Bad App and terrible People
I love FanFiction.net on the computer but I am having some problems with the app. First off, I don't get any notifications unless someone posts to one of the forems I follow. And two, I just got an email full of hate that was posted but when I went on the app to report the user, there was no way to do so. I have received countless sexts and messages that completely disobey all the rules and guidelines of FanFiction.Net and yet he is still posting. I checked his profile, and apparently he is a user that paid money to do stuff or something? I do not understand how a person who paid money is allowed to do whatever they want while us free users have to obey all rules. If this continues, I will delete this app. It is useless to me now, because I use the app to escape from people like that. His/her account name is bopdog111 if someone reads this. Avoid him at any and all costs. He does not post children friendly stories but rates them like they are. I looked up his profile on countless websites, and apparently he was able to get blocked on them. Fix the problem FanFiction.Net!
Great, but a little problem.(ignore problem part, just phone being weird)
One of my favorite features is the download story option, its great for when you’re on a road trip or a plane ride, or just going anywhere without internet access. a few things that aren’t too irritating but still irk me are that the library button goes straight to history, and if you’re someone like me whose number of fanfics read are up in the thousands, it makes a bit of a stall before getting to the library, so maybe having the downloaded fics page load first would be better.
But the one thing I am angry about, is that I CANNOT READ WITH MY PHONE SIDEWAYS ANYMORE! I am literally considering going back to the mobile websites tiny text and need for internet access.
while its a little thing, I would at least like to have an option, like go into read setting and turn on orientation lock instead of no sideways mode at all.
very personal problem, but it is somewhat important to me, the phone being sideways gives it more stability than I can give with one hand and lets me have a more solid grip on my phone(call me paranoid when you’re getting a screen replacement) and my case’s built in stand works best sideways.
Great App Overall, but…
I very much enjoy this app, due to the HUGE library of titles, across a variety of genres. I love that there’s a setting so the app can also be used like an audiobook; I use this feature frequently! I especially like that I can download stories to read later, offline. It’s also cool to be able to converse with authors & other users. The two complaints I do have (and why I’m only giving this app 4 stars):
1) I don’t know if there’s a way to purge downloaded stories or not, but if there is, I can’t figure out how to do it! If there’s not, I would suggest to developers that they create such a feature, as I don’t care for the clutter created in my downloaded box by stories I’ve already read.
2) When in audiobook mode, if I have to break in the middle of a chapter, the app always starts back at the beginning of the chapter, rather than picking up where I left off. It is very annoying to have to manually scroll down and find where I left off, as the voice continues reading from the start, until I can find the correct paragraph and select it to get it to jump back to reading where it left off before. I would suggest developers correct this issue as well.
Alright for what it is
When reading a fic, it is a decent reader. The screen is still quite annoying because it mis-reads small scrolling gestures as a trap and changes display mode (which also pushes there text around). It really needs a screen lock option or an option to change the tap gesture to tap with two fingers to get rid of the nav bar.
Also, a surprising power/memory hog when scrolling down long lists when browsing and downloading fics. After a few screen extensions my screen was burning up and went thru ~20% battery in about 10-15 min. I'm guessing it keeps every story that was already loaded in cache; after I turned off the prettier and re-loaded, the app crashed and I was at the beginning of the search again.
When not doing the above, it is awesome to be able to download a story to read offline (though you continually get banners at the bottom asking you to re-connect). Better yet, it barely uses battery to display the story. All in all, flawed, but still decent. There website is still superior in several aspects, however.
Bug note: since the fic recommendations are written in a different text color, they show up poorly when using the darkest background color (dark grey against black).
Why
This app. Where. Do I. Begin?
I downloaded this app on my iPhone so Idk if that affects things but I’m trying to make an account but it keeps saying something something password and the explanation just cuts off. I’m gonna keep my review as one star until this problem somehow fixes itself sooooo..
Update 1:
This app has been total garbage as of late. I’m trying to figure out how this app works and now it’s garbage tutorial is teaching me nothing. I came to read a story that was reuploaded onto a separate site in order to not bother the one that was reuploading but I might as well exert my rage onto the small things that bother me.
Update 2:
This app is still pretty garbage in my opinion but I do think that this is more directed to computer users through my experience seeing that there’s a community I was told that still exists on fanfic net so.. 2 stars for now.
Update 3:
I’m uploading a story so that people can find my self insert of my —— account to blah blah and yeah.. I’m reuploading my BNHA crossover so I’m dealing with tags now, how tf does fanfic net know what Dgm is and I still can’t find the frickin BNHA tag?!
