I was a customer of CenturyLink long before there was a CenturyLink. What I mean is, I was a customer of Earthlink, which became sprint, which begat Embarq, which begat CentruyLink -- a very long-time IP (about 15 years or so). Anyway, I recently switched to Comcast. For better, or worse, their bundled prices were FAR lower than centurylink. On the phone, CenturyLink's very courtious agent informed me that I would be charged a "$12.00 disconnection Fee"! I would be interested in finding out if such a fee is legal. I have signed no contractural documents which include this asinine fee. I do not think I should be required to pay it. It is only $12, 00, but it is the audacity and appearences of extortion that I rail-against.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.

Number Three-
Same issue here. And we are military and had to move because the government told us. What did the CLink agent say after I told him this fact? "Oh well, it's standard practice, everyone gets charged this."
I think it's generally a terrible practice in the first place, but to charge military families this fee that are disconnecting because we HAVE to move is ridiculous and poor business practice.
Sure, it's "only" $12.00, but we "only" have friends all across the country and you better believe I'll be spreading the word to every single one to avoid Century Link if possible. Why would any member of the military want anything to do with a company that has a blatant disrespect for them and the job they are doing?
Here's one family you can count on never doing business with again, CenturyLink.

CenturyLink charged me $16 for disconnection fee. It’s illegal because they never have to come out to my house and disconnect. Also, it’s not clearly disclosed during activation.
