There policy is to process items that come in to your account the higher amount first for that day.
So here is my kick in the face!
I had 2 items that came in one day that had already posted. my account balance was roughly $120.00 then I had a credit card payment come in and instead of returning the item due to insufficient funds because the debit was for $277, they process it in front of the other two credit card withdrawls because that was the higher amount that came in that day, needless to say it set off a negative balance and then they charged me an NSF for every item after that. I checked my balance and I had plenty of money for my gas and debit for walmart earlier that day. This is how this bank makes it's money. please I am asking everyone that deals with this bank watch your statements because they will nail you.
Instead of processing the items as they come in they process them higher to lower for that day doesn't matter if what's been already posted. Therefore if something unexpected comes in you are going to pay their NSF fees. I have been fighting with them and cannot get anything resolved. I have been a customer with them for 13 years and this is what they do to you. Just plain out "BAD BANKING". I cannot believe they are doing this to me. They knew I didn't have enough to cover the withdrawl they should have returned the item. I have never heard of processing items like that, the way they want, so they can take your money. I am not thru this this bank! I am so pissed!
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
My fiancee and myself closed our checking and savings accounts with Charter One Bank on June 10, 2017. We were closing due to Charter One fees. After a month and a half went by we recieved a notice from Charter One stating we OWE them $259.95 due to a payment made on June 18, 2017. Seems Charter One made a payment to our AT&T account for $150.95. they charged us $39.oo overdraft fee and 2 $35.00 late fees for a total of $259.95. I explained to the representitive that I didn't recieve the first notice, only the second. I then asked the representitve why would CharterOne pay a bill if the account is closed. Her explaination was CharterOne reopened the account. I was fuming by this. I was then told i would have to come back thew next day and speak to another representitive to see about getting the charges removed. I said im not paying for these charges, since it was your bank that reopened my account without my prior knowledge. So I went back the next day (today 7-23, 2017) and the lady won't be in til after 12:30 p.m. . How nice I said I brought in my AT&T statement and showed the lady there that Charter One didn't make july's payment since it was kicked back to me, why didnt they do that it June when the account was closed? She had no answer for that. I explained to the representitive to Please have someone call me at my house on my time and walked out the door. DO NOT BANK AT CHARTER ONE OR SHOULD I SAY COMMERCIAL BANK SINCE THEY WERE BOUGHT OUT LAST YEAR.
Now i just found out that rewards that I turned in on April 19, 2017 never went through charter one never gave me a confirmation number. I turned in 58, 500 points Now since I closed my account they wont reissiue my card nor my points. Nice going charterOne. All I have is the page that printed out with rewards turned in and the gift cards I ordered. I spoke with the representitive and she said since I have a negative balance due to the payment charter One made they can't reissue me a new card nor my credit card points. when i told the representitve about the problem about this she hung up on me. who ever reads this. Beware you have been warned. DO NOT BAK THERE.
I was in the process of buying a home with my girlfriend of 8 years. She received a pension refund of 22, 000. We promptly deposited the funds in my account so we could write a check for the escrow deposit. The bank put a hold on the check and told us the funds would be available in three days since it was a local check and endorsed by both of us. On the third day we wrote 4 checks for bills. On the 4th day we found out the checks were on "hold" and no further information was available. We made no less than 10 phone calls and were told various things like "the money will be available tomorrow", "we're not sure, call back tomorrow", etc. We went to the branch office and after waiting more than 35 minutes we were told they were still "investigating" and would get back to us.
Today, it has been 10 days and they have bounced all our checks and still no answers. They now say they will issue a cashier's check to us in two weeks since the check was not mine. That will be three weeks they have kept my 22, 000. And of course, they will be deducting all the returned check fees.
Don't bank here, please! This has been the most frustrating and aggravating thing I have ever been through. Oh yeah, we lost the house too.
Charter One Bank Stole My Money!
