Carney Educational Services no pay

This is a company that provides tutoring services to disadvantaged students. They are paid by individual school district.

I was expecting my first paycheck on April 15, 2012. It was never deposited. I was able to speak with the regional director in San Diego. Endless attempts to contact people in management in Palmdale have been fruitless.

I began researching this and have come across endless complaints all of which are identical.I'm trying to plan my recourse and I think that the school district for which I tutor is the place to start

Has anyone gotten paid the money they were owed from Carney after filing a claim with the labor board and having a court hearing? I just had my court hearing last week and I'm just waiting to hear back from the labor board.

READER beware! I worked for Carney (as a Program Director) and I am here to tell you that this company not only has a bad reputation, but they are dis honest, un professional, and the laughing stock of the after-school and SES world. I have been in CA after school world for over 14 years. This is the worst company I have ever worked for, that includes fast food...lolz. All the things that I read, are the same things that Mike was saying and doing EVEN when the company had $$ and was successful. They are greedy and not truthful. I still keep in contact with many of the former employees of this company and we all agree: the sooner there is no more Carney as a company, the better off the world will be. Take it from me, I was burnt. I am glad I quit before it got to this. Thankfully I am a teacher now, but I can't tell you enough STEER CLEAR OF MIKE CARNEY! GO to the labor board and file your case and I suggest you get a lawyer, and have them send him a letter to recoup your money. If that does not work, then go to the school district to alert them of this fraudulent behavior. whatever you do, don't feel sorry for Mike. He has made lots of $$ on the backs of hard working people like yourself and off the backs of innocent children. shameful.

I actually got to sit down and talk with Mike Carney and he told me the hardships that the company is going through and I believe he was being truthful. Reason being is I got paid and I heard some others are getting paid. Slowly but they are getting paid. He said that he could have bankrupted the company and not have to pay anyone. He also told me that and I saw that the Palmdale office he has laid off most of the staff to try to stay in business and repay everybody.

I worked for Carney for many years and I have had the issues of not getting paid on time, but I have always been paid. They are struggling like many other companies and I wouldn't file a claim possibly putting them out of business and never get paid. They have always paid, yes maybe late but they paid. I remain confident that these students we service are getting what they need in ways of great educational services by us.

Hello,

I have also been waiting for a paycheck from Carney since December 2011. It took them 3 months to tell me what the problem was and why I hadn't received my paycheck. I was told that I would soon receive my money, but it has been 2 months later and I still have heard nothing from them. If anyone knows what can be done or who I need to contact in order to speed up the process please let me know. I am a student who has bills to pay. What has Carney done with the money they were supposed to pay me?

The office of the Superintendent of Education for the State of California in Sacramento has a division for after school programming. I would advise all tutors who have not been paid yet provided tutoring services to contact them - just google California Director of Education in Sacramento and you can find the link. They will need to know what county you worked in and they take this seriously. I have already begun the process as I am also a victim of Carney Ed. Services. I have had the same experience with buying my own supplies and providing tutoring services for kids 6 days per week with out payment. Good luck and if enough people complain about this to the right authorities, they will be shut down.

Carney Educational Services Doesn't Pay Yet Very Demanding

I totally agree with the previously stated comments from fellow ex associates. Not only is this company very demanding and expect for you to do everything when and at the time they say for you to do it, but when it comes time to you getting paid for your hard earned money, there isn't any. (At least 'til they feel like paying you.) I worked for this company for 4 years and every year things just got worse. It went from "Oh, we'll send out a paper check rather than direct deposit your money tomorrow..." to "Oh, we haven't sent anything out yet, so just please bear with us.." They blame everyone that they service for not paying them on time, there are other companies out there who offer the same types of services and who in contract with the same as this company, yet they are ABLE to pay their tutors on time. If you're gonna apply for a job here, it is going to be the biggest mistake of your life. You will work so hard and expect to receive your money on time but it never will. Out of the possible 9 pay periods that you may have by working with them since the beginning of the school year, which at orientation they make it seem as a plus if you have direct deposit because your money will be there on payday morning, maybe only about 5 will be paid on time. Of course, not counting on the fact that your bank or their actual bank might refuse to cash your check because of previous insufficient funds history. So, in the end, you will get alot of headaches with no actual thanks for your hard work. Work with this company at your own risk. :)

