Hotel booking scam
I made a booking for a hotel in Newcastle (Whitley Bay) in early June 2015 through CentralR.com (2 rooms at £184 in total). To note this is for the Rugby World Cup game on 3rd October. I paid the deposit and received the confirmation as normal. One week ago I contacted the hotel to enquire about staying for another night to only be informed that my booking does not exist, they have not dealt with CentralR.com since January and have been fully booked since March. When I log into the CentralR.com website my booking is still there. I have tried contacting them through email and telephone (just an answering service) but to no avail. As Newcastle is now reaching capacity that night it is costing me £716 for two rooms. There is nothing else available within a 35 mile radius.
Misleading Website
I booked a week's stay in Hotel Bjork, in Reykjavik, Iceland, in January. I used the hotel website, and when payment was taken I was transferred to centralr.com. The total price quoted was €381, broken down to the price of the room per night. When I paid for the room at the hotel reception at the end of the holiday, the price had was €630! This was not down to fluctuation in exchange rates because the price in Kronur was the same. When I complained to Central Reservations, I was refunded €38 - my 10% deposit - as a "goodwill gesture", even though the company admitted that at the time of my booking there was a fault with their currency converter. I am seeking to get a further amount refunded after being fobbed off with no real apology. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY TO BOOK ANY HOTEL - BOOK DIRECT WITH THE HOTEL OR YOU'LL GET A SURPRISE BILL AT THE END OF YOUR STAY!
