Software Tech Support
Purchased support and software from Techgeekx for years with complete satisfaction. I called on 3/6/2020, they told me they changed their name to Caligeeks and must pay $249 for 3 year software tech support, which I did. Shortly after that the Pandemic hit, they vanished, called them several times with no one responding. Recently received an email message from them, I called and talked to Adam about an Outlook problem, he demanded more money to upgrade my system with a long explanation that was completely meaningless. Asked to speak to a manager, he said he was the manager, and no one higher to speak to.
Bottom line, they are grabbing any amount of money they can get, and will not help until you pay.
Very disappointed.
Desired outcome: to honor the contract i paid for, valid till 3/5/2023
Roku
In January 2020 I searched for Roku when I bought a Tv and somehow got your site. When I talked to someone they told me the only way I could watch Roku was to pay you. I have since found out that this is untrue and fraud. I paid believing I had to. Invoice #29964 dated 1/27/20.
I would like a refund. Please respond to [protected]@hotmail.com
Desired outcome: Response to [protected]@hotmail.com and full refund of $79.99
Roku tv set up fee
While setting up my new roku tv I went to set up amazon prime and I received a code and told to contact a 188 number it was caligeeks inc and they said I had to pay a one time fee (170.00) said it was an Amazon security feature which later i found out is [censored]. They said I wouldn't be to sign on until I did. I would like my money back

Roku registration account
On 11/25/2020 I went to set up my Roku account on my TV. It displayed that my account was temporarily locked to call this phone number. So I called the phone number to set up my Roku account. They told me I had to pay $54.99 to register my account. Found out Roku does not charge anything to set up Roku account. Called 11/30/20 and they told me they would refund my money. Have only been refunded $30. Called again 12/03/20. They said they would refund me the rest. Have not received my refund as of 12/07/20. Found out thru BBB that this company is a third party. Nothing to do with Roku. Please get my money back.
Roku account setup
On November 10th 2020 I went to set up my Roku account on my TV it displayed that my account was temporarily locked to call this phone number so I called the phone number to set up my Roku account they told me I had to pay $76.99 for five years of my Roku found out Roku does not charge anything to set your account up this was a scam please get my money back
Charge for service they claimed to be roku
CaliGeeks, Inc
Caligeek hacked my TV. Stopped video from showing and stated if we did not pay them due to new software then we could not use the TV. They told me that they were the Roku company. They stated the upgrade comes with increased programs. The new chanels they put on my TV were all free chanels I could have put on myself. They basically hacked my TV directed me to their web page, impersonated Roku and held my TV hostage if I did not pay them. The following is a detailed account of the incident:
The phone number of the fraudulent support website. +[protected]
My TV screen told me to go to URL address: Roku/link
Site
https://www.rookucomlink.online/error-php/
Name of company that charged me : Caligeeks
Amount $84.99
It looks like a legitimate Roku web page.
We called the number believing we were contacting Roku. The person we spoke too told us that they were Roku and that new software was updated. Because the TV was factory reset we would have to upgrade our package but we would get many more channels and movie options. We needed to pay about $13 per month or $99 for 5 years, or $150 for lifetime. We told him the TV is not working and we did not want more chanels we just want the TV to work again. He said that he would put the updated program on so we can test and make sure the TV works but without the updated software after he takes it off the computer will not work unless we pay for the upgrade and program. So he told us to turn on the TV and try putting a movie on from NETFLIX and then he had us turn to our cox cable access to test if the TV works. The audio and video worked and the TV appeared to be fixed. So I told him that the TV is now working so we do to want the upgrade and expanded programs. He told me that in two minutes when he takes the upgraded software off my TV would not work again. I asked him "so I have to pay you to use my TV?" He confirmed that unless we buy the upgraded software and programming the TV will not work. So we thought we had no other choice. He said that we were a good customer as we bought the TV 3 years ago and he had permission to give us a discount and we could get lifetime programming for $75 plus tax. We reluctantly agreed because as we saw it we either pay them or get another TV. We had spent close to $1, 000 on the smart TV. The final charge was $84.99. He now had my debit card number and 3 digit security code and phone number. He then showed us the expanded chanels. We turned onto he TV as he instructed and after NETFLIX there were about 15 new apps/chanels. Some were -Crackle, Peacock, Xumo, and Pluto among others. He told us that the charge would come in as Caligeeks. I was sceptical but figured Roku has this service done my third party sister company.
I did not get a reciept for the charge or any reciept or email about the services or upgrade.
The next day we realized that all the new chanels he put on our TV were actually free anyway. We could have put the chanels on ourselves as they are all free. We did a search on the phone number and company name Caligeeks. Many pages came up with complaints about fraudulent charges with similar experiences to us.
We have canceled the card, changed Roku password, removed all new channels, changed passwords and payment form with all paid programming, and disputed the charge.