I was charged $1599 in just five weeks in insufficient fund fees from Charter One Bank. In Chicago, Illinois. I contacted Charter One bank regarding these excessive overdraft fees. I spoke to, Chris Graszer, regional assistant branch manager. I asked Mr. Graszer was there any way they could reverse about $700 for two weeks so my rent check could go through the bank and Charter One could put the fees back on my account in two weeks when I get paid again. He said no, and that the only solution he had for me was to close the account. I told Mr. Graszer I was a long time customer for almost 20 years. I have had frequent problems with insufficient charges of the past couple of years. In the past five weeks I have Charter One took $1599 in insufficient fund fees out of my account. I am a single mom who brings home about $1600 a month the bank fees ate two of my last paychecks. I had no money for rent, gas, food etc. I borrowed money from family members, my retirement account at work and any money I had went into the account but it ate my money. To survive I wrote checks for food and gas that of course, bounced but I did not have choice in order to feed my child and get to work. I contacted Charter One on September 10, 2017 and spoke with a Chris Graszer and explained my dire situation. He told me he would see what he could do for my and call back. He never called back even after I left three voice mails. I called and called until he picked up on September 12, 2017 and he was very rude and said my rent check will just have to bounce and that it is my fault you are spending more money than you earn. He told me I should close the account because I could not manage the account, so close it. I explained the bank makes money from poor people like me off the fees they charge and that you have been for years. He said he was not going to anything to help me. He said I had used my debit card twice in two weeks. I explained when I used the card my account was positive and I been putting all my money in Charter One so, I had to use the card to buy food to live and I must have the medical supplies for my sick daughter, the total charge was about $75 it this is only because I was desperate. He said we are not reversing the fees ever for me and told me to close the account. I explained my rent check was going to bounce and he said that was not his problem and told me to come up with another solution.
I only was asking Mr. Graszer to remove the fees for two weeks until my next paycheck so; I could feed my family, pay my rent and get to work. The fee reversal would have only been temporary the bank would not have lost any money. They have made thousand of dollars off me in the past two years in overdraft fees; I do not understand why they would not want me to keep the account to make more money off me, not to mention help one of their loyal customers I admit I probably don’t make enough money to pay my bills and they charged me fees even when my account was positive and let charges go through even if there was not enough money to pay the charge. The account got out of hand because a retailer was to defer my billing date until November but they did not and my account just got out of hand. I am not a bad person just a poor person.
Charter One Not Your Typical Bank.
I checked my charter one account as normal...today...october 15th. I found that all debits/withdrawls from atm card were being doubled for the last week. This was not on there the previous day. When i called the representative(very rude) said they were having computer problems and she had 200 people on hold and thats all she could tell me...besides that it would be fixed that day. 6pm I call because it hasn't been fixed and they tell me tomorrow...all my funds are locked up. I ask for a manager and get Kendon...I explain my distress and he says there is nothing he can do and it will be fixed the next day...i told him when i make a mistake, you rake me with fees...but when the bank holds all my funds hostage because of their mistake...i get a it will be fixed tomorrow. I said at least refund my last fees...he laughed and told me it doesn't work that way... stay away from charter one...poor customer service... they rake you with fees...and than laugh
J.WEIER
My account too is on hold. I went to withdrawl funds this morning and to my shock, I am negative. I then investigate my account and notice that all my transactions have been doubled.
I called and talked to a customer service rep(Victoria), and she told me that they are aware and are dealing with the issue and want to have it resolved by end of business today(10/15/08). Here it is nearly 8pm, and I still have no money. The issue has NOT been resolved.
Now, I was assured that all fees incrued during this period would be credited back. But what an inconvenience that I have no access to any of my money. This is the first issue I have had with this bank, but what an issue it is. All my funds frozen...there has got to be a better way.
I was also double charged about $900. I was also told that it would be fixed today. I just reviewed my account and found that they now have charged me the overdraft fees.
