Duo Mobile Wow people are dumb

I can’t believe how dumb the people giving this app 1 star reviews are. Basically

“I’ve used the password ‘password’ for 50 years and now this app wants me to not lose my account! *shakes cane angrily*”

Securing your account against attacks is a good thing. Some of the accounts that I’m using this 2FA app to protect have a LOT of money in them. Yes, of course I want to do everything possible to prevent some hacker from stealing it all.

This app is simply a number generator that prevents anyone who doesn’t have your phone from getting into your account. The hacker has to figure out your username, password, AND steal your phone to get in now. How is that a bad thing?

Anyways, the app does a great job for what it was designed to do: generate 6 digit numbers. I especially like it because I can generate the number on my Apple watch, which is usually easier for me to get to than my phone.

If you switch phones just remember to remove 2FA from your accounts first. If you forget to remove 2FA from your accounts you can always use one of the reset codes that the site told you to keep safe right?

Honestly giving this app a 1 star rating is like giving your car key a 1 star rating because you’re too dumb and you locked yourself out. This app is just the key. You’re the problem, not the app.

Duo Mobile Great App, Until it Wasn't

I had another authenticator app, which was amazing. Then, my university forced me to start using Duo. So instead of having two authenticator apps, I switched all of my accounts to Duo, including my 'Login.gov' authentication. Fast forward a year, or so, and I upgraded to a new phone, transferred all of my data to my new phone, and thought I was good to go. Then, today, I go to logon to a government site via login.gov and it asks me for the authentication code from Duo. So I open the app and it says my account for login.gov has been disabled. I attempt to 'Back up Third Party Accounts' on the app, but it said my password was wrong and that I only have four more tries before my account is locked. Long story short, I am now locked out of my login.gov account permanently and there is no way to recover it. The only thing I can do is delete my login.gov account which, according to the government website will "remove any agency applications you have linked to your account." I paid $100 to be part of the Global Traveler program through the government, and now I have no way of accessing my application. As far as I'm concerned, Duo owes me $100 for that application I'm not able to access now and have lost. PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS APP - YOU WILL CERTAINLY REGRET IT. Shame on the developers for making such a terrible app.

Duo Mobile You broke my notifications!

Works ok but recent update broke sound notifications: I get only banner abd no sound or vibration. This is with two different organizations’ push notifications on up to date iPhone 12mini on iOS 14.2. Other apps with notifications like this (Okta) are fine. DUO tells me to complain to my administrators instead of taking feedback directly. Taking no responsibility for user experience is another two stars off.

2022: Dropped it to one star after several years of good service because latest update broke the push notification and touch the little check in the green circle to authenticate. Sometimes I hear a sound, sometimes I do not. Sometimes I see something that I can touch to take me to the duo app from my lock screen, sometimes I cannot. When I am in, The app, I see the notification for an authentication request, and sometimes I don’t. Before I clicked update yet again today in the App Store, I was able to click on the green circle with a checkmark to confirm my authentication and desire to login, but today, after all the problems, I clicked update again in the App Store, and now the little green circle does not work. My phone works, my screen works, my phone works, but Duo doesn’t. Major fail. And I can’t get through to IT support. Because I’m sure dozens of other users are same complaint because it is the APP that is broken.

Duo Mobile Trash that Appstore should remove

I have used Microsoft authenticator for my uni before this, it was fine, not as good as Google which I use daily for all my personal accounts.

This app has already given me frustration and cancer, even before being able to setup.

1. No choice. I have to use this trash. Its mandatory. Because my uni deemed so.

2. Trying to setup new phone already have Microsoft authenticator on the old one. Find out I cant transition.

3. While Trying to setup duo anyway, I add my phone number, it suddenly says “something something successful” and the QR code goes away without me being able to sync my duo app to my account with Th QR code.

Now I have a phone number and no device active. It does not have the option to add another device despite the guides stating so and logging out does not help. This is where it gets better, calling and texting my number to give me the “code” does not work either.
It says “press any key on your phone continue” after it dials.
The page where uni states why they chose this app should have also included “ to induce Cancer”

Hope the karma gets back to them.

Let me guess, the developer gonna ask me to go to the IT department and ask for their help. Yeah Im gonna go from another country in covid era to the country that my uni is in and ask for help on a Sunday 3 weeks before my semester begins and I travel there.

