranty Federal was taken over by Compass and they assume responsibility for all assets and liabilities for this institution. On August 9, 2011 I contacted Compass to see about cashing out these 4 CDs so my children could have their money. Originally I was told that the money had been turned over to the State of Texas. I contacted the State only to be told that they were not holding any funds in my name or my childrens names. Compass Bank then told me they would have to turn the information over to their legal department to locate as the CDs were so old and I would be contacted in 3 to 5 days both by mail and phone. For a month now I have repeadly called the person handling this matter and left message after message for her to PLEASE call me. I have not received a call yet or any information.
Yesterday I finally emailed everyone I had spoken to with in Compass and the employee who was suppose to call me originally finally emailed back saying they have no information and as far as she was concerned the accounts were closed.
The accounts were never closed and BBVA Compass is atempting to steal $4, 000 plus 17 years worth of interest from my 4 children. What nice people. I did file a complaint with the FDIC today but that is another 60 day wait and who knows what kind of response I will get from the US Government.
I have the original CDs and have provided BBVA Compass copies of these on 2 seperate occassions. I guess they lost the first copies I scaned and emailed to them. It is one excuse after another. I believe they think if they ignor me long enough I will go away. WRONG! Next stop is an attorney.
I will bad mouth BBVA Compass Bank every chance I get.

bbva swindles fees
Opened a free checking account with BBVA COMPASS for 25.00 the first of the year. Four months into the contract they started withdrawing 8.95 from my free checking.
This caused my checking account after 3 months to become overdrawn. There was no warning or notice of the changes. They stole and caused my account to become overdrawn. After calling Irene Navarro rep.#5429 supervisor Pharr, Texas she told me she could only refund 1 8.95 charge leaving me with negative balance of -15.95. not acceptable.Called back spoke to Patrick French Birmingham, ALA a manager. Was told he could zero out the account and steal my 25.00 in the process. In my opinion this company is very UNETHICAL. Also the company has SPANISH leadership and NOT AN AMERICAN BANK!
Stay Away from BBVA Compass on any business dealings you have. They run debits before credits and I have direct deposit and the day I get paid my money will not show up as posted until the next day. If I use the debit card before the balance shows posted and not pending I get charged a fee so if I get paid friday it will show as pending credit then it truely wont be availible till saturday. Stay away from this bank. The people are non helpfull. Bank of America and Chase are a better way to go. They process credits and then debits and limit the fees they charge...Glade to be done with this bank...
Frozen account
I have been a Compass Bank member for 5 years. I recently had moved and changed my address with the bank. I changed my address on a Monday and my account was Froze evidentially sometime Friday afternoon. Needless to say it was Saturday Morning before I realized there was a problem. I tried to put gas in my car and my card declined. I had just received a...

One would anticipate at least the branch manager to be an honest business man who does not withhold information from his/her "valued" customers. Upon signing up with BBVA Compass, I was promised a signing incentive which I had not received. Upon further investigation, I was told I no longer qualified and would not be delivered the promised incentives.
No free money. Fine. My primary complaint is how long they strung me along to keep my account open before finally telling me they would not be fulfilling the deal promised - months. Literally, months.
Aside from the issue that I cannot trust this bank, many other problems popped up. One day they would not let me cash my check (yes, MY bank would not let me cash MY check) insisting I could only deposit it to be held for 24 hrs before I could access it. Debit charges on gas, groceries... everything... take sometimes DAYS to post.
If I had any positive feedback, I would include it as well. Unfortunately, I have been given no reason to leave such feedback.
Closed my accounts and will never give them my business again.

Don't let their social media person fool you. I worked there for a while and I can tell you for a fact the employees are unhappy. There has been a lot of turnover with the new Spanish-owned BBVA coming in and hiring mostly Spanish speaking employees. Either from the BBVA in Spain or the other bank they own in Mexico. It has really left the American's feeling very unhappy and unfortunately, they translates to bad customer service. And don't let them stop you from posting their mistakes and trying to help others. Believe me, they are not looking out for your best interest. I think comments like yours helped to bring about reform with Regulation E last year (which cost BBVA plenty in fee income) and will continue to help as time goes on. Thanks!

taking money
Two weeks ago we discovered fradulant charges from our checking account. I called the compass 1800 number to get the activity reported. The decision was made to shut the account down and open a new one. A hold was placed on the account with fradulant activity due to both the pending fradulant claimant as well as my direct deposit from my employees. I was assured thenly credits to the account would be allowed and there was no need to worry about any debits are not authorized to come out. However they failed to inform me that the remaining funds would be frozen as well. I had no access to any of my money. I could not even put gasin my car. I had to call the local branch and plead with them to release only enough money so i could put gas in mycar. The claim was investigated and the funds were returned to my account. Two days later, the bank allowed the same person to debit my account for the exact amount as the previous claim. The force paid this even though the account was frozen to prevent debits. I had tickle another claim yesterday and cannot close the account. Yesterday my direct deposit from my employees was not credited to my account. After five hours of calls I was able tiger them to place my paycheck into my new account. This morning at 8 am I had 3031.00 in my account. At 2:30 pm I discovered that my account was negative 187.00. My paycheck that took me so long to get credited to the new account was removed and the money cannotbe found in either one of my three accounts. I could not by.groceries or put gas in my car. Essentially my family and I cannot do anything for the memorial day weekend as we now have no money. I have been patient with this bank until today. Looks like I need to find another bank and start over.
bait and switch
Loans at very reasonable rates boarding on questionably low rates are offered with no intention of being lent. It is my personal opinion that there is no money to be loaned out whatsoever. The loan applications are accepted with comments like: No problem with your great credit. Then the weeks go by while you wait. There is never a loan! In the meantime, you have made arrangements for all of your income to be automatically deposited, and all of your auto debits and charges. This is what they are waiting for... to make money on you. They should change their name to Compost. Compass brings visions of the world ... spinning for change. Compost brings visions of fermenting garbage! They promise to help while they bilk you. Go to a Credit Union!

