My automatic road test was on July 12. Testing time on the receipt from their Internet City office says 7:30 am. Location: Emirates Driving Institute Headquarters in Al Qusais.

I arrived at 7 oclcok. My name was called around 8 o'clcok. I hopped in the car with a RTA guy and 3 other students. Then i found out the car is manual. We went back to the office, I told them i had switched from manual to automatic and showed them the receipt. They said no, you have to change your learning permit as well. But NOBODY told me to do that before. The guy in internet city office only took my money and gave me the receipt.

All right, i ran around and within 1 hour changed my learning permit to automatic. I came back to the waiting area, showed them my new learning permit, and waited and waited and waited and waited...until 4 pm! During this time the EDI guys and RTA guys of course had their lunch break without informing the students anything. I was bored to death. Later i found out there were at least 3 other students who were supposed to have their automatic road test at 7:30 am but like me, they waited until after 4 pm or later.

i find it very ironic that their slogan is "proud to be professional".

Since most students there are subcontinental, i believe EDI and RTA people simply don't give a ### about respect. Sadly, most students raised no objections.

I later complained this to my Egyptian instructor from EDI. He said many Pakistanis in the Al Qusais office take bribes.

yah you're right, i dont understand why many students fail with regards to this road test, and the usual mistake was " failure to comply with the instructions of the examiner" which is also written as (recurrent) meaning it is usually happens, why? because some examiner tend to give instruction which is not allowed, of course the student will not follow this instruction because its not allowed, or if you follow the examiners instruction you will automatically fail the test. my question is, which instruction shall we follow? ok maybe the reason why they tend to give instructions which are not allowed only to check if the student is aware of his environment. but must be they will not fail the student with this mistake.

The judging is really bad, they make us drive for 2 mins and its over..the ans is ur failed..if an arabic guy come for test with u means its over..u dont get the licence, he is been told to drive last when the car is just near the driving school..he just have to enter the driving school and park..haha..he gets it..thats in my case 3 times..
I hate this..and then everything wrong mistakes have been put in ur paper..in my case i had mistakes in lane change..haha..he never even asked me to change lanes..so dumb

I have already given 5 tests and failed all of them. Except for test one and two, I have not realised what is wrong with my driving. EDI is on money making mission and their Instructors are par below required level of skills.

Hi,

I fully agree with all the comments and concerns raised by fellow colleagues about EDI, and specially at Al Quasis. I have been going through this situation with EDI since the last two months. Endless trainings, road tests, till now five not cleared, and above all even without asking some lane changes to do, they keep mentioning the same mistakes on the paper. Its all about money making; however, they put it up as the fault is with the candidate, and keep trying hard to clear..

Dear all, I want to explain my pathetic story of being a student of EDI.I registered in EDI in 2005 and gave 3 tests and all of which they made me fail becos the examiners mood was off and he was absolutely not interested in a sincere evaluation. Today, 21-03-2011, I went to EDI to collect my clearance certificate in order to join Galadari driving institute.They told they will give clearance only if I pay extra money for 12 classes AED 720 and additional 2 road tests AED 400 and a file back up fee of AED 300.They are utter waste proffessionals sitting there without any courtesy just to mint out money from people.We could see that the file opening lobby was empty and no body was there to open a file.Its our simple request to all that if you want to join a driving school, never goto Emirates driving school, they r [censor]ed up guys with no proper knowledge right from reception to customer service to instructors to managers... bloody rascals

Dear People who in Emirates Driving Institute, I'm one of instructor in this company, and my goal is to let my student to pass as soon as possible, I read a lot of complain regarding failing for a lot of times, and some of my student are complaining because i enforce them to learn what exactly RTA wants to see from them to pass, but sometimes instead of obeying us they keep doing what they exactly they want, which is impossible for them to pass because RTA examiners trust only the license to those student who pass to their standard quality as far as driving is concerned. And don't blame the RTA not to give license those student who did not reach that quality safety in driving because if something happen to that student after she got the licensed in spite of the fact that she's not capable yet to drive safe then who will be blame? As an Instructor, I want my student pass as soon as possible but if the student don't want to follow what can we do? We are all trained, how to deal with the student, but sometimes we really don't know were can we put ourselves to give the satisfaction of our client.

This Institute is the worse, i have ever see, i did my motorcycle test and the result was really surprising which says i didn't do certain search and scan while i did, but the issue that the RTA examiner was busy on the phone and didnt pay attention, speeding 45 km/hr instead of 40 km/hr was considered as immediate fail. applying what is written in handbook turned out to be wrong as the examiner said. examiner kept the student wait for an half an hour until he finishes his tea and cigarettes, this was total arrogance. cant believe how i failed even i went there on my suzuki 1000 bike, which i bought one month ago brand new and did 2000km on the odometer.
this is really crap.