Duo Mobile Unable to access snapchat ever again

I downloaded duo mobile on my old phone, i hooked up my snapchat too it for some extra protection because in the past my account has been logged into without my consent. but my old phone broke so when i try to log into my account i can’t receive the code it sends to the app. i redownloaded duo mobile on my new phone so i could try to get a code. but i can only access it from my other phone which i don’t have access too anymore. i have years worth of pictures on that snapchat and i haven’t been able to get into it for a long time now. i’m devastated i’ve lost all of this. i own the email and number hooked up to this snap chat. but no matter what i try i am unable to log in. the same thing happened to my instagram account but i contacted them and they responded to me via email with a way to get back into my account. if there is anything at all you can do to help me i would appreciate it more then you know. i just really want access to old photos of lost loved ones and contact with old friends. so again, if there is anything at ALL you can do to help me gain access to my account again i will be so grateful. thank you.
i do not dislike this app, it helped me out for a while and i like the fact that it gave me a sense of security for my social media accounts. but now that my old phone is gone i’m out of luck. so i’m scared to use this app again :/

Duo Mobile Adds a certain spice to life

Ever buy a new phone? Break your old one? Or worst of all, lose it? Well thanks to Duo, you can say goodbye to all your passwords as well!

Once you redownload Duo, every account you had linked to the old app is totally unrecoverable! You cannot link your new duo app to your old iteration. This means that locked behind a shattered screen or somewhere in the back of an AT&T store, your old 2FA is permanently locked. You get to reset every single 2FA you’ve ever used now! Use duo for coinbase? I hope you love emailing them your driver’s license and waiting a week to get back in to your account! Use duo for school? Endless late and missed assignments await as you hope IT responds to your email! Does your boss make you use duo? You might as well pack up your desk now.

That’s right, I want to fully reiterate this: when you redownload duo, you lose every single linked account’s 2FA and have absolutely no way whatsoever of regaining it! And that is *by design, it is an intentional choice by the company!

My life was far, far too easy before duo came into it. Now, it’s exciting! Whether I’m unable to perform basic tasks at school, kept out of my employee accounts, or locked out of my personal savings, I’m always unsure in what way duo will attempt to ruin my life next. It’s like the brisk of a bright spring morning, you never know what’ll happen next. Thanks, duo!

Duo Mobile Recovery does not work at all

Unlike many complaining people here, I do still have access to my old phone. But I can't sell it. Duo is on it and I can not transfer it even so I have full access to old device. When I install duo on new device it adds all accounts but they are all disabled. On old device I did set password for this situation and I have it on hand but I still can't do anything with it because developer forgot to add "recovery" button. It simply is not there. All I see is to do the same thing on new device (create recovery password) In their "help" page they show I should see something like "recovery page" upon first install on new device but nothing. All accounts are already there but disabled asking for qr code, basically set everything again like I don't have nothing at all. Seriously, why do I have that recovery password when the new app on new phone does not have any access to use it! I even installed it to the older ipad hoping I will be able to sell my phone but nooooo. Even there is just button "how to recover" which shows you on their page form which is never displayed on the app in iphone or iPad. I updated all to newest version (old and new phone) no help. This Wil take me hours to access my accounts and some I can't. So I have to keep my old iphone and I need to send it as trade in to my provider. So I will loose $1000 now as I can't trade it in. Thank you very much.

Duo Mobile Employees need some control

Please read MORAL implications

I am not writing to critique the app itself as I just downloaded the app. A small background, I work for a company who now require this specific app to be downloaded on our personal phones, or we will have "resigned" from the company.

My immediate problem with the app is it gives all control to the company, including the control to direct the app to change my phone, and no ability to turn off the app while not at work.

I feel if the app is being forced on employees by employers to save them money, it should be a "moral" obligation on the part of the developer to give the employee (owner of the phone) some control over the app and how it may function on the phone. But instead, that area is turn off to the employee and total control is granted to the employer.

In my case there is no on/off toggle where the app could be shut down while not needed to perform work functions, and thus reducing the employer's ability to mis-use the app on your phone on your personal time.

Please consider the MORAL obligation to allow the person who is being forced to use your app to have some control how it will be used on their own personal phones. Not everyone works for company that are completely trustworthy. Just because the company made the agreement with you, should not automatically eliminate all rights employee may have over their own personal property, nor give 100% control to the employer over a non-company own phone.

Duo Mobile Ignore the “good” reviews - Duo is great

Thanks to duo my grades are protected from not only foreign intelligence agencies looking to find out about my freshman astronomy course, but they are also protected from me! Duo has protected all of my third party accounts so well that now I can’t even access them! Since my duo account has been disabled and I no long we have access to Google docs, blackboard, gmail, etc. i have been testing the waters of just how protective duo is and have found out that the only way to regain access to all of my accounts is to contact my IT desk! Ohhh but of course my IT help Center for my university is closed. Now, I have access to none of my accounts and duo has protected them from anyone, including myself! Bravo to this amazing app which is forced upon its unwilling users ❤️

But in all honesty, duo is like a dull spoon when it comes to 2 factor authentication options. Things like gmail offer really efficient 2 factor authentication where you just receive a text instead of having to go on an app that will spontaneously decide it’s taking a break. Ignore any of the good reviews because it’s just pick me users who haven’t had the experience of losing their phone or changing their number and having to go through the bureaucratic process of regaining control over what is essentially everything on your computer. I hate duo and would give it 0 stars if I could. It’s a pathetic app that fiends off of my tuition like a parasitic virus. The only virus in this world is you, duo.