Same thing. I have banked with them for over 15 years and today My account is $600.00 in the negative because of several things coming out twice. Customer service was not great and they even hung up on my husband when he tried to explain to them that he needed gas and couldn't use his debit card. 10:30 PM and still not fixed. I could end up with $400.00 in overdraft fees which I'll probably have to be on the phone forever trying to have it fixed. I truly understand that things happen that are beyond control sometimes, but leaving people without access to funds that they actually have is bad buisness to say the least. We certainly will be looking into other banks or keep it all under the mattress:)
Just thought I would drop a quick note and let everyone know that I have filed a complaint with the federal reserve bank. They will investigate any bank related complaints that you have. I also sent emails to news channel 3, 5, and 19 asking them to report the problem on the local news and maybe they can investigate also. It would really help if all of these sources could receive other complaints also. I'm not sure what will come of these complaints but I'm not going to sit around and do nothing.
Thank Goodness Im not in the Negative!@
but I did get double billed
I cannot beleive they have frozen customers accounts!
Is your money truely safe in banks?
Just another thing to worry about in this world today.
The world was a much better place when people were running it not computers!
Geez, wonder what they would have done if they double processed Deposits?
perhaps Charterone needed some quick cash.
I think everyone should have a small deposit of some sort given out by charterone for the BIG inconvenience.
This is a huge problem for anyone on a limited budget, as a college student i dont have extra cash laying around and not being able to use my account because of their error is horrible. The customer service is terrible, i was told on the morning of the 15th that it would be resolved by the end of the day. I check my balance this morning (16th) and the double posting had been removed, but a insufficient funds fee has been added! Called customer service again and i had the same scripted response read back to me as the day before... "it will be resolved by the end of the day"
Looks Like its time to find a new bank
I went through the same thing w/this bank in Indiana... I went into the store and when I asked what the bank could do the manager told me to get out of the store and never to come back in. I asked for the teller to contact the main number in which they refused. I contacted Kendon (supposed supervisor) to discuss the issue. Very rude to say the least and no help. They told me I was not allowed to close the account because it caused it to be in the negative. Now I owe these fees plus more because then the bank charged a $35.oo fee on top of it due to the account being negative-when it was THEIR error in the first place. Then when I received the late fees-it starts off $25 for the first one then up to $39 for the rest..come on...I never should have had the first one and then the rep said that well $39 is only a couple more dollars---couple more like $14 difference-according to the math I learned in school. Does anyone have any ideas on what to do?
I bank with AmTrust, and I wrote my landlord a check for 250.00, when he went to his bank and deposited it into his account they accidently posted it for 252.00 ($2 more than what I wrote it out for). It cleared, another check I wrote cleared then my check for Time Warner Cable bounced by .22 cents. I was charged a fee by my bank, and when I brought this to their attention, they refunded me the fee of $35 they had charged me. After a couple days the two dollar difference was back in my account. Then a $25 charge was taken out by Time Warner for their check bouncing. Time Warners check would not have bounced if Charter One had not made the mistake in the first place. Charter one is refusing to pay the fee. They told me it is my banks responsibility, and if I was a customer they would take care of it. It is not my fault, it is not my banks fault, it is Charter Ones fault. They will not pay that fee. Because a teller does not know how to use a key pad, and took 2 dollars more from my account I have to pay someone else $25. They told me it wasn't their problem. They are in hurry to collect a fee from someone if they do bounce (account holders), but when they make a mistake and it costs me money, they are refusing to make good of it. This is not fair. It is beyond the money, it is now a issue about principle and good business.
Reviewed my bank statements for Charter One: My atm transactions were double charged five different times between the months of September of 08' thru December of 08. I am filing a claim with the bank and I will then be closing my account. I will also be making copies of my bank statements and passing them off to my lawyer; along with a copy of this thread from complaintsboard.com, regarding all of the others who have been experiencing problems with Charter One. I'm sure that my laywer would be very interested in Charter One's double charging activities. Maybe we can make sure this doesn't happen again. In the mean time, I recommend staying away from Charter One; especially in Ohio.
