Defective Furniture
We purchased a sofa & recliner set from their Stuart store in December 2010. This piece of crap was made in China for Klaussner Furniture and the seats went flat two weeks later, because they used low density foam. A month later, we found out they closed down their Stuart store and we had to deal with their main office at Coconut Creek. After our frustration trying to get a refund of at least get this garbage replaced or repaired, and due to lack of cooperation from their incompetent Disservice Department, we ended up taking them to Small Claims Court in Broward County, because that is what they put in their fine print of their contract. They promised to repair our garbage, but they haven't done it, because the replacement seat cores are supposed to come from China.
Over a year has gone by, and we are still stuck with this piece of garbage and almost sitting on the frame, because there is no much cushion left.
Looking through the internet, I just found out these people are in bankruptcy and one of the major creditors is Klaussner Furniture. It is obvious that Klaussner Furniture does not want to pour any more money into their sinking ship.
BUYERS BEWARE! Do not buy anything from a company in bankruptcy. Instead, check out BJ's, Sam's Club or Costco, because if you are not satisfied with your purchase, at least they have a better return policy.
Forgot to Deliver Furniture
I met with Designer TC and she was a great and consultant. I wanted to purchase bedroom furniture from the Martha Stewart East Hampton series, which was reduced as it was being discontinued by Carls. I negotiated a fair price with Linda the manager and agreed to a Friday delivery date.
I received a call on Wed stating the delivery driver would call me Fri am with a 4 hour window of delivery time. I received two emails the day before stating Friday was my delivery day and they would call to give me a better estimate the morning of delivery. The called and said between 2-6 pm. Great! They never called back, never came to deliver, or to say we need to reschedule.
I went back to the Carls warehouse and went around back to the loading dock Saturday morning. I found someone who was in charge and told him the story. He quickly told me that I was at the Carl's Patio loading dock and I had to go a little further down the drive. I asked if this is common practice to not deliver or call to alert the customer. He kinda chuckled and said they were two separate companies, Patio and Carls Furniture, under the same roof, but yes said it's kinda common over there.
I didn't bother going to find the furniture delivery group as I now wanted to meet with the manager. When I returned and found TC, she apologized and appeared to be sincere. She found the paperwork and said she would find out what happened when the warehouse manager arrived in the afternoon. I asked to speak with a manager and met with Bob. He apologized and asked if I still wanted the furniture. His first and only offer was to now waive the $99 delivery fee and $100 for my time and could re-deliver on Tuesday. I told him I lost a days pay as I'm commissioned waiting for his team. I didn't mind 4 hours off work, but their email said am and their drive said pm delivery, hence the full day off. I said I would like the delivery waived and $300 credit on the $3000 furniture order. He said no. When I mentioned the comments from the guy at Carls Patio, it struck a nerve with him because he went into a rant about how the break up between Carls Patio and Carls Furniture was really bloody, unfair, etc. Why is he confessing to me? Hello Bob, are you new here?
Anyway, I thanked TC, told her I hope she didn't lose too much commission and got my credit memo which shows a full refund. Since they wouldn't process a real credit on my visa card like most merchants, I immediately disputed the charges on my card. These slugs don't like to give money back. Felt like they were little less scrupulous that Brandsmart, if you can imagine that.
Bottom line, I went to Baers furniture in Ft Lauderdale and ordered the furniture and they gave me a price mach based off the Carls invoice and 12 months SAC with 0%. Fred Friedman who used to run Carls is probably rolling in his grave to see how far this upscale wanna-be company has slid. At this rate they’ll be out of business soon. Buyer Beware
Design Department - Drapes
I ordered custome drapery from Carls over 6 months ago. My order totaled over $100, 000 for a complete house of new drapery and Hunter Douglas blinds. If you want lost orders, misplaced orders, unfinished orders, orders not completed on scheduled date, or delivery issues, installation issues, "no-call backs", and to top it off broken windows due to istallation Carls is the place to go. It has been 6 months and my master bedroom is still not finished, still have a broken window, and 4 blinds are still not installed. I called the manager and he didn't return my call. When he did, he gave some excuse that the sticky note was placed on the back of his computer, he then said he would look into the situation and call me the follow Tuesday, quess what! he didn't call...typical of Carls. My experience with the furniture did go smoothly thanks to a sales person named Leslie. My advice don't go to Carl's furniture.

Constantly moving delivery date
My wife and I decided to completely redo our bedroom including new furniture. We went to several locations and settled on a complete set from Carl's Furniture. The bed was a special order "From China" so we put up a sizable deposit. They gave us a 12 week estimated delivery time but we really liked the set so we accepted. From time to time they would call...

