5/12/10 12:15 PM ish got a call from 916 area code, a Matt (Lin/Lim/Ling? didn't quite catch last name) called me from this company and proceeded to tell me they are trying to recover a debt due to an EFT that came back as NSF - in August 29, 2008. First of all I knew this couldn't be true but he said that didn't matter it will still be reported to the credit agency. I decided to burden myself with disproving him because I knew it wasn't true, though this guy just came off very annoying from the bat. I called him back on the [protected] ext 3559 number he gave me within 10 minutes to say I have proof. But the person who picked up the phone was fumbling though he just needed to get me to the extension. He asked me instead for reference #s, but did not recognize the two that Matt gave me. So I gave him my name, and then the next thing I heard was, "What is your maiden name?" Apparently Matt had gotten the phone now - and the answer to which either he should already have or doesn't need to know.

So I proceeded to tell him that I have the information proving his accusation wrong, so what I need him to do is send me a formal letter and we'll proceed from there. I said it is very strange that the original owner of the 'debt' didn't contact me - or (incorrectly) resubmit the EFT. He got very haughty and defensive when I said this sounds scammy and went on and on about how the original owner of my 'debt' went out of business (Pay Day Services) but I just cut him short.

Anyway - they reek of something totally unprofessional. Sounds like they are really reaching for a scam here - but this is a bad one an my intelligence is insulted. Maybe Pay Day Services did go out of business and they acquired ALL the client files and they are playing with people. Or maybe, if i give them the benefit of the doubt, Pay Day Services made a mistake on my account and CRS received it that way and did not research whatsoever and CALLS people at work instead of writing a letter and gives them no real reference (intentional, probably) and doesn't care if the debt is valid or not and doesn't care whether they are asking people for sensitive information or is doing negative or illegal things to their credit and during the collection process.

I've seen other complaints of this nature on the web, I hope everyone complains and stops these idiots.

What happens to these people when you submit a claim on this site? Is there somewhere else to go to stop them other than hiring a lawyer myself?

There phone number is no longer in service just a heads up as of 4th of March of 2011. I had paid them for a debt and never received a receipt stating it was paid. So I understand your frustration. I received a letter from the original creditor who owned the account stating that now I owe even more money. The California Recovery Systems should of never been given a business license at all. They are unprofessional and they don't followup with you and tell you they no longer have a copy of your file.