2 problems. 1st Charter one is a horrible and very dishonest bank so if you don't make that much and don't keep track of what you are spending thats not the place you want to be and 2nd you kept spending on top of that. You should have taken the advice of the manager and closed the account after the first set of fees and put a stop payment on your rent check, opened up another bank account somewhere else that is alot more honest as far as fees go (because charter ones way of banking is made for the very purpose of generating fees, You get charged twice for every check card transaction you do. (they hold the amount when you do the transaction initially and then charge it when it is authorized so your bank balance will show a positive amount but since it is theoritically in the negative you get feed both times whether the account ever actually goes negative or not.) . In this case, they really aren't the ones to blame.
Don't bank at Charter One-They held my deposit also!
I deposited a check from the State of Ohio and the teller told me it would be a 3 day hold. On the 3rd day I checked online and it showed all of the funds were available. Logically, I payed several thousand dollars worth of bills. Later that evening I logged in to see if any thing had processed and my available balance was less than 10% of the amount of my deposit. I was then told the deposit would be held another 8 days and there was nothing that could be done about it at this time. I filed a complaint with the Federal Reserve Bank and I am closing my account! Now all of my payements are going to bounce and my credit limits are in jeopardy. I am telling everyone I know so that they will not get burned like I just did!
Tellers at Charter One Bank do not key in or clear your check for the amount. This is done at a back office department. So before you accuse a teller who is probably the lowest paid and under appreciated person working at the bank, you should get your facts straight.
!BEWARE!
Charter One Bank is also Citizens Bank. They ripped me off in April 2017. I had direct deposit with them.
My disability check was deposited every month on the 1st. Whenever the 1st fall on a Saturday, Sunday
or Holiday you'd receive your check a day or two a head of time. Looking at my calender wrong. Thinking that the 1st was on a Saturday. I accidently set up several of my bills to go out that Friday the 31st a day a head of time using (Charter's Bill Pay). When I realized what I had done it was to late. They had already overdraft me $350.00 the very next day on the 1st. Trying to explain to them what I had mistakingly did. Did me no good. Eventho they had proof that every month I paid my bills from that monthly check. Just one day, one lousy day my bills went out a head of time by accident and they would'nt refund the $350.00 overdraft fee. They eventually refunded two $39.00 overdrafts. But still I was out of $272.00. I closed my account today. Yesterday "09/01/09" they charged me $39.00 for $1.00 overdraft. Not knowing that Dish Network was going to charge my credit card $1.00 to upgrade on 08/31/09. My check was deposited on 09/01/09. My stomach angers everytime that I think about how Charter and Citizens do there customers. I drawed everything out yesterday except for $1.00. I wonder what kind of crap are they going to pull on me for closing my account. These two banks are
! RIP OFFS" ! Charter One and Citizens ! RIP OFFS !
! YOU DON'T ! ! WANT TO GO THERE !
Charter one is the most fraudulent bank I have ever come across. They charged me $265.00 in ovredraft fees for my account going into the negative by $13.52. They actually charge for prnding transactions. I am a single mother with a small child and cannot afford christmas presents this year because of it. they refused to adjust any fees. when I came to close out my account they did not pdo anything to try to keep my business. There are 4-5 different banks within a mile of my branch. The way thuey charge they act as if they are the only bank in Chicago. MY ADVISE, DO NOT PUT YOUR MONEY IN CHARTER ONE BANK BECAUSE SOONER RATHER THAN LATER YOU WILL BE HIT WITH MULTIPLE OVERDRAFT FEES. AND YOU WILL BE CHARGED OVERDRAFT FEES FOR ITEMS THEY HAVENOT PAID YET.
IF YOU DO HAVE YOUR MONEY IN CHARTER ONE GOOD LUCK
Charter One Bank somehow chrged me a huge amount of fees (similar ro many other complaints about this issue) Not able to pay the fees (and not believing I should pay the 'bogus' fees) they withheld the money from my paycheck. I wrote checks assuming my pay check was there to cover the amounts. This led to all sorts of problems in paying other bills. And it led to more bank fees. I deposited cash on a Friday morning. this amount was not in my account the following Monday, so there were more overdrawn fees, of varying amounts. The fees snowballed into another large amount. I had my pay check automatic deposit go to another bank. Charter One took the money (over $1, 400 )from my checking account at the other bank. How is that possible? hOW IS THAT LEGAL?