Duo Mobile User Experience = Unimproved

You promised that this new update would improve my user experience. I was so excited! I get to use Duo every day, multiple times a day, so who wouldn’t want a better user experience? I thought maybe there’d be cute animals, or creative puns, or maybe a mini game or a free tote bag. I believed in you, and I was in, Duo Mobile. I was really all in.

It’s been a week now, and I’m disappointed to report that you’ve let me down. The buttons have switched sides, and even now, I still sometimes accidentally “cancel” my authentication! The buttons are also smaller than they used to be, which requires more coordination. I’ve messed up a few times. Can you believe it? Sometimes I fail to authenticate, and sometimes I’m in public, in front of students! I’ve given it a fair trial, and I pains me to admit this, but my authentication experience is actually worse now that it used to be. Each time I use the app, I am a little bit sadder than I was before. My friends tell me this is a microaggression. They think you’re trolling me, and all the others like me. “It’s a trick,” they say. “Move on! There are other authenticators in the sea!”

But we both know that we’re in it for the long haul, Duo Mobile. We’ll be together forever, or at least until the end of my career. I’m not sure you’ll ever read this, but I want you to know that I believe in you, Duo Mobile! You’ve dreamed of a better authentication experience for all, and I know you can make it happen! We’re all counting on you. Don’t let us down.

Duo Mobile Worst app ever

I never write reviews, but this app is the only app that has ever actually gotten in the way of my life by ruining the start of my semester. I get why some people may want this app. Really, I do. I was forced to get it on my school account for a temporary, 3 month job nearly a year ago. Until now, it’s just been absolutely annoying (since I’ll have to pull out my phone DURING CLASS which professors don’t love), but today I realized that thanks to this disaster of an app, it’s going to mess up the beginning of the semester. I’m out of the country and I had recently received a new phone. DuoMobile wasn’t downloaded onto this phone. My phone has no service, only WiFi, so despite the fact that I have now downloaded DuoMobile, there’s no way for me to log in without initially calling the old phone (which is over 2,000 miles away). I tried to sign in using the code I was given last year, but of course, I can’t access the code without logging into DuoMobile. This means I have NO WAY to get into my student account to view my syllabus and assignments for the beginning of the semester. I don’t get back in time to do it once I’m home. Keep in mind through all this, that I, in no way, shape, or form even NEED DuoMobile anymore. I don’t work for those who forced me to use it anymore. But am I allowed to delete it? No. It will forever be linked to my school account, forcing me to take out my phone during class and ensuring I can’t access my student account until it’s too late. All I want is to delete this sadistic excuse for an app and move on with my life.

Duo Mobile Reliable, easy to use, effective

It's both humorous and sad that most of the negative reviews are from disgruntled students upset that their university is forcing this on them. If you are interested in the app itself and not some student's rant, read on.

I've been using the free version of this app to add 2FA for multiple applications for years. It's always worked great and been extremely simple. My place of work is now using it as well, and it works equally well at a corporate level. It provides a simple, effective, out of band 2FA experience. I've used google Authenticator, Microsoft authenticator, last pass authenticator, and others. Those apps all have their place, but push notifications is a great mechanism for 2FA, and much easier than manually launching an app and entering/copy/pasting a code. It's more secure than SMS or a desktop app that you run from the same machine that might already be compromised. Others (like Gemalto/safenet) are now seeing the simplicity and effectiveness of cloud based 2FA and push notifications and trying to catch up.

As for concerns about a lack of security to launch the app (passcode, facial recognition, thumbprint, etc) - the app relies (appropriately I believe) on the mechanisms used to lock your phone. Protect access to your phone and you protect access to the app. It allows for a much more effective 2FA workflow.

I don't work for duo, I don't have a vested interest in their success. I just have a problem with people leaving negative reviews that have little to do with the effectiveness or capabilities of the app itself. It has a specific function, and it performs that function well.

Duo Mobile BSU is making me use this piece of garbage

Absolutely pathetic. The bugs, verification requirements, and overall lack of consideration from this application disgusts me. I’ve read many reviews from quite some times ago about people getting a new device, and needing their old one to log in, or needing a verification code from an IT admin to reactivate an account that shouldnt have been inactive in the first place… i’ve run into both of these problems just recently. I cant access any of my school emails, services, or homework without a reactivation code from an IT assistant because i recently switched phones. there should be a better and much more convenient way of recovering ones account instead of needing ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANCE. I NEED TO DO MY HOMEWORK NOBODY ELSE IS STEALING MY HOMEWORK FROM ME INSWEAR TO GOD. Any university using this application is remedial and ignorant to the issues it causes its students. American Unis are truly pure garbage for using this and they probably know it. To access anything even when it is working you must open the app. It literally makes u use the app for self-profit. Disgusting, I’m sick to my stomach thinking about how absolutely blind the developers must be because these should be fairly easy issues for a TECHNOLOGICAL SECURITY COMPANY to deal with. I mean. Do they just hire anyone off the streets? Past felons perhaps? I know whoever responds to these reviews is a robot, so maybe these cyborgs just dont understand humane problems? these are all the theories I have come up with off the top of my head as to why this company is failing so surely right now. Please do not download, contribute, or recommend this app to any other person or robot again. thank you.