outrageous fees - poor customer service
I have a small business and unfortunately opened a checking and savings account with this bank. I had most of the money in the savings account and would transfer funds into checking as needed. I was supposed to have automatic notifications on both cell phone and email but never got any notifications. I received $608 in overdraft in 1 month and being the money grubbers BBVA is, they refused to return any of these fees. Mind you, I had plenty of money to cover my bills in my savings account and was counting on the automatic notifications to help me keep track - bad idea on my part. They are not the friend of the small business or anyone else I can think of. I would never recommend this bank to anyone! Stay away from them!

fixed term (not rate???) loan
After spending 30 minutes on the phone opening the account and confirming numberous times that it was a fixed rate loan I opened it. Two months later I found out it was a variable rate loan! Then I called and kept asking for a manager but they didnt want to talk to me. Waited days for the manager to call me back and got nothing. Bbva=masters in the art of deception! Bbva compass is a bad bank! Stay away from them!
Something happened to my text on this post so I am posting it again:
Thanks Carolina. I talked to the BBVA person you referred me to today. She did not want to admit the flier and my sales call in opening the account was very deceiving. Because it is all in print (body text size) she said. I must be really stupid to have not understood what I was signing up for even after spending so much time with the sales person?
Then, I asked to speak to her manager. Of course, that is not allowed. I got this answer a lot at BBVA. NO, you can NOT talk to a manager!
I talked to a different manager there once before that wanted to change the terms of my account. I am not sure what happened to him. I will will NEVER, NEVER, NEVER do business with this bank again. How can a customer continue with a company after feeling soo deceived. It is obvious now this is how they get customers. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND STAY AWAY FROM BBVA COMPASSS BANK!

frozen account
I was a customer of Guaranty Bank for over a year when BBVA Compass took over, and I have been with BBVA for a year now, so I have had this account for a total of over two years now. Two weeks ago I decided that I would open a savings account because I was saving up for a large purchase and wanted to keep that money separate from my checking account. I opened the account online and the opening deposit was deducted from my checking account; I received all of the nice "welcome" emails and everything was hunkey dorey...not! Two days later, on payday, I go into the bank to make a transfer from my checking to my new savings and low and behold Houston we have a problem. Apparently, BBVA ran my information through EWA (a company that is gradually replacing Checksystems), and discovered that SIX years ago my name was placed in this database therefore I was a fraud risk to BBVA so they froze not only the new savings account but also my EXISTING checking account (of over two years), and they were in the process of closing both. How inconvenient for me that my payroll check (of over $4500) had just been electronically deposited that very day! This was a Friday afternoon and thank goodness I had decided to do some banking on my lunch hour or I would have been totally screwed all weekend. They completely cut off my access to MY money! I went through a huge hassel trying to withdrawal my paycheck while the teller and supervisor called several FRAUD departments, right there at the counter! I should mention that the line was long, there were only two other tellers open and the customers in line (angry and impatient at this point) could hear every word of what was going on. I was extremely embarassed and finally I asked to see the branch manager and demanded to be allowed to sit in his office where I could have some privacy and try to maintain at least a shred of dignity. Finally they agreed to allow me to withdrawal my pay but the remaining $500 or so is being held for 3 weeks so that they can earn interest on it before sending it back to me by mail. Please do not become a victim of this Nazi bank.

This is a horrible bank. I would like everyone to know. My daughter cried yesterday because she can not get her braces. It took me 6 months to save up for that and took the money to compass to hold for 5 days and lost 400 dollars in 5 days.
Horrible I repeat steer clear.
I opened the account on Friday and on Tuesday went to get funds that had saved up for daughters braces and was told frozen due to a charge off. I should have been told this before the opening of the account. Savings for braces gone. I usually bank with Navy Federal and thought I would give them a chance since they were close to the house. This was a 400 dollar mistake. Please stay away from Compass BBVA this could be you and your child.
I HAD A HORRIBLE EXPIERIENCE ALSO. THAY HAVE TOOK AND FROZEN 400 DOLLARS FROM ME FROM A 2014 CHARGE OFF AND LEFT MY 12 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER AND I OUT IN THE COLD.

home mortgage bait and switch
Six days prior to our official closing date on our new home, they inform us that our interest rate will not be 4.8 to 5.1 and changed to over 6% on a 30 year mortgage. We only used Compass because of their affiliation with our builder Toll Brother's in Colorado. Suddenly, we are stuck between a rock and a hard place. This change was based on our 1099 status...a fact that Compass knew in September when they began our loan application process. We are livid about this and wonder if we are the only ones out there. Until they make some corrections or modifications, we are determined to give them the most bad press we can. Do not use this bank! They are not to be trusted.

Back in October I called to get my payoff on my home loan, it was $7, 000.00. Now in April its $6, 924.00, suppose to pay off next month. How is this possible? When I called Compass they couldnt give me an explination. They kept transfering me to one person to the next. My payment has been drafted from my checking account monthly for the las 15 years, so I was never late. So Im contacting my attorney in the morning! This bank is a rip off, I will never use it again.