I made a mistake on my checking account and was over drawn by 2.82 cents. They charged me 25.00 then charged me 35.00 becuase I didn't take care of the matter fast enough for them. I also bank with a credit union and they would never charge these outragous fees! This bank has got to be the worst around. If you notice when you go into any of these branches, NO ONE is in the lobby! I guess a lot of people have changed banks too!
Never bank with this bank...go with a credit union, you will be better off!
Charter one is constantly applying overdraft fees to our account when we haven't gone overdrawn. In the last two days we've encountered $312 worth of fees. I'm so outraged that they keep taking our money like this. Their online statements are never clear about what is available. We have put cash into this account and tried to make a purchase two days later and the money has been "held" until we make some purchases and for each purchase they charge is $37. I'm not adverse to overdraft fees if I know exactly what they apply to and are clear. But these people are charging us through the nose at the end of every month when we are trying to do our best to stay afloat. They are not willing to budge on any of these unjustified fee's and if you look at our statment, there are two fee's for $156 each in the last two days and I don't even know what these apply to because we weren't overdrawn until they applied those fees. I'm so horrified. Can these people legally rip off innocent people like this? I've tried to copy our statement below to show that we weren't overdrawn until they took the fees. I'm not sure if it's clear because it's all squashed up in this format. But we didn't go overdrawn until they took our money. Surely with all the complaints against them, there could be a case made to get our money back. They are robbing their customers. We admit that we are struggling anyway in these economic times and these people are truly messing us up. Particularly when we have a baby on the way. I've emailed them with no response. My husband spoke to three different people on the phone yesterday and they have no power to help him. We've been told that one of the managers will call him back, but we are not holing our breath. I've never encountered such a lack of professionalism. I suck it up and incur the fee's when they are justified, but this is not justified.
I would add to this that their fees caused us to to overdrawn, so now they've charged a further $117 for that! They have taken $429 from us in the space of four days. They really are taking almost every penny we have. I can hardly stand how outraged I am by these thieving ###!
Oh and it's actually $39 per transaction, not $37, that was my mistake. Charter One Bank deserves a special place in hell!
Charter One is horrible. We will be closing our account with these thieves as soon as we can.
This bank has done the last wrong by me. I have put up with their crap for far too long. I'[ve read all the other complaints on this board about them, and the way they charge their fees. It's all true. It stinks! It is beyond comprehension that a place can get away with this. THEY ARE ROBBING US BLIND PEOPLE! HERE IS YOUR CHANCE TO GET OUT! It's not only this "bank". It's all of them. Put your money in a fire proof safe in your house, under your mattress, inside your wall...tape it inside your toilet, or to your freezer door...hell, put it in a shoebox and bury it in the backyard. Any of these options would be better than padding their pockets. Americans have become FAR TOO reliant on banking institutions, and the supposed security they offer. We need to go back to the way our forefathers saved money. Why keep making the rich, richer? Oh come on, they sleep like babies while we toss and turn in worry and frustration. Congress is making laws to protect us...government is trying to help...it's all a load of B.S. This is only the start, but people, WAKE UP AND SMELL THE STENCH! I would much rather pay Currency Exchange $$ to cash my measly check, than fork over $156 to this damn bank for fees they are charging that don't add up, aren't fair, don't make any sense and just plain infuriate me. THe stupid lady behind the stupid desk with the stupid name plate, looking at me like I'm an idiot and can't keep a check register...oh...I would like to see my paint pellets decorating her stupid face. It feels good to vent, but this needs to stop. There needs to be a class action law suit brought against this joint, and FAST. Any lawyers interested in a massive suit?