Duo Mobile Exploitation of Universities

Look, I’m all for 2FA. But this is ridiculous that you leverage universities to NOT give students a choice or a say. These are OUR accounts and OUR devices. I promise you, students are not nearly important enough for a malicious hacker to actually waste time on, there’s not much monetary, if any monetary information that can be sourced this way. They would probably bruteforce the databases that the universities have for payment purposes and not waste time on the students account. I have no idea what kindof representative or salesperson you guys had to sell this, ridiculous and inferior software to all these universities but you guys are immoral. You’re exploiting people who have good intentions and misguiding them for your own benefit. How much are these universities forking out to use your software? Thousands? Millions? Sapping money that could go towards paying staff, providing scholarships, improving campus facilities etc etc. This is wrong and the team for this application should be ashamed. Any university representatives that for some reason manage to see this, please please PLEASE USE GOOGLE AUTHENTICATION OR EMAIL 2FA OR ANYTHING WITH SAFEGUARDS. THESE ARE LINKED TO A SPECIFIC DEVICE AND THESE DEVICES CAN EASILY BE DESTROYED IN ACCIDENTS AND CANNOT BE USED TO TRANSFER INFORMATION. THINK AHEAD FOR THE SAKE OF STUDENTS. PLEASE. PLEASE DONT LET THESE PEOPLE HOLD YOUR STUDENT BODY BACK. And for the developers, i know most of you dont have a say in what universities use this app. I know you’re not the ones pushing the product you’re just doing your job and thats great. But for the higher ups that are directly exploiting students, we know what you’re doing. and we see you.

Duo Mobile Absolutely Horrible

Let’s just start off by saying that nobody has voluntarily downloaded this app except for the people that are FORCED by their colleges/universities. It is absolutely ridiculous that i need to sign in externally twice just to get into my own email and ecampus and half of the time it doesn’t even let me in. I understand the reasoning behind the app and the security precaution but let me just tell you that college students do not care about other college students’ accounts. Nobody is signing into their friends accounts because there is nothing valuable to them on it. I have had my phone stolen/lost and it has refrained me from accessing my email and school account which ha sultimately led me to suffer the consequences. I recently got a new phone and i’ve spent the past 2 hours trying to set up my new device but your system seems to think that the password that i’m entering which i know is correct, is not. I can’t even check my final grades because you guys are so worried about someone accessing an account they don’t even care about. If you are going to make money off this and make schools think they need your service you should start to fix things before we begin to complain more. This is the first year it’s been implemented and let me tell you i have not heard 1 good thing about your service from any staff or student all year. I may not understand the hardships of being an app developer but i do know that if this doesn’t become easier than you can say goodbye to partnerships. Wow, you can remember a device for a SINGLE DAY? why even include that joke of an option? Put yourself in a students shoes for a second and try to figure out why we all hate this app. I have friends that have failed tests and assignments because of your app and it isn’t fair to have this sort of system forced upon us.

Duo Mobile Works perfectly for 2FA — negative reviews are completely unfair

Look, I was in college finishing my degree when my university switched over to demanding that we use 2FA to login. Was it a bit annoying? Yeah. But the reason why my school and so many other institutions are choosing to enforce 2FA is because of the huge security advantage, and they picked Duo because IT DOES THE JOB VERY WELL.

It is horribly unfair to the developers who worked hard on this app to blame them for you having to use 2FA, and especially if you’re blaming them for losing account access because you didn’t understand how ALL 2FA works and you didn’t bother to read all the explicit warnings that websites put on the screen when you’re enabling 2FA. This is why they tried to give you recovery codes and why they said in bold letters that if you lose your phone you’ll lose account access and THEY CANT HELP RECOVER IT. 2FA via authentication apps is an extremely strict layer of security — they literally have no way of unlocking your account if you do something like upgrade your phone without making sure to migrate your Duo access first. This is your responsibility and you can’t leave 1 star reviews and angry messages to the devs expecting it to help anything. It just makes you look like a jerk.

ANYWAY, rant aside, I wanna say thank you to the app developers because Duo works perfectly for me as a quick, easy, and efficient authentication app. I love the integration with my Apple Watch so I can grab my security codes without even having to pull out my phone, and I’ve experienced absolutely zero issues using the app as it’s meant to be used. It’s not fancy but I don’t want it to be. I set up 2FA on every account that allows for it and I keep them all in Duo and it’s never let me down. I even upgraded phones recently and had no trouble restoring my access when following instructions.

Thank you for this app and all the work that went into it. I’m sorry people are dragging it unfairly, but you’ve made a loyal user of me !