I SPEICAL ORDER 4 DINNING ROOM CHAIRS FROM CARL'S FURNITURE, MANUFACTURED BY BURMACK, A CANADIAN OUTFIT. INITIALLY I WAS TOLD IT WOULD TAKE FIVE WEEKS AND THIS WAS HAND WRITTEN ON MY RECEIPT. IT HAS BEEN SIX MONTHS AND I STILL DO NOT HAVE THE FURNITURE. I PUT DOWN FIFTY PERCENT UP FRONT FOR THE ORDER. I HAVE CALLED THE SALESMAN MIKE HAYES, ASSISTANT MANAGER ANETA, MANAGER BOB GARLAND WITH NO RESOLVE. I HAVE BEEN TOLD IT'S ON THE TRUCK AND SHOULD BE DELIVERED NEXT WEEK AND NEXT WEEK COMES AND NO FURNITURE. THEN I AM TOLD THAT THERE IS A BOND THAT HAS DEFAULTED BY CARL'S WITH BURMACK AND THAT HAS BEEN RECTIFIED AND YOU SHOULD BE GETTING DELIVERY NOT LATER THAN TWO WEEKS. STILL NO FURNITURE. I AM TOLD IT IS ON THE WAY WE JUST DO NOT KNOW HOW MANY STOPS THE TRUCK HAS TO MAKE BUT NO LATER THAN TWO WEEKS. STILL NO FURNITURE. NOW NO ONE WILL ANSWER MY PHONE CALLS. I TRIED CALLING CORPORATE AND THEY PASS IT BACK TO THE COCONUT CREEK STORE LOCATION. A VICIOUS CIRCLE. CUSTOMER SERVICE IS DEAD AT CARLS. I HOPE TO GET MY MONEY BACK. IN TODAYS ECONOMICS YOU WOULD THINK A BRICKS AND MORTOR FURNITURE STORE WOULD ATTEMPT TO DO RIGHT BY ITS CUSTOMERS; HOWEVER, THIS IS ALMOST FUNNY AT THIS POINT. I FEEL LIKE I AM BEING PUNKED!

Same situation happened to me with my bedroom furniture with the local in Miami
SLOW refund
As with any retail establishment, Carls was very quick to take my money. I paid by check. However, within 2 days, I decided to cancel the order, and rethink how I wanted to furnish. The furniture was not a special order; it was sitting in their local warehouse. It never left the warehouse. However, on the back of the receipt, in very fine print, was a notice that even my salesman wasn't aware of: if you pay by cash or check, it will take from 2 to 4 weeks to receive a refund. The salesman actually thought it was what all other stores state: about 10 business days. I was, of course, upset that this company would hold onto a customer's money for no other reason other than because they can. Turns out, the controller cut the check within a week, but the owner, Jeff Baker, held onto it until the maximum time elapsed. I received my check after about 5 weeks, which exceeded what the fine print said. Naturally, I took my business elsewhere after that, and spent $30k that Carls could have had if they had treated their customers like people they wanted to have return.
You should have checked my complaint before you shopped there! You'll probably get your money back, but the owner, Jeff Baker, keeps the money in his cheap suit pocket for the whole time. I give Carls a year, and they're gone.
Carl's Fort Lauderdale sold me a floor sample that I paid for by check. Two days later, salesman tells me the floor sample had already been sold and that he was unaware of it. He said he would check other Carl's stores to see if they had any stock. They didn't, so I asked for my money to be returned. After SEVEN (7) weeks of phone calls and lies...I finally got my refund.
I would recommend staying away from Carls...my friend has been trying to get the correct loveseat to her couch delivered for over a month. After several excuses, they finally deliver it...STAINED and CANNOT FIND THE LEGS TO THE LOVESEAT
I posted my complaint here but it has not appeared yet but I had a very similar problem but with a 1200 deposit. I threatened them I would issue a charge back on my card and begin legal proceedings if they did not credit my card that very day. They tried to tell me all kinds of tales to delay it but just stick to your guns and accept absolutely no excuse. They got me my credit within the hour. I made sure they understood that I would not be passive and would immediately call my card to verify they had issued the credit. I explained I would not accept a simple "it's done" but wanted the transaction ID of their card terminal. Don't let them push you around.
I agreed, purchased a sofa in aug. 2009 and i am still waiting for the sofa to be delivered. now is oct 2009. this company is screw up in there buss. practices. never again. they blame the times we are in, but they dont blame them selves. Its a crooked company. They accept your money and give you misleading info on arrival date of your furniture. This company deserve to be out of buss.
Carls Funiture ran an add for 50% we went to see the furniture, the salesman check and said they did not the furniture right now, but it will be delivered 4-6 weeks but they need a deposit. 3 month later no furniture and when we called to get our deposit back. customer service saids it will take 4 weeks for them to return our money. This is fraud that carls furniture is running . a good way of getting money without selling anything. no merchandize no orders, keeping customer deposit for 4 month. 500.00 depsit times thousands of orders. I will never step in Carls again.