I agree with tired_of_Stupid. This is like 5th grade math here. keep track of your spending and the problem goes away. Wow! What a Noble idea. People always like to blame someone else for there mistakes.
Charter one bank officer failed to tell me that its over draft protection for checking acount cost 29.99 a year with a high interest rate, and the interest rate was charged at a daily high rate. Also the bank charged me service charges totaling at least $40.00( in a period of 3 days) for its rewards debit card which I used infrequently. The bank charged me these fees after I complained to the comptroller of the currency about it non disclosure of fees when I applied for a checking account. The bank officer is the one that pushed these products on me, all I wanted was a checking account, as I do not work. I am a part time student and I am disabled on a low fixed entitlement. The bank on state and washington is a predator of the poor.
I wish I would have read this page before doing business with Charter One. I deposited my paycheck on Saturday @ 11:00 a.m. and they didn't record my deposit unitl Tuesday. But, I had payments setup in their on-line "convenient" banking to be paid on Monday. I was told that by depositing my check on Sat. the funds would be available on Monday. WRONG! They were on Tuesday as well as $200.00 in fees! When I talked to Nikita at the Branch she didn't even understand the details of my acct. When I asked to talk to a branch manager, I was informed that Gail was busy. So, I closed the acct and I am hoping the next bank doesn't steal from their customers like Charter One. DO NOT BANK @ CHARTER ONE.
I had been with charter one bank for a very long time however the customer service is horrible and recently my experience with this bank is just beyond words. I had been banking had a checking and savings and I forgot to transfer money from my savings to checking and i was charged so many fees. I was unable to login thru the online system because it was down and having to work till late getting home and beyond tired, so it took me a while to get online to check out what was going on, so i get online and every transaction every day i was given a few of 39dollars!
I called charter one bank once found out and they did nothing because it was not a bank error, no they just charge you hundreds of dollars in fees cause your account to go even more in the negative and charge you more and more. To me that does not make sense, I am so upset with charter one bank that I hope everyone is aware and does not bank thru them!
I've been with Charter One in Canton, OH for 10 years. The only reason I didn't leave sooner is the inconvenience of changing my direct deposit. I've been nickled and dimed to death, with NO EMPATHY from their so-called "customer-service". The final draw was when I was charged a $37 overdraft fee on a online auto w/d-payment set up for the 1st; it was posted one day early, leaving my account $21 short (my pay-day fell the next day). This particular auto payment was set up for years and never had problems. When I contacted customer service, the rude little comment from some little jerk with no life experience was "you'll have to call online banking. I would tell you no" [when I asked to have the fee credited]. The online banking guy was no better. They insisted it wasn't their mistake. THEY ARE THE ONES WHO SENT THE PAYMENT AND THEN CASHED THE STUPID CHECK ONE DAY EARLY! Am I wrong? I was then lectured for 15 minutes by the supervisor that I have to have the funds in the account when the payment is set up. I set up the payments for auto w/d for convenience...based on my pay-days every other week (and the money is always in on that day to cover all the bills!)! If you ask me, they just want to take your money however they can. I, like many people, live paycheck to paycheck despite having a decent salary and don't appreciate their stupid fine print and red tape. DO NOT GO TO CHAPTER ONE and tell all of your friends/family! What happened to the good old days where the customer was respected and treated as though their business mattered?. Funny how all these banks want bail-out but they don't want to help out their loyal customers in turn. I hope they all burn in Hell someday!
I used to work at Charter One and I believe everything that you said at the beginning happened. I won't get into who is at fault for what on that end. I will say that the cash you put in on Monday being on hold was probably because Charter One put your whole account on hold not that they held the cash from your account. As far as Charter One getting money from another bank that's not possible. I say this as a former manager there at the time you banked there. I would deal with accounts in situations like yours and I worked with the department that handles getting accounts settled. It's hard to get them to settle an account when both accounts are at Charter One so getting money from a different bank is unheard of. Also I've had customers offer to have our collections department debit accounts at other banks and we weren't allowed to do that. I'm thinking that you either opened an account with a bank affiliated by Charter One or you attempted to change your direct deposit and didn't get it done in time.