Can anyone tell me what is that the rta examiners are looking for ? today i failed my 3rd road test, in which he made me drive only for meer seconds literally :S. I really fell frustrated and disappointed, and also feel something is really funky about EDI. btw! are all the cursing and judging about EDI is f**ked up really true ?

i am totally frustrated about EDI..(emirates driving institute)..if a local is along to give a road test with you...its PERIOD...you r "fail" and she(THE LOCAL) is pass...instead of EDI putting so much of pressure on the other people for making money they should opt to charge one lump-sum ...amount and give us the licence...if it just the money ...these inspectors of RTA are so rude to non locals and very sweet at the same time to the locals...they are BIASED to the core...they make us Asians feel pathetic as if they are the chosen ones from God.-i am ridiculed and frustrated...and already spent so much of money to withdraw from this trauma...someone please tell me what to do!

Everything started when i came to my road test. Institute's stuff called me and tell to come at 8:50. However, the test started at 10:30! Only after i started complaining seriously. It seems that the institute is still at the 18"th century, where there is no computers. Even they have computers, but no information about their students is stored there! Maybe they just play games on them! They will not simply give you an opportunity to take a driving lesson without institute's book if you forgot it at home for example! The stuff does not even care about students! They usually have a lot of problems with payment information. They can simply charge you 1500 dirhams(400$) more when you paid for everything! because they have crashes in their online information system. And you will not be able to take a lesson until they will repair the online information. It might take from 1 to 2 weeks! After i passed my road test they did not want to give me a licence! They needed a passing paper which again, they do not store online! Generally speaking, the service is absolutely poor and awful! The instructor with whom i took the assesment test could not even tell me my mistakes! However, he told me that they were! He told me that i was confused. I asked 'where' ? After this question he could not find the answer and told me that i 'pass'!
I STRONGLY recommend NOT to go to this "institute"!

In simple words EDI is waste of money and waste of time which i have experienced since i joined EDI. You wont get your licence until you shed more money and several attempts. There was one poor guy sitting besides me very upset and broken, he was failed for 8th time and said he will quit the classes. There are other institutes which are not so reputed as EDI but have good success rate. I am fed up with EDI and soon will transfer my file to any of the other institutes.They have only one target that is money. They does not care ### about people .

I'll warn people about this place if someone' asks me for a good driving Institute. They keep people waiting for 3-4 weeks before assigning an instructor, lots of delays.
I was given date for my road test after 16 days of my last class, no practice in those days led me to my failure. Now have to shell out another 1000 dirhams, I'm calling them for the past couple of days to attend my classes before my retest, but alas; no response from them, I keep calling them and I'm told that they will call me back to inform me of my class schedule. I wanted to get my driving license as soon as possible, but me ending up here seems to be the biggest mistake I made this year. They have many many applicants with them, so allotment of instructors and their availability is pathetic.
Don't expect to get your license anytime soon if you're applying here.

I was opened the LMV file in EDI. for 40, regular classes. and then finished my parking test, theory test and then my assessment test is also. finally i reached RTA, road test 1st test Examiner put fail for small mistake my minor mistake 7, only but examiner making one major mistake for put failed to me. then 2, test put fail same mistake what mistake before entering road is not cleared but there is no any vehicle because EDI insitute Behind. then 3, test really i was a good driving for 10 mins but that crazy examiner put failed to me and then my 4th road test is also put fail examiner give only 5 mints and he told go to the insitute but he put failed to me. I don't know what mistake for put failed to me still now so, i vexed EDI insitute and RTA crazy examiner now i have a high mind stress not only that lot of my money and my peaceful life everything loss...!