All above updates were made on the day I downloaded the app.
Great App, Just a Few Inconveniences
Extremely thankful for the app version, I have yet to see any bugs or major differences from the website. There are, of course, a few things that have been annoying.
The sorting of the characters in the filter is extremely difficult to deal with when they're in the order of how many fics they've been featured in. I'm sure most people would prefer if they were put in alphabetical order like how it's done on the site. The same thing with fandom selection when you're looking for crossovers, having them in order of amount of stories that have been written about them makes it extremely difficult to find anything.
Being able to delete/edit your own reviews would be another nice addition to the app. It would save a lot of people the trouble of having to move between the app and the site when wanting to fix some poorly worded feedback.
Another thing, this being probably what annoys us readers the most, the screen moving in and out of reading view with only one tap really interrupts the reading experience and is incredibly annoying, most of the times we tap the screen are accidental. Fixing that would be absolutely incredible, especially if you guys could change it into two taps instead.
Other than what's written above, the app is pretty incredible. Thank you.
It’s ok- not as good as the android app, needs work
I’m really grateful for this app, but there are still a number of ways it can improve (which the developers have already been addressing). I actually think this app works really well on android phones. Most of the problems I encounter with an iPhone/iPad, I never had when using a Samsung.
A major problem is how slow the app is. 25% of the time, I choose to just read on the site.
Pros:
- reading is really nice and customizable
- easy to download ALOT of fics
- easy access to your account and stories saved as favorites
Cons: (didn’t have these with a Samsung)
- It automatically downloads HUNDREDS of stories for my app library (possibilities picking fics from my favorites?) and I cant seem to find a way to prevent it. It’s really annoying and takes up a lot of space. I prefer choosing what stories I am currently reading and downloading those.
- Sometimes it takes FOREVER to load a fic, or it just doesn’t load at all. I thought it was possibly a WiFi/service problem, but I realize if I shut down the app or restart my phone, it will quickly load fics.
- The ability to automatically go back to your last reading place after closing the app (place history) is still a little funky, but significantly improved.
- it would be nice if there was some way to sync libraries/reading histories across apple devices.
Doesn’t load quickly
I really like the app overall, but I would like to see the app make some changes like these:
1) Please, reinstate the progress tab, button along the chapter page. I like knowing where I am in a chapter. Then I can determine if I have time to read a short or long chapter. I see it return and disappear with every update. Currently, it is not there.
2) Allow for font changes to the search pages not just on the chapter pages. I am legally blind and use large fonts and cannot read the details prior to opening the book page. It has lots of other nice features like a dark theme. Just overall control of all font sizes.
3) Since I take a long time reading chapters, when I advanced to the next chapter, no matter if it is downloaded or not, I have to close out the app and return before it can advance again. Rather frustrating and can lose where I am. I have since made good use of the bookmarks because I suddenly cannot return to the page again because of loading issues.
4) Searching would be more efficient if there were more story options to chose from. It seems a bit limited.
There are my recommendations. Thank you for having the app available. I do enjoy reading these types of stories. Kiddos to al the authors out there! My hat tips to your creativity and ingenuity and frankly bravery for putting you art out there!
Nice, buggy, needs interface work
UPDATE: truly incredible. You’ve broken it again. Story flips to the last Page and the font size changes and clips the ends of lines when you shift from the program. So much for conveniently staying where I put it.
I truly enjoy this app and the FanFiction it gives me access to, BUT it could use a bit of work and flexibility
People have touched on the bugs, so I’ll give my wish list instead.
Configuability:
I would like the ability to force the upper/lower status bands to remain constant. I get lost in a good story and currently have no convenient way to monitor the time and the state of my battery without performing the status band mambo of tapping just right and then the top (important because it has the info I need) band disappears the moment I scroll without so much as a by your leave.
Screen functionality. I would love to be able to turn off the screen navigation in whole or in part. Nothing more frustrating than to be in the middle of a chapter only to slip and have the app decide you meant to flip to the top or bottom of the chapter.
Sorting. Sometimes I want my list sorted in most recently updated order, sometimes in most recently read and sometimes alphabetically by either author or title.
Other nice to have: history of the last n stories I’ve opened, not just current or last read as I have now.
Reliable and friendly
The app has all of the functions that the site does on computer. I have very little problems with the app besides the occasional crash or refusal to open. (Update 4/8: This is now a major problem. I can’t open the app)This is probably because of my older model phone, so I’m not bothered by it.
