Beware of electrostim medical services, also known as emsi. They provide small electric shock devices if you have back pain - which doesn't even help i bet. We went to our doctor who apparently ordered one for us but didn't really explain to us what he was doing and that it would cost so much. We have good insurance coverage however this medical unit still costs thousands of dollars even with insurance covering much of it.
My wife didn't even want this medical device or services and never used it at all. We were finally able to convince them we didn't order it nor want it and sent it back. However they sent a 'supplies' packet in the mail which i refused and sent back to their office and they are charging us $300 for it even though we never received it. It makes me sick to my stomach how medical service and medical insurance companies can get away with so much and normal people get stuck with bills. My insurance company basically said it was our word against their word if we received it and the big company always wins.
Needless to say this company has terrible customer service and will try and nickle and dime ever penny from you even if you never even used their stupid device. Beware!
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
My physical therapists supplied me with a EMSI Tens unit. The first month I received supplies with no paperwork so I assumed that it was supposed to be given to me when I got the unit. Now a month later another package shows up but this time a letter from EMSI comes at the same time and it is an invoice for the first shipment! I contacted them and they said they automatically send out supplies monthly and it is our responsibility to notify them that I didn't want the supplies. Really nice scam.
Here is the wording that is buried on the 2nd page of the Patient Information Form "It is the patient's responsibility to contact EMSI in order to stop the mailing of any additional supplies and/or the return of the unit if it is no longer needed." It does not mention monthly mailings or give you any idea of what the supplies are. DO NOT BUY, HAVE YOUR DOCTOR OR PT PROVIDE ANYTHING FROM EMSI. YOU WILL REGRET IT.
I have dealt with this company for months for them charging me and sending supplies without my permission. I spoke to my doctors office and they did not authorize the charges either. My doctors office has spoken to them several times on behalf of their patients stating they are not allowed to automatically send supplies to their clients and bill them.
I have talked to customer support via phone and email. I even sent the products back to them and still have a bill for $248. I do not see how it is legal for them to send products you did not request and send you a bill.
I feel that I was conned into taking the Flex-it tens unit by my physical therapist. I was told that I could try it out and if I didn't like it, I could bring it back. Also, that my insurance would most likely pay for it. He told me to wait until the invoice comes to see if there was a balance after insurance, that I could decide then if I wanted it. 3 months later I finally got the invoice. The bill is almost $600. I only used it a couple of times. Found it ran out of energy fast and was more trouble than it was worth. I can't get ahold of the representative. She is probably gone on vacation. (July 4th) Called the company and got them to reduce the cost to $292, but I am still not happy about it. I don't use it. Called the therapy office, they are sending an email to rep. Probably will not hear from anyone until next week. Frustrated.
I have been waiting since January 2015 for the refund of $114.66 sent as an overpayment. "Laura" the customer service rep tells the company is "slow" in processing refunds! That is her only response. I told her I was going to contact our local TV consumer advocate and she told me to "go ahead". I would never recommend this organization to anyone. Very unprofessional staff and poor business practices. Next step is contacting our local station!
I'm not sure who these people are responding on this company's behalf but if the complaints were not true there would NOT be so much hostility in your replies. You are doing no justice for this company. And to SickofWhiners, you talking about someone's grammar, you should do spell check before posting anything because their is NOT spelled thier as you have it in your post. And, I agree, THIS COMPANY IS A FRAUD, LET'S GET THEM SHUT DOWN. THEY WILL NOT GET A DIME OF MY MONEY. LOSERS!1
My physical therapist ordered a tens unit for me without me knowing at all...How I found out was Workers Comp called me and wanted to know why they ordered a tens unit that cost $1, 500
I didn't even know what she was talking about...I told her to call PT and ask them!...Your sick and in so much pain...I find it so hard to do any talking about anything...It's so hard to concentrate when you're in so much pain... I hope you never understand that >>>(XtremeD69)
You're in the line of work that calls for compassion and understanding something you lack...Everyone has stories and no two are alike...
Next time you should get the whole story before you post something that wasn't very nice...I wonder what it feels like to be you...NOT...
I have been waiting on a refund from them for going on two years now my insurance company paid 1365 for the one they sent me o only used when the pt put it on me the first time they sent me 9 supplies any way all together it was almost $2400.00 talked to them on phone they said send all of it back and we will send your refund so i did that was 2-7-15 talked to them on the phone i don't know how many times and even emailed them they say we sent your check to the big guy to sign and when he does we will put it in the mail they are all lairs because that was in January of this year. And to top it off they said that i rented so the refund would only be for $1364.00 they make me sick how can they keep getting away with this bull
I just talked to them today, for the 10th time in 2 years, but this time I got an actual person, not a machine!. I have been returning supplies for over 2 years, have asked them repeatedly to close account. They are now saying they haven't logged anything EVER being returned and that you cannot send supplies back to them 'return to sender' as they don't have enough postage on the shipment to cover it, so it is 'lost' and I need to find it. They are also now saying that the previous bills I have sent back to them with an annotation to close account, that everything has been returned for over 2 years and there are no funds due, have never been received by them (even though it is sent in their prepaid return envelope). Horrible company with horrible customer service.
Well, they certainly earned their "F" rating from the BBB - beware!

