Contacted DotEasy for web hosting services in early January. Signed up for hosting services at $10.00 per month. After receiving information from others who had bad experiences with this company, I cancelled my account within days without every activating web hosting. Later found out they had debited my credit card for a full year of service. Recontacted them numerous times. No telephone customer service, everything handled thru email. They eventually advised no refund was possible as I didn't cancel within the 14 day cancellation period which was untrue. After providing them numerous times with timely cancellation emails, they proceeded to jerk my chain with continuous emails requesting actual photo copies of my credit card, (front and back), filling out multiple page refund forms, advising accounting would have to contact me regarding the unused portion of my account. The emails they sent me were insane and generally non-responsive for example asking me if I wanted to activate my account when I had cancelled and asking for refund. Initially refused to state the amount of any potential refund but insisted I agree to a refund without knowing the refund amount. Ultimately advised they would issue a partial refund but required a $15.00 refund fee. their own agreement advises customer can cancellation at any time without penalty or fee. They advised that didn't apply to refunds. Eventually around 7 weeks received refund to credit card but still had to pay the $15.00. Refund received after threats of legal and regulatory agency action. Emails were generally rude and belligerent. Absolutely a NIGHTMARE experience.

I have been trying to get Doteasy to release my domain to my new registrar since the 22nd February when I entered the correct authorization code (it is now the 11th March). I would advise anyone who is with them to allow at least two months to avoid any transfer problems. My business website and e-mails are now down and I have had to contact them numerous times. I have not been able to activate the DNS transfer either. They are now stating it may be another five days and as they are not open over the weekend, this translates in reality to seven days! I transferred another domain name at the same time from another provider and the process took four days and was completely painless.

I cannot urge people strongly enough to keep away from Doteasy. I have also noticed that KingKoopa is very active on noticeboards trying to dispel the negative comments by actual users of Doteasy. He or she seems to work either for Doteasy or its PR company, both need all the help they can get. STAY AWAY otherwise you'll end up like me Googling every web review/ discussion group to make sure no-one else makes the same mistake and goes through what I'm going through now.

You signed up for the Unlimited web hosting plan. As advertised, the plan is US $9.95/month billed on a pre-paid 12 month term. If you go through the signup process on their site, you can see they have a payment confirmation page that shows your order total before you submit the order even.

Basically as soon as you submit your order they will try to process the charges. This is a positive thing for customers wishing to have their accounts set up as quickly as possible. Maybe not so good for customers that submitted their orders without thinking or reading the terms of the service carefully beforehand.

Doteasy does have telephone service, their number is on their contact us page plain as day.

Doteasy's hosting services are pre-paid and nowhere does Doteasy advertise or offer any kind of refund guarantee. Thus, refunds are only ever issued in exceptional circumstances on a case-by-case basis and a refund processing fee does apply, and that can only be done within 14 days of your signup date.

Yes, Doteasy does say that accounts can be canceled at any time with no fee or penalty. As I'm sure you are now aware, Doteasy was willing to hold true to this statement - they could have closed your account and provided no refund to you.

After all was said and done, Doteasy provided you a refund for the services you asked for even past their 14 day exception period even though they clearly had no obligation to do so. They went above and beyond what was required of them in regards to this situation.

You are so lucky you got out early, what a nightmare!
They got me to sign up for the Spam filter because all of a sudden I was getting spam about 50 a day which was strange because I couldn't recieve my regular emails from my customers through my site, I had to stop using my website email as it was never reliable!
I changed to a new host and no need of any spam filter because I may only get 1 to 2 a month!
If your wanting a good experience with webhosting look anywhere but Doteasy for that!
They do have google alerts for Doteasy so don't listen to those positive reviews they aren't true! They must think people are stupid, seriously, if your having a good experience with a hosting company why would you be on a complaints board commenting?!
LOL

Trying to move domain from doteasy right now and can't find phone number anywhere on the web. The Whois.net listed phone number is a fax.

I have so far had a really good experience with them with free web hosting but for some reason my account has been locked just now. Will keep this board posted and if anyone can help me would be great.

Had a pretty prompt response from their service email. Although have yet to succeed in transferring site.

I think they have recovered from their attack and are back onto it. I am referring to the doteasy.com.au and not the US version.

Generally my comments are that they are pretty good to work with at this stage. Check out www.hpinot.com to see if I am finally successfull at transferring the site.

I have three sites with Doteasy. There has always been confusion with them, but only with the one domain has it been a nightmare. My biggest complaint with Doteasy is the fact that you can write them requesting that a service be ended. (For instance, you have the option of renewing but only with all of the existing features- webhosting and spam services. but you do not have the option of renewing just the web hosting.) As a result, you have to specifically write asking for a feature to be dropped. But because I went to the renewal site (at that point you did not have to click on agreement) they already charged my credit card for the spam. They informed me that they could not credit my credit card because they do not give refunds but that they would credit my account. It is now renewal time again, despite the fact that I was supposedly charged for a year. When directed to the renewal page, I discovered that my account had not been credited nor the spam service canceled. When I challenged this, Doteasy went back to one of its standard tricks- asking you to verify what you already had placed in writing to do in the first place. They said I did not verify that I wanted the spam services canceled, even though in my original email I stated that I did want it canceled since I did not use the email aspect.