This bank built on trapping Customers into fees instead of Customer Service. Tremendous staff of lawyers specializing in fine print. IT department that can't figure out how to move money between banks in less than a week without a wire transfer ($20) enabling ... more fees. While all the time (30+ years) managing to use my money without paying a dime of interest. Sad little company, following the business ethics traditionaly expected from con men
I closed my CharterOne Bank account 8 months ago because they have overdraft fees that I don't agree with. Even with the new laws they still overdraft my closed account
my life insurance summit it's yearly withdraw and the bank accepted without asking or nothing it paid and of course get his money of the overdraft and the daily fee
of $6, 99 per day of account overdraft
How they can do that and not be put in jail
This bank started charging for my account with out notifying me and over drew my account. I closed the account 3 times and after the 3rd time I got it in writing that it was closed. Now I'm getting threatening mail from them saying my account is over drawn again. They keep charging me and sending me a bill on a closed account. For some reason they don't understand what a closed account is.
Where the hell is the Government. They gave our tax money to those jerks to bail them out and don't pay any attention how they run there business. No wonder they went broke. They can't even keep track of what accounts are open and what ones are closed.
Anyone that does business with them is crazy.

I made a check deposit on 6/20 in the amount of $200 @ the local branch. I was told by the teller because the check is from a local bank the funds will post today 6/20. I checked my account on 6/22 and a $259 NSF fee was charged to me for several items. I called customer and the rep was very rude she thought it was funny. I requested a supervisor call back. I was informed by the rep I would get a call within 24 hrs. Needless to say I did not get that call. I was informed by another rep today that the case was closed out. The case was closed and I never received a call, poor customer. I asked the rep for a mailing address to write a complaint and I was told Charter One does not have a corporate complaint mailing address she can only issue the complaint via computer. Unacceptable!
I had used my card, as they said I should. I made three transactions two days prior to going to the bank and pulling out forty dollars, which I was told I had. They said my balance was over five dollars after pulling out the forty. They then charged me for the transactions I had made two days prior. They claim that it was not under the pending transactions, which I know that they were, as I call my card frequently. They continue to tell me that I must be mistaken and that it must have been four days prior because otherwise it would have shown up. I told them that I am not mistaken and they refuse to believe me. They then decided to hang up on me. The woman, I believe she said her name was Devon, said "mhm, okay, do you have anymore question, all right then bye bye", very quickly, and proceeded to hang up on me. This is highly unprofessional and I will never bank with these people again. Charter One should be shut down, as I have read several reviews since, stating similar complaints.
About a year ago I started a Circle Gold Checking account. The account supposedly requires a $20, 000 min balance, if not a $20 service fee would be assessed. I started this account when there was a promotion. My company at the time had Charter One and a representative wanted to give the employees the same account as the company without the fees or minimum balance requirements. I agreed and signed up as they would refund up to $20 of atm fees per month. Fast forward a year to today, they removed the "wavier" that allowed me to use the account for free and charged me $20 a month for the last 3 months. No notice was sent. When I called they stated that a notice was sent to my e-mail. The same notice that is sent every month asking you to check you statememnt, nothing in the notice about the fees or waviers. There is no other checking account that offers refunds of the atm fees and i'm not going to put $20, 000 in the account. Guess I won't ever bank with you again. Good luck in your lawsuit with the government. You know which side I will be rooting for.
I totally agree. Charter Ones banking is NOT dependable. They are not up to date w/ all your transactions and watch out, they may move around your transactions ensuring that they can charge you the most insufficient fund fees that they can! They will not reimburse any fees even if the account did show the transactions as clearing. I checked my account one day and it was fine when I checked it the next day, I had all this insufficient activity they said occurred the previous day (of which when I checked it was fine and some of what they said was insufficient was showing a cleared) Kind of funny how the order of transactions clearing can just be moved around. DO NOT BANK AT CHARTER ONE!