The overall app is easy to use and I like that it’s easy to find stories I follow. The site allows a wide range of stories and theres a recent list that will display fandoms you’ve looked at and puts the most recent at the top(which is so convenient!)
If you are a fangirl/fanboy, you can find x readers, however it is rarer. This site is mostly for character x character.
There’s never been any technical problems that interrupt my use of the app! Any updates are always easily installed and always fix any issues some users may experience. The log in is quick and easy, then remembered for long bouts of time. Any problems I have experienced, have been dealt with quickly!
Any personal comments are usually polite and helpful! I have only seen a few rude comments given my long use of the site, this is amazing! A wonderful community to share your stories with!
Over all I love this site and it’s always done right by me. I have a few technical issues with them, but it’s nothing terrible. As always new updates fix these issues, but I still gotta say 4.
Unhappy and Needs To Be Fixed. Add Filter feature inside Downloads and History!
I had this app on the google apps store and downloaded it there. I put a BUNCH of Downloaded stories on there. Is there someway to connect the account? I think you should be able to sync it, but it isn't working! I am using the same account, but now I have to re download EVERYTHING!
Some stories were taken down, so the only copy is on that device. Plus, there isn't a simple way to search of the stories. Like when using the filters to search for stories in the Read, it is in the order of number of stories found. It would be a lot easier for it to be alphabetized or an easier way to narrow the amount of stories.
I remember I used to be able to just search the story in google and when I clicked the link, it would immediately go to the app, but it isn't like that anymore. It just is really hard to find the story I want and I do NOT want to re-download everything.
Can you change this somehow?
Also, add a feature that allow you to shift throughout your library/downloads easier. I like the alphabetical feature and you can sort them through fandom, but it would be great if you added a way to find a certain pairing or character inside one fandom in your downloaded stories. I have like 50+ downloaded stories in one fandom and it is hard to look for a certain pairing or character. I don't want to scroll through each alphabet to find it and it is hard to remember the title when I have so many.
MAKE A FILTER FEATURE! Like the one you have on the website!
Pretty decent, but still needs work
I’ve been using this app for a while now (almost since its release, I think), and the biggest point in its favor is that it is a definite step up from reading in a mobile browser. The ability to download stories and save them for later without having to open a billion tabs is fantastic.
That said, the app is still fairly buggy. It often repeatedly re-notifies me that a story has been downloaded, sometimes incessantly. (It once did it every minute or two for about three hours while I was reading the story it was notifying me about.) Sometimes when I click into a story, it refuses to load at all and just gives me a blank page — the only fix it is often to reload the app entirely.
Feature-wise, it’s slightly frustrating that there doesn’t seem to be a way to view a story’s reviews from the downloaded tab or from within the story itself. I also would really like to be able to switch from reading to browsing and back without having to hit a million back buttons and completely lose which story I’m reading.
And, my biggest frustration, you can’t sync reading progress across devices. I like to read on my iPhone during the day and then on my iPad when I’m in bed at night, which works great with things like iBooks or Kindle, but it’s inconvenient enough with the FFN app that I just don’t bother. Plus, I read enough stuff that I actually end up forgetting which stories I’ve read and having no way to know if I read it on my other device already.
Overall, the app is really great in concept and does do some things quite well. (Actually reading on it is fine.) But there are a few things that could really use improvement in order to make this app properly user friendly and convenient.
Overall, awesome!
Hi, I’m MelodyBryte, a user on FanFiction.Net! I’ve enjoyed your app a lot and it has made posting and reading FanFiction fun and relatively easy! I used to get really frustrated with it in the past, but I’ve come back and found that either some things have changed, or I just figured out how it works and thus can work with it. I only have one or two things to say for improvement!
The website is a little difficult to work around at times. I can be difficult to find where things like your library is located, and it’s nit as simple as the app is. I generally copy and paste my stories into the story manager holder, and when you have longer chapters, it can get a little hairy on the phone of having to select all that text and paste it. I like using the website for when posting, and thankfully, I understand it better than I did in the past and it’s easier for me to work with. Another thing I found weird is that sometimes, I’ll get messages from people which show up in reviews on the website, but not see it on the app. That can become confusing, and the comments and PM stuff can get a little confusing as well.
