I have worked for dunkin donuts for about 4 years. When I was hired I started at $9.00 an hour plus tips. I am a single mother of two and every cent helps. My tips help pay for my bills every month. Well, as of february 1 we are no longer recieving tips. They have no reasoning as to why they are taking them from us. What we do know is that they are donating them to charity."yeah right". I dont know what to do. Its not right! There has to be something that can be done about this. They treat us like crap as it is and now this. I hope someone can help me figure this out! Is there a law about this?

It sounds as if the management is pocking the tips, get a hold of the Attorney Generals Office or the EEO in your area and make a unanimous report.

What if like they put the tip jar out so customers thinking they are tipping employees and management takes the tip out of the cups for himself or for"drawer shortage" like he says we still have the tip cup out for people to tip us it just that it does not go to us

Well it sounds like you started out really good I work in Maine at dunkin Donuts and have worked for the company off and on sence 1997-now 2009 and still make 7.75 an hour and have two kids at home. I do my job great and we get no tips either. It really is to bad for me after all these years and still not making much. I also think it depends on who the owner of the store is, and if they want to deal with state on our tips. It's cheap, because alot of people want to leave tips, And each shift would devide them. two tip cups one at Drive thru one on front. and divide at end of shifts and before beginning of shifts.

I too worked at a DD franchise and they said that they were going to give the tips to the "Jimmy Fund" then they recanted that and said that they would reinstate out ability to accept tips unless... you were a manager. So you work your butt off so the associate can take all the $ you helped them earn. And then they don't even financially compensate you for being an assistant manager. You do so much for the company and get 9.50 per hour. I feel like I was completely taken advantage of. I would not suggest for anyone to work there unless you like being treated like you are subhuman ###.

I agree with her.

Also, I have found that most of such franchisee's owners are INDIANS.

well in a capitalist economy you often find yourself working for the man, maybe that manager who most likely got a management degree or had to work his but off harder than any of you to get that title deserves the money...resolution = find a new job like bartending where u keep your tips (and much more of them), or do what it takes to become a manager and fix the problem by letting your crew keep tips and increase moral, or take other punk and uneducated peoples tips and spend it at a strip club hah! work for the man or be the man baby

Actually many states have laws regarding this, and management can not force you to donate tips, nor can they take tips away that were left by customers for the employees good service. My advice is to contact the attorney general, and/or labor department in your perspective states. i smell class a action law suit on the horizon, and after hearing this i will no longer be frequenting dunkin donuts. I refuse to spend my money with a company that condones this whether it was the individual owner's decisions or not, the franchise should have stepped in and ended it.

I go to DD at least once a month and I get the same thing each time a dozen donuts and large coffee for $9. This morning I had a coupon for a dollar off and my bill was $9.50 and the worker gave me a small coffee. This same worker was charging people for the free medium coffee last month and pocketing the money. I've complained to DD but no one has responded. I'm done with DD!

The Sardinha oweners care about profits, not the employee workforce. The Management needs a reality check. The owners should be required to learn Management 101 before they can own stores. Is Corporate checking up on these franchisee's?

I'm a customer, (really). I like to leave tips, most of the dunkin's employees deserve it. But some of the stores around here, (Boston) allow tipping, others do not. All of these stores are busy, clearly doing well. How selfish can owners be?

I have worked at Dunkin donuts for 4 yrs.now and have had a set schedule 2 to 10 everyday. Nothing has changed except now my manager is threatening to take my hrs away from me if I don't get a nys food protection certificate. I am just a crew member. My store does not want to hire trained shift leaders because they do not want to pay them more, they do not pay for holidays worked, we r not paid any sick days ever. Can he take my hrs and or days away for not getting a food protection certificate? What should I do?

WHY DOES DD NOT HAVE TO ABIDE BY THE FAIR LABOR STANDARDS ACT...REQUIREMENTS FOR TIPPED EMPLOYEES THOUGHT IT WAS FEDERAL REGULATIONS
Retention of Tips: A tip is the sole property of the tipped employee regardless of whether the employer takes a tip credit. 1 The FLSA prohibits any arrangement between the employer and the tipped employee whereby any part of the tip received becomes the property of the employer. For example, even where a tipped employee receives at least $7.25 per hour in wages directly from the employer, the employee may not be required to turn over his or her tips to the employer.