I am also including phone shots of the process that brought me in contact with them. On my TV screen I was told to go to the address Roku / link. Picture of this is provided. Because it's not an actual URL it brought it up as a search. I have read similar complaints where others were directed to their caligeeks information through a search. I have provided a picture which shows the first link appears to be Roku link which will be used to enter a code. I failed to see that it was actually an ad. I was giving a four digit code on my TV and instructed to enter that code at Roku / link. I have included a picture which shows what pops up when you click that ad. It appears to be an official Roku web page in which the 4 digit code should be entered for services. I have also put a picture of the error page which appears that the code did not activate the TV and I was instructed to call the 888 number. When I called the 888 number I was on the phone with someone who said they were a representative of Roku and that they would help me with my services. This was actually caligeeks misrepresenting themselves. Because he told me my TV would not work without paying him I felt I had to pay him. While I was on the phone with him he could manipulate my TV. He got my TV working well and when I said now that it's working I don't want your extended program he told me that he would turn the TV off in 2 minutes unless I paid him. This is extortion. Roku does not charge for services or programming. The programs you put on my TV were actually free channels I could have put on by myself.
The next day I checked with Roku and they do not charge for service ever. I complained to the BBB and Caligeeks responded saying they never charged me. I am disputing this and sent BBB my account history showing Caligeek charges. I am awaiting to here back.
Misrepresentation of roku
I called a number for roku to do an update on my tv. These scammers told me I had to do an update to 4k on my tv to get it to work. He did the update and it did work no denying that. It is a free update. I was the. To, d it was 179.00 for 20 devices forever or 100.00 for 1 for five. I thought about it for awhile and did some checking and found out that roku does not charge. He rooked me out of 179.00 why the heck do people feel it is okay to steal other people's money. They are thieves! Nothing less. Preying on people who may not totally understand everything. He was smart. Logged into my tv. Had the documents. Talked a good game. Well I know one thing they are thieves. Nothing else!...

This is a complete scam and i want my money return back before we take legal action. We have contacted roku and they confirmed they do not charge activation fee at all. Roku
I was updating my Roku and a screen came up on TV saying to call for help. I had to go on smartphone to enter code. That's when the number popped up for help. For 3 years, five years or lifetime.
He said I had to do this to be able to use Roku. I gave them my card information to make payment now a d the next 3 minths and later realized it was a scam. I want a refund.

Yes it was a scam and the guy was convincing but I am so mad at myself for falling for it. I was setting it up for my son and I was having trouble with the activation and the link I put in I guess there is one similar to it was a scam. I had to call a couple times. I informed them I made a police report and they were very misleading. They said it was for technical support when Roku does not charge AT ALL. If roku ask for debit card number its only to have on file so if you purchase something on the roku you do not have to enter it again. YES THEY REFUNDED MY MONEY AFTER I TOLD THEM ROKU DOESNT CHARGE AND I CONFIRMED IT THROUGH ROKU. THEN I GET A CALL AND THEY ASK ME TO TAKE THE COMPLAINT DOWN SINCE THEY REFUNDED MY MONEY ( AFTER THEY THREATENED THAT WAS SERVICE WILL BE CANCELED). I TOLD THEM I GOT MY REFUND BUT I WILL NOT TAKE THE COMPLAINT DOWN BECAUSE THEY ARE VERY MISLEADING AND TOOK ADVANTAGE!
Roku
Was told we needed to have this service to use our 2nd tiki and then could. Install up. To ten on same contract for 5 yrs! It was a scam we were charged 89.00 plus tax for a total. Of 94.99 for a service we did not need. We were misdirected to. This sought and told to call to activate our 2 nd device and it was a complete scam. And we are. Gong after our money
Scam activating roku device
A prompt on my tv directed me to go to the roku website to activate my device. I spoke with the agent at caligeeks who told me that a new (started this November) policy BY Roku requires a one time activation fee to activate the device. I was skeptical but the prompt came right from my tv after inserting my roku device and following installation prompts! Upset that roku changed their policy I started researching and found posts about a scam. I will file a dispute with my bank regarding the charge and call caligeeks (they promised a 30 day refund guarentee if I'm not satisfied) but am not too hopeful. I hope BBB or Roku will take action regarding this scam!
I guess i am in the same boat as you are. Same thing happened to me. I wish i researched and found out this info a couple days before.😔
So I guess I'm in the same boat as all of you. I wish i seen this earlier😔
The same exact thing happened to my dad last week. They literally told him word for word the same thing they told you. I don't know how they are getting into the Roku devices but once I told him he called his credit card company and they reversed the payment. Hope everything goes well for you. Best of luck.
Roku setup
I was asked to pay $89.99 for registration for the JVCV/Roku TV. The rep. said I would be able to register 20 TVs to my account if I wanted too. The rep told me it was more for support for the Roku device. But since I did not have an account set up I could pay $59-3years or $89 -lifetime. I told the rep this is a scam because Roku does not charge
to set-up. But he said look at your screen it will not work until you register the device and when I paid, the TV starting working. So I am puzzled about this, they hacked into the system.
Roku needs to get on top of this before they lose customers. I will be letting people know about this. Spread the word if it has happened to you, to stop this. Let people know. If you have followers tell them, use your social media accounts.
Roku service scam. Theft for no service.
