camp leaders are scammers
judging by other people's reviews most of them weren't lucky enough and think they were scammed. Well, their thoughts are not without foundation.
I and three friends of mine went through the same and are ready to tell you about this experience.
Where to begin? I wanted to get some job for this summer. I don't know why I hadn't read those reviews, maybe I would have prevented myself from one of the biggest disappointment of this year.
I asked my three good friends to support me and we applied together and paid the money for this, of course. Even though we didn't know it wasn't free. But their ads promised that the percent of the placed ones was very high.
A little bit later we were invited to be interviewed, and then they said they would call us later. So that's all.
No one called us back, so we tried to contact them to get the refunds at least. Why would we pay for nothing? Not sure it's even legal. but they made everything much harder and refused to communicate with us.
We have been trying to get some justice. We can't afford to give up, we should be the voices of all the people who paid, but got nothing. It's called a scam and we have to stop it.

don't use them
I spent plenty of time on this company that let me down. I entered as soon as they opened their applications. I've gone through all of their contests to hear that I was late and there's nothing they could do.
I'm sorry, lads, but don't you think that it's unfair?
I would like to be notified before applications, I'm sure you knew I would be late from the very start, but preferred to take my money and stay silent.
According to their rules and policies, my money can't be refunded. But you assured me that my dates were fine.
You're not trustful and absolutely unreliable.
Negative
My son sent an application to CampLeaders and passed the interview. He went to one of these camps in America and worked there. He was very disappointed and said that the whole thing was just a waste of time, they don't give that much of useful experience, payment is very low, working hours are too long. CampLeaders employees don't have much time to rest, they are always busy and there are a lot of work there.
CampLeaders just seemed too good to be true. Also my son had five days before leaving and he wanted to travel a bit. But these guys made him stay till the end and did not let him go.
Don't deal with this company.

They took money and didn't contact me
I decided to try my hands at working as a camp leader in summer. I filled the form and provided my personal info to the rep from the company www.campleaders.com. I got the response that I needed to provide a payment for the registration in amount of £400, but after that the rep told me that they would contact me. It was lie, no one called me back and they took my payment. I sent emails and messages, but they ignored me and no idea how to get money back. I hoped that someone would help me.
There are hidden costs and unexpected hassles
I have used camp leaders for three years and given them thousands of pounds for a service which as, at best, severely shabby. There are hidden costs and unexpected hassles so let me just outline a few for those of you considering. Needless to say- this company and those like it (Camp America, etc) have monopolized to market so that if you want to work at a summer camp, you have to use the service. Let me go on.
As a first year user- you pay around £500 for a visa, flights and placement at camp. Not bad you say? They also shadily take away two thirds of your end salary without actually telling you in black and white. You think youve got $2000 to travel with? Try $700.
As a returner you pay them around £500 to... do... nothing. "admin". And then you have to book your own flights and visa. Sure! You get the full salary! But surely youre paying enough out before then for this to even merit.
The customer service is absolutely rubbish- I was told that the office had 'mislaid' my passport pictures meaning that my visa was delayed. A week before I flew I still didnt have flight details and when I emailed inquiring I was asked 'are you really desperate for them?'.
At the end of the day- its a great experience that I would recommend to anyone. However if you can find a non-profit organization offering the same services then would thoroughly recommend you go that way instead.

Hi,
Just want to leave a review on camp leaders.
I came from the uk with hopes of being placed at a summer camp.
Paid my money, had one interview and got that.
I then had to pay a little bit extra just so the company could get me over here but that’s not the worst of it.
Arrived in New York was assigned to independent lake camp 🏕️
Great experience, kind people but everyone was antleast about 10 years younger than myself and all they had was questions.
If I ever had any questions the uk office wouldn’t help and I was always directed to the us office who always promised to call back and never did.
The diversity was not there I probably saw two black head counselors and then there was myself.
They talk about having diversity but it’s clear there and a lot of parts of America are still racist and it’s always indirect.
They released me after 1 week because one of the counselors happened to search my name online and found I did a dating show for SCIENTIFIC PURPOSES. They printed it out, passed it around, laughed, smiled and plotted to get me out by sending it to the manager of the camp who then spoke to me and asked me to leave for soemthing that happened over 5-7 years ago.
I’m not upset I did that show but I’m upset that they maliciously did this to me when they knew I worked hard and everybody loved me. The kids would’ve loved me and they gave me a GOOD WILL GESTURE to cover the fact that they were wrong and couldn’t even look me in my eye.
They stuck me in a room until they could find transport and didn’t allow me to speak to anyone. People judge, assume, dictate but most of all they hate seeing a black man thrive whose got everything going for themselves so they do everything in their power to shut that down and hide once they do it.
I told camp leaders who couldn’t understand why that happened and said that’s the first anything like this has happened and I knew they would say that as if I’m an individual who had asked for this to happen?!
Sent me to New York where I had to fend for myself
Used uk all my money paying for travel, food, hotels and so on.
Asking family to stay here and there
They then found me another camp, accepted the offer but failed to mention the camp need a copy of my polio vaccination which is something I could’ve sorted before I had left the uk.
Camp leaders are saying that that was out of their control but they could’ve done more in regards to help rather than say it’s all up to you. It’s just a matter of accountability and responsibility because I had all my documents so if they knew I had to go to New York in the first place they could’ve told me just incase make sure you have that document because all over New York they need that document.
All in all it was a waiting game in New York and my family had to tell me to leave and I ended up sleeping on a park bench then having to go to a hostel. With no money and no way of getting back home.
This is by far the worst experience and all the company and people back home can say is you should’ve had more money, you should’nt have gone, you shouldve sued the company. It’s all shoulda woulda coulda rather than listening and giving me positive reinforcement.
Thankyou camp leaders for getting me here but I don’t thank you for how everything was dealt and sorted. This experience makes me feel that most Americans are like this and I’m sure they aren’t because some of my roots are here but how everything has played out I’m broken not only on the inside but the outside too.
This could’ve been rectified and sorted better rather than me having to do the run around everyday and getting no where.
It’s true that people will be envious, jealous and seek to destroy you in anyway.
It’s sad that companies and people will do this to you.
Camp leaders need to answer for themselves because you ruined my whole experience
If your of colour I would advise that you be wary of some companies and some individuals such as independent lake.
I thought it was all amazing until this.
I don’t want this to happen to anyone else that’s why I’m telling my story.
While I’m writing this I’m still feeling the effects of the whole situation.