I absolutely agree to all of your complaints. I just took my 5th road test this week and the lady examiner still failed me! She is the same examiner who conducted my exam 4times! On my 1st to 3rd exam i know that i made some mistakes for me its very minor (Hard breaking, too fast as she said) , on my 4th test she said i have to improve my lane changing then ok i just accepted it and just took the 8classes and road test again! But this time on my 5th i cannot accept it anymore i feel it is so unfair! I did everything i could and i know myself that i did not do any mistakes! The 2 other examinees even confirmed to me that they are wondering why i failed and for them i'm better than them. I have this strong feeling that there's really something wrong that is happening! Conspiracy between the school edi and the examiner itself! Yes, the school is very unprofessional, they are making the students look so pathetic even in just getting the schedules! They will make you call for few times and will just forward your calls then at the end of the day you will not get any result! They will just call you after a week or two after your last call! And the examiner is so biased as well! If you're not a local or if you're an asian! During the exam the examiner will keep on saying things to make you look failed to the other examinees and will keep quiet and even talk in arabic to the one he/she is in favor with and then pass that lucky one! Imagine on my 5th take she passed the girl who cannot even find the reverse and almost hit the other car during the parking and also she did not put any indicator when we're merging the traffic, she's so slow in moving that even the other cars on our back keep on horning! What a terrible experience! Edi school and the examiner don't have any conscience to what they're doing! They don't care how much the student spent in wasting the money, effort, time! Now i'm just going to transfer to other school and find my luck in there! Edi and the examier ruined my plan and chance to get the license this month, but they cannot ruin me and my dream to finally get the driving license that i deserved!

I agree with the comments given above as i am going through the mental trauma of RTA examiner conducted in EDI instutite in Al Ghusais. I had a very worst experience and would like to raise a complaint about the RTA examiner who does not have courtesy while talking to the students. The RTA examiner is so so rude to the asians and at the same time they are very sweet with the locals. They make us feel that we are good for nothing and makes you feel like slaves. I had my road test this week and my examiner she fortunately allowed me to drive 9 minutes and ultimately she told me that she was not happy. At the same time there was another lady who drove for just 3 minutes with so many mistakes( she stopped in the middle of the road to give way to pedestrian even though it was not a pedestrian crossing) with whom the examiner was talking so sweetly and ultimately she was passed. This is clearly an utter disaapointment where an arabic / local person is treated differently as compared to expats. RTA please i have one request " PLEASE IMPROVE THE ATTITUDE OF THE EXAMINER" I hope my message reaches the right department and some action /consideration is taken. Thanks

Such a worst experience!
Instructors are good n trained well,
But not the examiners, either the instructors shud examine the students, 0r the examiner shud take few classes to to the student. Only then we will have a an idea what they actually expect from the student.
We sacrifice, our time, money n rescheduling important stuff.
I really want to take classes with the examiners!
Can EDI do this?

Hopeless service. I don't know if I have to blame EDI staff or RTA staff but I don't care either as at the end of the day, I'm at a major loss. I had my smart yard test today. The usual procedure is that before every parking, the car gives you an announcement about which parking you are proceeding to. After completing the parking, it also gives you the command to exit parking bay. In my case, I didn't receive any command for anything. I had completed hill parking first and then emergency brake both without any command. As if that wasn't enough, my car suddenly stopped after emergency brake (I passed emergency brake so I definitely did not overspeed). After all this it was obvious that the test was not being conducted as it was supposed to and there was some Network error. I then waited and no one came for help so I decided to open my door to call for help. However, these people had the audacity to tell me that I failed the test because I opened the door. They clearly know that it was their systems mistake and not mine and still didn't give me a retest. Worst experience ever.

I paid EDS 4 months ago for my son training and still waiting for them to schedule date for him to start !
It seems it's all about money after all, no one care, no one reply, no supervisor number to properly complain, this is very bad image.
At least have the courtesy to reply to your phone calls. It's a shame!

I’ve observed it’s really one of the worst driving institute. Class schedule/booking person is extremely rude and lazy at same time . He needs to educate himself how to behave and communicate with customers.

Dear EDI management,

I am trying to get the license through EDI. They are delaying me in the classes and waiting period is too long. Instead of asking multiple time for the parking training and and test I am getting response that request is under process. I called thrice in 10 days but same response. Delaying is very annoying as we have tough timing. Please consider my request and book my parking training. Will be thank full if you can resolve issue. Going and face to to the front desk is getting horrible because they are also treating very bad. Don't know where to speak to get the license as 3 month already pass. If its happening like this may be it will take 01 year. Looking forward to hear from you.

I cleared my theory test and they told me about 6 weeks waiting time for training schedule. Now 7 weeks are gone and no update from edi. I called them some 10 times and every time they have same useless words like it will schedule in 2-3 days, couple of days, as soon as possible etc. And you obviously you are not going to have any call.

There is only one counter for registration and one counter also not working properly I’m here since 45 minutes bilim no any responce from EDI

I have sent the request for the RTA smart yard test , and after 2 weeks I am getting the reply that the test can not be booked , i first have to renew my learning permit , which still has 15 days left .So disappointed with your service