Duo Mobile Quick UX Feedback

Just wanted to let the developers know that the passcode experience is poorly designed. The first time I chose to log in using a passcode instead of a push notification was a mildly frustrating experience.

I entered the passcode exactly as the app displayed it: three digits, a space, and three more digits. My login attempt got rejected and I didn’t understand why. I’d entered EXACTLY what was shown on the app’s screen.

I tried again WITHOUT using a space after the first three digits this time. My login was successful.

There is no indication either in the app or the login portal that the space displayed in the passcode is for readability purposes only, and that passcodes need to be entered WITHOUT a space in order to work.

Equally frustrating is the reason I chose to login with a passcode in the first place. I keep my phone’s clock set 5 minutes ahead because I am neurodiverse with a condition that makes time awareness a challenge for me sometimes, even with my medication. Setting my phone’s clock a few minutes ahead is the only solution that ensures I’ll be on time when I’d otherwise appear rude, inconsiderate, and disorganized for being late.

I wanted to log in with the quick and simple push notification option, but when I tried, I got an error from the login portal claiming my phone’s time zone was incorrect. I immediately knew it’s because I have Apple’s automatic time setting feature tired off on my phone.

Rather than going through the process of entering my credentials on my computer, going into my iPhone’s Settings > General > Date & Time, toggling automatic time zone on instead of off, logging in via Duo’s push notification, then returning to the Settings app to reset my phone’s clock to fit my neurodiverse needs every single time I need to log in to a section of my institution’s website, I figured simply using the passcode option would be far easier. It is, but there was still a frustrating UX roadblock that really didn’t need to be there. If my college didn’t require me to use this app for 2FA, I would have abandoned it entirely then and there.

I use 2FA for Gmail, online banking, and a few other online services where I care about protecting my accounts from getting hacked. I have never encountered an issue with my phone’s manual time setting interfering with 2FA before this.

I’ve given this app a 3 star rating because of these issues. My “time zone” issue might be a unique challenge among your users, but I guarantee you I am far from the only one who got confused when the passcode didn’t work. That’s a very bad experience with an incredibly simple fix of either adding some clarifying text in BOTH the login portal and the app or just removing the appearance of spaces in the app.

Duo Mobile Incompatible with viewing email on phones

I’ve seen basically this same review and response from Duo, but Duo still doesn’t get the clue that the issue is on their side of things and DUO are the ones that need to fix this issue!

Duo on my iPhone 11 works fine to authentic my log in when using my laptop to view my email, O360, etc. (Account is through my university.) BUT when I try to add my university email to my iPhone it just won’t work! I’ve tried the Apple Mail app, the Outlook app, and through my phone’s browser. All 3 have the same problem: after I log in with my campus email and password (which work) it sends me to the page where it says I need todo the duel authentication. This is the screen that on a computer it has me click on a button to have Duo send me a push notification through the Duo app on my phone. However, instead of being able to click on that button it just shows a blank box!

Again, others have posted this same problem here in the reviews, but Duo just brushes it off as a user error and says to contact our university IT support - I’ve been working with my college’s tech support department for days now trying to fix this! We have tried everything! No success. Nothing on Duo’s support pages either. Now, seeing the same problem from other users in the reviews here, and the horrible ~2 star average in the App Store, I know it is their laziness in not fixing a MAJOR flaw in their app design.

I NEED my email on my phone! I don’t look at my computer every single day, and if I do it’s not until later in the day. But I do look at my email on my phone several times a day. I KNOW this is a common way that people access their email accounts and so it should be designed to work this way. I haven’t even started my new grad program (starting in

Duo Mobile Frustrating, non-transparent, and unethical

This company (owned by Cisco) preys on schools and universities under the guise of providing a “security” service. My law school recently implemented it and it has caused nothing but problems and delays and frustration. It has disrupted students, it has disrupted professors, it has even disrupted classes (a professor accidentally left her phone at home and could not even access class material). This is the most frustrating and ineffective two factor authentication method I’ve ever used. I’ve used non-third party two factor authentication that was flawless and exactly how it should work. There is no reason one should even use a third party one, especially if it’s this one. And simply put, this company is non-transparent and unethical.

With third party companies you have to worry about data mining. And this app (again owned by Cisco) is no different. Another student raised this concern as well. But I want you to pay attention to the company’s official response to that person. Not only is it the most condescending response I have ever seen or heard a company say to a consumer, but it was also misleading.

The company pointed to their privacy policy, stating that they do not data mine. But if you follow the link and read the privacy policy, you’ll see that they didn’t plan for you to actually read it.

Let me turn your attention to relevant provisions of the privacy policy (under Cisco):
“We collect personal information for a variety of reasons, such as processing your order, providing you with a newsletter subscription, sending marketing communications, personalizing your experience, or in connection with a job application.”
“We may combine the information we collect from you with information obtained from other sources to help us improve its overall accuracy and completeness, and to help us better tailor our interactions with you.”
“We may also collect information relating to your use of our websites through the use of various technologies, including cookies.”
Their condescending response was almost blatant lying. They say they don’t data mine. And that is true ONLY if you opt out. And that is not advertised ahead of time. Furthermore they still aren’t clear about what data they collect even when you do opt out.