Carney Educational Services Doesn't pay Employees and he gets paid

Carney is a horrible company to work for. I have worked as a teacher and tutor for over 5 years and in the past year Carney has lied, cheated employees and students I tutor. Paying us late or bouncing checks has unfortunately become normal to us and the banks we go to refuse to cash the checks because of how many he's bounced. The worst part is that he gets paid by the districts for the work that we do and promises my students who are poor, backpacks full of school supplies and none of my families from last year or this have ever seen them. Where is the money going Carney? The kids in the after school programs don't have supplies and as teachers they ask us to go out and buy what they should be supplying when we are not being paid or reimbursed. Carney is a company that should not be in business because they say they care about the students, how can they when the students never get what they are promised.

I also got a judgement award, but having a difficult time tracking the company or Mike Carney current information because they relocated or disconnected their phone-line. If you are in the same situation, please contact me for a class action on collecting our judgement at collectcarney@gmail.com.

I am here to tell ALL of you Carney is a scam. His business partner recently sued (and won) thats why he is going through $$troubles. She sued because he was stealing money from the company. In addition, I along with 15 other former employees of the company reported Carney to BBB and to LAUSD regarding their stealing way back in 2008. I am also aware that several of my former friends took them to court and won a small settlement for back pay owed. Because I work in a school district, this is what I suggest you do: 1) Report to labor board. 2) file a small claims suit 3) Tell your current clients (private and in the school district whats going on
4) file a police report so you can use as evidence of fraud.
Trust me, there are hundreds of people like you out there who have been a victim of Carney. The ones who were diligent, prevailed under the law. I certainly did. Mike is a Fraud and has been for many years. Everyone in the field knows it. Don't feel sorry for him. He has been stealing for many years and it is starting to catch up with him.

I am having the same experience. They do not pay. I am waiting for my second check and for the second time it is late. The first time they made me wait almost two months to get paid. Now it is over a month and a half for the second time. They lie and say the deposit is on its way and it never comes. I am submitting a claim to the department of labor today.

Totally agree that they are just doing bad business practice. None of this is due to temporary financial economic problems. I have researched the company pretty extensively and the audits and complaints from tutors go all the way back to 2005, way before the current economic financial crises even occurred. Not only that, they continue to hire new employees in order to continue their cycle of fraud. A company that is truly trying to get back on their feet will stop hiring, get on a tight budget, trim all the fat, start paying what they owe, and first and foremost get a good word out about their business ethics in order to keep their company in good light for future business. They're not even trying. The last public posts in any of their public sites are from mid 2011. Let's face it they're just riding this money train as far as they can before it all comes crashing down around them.

Theres a difference between hard times and poor financial management. Since the beginning of this school year they have had financial problems, so they had us go to provider fairs and start tutoring knowing that they didn't have the financial backing. I took them months to even notify everyone through an email that they're having financial problems and will pay us as soon as possible. That email alone was over due since I was doing provider fairs way back in September/October. Further research will show that they have always had poor business practice.
http://notebook.lausd.net/pls/ptl/docs/PAGE/CA_LAUSD/FLDR_ORGANIZATIONS/FLDR_OIG_PUBLICATIONS_AUDIT_REPORTS/CARNEY%20SUPPLEMENTAL%20EDUCATIONAL%20SERVICES.PDF
There is a link of them being audited in 2011
and they were actually audited another time before that in 2007.
You can believe its financial troubles because of the economy, but I believe its because of just poor business practice and organization.

Carney Educational Services Payment

Do not work for this company! They keep hiring new employees and do not pay their old employees! When you try to reach anyone about your paycheck they brush you off to the next person or try to hide behind "supposed meetings." They are now over a week late on paying me with no word back on where or when I will be getting my check.

I just quit there because they didn't have my November check ready on payday, the 15th. I am going to report them to the better business bureau, the labor board, the Dept. of Education, and as many people as I can! I'm filing unemployment too since I have "good cause" to have quit my job due to lack of payment. If you are in the same predicament, PLEASE file a claim for your wages with the CA Labor Board and go file unemployment! Don't let this company have the last stab! Dissappointed.

I used to work there and it seems nothing has changed. Mr. Carney would be demanding, late on paying ALL his staff, including the directors, used funds for his own personal pleasures, and disregarded the importance of paying his staff on time. You're best off working for another company and save yourself a heachache!
