There policy is to process items that come in to your account the higher amount first for that day.

So here is my kick in the face!

I had 2 items that came in one day that had already posted. my account balance was roughly $120.00 then I had a credit card payment come in and instead of returning the item due to insufficient funds because the debit was for $277, they process it in front of the other two credit card withdrawls because that was the higher amount that came in that day, needless to say it set off a negative balance and then they charged me an NSF for every item after that. I checked my balance and I had plenty of money for my gas and debit for walmart earlier that day. This is how this bank makes it's money. please I am asking everyone that deals with this bank watch your statements because they will nail you.

Instead of processing the items as they come in they process them higher to lower for that day doesn't matter if what's been already posted. Therefore if something unexpected comes in you are going to pay their NSF fees. I have been fighting with them and cannot get anything resolved. I have been a customer with them for 13 years and this is what they do to you. Just plain out "BAD BANKING". I cannot believe they are doing this to me. They knew I didn't have enough to cover the withdrawl they should have returned the item. I have never heard of processing items like that, the way they want, so they can take your money. I am not thru this this bank! I am so pissed!

Charter One is the new face for corporate greed! I was in a MI branch today and listened to the branch manager tell me how all districts are rated. They receive a negative rating anytime they reverse a bank fee even if they agree with you. Mr. Banker, have yourself a Merry Little Christmas with other peoples money

Thanks to everyone who has posted comments about Charter One. I opened an account a short time ago so that I could cash my company checks, drawn on this bank, and It's been nothing but problems since -- outrageous, undisclosed fees, limited access to deposited funds, and REALLY lousy customer service. In Chicago, there are only 3 branches in the downtown business area? Banker can't tell me where other ATM locations are? and my ATM card would not let me into the kiosk! As stated by others, lobbies are always EMPTY -- no customers? Wonder why? I do not like their basic set up, there are no "windows" where you can conduct your business in privacy, and the ATM has a giant window, facing the side view while you're at the ATM, so either way, anyone on the street can see your exact transaction, i.e. counting your money in the bank or at the ATM.

About a week after I opened my account, I called customer service
number and said I haven't received my pin number. Response: what would you like me to do about it? (Clue #1) I tried to make a withdrawal and was told the bank had insufficient cash on hand to meet the withdrawal (It was not a really sizable amount & my funds had long since cleared -- had to get the mgr. and ask how does a downtown bank have insufficient cash to meet a withdrawal -- and ended up getting my cash). Clue #2

After more issues today, I asked the personal banker, what is it with this bank? Not interested in people's deposits? He said, "is there anything else I can do for you? Have a nice day." Did not give a damn about resolving the issue, did not even know bank's policies. And again, I was the only person in the bank. All of the banker's desks were unoccupied except his. (Clue #3)

While other banks offer an incentive to open accounlt, this bank offered nothing. That should have been the first, the gut instinct, clue. I told the banker today I was planning on closing my account, he shrugged -- did not give a damn. Final clue! I guess he likes sitting around doing nothing all day, since they have no customers!

Saying goodbye to Charter One!

I went to my Charter One Bank on April 18, 2017 to check on my bank account information. I arrived at the bank at 3:15 pm and spoke with Tonya J. and asked her to run three day tansaction history on my account. She refused to run the transaction history and stated they were not allowed to run transaction histories. I asked why and she rudely stated that she wasn't allowed to give that information out.

I have just experienced the same thing. I closed my Charter One checking account on April 6. On April 26, Charter One paid a debit that posted to my account (an error with my credit union that processes my car payment). So, not only did this "re-open", my closed account, Charter One paid it, then charged me a $37 NSF fee. I have spoken to many customer service reps and not one of them could tell me exactly what the policy is. One said it takes 7 days to close. Another said 30 days. I just spoke with another rep who said it takes up to 60 days for an account to close. What I don't understand is, why the hell should you even bother offically closing an account, if Charter One is just going to go ahead and make payments on your behalf, out of an account I thought I had closed? Now they are refusing to reverse the fees I've incurred. I said, good luck trying to get paid on those fees. If thier policy is to just honor payments on a closed account that doesn't have any money, why doesn't Charter One just take payment for the fees from the closed account? Sounds like the right solution to me. My bottom line...it is now my mission to deter ANYONE I can talk to, to NEVER, EVER bank with Charter One. I was very happy with this bank for many years, until they instituted such idiotic, STUPID policies. As if the banks don't have enough money, now they are assessing fees on closed accounts. BOYCOTT CHARTER ONE BANK.