But let’s circle back to what data they admit to mining and how they use it. They will subscribe you to a newsletter. They will send marketing communications. Marketing. The main concern of data mining is marketing. Yet they were condescending to a consumer for concerns over data mining.

Furthermore they admit to being a part of a larger data mining network. Their own privacy policy states they use information they collect and obtain (buy) from other sources. Data. Mining.

I think it’s pretty obvious based on their response to that reviewer and reading their actual privacy policy that they are non-transparent and misleading. And because of that, it’s unethical.

And if that isn’t enough reason to avoid this app, to especially avoid implementing it on a business or school-wide level, think about data breaches. They happen regularly. It even happened to a credit reporting agency that was federally regulated. A third party second factor identification app isn’t under nearly as strong of regulations. Why hand out data to a “security” program that is not only misleading, is not only frustrating and highly impractical, but also isn’t secure to a trustworthy level? Well, you shouldn’t. Do not download this app.

Duo Mobile works as intended but READ THE FINE PRINT

While Duo served me well enough for years, ‘Duo Restore’ was buried somewhere in the app and since I never found my way there, I am now in a position of contacting every bank, service, organization with whom I’ve registered a Duo 2AF and going through extensive account recovery processes. Duo UX designers, listen up (sorry, you know who you are), ‘Duo Restore’ needs to be IN THE USER’S FACE from the moment we begin using the app. It should probably be required to be enabled in order to use the service, seeing as how EVERYONE will need it at some point (nobody keeps the same phone forever). It’s a vital feature, with a very high cost to the user if it is not engaged. Fix yourselves.

Duo Mobile Terrible communication

I happily used Duo Mobile for years before I switched to a new phone without thinking to update my accounts. Had I known that at some point I could have started backing up my authenticator codes to iCloud, I would have done so. Now, I’m locked out of two of my most important accounts with no recourse. This could have been prevented with a simple pop up, text, or email to users notifying them about this feature. Even if your job requires you to use this software for your corporate login, stay far away for personal use. While your IT administrator can help you authenticate in, they shouldn’t have to do the extra legwork because of Duo Mobile’s failure to communicate with their users.

I hate this app so much. I lost everything because of this app. I lost all my social media accounts and even my college school account. I thought i was protecting my accounts using this app but i really wished i never used it at all i regret ever downloading it in the first place. My old phone didn’t back up properly and i lost everything on it including access to all my apps. I’m so mad because there’s nothing i can do to even get them back they’re just gone forever and i had a lot of memories on my snapchat and just like that they’re all gone i had about a thousand photos and videos and i’ve had snapchat for over 6 years and its all gone i tried everything to get it back. This app ruined that for me

Duo Mobile Stop using push notifications

My university forces us to use this annoying app. It uses push notifications to log you into your account. Because you know, changing your password and memorizing a new one every semester is worthless apparently.. So if by some reason you don’t have your phone on you or the battery is dead, you cannot log into your university account. I had to invest in a portable battery this semester for this exact problem. Instead of sending a push to allow us to log in, we should log in like normal and it sends an “alert” letting us know someone is logging in to our student account. Otherwise, please universities: STOP USING THIS APP. And can the people who made this app stop putting fake ratings to skew the average?

Duo Mobile I would pay to not have to use this

Daughter’s university recently implemented usage of Duo. If I need to log in to pay something, I have to wait for her to get the approval. The problem is, we are in different time zones. So she may be asleep when I need to access her account. It is extremely frustrating, and there should be a way to have two different devices authorized for approval. At times when we are together, there can be a lag when she gets the actual notification. As others have mentioned, if you don’t see the notification pop up you can easily miss it as it doesn’t stay on the screen. Please make an option for two devices...it would also be helpful for when you get a new phone and still have access to authentication on the second device.

Duo Mobile New Phone NEED HELP

This app works until you get a new phone. And the problem is there are NO resources to address this problem. Chat support will direct you to a generic link regardless of what you say and there’s nothing in the app to help you get support for the codes not working

I got a new iPhone to replace my old cracked screen and the codes stopped working after I reconnected. I use this app to 2FA money accounts and now I have no access to many of my assets. NEED help from duo to help me access this again and NEVER RECOMMEND using this app until their support becomes available to help customers. Im currently in fear of having lost thousands based on this app not willing to work with me unless I pay for their subscription service

Duo Mobile Add Naming Option

The app works well, just lacks a couple key features.

The ability to add names to site codes, instead of just selecting "other" for third-party, needs to be added. Right now the only way to identify different websites (one not included in the preset list) is to add "website name" before the account name. You start to loose track of which codes belong to which sites.