BBB has received a pattern of complaints alleging business continues to bill the customer. The business continues to ship supplies after they have been told to stop.Customers also allege not receiving any products however they continue to be billed. The business does not return phone calls.
The BBB contacted the business requesting information as to why the business believes the customers are filing the complaints, and what actions the business has taken to help eliminate the basic cause of the complaints. As of this date the business has not replied to this request.
My Physical therapist ordered a the device and it was fine, until I started to receive supplies and batteries in the mail each month that neither I or my PT requested. I called EMSI immediately and they promised to close my account and stop billing me. However, four months later I am still receiving both supplies and a bill. I have called multiple times, left multiple messages, and I hear nothing back. I have also notified the company my PT works for and they have had so many similar complaints that they are no longer using EMSI. EMSI is a shady company with even shadier business practices. Stay clear!
I actually have this same problem and will be calling my State's Insurance Commission. I asked them to send me the authorization I gave them to bill me for items I was not requesting. I will then show that they were billing me full price even after the insurance had paid while the agent on the phone, a very polite and calm young woman considering the situation, claimed that I was receiving 80% paid for by my insurance which is still a ridiculous amount.
I don't think I have it as bad as some of you, but I just wanted to tell my story: I was in the military, a PT handed me a TENS unit. Military Health Care is 0 cost so I didn't even really see a bill. I used it for a couple months, the pain went away. I moved a lot, but I did receive one package of electrodes and batteries while I was in before I got out. I'm sure they billed my insurance several times because they knew they'd pay even if the envelopes were getting returned to them because of old addresses (I moved 4 times in 2 years). I separated from the military, as a disabled vet but there is a transitional health care plan so we aren't just tossed out without insurance. We have 180 days of additional coverage, but with some out of pocket costs. EMSI "sends" about 3 packages. I hadn't even updated my information in the military for my tri-care to know where I was (in a different state). Eventually, they find me and I get a lovely care package that would have been severely underbid on The Price is Right. I think to myself, that's their mistake, I don't even have this unit anymore because... get this... I bought a better one off Amazon for a tiny fraction of the cost they billed the insurance for and it's better. I can actually get replacement electrodes and batteries for less than $10. But I digress. I move for a second time, the invoice I read said they shipped two more to my old address- again billed with no packages. I finally get my first padded envelope and I open it up here at my new residence, with them sending one somehow every month (different supplies I never needed) with the invoice saying I owe them $500. I never signed anything. I never ordered anything. I never authorized anything. The only contact I've ever had with EMSI was getting their 2 envelopes. The only thing linking me to this company at all was being handed the unit by my PT. It was off their shelf. I'm pretty sure EMSI just sent supplies and the TENS unit was purchased from someone else.
As for the positive posters on here, get a life. Nobody goes to complaintsboard.com looking to leave positive messages about a company. It's painfully obvious your gushing words are paid for. Even if you are at home in your EMSI shirt about to go to bed and say prayers for the amazing entity that is EMSI, you cannot morally justify their business practices. If a company is charging this much for cheap supplies, it is because they either know they can which is just poor business ethics, or they have to make the loss up for people not paying for their products, which they probably never asked for, again very poor business ethics. Both insure that the company makes a profit, but on the backs of people who are in pain. So think about that while you come on to a complaint message board to tell all of us who've been taken advantage of with ridiculously shady business tactics that "it depends on the situation, or blame it on "luck of the draw, " or blatantly call us all whiners (seriously... what a tool).
I have personally never experienced this from countless other insurance contractors. I guess I'm just as unlucky as everyone else who have been stung so hard that they found a place online to spend their time warning others how a boring Medical Supply Company is ruining their lives.
I'm actually genuinely curious at this point if people are just cruising this site looking to disagree with complaints.
I finally got rid of this company. They billed me for the unit that I returned to the physical therapist for a couple of years. My insurance paid them over $800 for it and they wanted $292 from me. I decided that if they kept sending a bill with a postage paid return envelope, I was going to make it cost them money. I stuffed the envelope with heavy things including pennies and nickels, an old cell battery and cardboard. It must have cost them over $1.00 for postage. I was planning on doubling the weight each month, but that stopped the billing. I had tried everything. Talking with them, filed a complaint with insurance, lots of texting. Nothing worked until I sent them the heavy envelope.
very bad business of ripping off customers and insurance companies! BEWARE! EMSI Electronic Medical Services
We are having the same issue right now. I got the stim pads, bioice, and batteries (never even used it). It was covered by Tricare insurance. As soon as we were switching insurance companies, I called to cancel the services. I was told that all products would be canceled and any pending orders would be canceled. I just received yet another bill saying I owe them AGAIN! I called them to dispute it, and they are now saying that the pending order was processed and they are holding me liable for the bill. This company is a total scam! EMSI absolutely preys on military members to scam them out of their money after being taken off of Tricare.
I also had problems with this company. They kept billing me a fee every month, which I didn't know that was going to happen. I called them and asked why I was getting a bill every month, I was told that I was gonna be charged like 4 payments and that would be all and the unit would be mine. But the billing did not stop so I told them I no longer wanted the unit and was going to send it back, they told me that I could not send it back and that it was mine now and I had to keep making the monthly premiums, this is crazy, , , , i could have purchased one from somewhere else and paid for it and it would have been much cheaper. They also said that if I was to send it back that I would still have to pay. I'm still being billed.