As I stated, I have had minor problems with the other sites, but this one has been a nightmare. However, I will be moving the other two as well. It is a matter of time before the same thing happens.

Oh by the way, my website is paid for until May 1, 2009. I went to it this weekend and found it shut down already. They have definitely broke their contract with me

I have just had my admin email account with Doteasy deactivated for 'spamming'. I sent six emails on the day in question! So far I have called and emailed and just recieved an email saying 'your account was deactivated for spamming' etc and thring to charge me US$25 to have it reinstated?! They have not produced any evidence of the supposed spamming, they just expect me to pay up to get the service back.

I have been with Doteasy since 2001. First problem but it's a doozey! The don't answer their phone so I leave a message then get an email back saying they can't call due to 'timezone issues' ... LOL I JUST CALLED YOU from New Zealand NO PROBLEM MF****ERS!

F**k them. Won't be renewing this account.

I cancelled my account months ago and then just got a cc. statement with their bill for $33! Where did $33 come from and how do I stop the madness? I haven't been able to get a hold of anyone, email or phone.

Why not to use Doteasy, a FAQ from a guy who used to love them and now feels they have lost all goodwill. Keep in mind that Doteasy gained popularity as one of the first companies in Canada to offer "Free Hosting" keep reading to see how this has degraded into what Doteasy is today. I'm an expert on Doteasy, and once had 50 domains with them, I've nearly migrated all of them away (2 to go).

It's October 31st, 2009 and as of today these items are still serious problems with the Doteasy service.

Fees:
1. Charge for domain locking (this is free with any registrar and is provided free to registrars)
2. They offer a free spam filter... then start charging if you don't cancel
3. **SEE ATTACHED PICTURE**: Their USD to CDN exchange rate is at a 30% premium (this should be illegal 1USD = 1.35CAD). Yes, they take this difference.

Useability:
1. Security: Password changes take 2-4 hours. I believe they are doing them manually when you submit a change.
2. Security: Passwords cannot contain special characters
3. Multiple domains: There is no bulk domain management (thinking about changing your company address for whois, yes for 10 domains it will take you about 1 hour)
4. Email Annoyance: get ready to receive one promotional email per domain (i.e. 50 domains, 50 emails one after the other they usually send them out every 3 weeks)
5. Advanced functions: forget about cronjobs or other advanced command line options, they don't exist.

Technical Support:
1. Phone: before they put the number on the site you could whois their number, call and get someone every time. Now the wait time is about 10 minutes.
2. Ticket: they are usually good with keeping to their 24 hour response time. This is above industry standard.
3. Chat: this feature is sporadic (it's not always online), my one chat experience took longer than a phone call as I think the operator was on multiple chats.

The good things about Doteasy...
They were GREAT 5 years ago, the only good thing right now is they are pretty good for very basic users that need simple functionality.

What doteasy should do...
Throw out your custom code and give users standard cpanel interface.

What YOU should do right now...
Get an account at Hostgator. You will thank me. Don't believe me, go to hostgator.com and click on "chat" or call them. Pretend you're an existing customer and test their service.

thanks rao rena, I've sent a complaint. If enough of us do this, perhaps they'll lose their domain license.

This company is terrible.
You gotta love their "Damage Control Team" adding bogus posts to this (and many more) sites claiming how great they are.

Spend 5 minutes on Google and search for >hosting reviews and ratings < read what the reputable companies have to say and take their advice.
Those of US (including myself) who are here [censor]ing probably had to learn the hard way from this turd of a company.
PLEASE >>> Blogs & Such are great and all...
If you really want your voice to be heard let the consumer organizations know what's going on!

I've spent the last five days trying to get my domain transferred to another registrar, and Doteasy is playing games with this process. I suggest anyone who has domain transfer issues with Doteasy (IN2NET NETWORK, INC.) first file an ICANN complaint. Search for "ICANN complaint" online to find the simple forms. Second, file a Better Business Bureau complaint with BBB of Mainland B.C. -- again, just search for "BBB mainlaind BC" to find the simple forms. Doteasy (In2Net Network, Inc) is at 210-3602 Gilmore Way, Burnaby, BC V5G 4W9, Canada [protected]. Don't back down and don't allow them to scam you.

DOTCON. NEVER use Doteasy. I live in Ireland, and they are based in western Canada. I used to do website design and at one stage had about 30 domains hosted with Doteasy. At the early stages they were good. After a few years however, I noticed that whenever I lapsed a website they started to charge my credit card for totally bogus services for LAPSED websites (the usual charges that everybody complains about, such as spam filters, domain locking etc) These websites were not even on the web!. Negotiations are impossible as they only offer in house "credits" and will not properly explain how they charge and will avoid giving direct answers. They told me that they will not make the name of their managing director public, so I cannot write to their manager?! They get away with this because they are based in Western Canada and know that they are almost untouchable (by myself and many others). I am starting a campaign online shortly to expose their cheap scam which must have net themselves millions.

Asked about domains before I bought them by phone and even by email and was never told the information I asked apparently. Now DOTEASY is trying to charge me an extra $15 per domain to transfer out when I have asked about all this well over a month ago and was put off apparently because all this is hidden in their terms.