Also, the ability to manually sort is nice, however, multiple types of auto sort feature would be nice i.e.: sort by alphabetical, most recently used, *MOST OFTEN USEDetc.

The ability to group multiple account logins under one website would be awesome!

Like what you guys do. Works flawlessly so far. Keep up the good work and please keep these thoughts in mind for future updates

Duo Mobile Can’t log back on to Facebook app!

I went to my fb and changed to a new email then was logged out and immediately prompted to login the code for 2 factor authentication to log in. I was trying to change my app to the new email but it cannot change, I even tried to login the codes associated with the old email but it does not work, so I tried to add a second Facebook app on duo but do not know what the key and the account to make or use! I can not login in to my Facebook at all and tried to request Facebook help support. They have not wrote me back and now I’m completely locked out from my account. I do have a recovery password for duo but I’m not sure where to enter it. Would really like if someone could help me please. Maybe send users a temp code to log on to the 2 factor authentication?:(

Duo Mobile The Definition of Inconvenience

I have never had an app cause so much aggravation than this one. Don’t get me wrong, DUO is a great concept! However, it is so secure it is not even worth having for the user. I had to download this app for my University and I constantly have to authenticate every. single. login. EVEN if it’s from the same device every time. I mostly use my laptop for my University websites, but since DUO is on my phone, I have to authenticate every login possible. While this seems like a lazy complaint, it’s such an inconvenience because half the time I can’t send a push notification, it has to be a passcode which expires faster than you can type it in.
I already loathe this app and I’ve only used it for a few months now. If there was a way to disable it I would do so in a heartbeat.

Duo Mobile This app is passive aggressive?

If you read the reviews for this app, both positive and negative, an intriguing pattern emerges…

The blatantly bitter diatribe toward other users is not a review; rather, it seems as though every positive review I come across (always a perfect 5-star score) is somehow a passive-aggressive response to dissatisfied users.

An interesting approach for the developers to cover-up a slew of issues while also expressing retaliatory frustration towards their own users.

Oh, also… I never even got this app to work in the first place. Both my university and the “support team” for this app were of no use; every meager solution attempted to resolve the issue was to no avail… so I can’t even speak to the countless frustrations of others— but I am now glad I never got such a chance.

Duo Mobile Love frustration and inconvenience? This is the app for you!

TL;DR avoid this garbage application at all costs.

Anything linked to this app requires you to open the app and verify a push request (or manually type in a passcode).
If you try to login to a website, say your university’s Blackboard from the uni library, and don’t have your phone, you’re screwed.

You’d think upgrading your device would at least be excepted from this crap, right? Nope. In an age where you can hold your old phone next to your new one and have everything transfer over, this should be ez pz. Not for Duo Mobile! These cranks make you authenticate using your old device (factory reset and turned in for a rebate) in order to validate your new device. Now EVERY app or website linked to Duo is UNUSABLE. Their response? “Contact your [insert app / website helpdesk here] because we can’t and won’t do jack.”

Duo Mobile Please remove the ‘Approved’ popup

The recent update of showing an ‘Approved’ popup has made daily work tedious for software developers. Could you please forward the below to your IT department, so they can hopefully consider removing it?

As developers, we often have to log on to multiple servers at the same time. Since we have duo-push authentication enabled for logging in to each server, logging into 10 or even 20+ plus servers (which is an everyday thing for developers) becomes tedious, since we see a 1 second long ‘Approved’ popup before we can approve the request for the next server. This 1-second-delay per server makes logging onto 20+ servers considerably frustrating.

It would be a great help to IT people (which would be a considerable chunk of your users) if you could remove this popup, and I doubt the non-technical user-base would care about the removal of this feature at all.

Thank you.

Duo Mobile Not a great app

I have used this for school for about an year or so, but I really have had a difficult time.

I am first of all thankful for the app developers who spent their time creating this app. I certainly could not make this app myself, but it seems the user experience is just not great.

The app constantly requires you to update your phone to the newest operating system. I understand it’s for security purpose, but it can be frustrating. I have an Apple Watch and it has been difficult to receive notifications.

However I appreciate that you can stay logged in for a day, but I wish they would access your location so you don’t have to login everyday from the same place.

Maybe I don’t understand how the app works, but it seems if they revoked the daily password input and yet still have you just press a button from your phone.

I don’t know tbh, but that was my honest opinion of this app.

Duo Mobile Horrible

This app will lock you out of your account with no means of getting back in. They send you a recovery code and have you use a 6 digit code from the app and if you get signed out or something your account is locked and don’t even bother trying to contact them it’s like waiting for a pig to spread wings and fly off. If you want your account like Instagram, Twitter, Amazon to be secure but your a forgetful person when it comes to passcodes and want your account locked up behind bars then be my guest to download, other than that do not download this bs of a app. I just wanted som security for my Instagram and now I’m locked out my account, these crusty developers don’t know what they’re doing and are not prepared for certain circumstances that a consumer might go through. This app is very poorly made and I’m telling you now don’t push that download button, your gonna be mad, frustrated, upset and all the above.