Same problem. It starts with google corruption redirecting roku.com/link to bovoss.com fake website. Of course the code does nothing so I called the number.
The conman then informed me that the new roku policy required large amounts of cash to keep the account going.
The only convincing thing was he actually activated my device without me giving him any account info. He then restored my channels.
The process ended when he mailed me a document to sign that said I agreed to their service. Noone ever required this for a credit card purchase. That ended it for me.
Btw when I restarted my roku all channels and activation were gone and I lined it properly from my roku account.
How they got into my device is still a mystery.
Roku one time payment for a lifetime of service
Scammers! Beware! Thought we were getting a deal. We were stupid. Cost us $160. These people need to be found and sued. We used our debit card. Couldn't block the payment because of using the debit card. Same as some of the other complaints, the person we talked to were from india. Someone needs to find these people. They are stealing from innocent people who can't afford to lose hundreds of dollars. I would like them to know they took money from me that could've went for clothes for my children.
Lifetime subscription to roku protection
Scam alert. I was setting up a roku stick on another tv and I was directed to call a tech support. I did. The agent (probably located in India, by the accent) explained to me that there was some breach and that for safety I would need to pay a Lifetime guarantee subscription fee for 5 years 89.00 or so and for lifetime 130.00 or so, he was very convincing. I was surprised and told him roku does not charge additional fees but he really convinced me that by the end of the month I would be disconnected and that all other subscribers were paying... I paid and I now I realized it was a scam. They even provided me with a receipt for my payment after taking my card information.
The "company" is Caligeeks... beware.
I would like a refund.

Update: Dec 5, 2020
The company "Caligeeks Inc", continues to run scams that impacts consumers of Roku Products. Beware! The smooth talking Caligeek representatives are nothing more than well trained scam artists. It saddens me to know that Caligeek continues to fraudulent represent the Roku name. At what point will this type of activity end. The scam goes well beyond an activity fee/upgrade. This company is sophisticated and highly knowledgeable in the area of the internet and consumer technology. Please be wear and an advocate for consumer rights.
I was also scammed and need to know how I can get my money back.
I just bought a Roku smart Tv at best buy yesterday 8-6-2020 and in the process of setting it up got a error message and to call a phone number to fix it. The man on the phone had a India accent and i thought to myself that this conversation was not going to go well. I could not understand him very well but he did fix the problem. Also pressured me into buying a 5yr support contract of $62.00 for any issues that arise. I am a female of 70 years and feel l that i can spot scammers and this conversation was a red flag for me. I did receive another call back asking if i needed any further help but i did figure it out myself. In the email i received it read i could get a refund within 30 days which is what i plan on doing.
Here's what I want to know, how are they getting their information to contact them on roku devices? Did they buy a ton of them then hack their info into them and then sell them to the public? Where are you guys buying your roku devices from? I've bought 3 and my current is a new gen that just launched last October. I've never had issue with this but I've also had my roku account for a very long time so I'm not creating a new one either. Here's the deal, Roku says this is a scam and they are not affiliated with these people. This company can't just decide they are going to provide services for another company and charge that other companies customers for that service without permission or agreement/arrangements to do so. So they can claim to be real and legitimate all they want but in regards to Roku, they are not. Roku doesn't charge for set up or to create an account. Take it from me, a long time ROKU user and satisfied customer. And buy your device from a reputable company like Best Buy or Walmart. Roku's aren't that expensive to try and save a few bucks buying from some website that has this scam software incorporated into it.
If not a scam why was my fiancé" told that every roku customer will be having to pay at the end of the month! She was told that all roku customers will be deactivated until they pay the fees! liars
I paid the 159 so that I can have a lifetime but here’s the deal if it’s a scam then explain to me why until I paid the money device would not work and once I connected it then it fired up . If it is a scam can we dispute it on the credit card? And the other thing is how come on the box and gave the website the then the website gave the number ?
I was scammed also February/2020. While setting up my new Roku Ultra and almost to completion there was a notice on the TV screen that my Roku account had been denied and to call the number noted on the screen. I did (as I wanted my Roku to work). They told me (Caligeeks) that Roku had a new policy where a fee was charged for service, etc. I asked why wasn't that noted in the set-up instructions paperwork from Roku. He said because it was a new policy just instituted. Well, I was a sucker and paid! How does a scammer/hacker get into a Roku installation? I wish someone would let me know. Since, I have had to cancel my credit card, notify the FTC, notify the people I have my payments to via credit card! This has caused me much stress! Not happy! I want restitution from these criminals!
I too was setting up new roku tv and it wouldn't work so it prompted me to call roku and I got caligeeks yes they were convincing I paid $120.00 for what it didn't give me anything I didn't already have I want a refund all or part of my money its a total scam!
I was setting up my Roku Express this morning and almost fell victim to this scam. Because I looked online for Caligeeks and roku, this scam alert posting popped up. I told the guy on the phone to give me proof that they were working with Roku, and he could not, so I told him this was a scam and if I see a charge on my credit card I will sue him!
wish we had looked into this before doing this. My husband just did they same exact thing. Did they ever charge your account for anything else>? just wondering if we need to get a new bank card