Duo Mobile Avoid this App at all costs

I downloaded this app to use as 2FA with my IG account. When I upgraded my phone to a new iPhone X, the app disconnected from my IG account. I can now no longer log in to my IG account without a code from this app. But this app will not generate a code unless it is reconnected to my IG account.

Essentially, I can’t log in to IG without a code from this app and I can’t get a code from this app until I log in to IG.

None of the recovery codes work.

When I contacted support, they said, sorry we can’t really help. Because of this app I have lost everything on my IG account which I use for business purposes. I have no ability to log in.

The ONLY reason I cannot access my account is this ridiculous app and they have no ability to help you when you can’t get their app to work/generate recovery codes. The WORST decision I ever made was installing this app that I thought would protect me. Now it has just locked me from my own account. Do yourself a favor and AVOID THIS APP LIKE THE PLAGUE.

Duo Mobile The App that Ruined Online Communication

Look, I admit that I am not an IT security expert, but I have had compromised emails that security technicians were able to secure in moments. On the other hand, Duo has greatly reduced my emailing efficiency for the sake of security I do not need. It seems that they do not actually make a profit by marketing to individuals, but to institutions that choose to invest without surveying their own workers (insert the name of most universities in the US). This app prevents you from doing basic things with your email account if you do not open and use their app. It is literally an app that is made solely to promote itself at the expense of its investors. If you can avoid it, do not download this app. If you have not choice but to download it, let it do its thing to frustrate you, then write a review and communicate with your employer/institution. From my perspective, this is a parasitic application that is blindly invested in by people who don’t fully understand (or need to understand) what it actually is or does. If I could put negative stars on my rating, I would. I hate this app with a passion and I hope that enough people will respond to it as I am now, soon.

Duo Mobile Got a new phone, now I can't log onto my university account

This is the worst app I've ever used. Absolutely unnecessary and difficult. I've put up with it until now, but I can no longer sit silent. I recently got a new phone and in oder to reconnect duo to my university I need to log into my university account. But in order to log into my university account I need to verify it through duo. So obviously through this very dumb circle I can no longer log into my university account on my phone. Duo does offer verification though my old phone, but guess what? I no longer have that phone so it is absolutely impossible for me to verify my account through my old phone. I sincerely hope my university stops using this app as this is the worst experience I've ever had. All I want to do is be able to check my grades on my phone and I'll never be able to do that. And soon my 120 day access will run out on my labtop and I will no longer be able to access my school account which contains my grades, classroom, assignments, and more as I cannot verify my university account through duo. Making it virtually impossible to have access to my school account all because I got a new phone. This is the WORST app and experience I've ever had.

Duo Mobile Permanently lost Instagram account !

I temporarily disabled my Instagram account around December for personal reasons and now I'm trying to reactivate it but I can’t log back in fully because my authentication app is acting up and Instagram isn't accepting the security codes provided from my authentication app when I try to log in. I type in my username and password like normal, and it accepts it, but once I get to the part where I type in the security code, it keeps saying "error, check security code and try again", even though I typed in the correct code. I tried my recovery codes as well but they didn't work either. I’ve been trying to get back into my account for about a month now and Instagram support isn’t helping at all. I've contacted Instagram support at least 20 times and they haven't been able to help me. They suggested turning off 2 factor so I could log in but how am I suppose to turn it off if I can't even login to begin with. My authentication app is also correctly time synced so I don’t know why it isn’t working, I'm also not sure which gmail is connected to the app if there even is one connected, I've been using this app for only a few months now and I haven't had this problem before until now.

About Duo Mobile

Screenshot Duo Mobile
Duo Mobile is a mobile application that provides an additional layer of security to your online accounts. It is designed to work in conjunction with Duo's two-factor authentication service, which requires users to provide two forms of identification before accessing their accounts. This service is used by many organizations to protect their sensitive data and prevent unauthorized access.

Duo Mobile is available for both iOS and Android devices and can be downloaded for free from the App Store or Google Play. Once installed, users can easily set up their accounts by scanning a QR code or entering a code provided by their organization. The app then generates a unique code that must be entered along with the user's password to access their account.

One of the key features of Duo Mobile is its ability to send push notifications to users when they attempt to log in to their accounts. This allows users to quickly approve or deny access to their accounts from their mobile devices, without having to enter a code manually. This feature is particularly useful for users who frequently access their accounts from different devices or locations.

In addition to push notifications, Duo Mobile also supports a variety of other authentication methods, including passcodes, phone calls, and SMS messages. This allows users to choose the method that works best for them, depending on their preferences and the security requirements of their organization.

Overall, Duo Mobile is a powerful tool for enhancing the security of your online accounts. Its easy-to-use interface, flexible authentication methods, and push notification feature make it an excellent choice for anyone looking to protect their sensitive data from unauthorized access.