I think the last thing I have, is the way the pictures are presented. For example, when choosing a photo for your user profile, you can’t position the photo the way you want it to look before it becomes your new profile, if that makes sense. You can’t adjust it so it fits in the way you want after you’ve added it to your picture gallery, as well as when you chose it as your profile photo. These are minor things, but I find them worth mentioning :D Anyways, thank you very much for reading this, have a lovely day and week, and thank you for this app and website you’ve created!
A Solid Start!
I've been using fanfiction.net for years, and the fact that they have an app now makes me incredibly happy. In particular I love that fics can be downloaded for later consumption. Overall, this is remarkably well put together for a first attempt, and I believe it is already the best way currently available to consume fanfiction on mobile platforms, but some improvements are possible.
First, in the vein of crossovers, I personally preferred it when opening one category would show me all of the different stories that the original story in question was crossed over with, rather than al of the crossovers. This kind of sorting is still possible, but now it's integrated with the other filters. While I do like having that filter visible (it's very useful actually), it'd be great if clicking on a story would show the other stories it's crossed over with first, as well as a button on top to view "all" fics if one wanted to do that for some reason.
Second, I've been experimenting with the reader and found that I loved it. One thing that is a bit annoying is that whenever I change a setting all of the tabs I opened to do so closed themselves, so while finding my ideal reading settings I had to open up the "read setting" several times. If that could stay open while changing settings, like font and background, and then close when you tapped away from it, that would be awesome.
The last thing I can think of would be perhaps a tutorial of some sort at the top of the settings that explains some of the more hidden functions of the app. It took me a bit to realize I could change the reader to full screen simply by double tapping, and some settings I have no idea as to what they could do (zombie mode).
I may make edits to this review as I use the app more and find more issues, but all in all, it's already an improvement over the mobile site, which was already very functional itself. Keep up the great work!
Good app, for the most part
I love to read, but I kinda ran out of things I wanted to read in my favorite genres. I now spend around 70% of my iPad time on this app! I really like exploring new and interesting interpretations of the worlds and people I fell in love with, written by people who seem to love them too.
While this is my go to reading app, and I doubt that’s going to change, I have a few issues/suggestions...
1-Sometimes when I leave the app the chapter I was on goes blank. I have to flip around for it to come back, and it usually does so in an entirely different place than I was at. (even if the fiction was downloaded)
2-The app doesn’t remember where I last read. It used to remember where I stopped reading in a fiction and return me there bookmark or not. I don’t really even like the bookmark function, and wish the previous way still worked.
3-The app will often open a new never read before chapter in the middle, so I have to scroll up to the beginning
4-The menu is currently single tap. Tap once to bring up menus tap again for reading only. I was wondering if we could make double tap an option. I keep switching between them unnecessarily while scrolling, and the page jumps when I do.
5-The app I used before this had an option to tap and hold a word to bring up a definition for it. I really loved this, it helped me understand the story better and improved my vocabulary at the same time.
6-I don’t understand why the app takes so much time to buffer fictions that are already downloaded. Sometimes I have to hard close the app and come back for it to open.
7-At one point most of my downloaded stories disappeared. It hasn’t happened again, but it took a lot of time to recover them and I know I missed out on reading some that I was interested in because I forgot the name.
Most if not all of these issues happened with more recent updates, which is kinda disappointing.
Lastly, (even though this review has a lot of negatives) I really do like the app and think most of it is done well, or I wouldn’t use it so often. Thank you for your efforts and here’s hoping for improvements in the future. :)
Love this app, but this is Ridiculous!
I am not one to complain or rate apps or give reviews but I have a few things I would like to share on account that I have been on FanFiction.Net for many years. Long before smartphones were around or even a thing. FF.net has been a wonderful forum for me ever since I was in jr high. Which makes me love this app so much. I’m able to read my favorite stories without having to to use chrome or safari because the site is not user friendly on those. My breaks at work are made less dull and it makes reading so much easier for me because my eyes aren’t what they once were, so being able to adjust the font size and backlighting is awesome! However I have been having several problems with this app for some time now that I just can’t take anymore.
To start with now it is having me login every single time I open it. I have never had to login as much as I have in the last day and a half. It’s ridiculous and very annoying. And when I do finally get back into the app all of my setting reset. So then I have to spend time going through and redoing everything I just did. And there are a couple of stories that didn’t download correctly on the app that are fine on the actual site. Also it does this weird random thing where it will pull up a story I read like a month ago up as what I am currently reading. These little issues are getting to be very frustrating. I couldn’t even send a bug report because my email apparently isn’t registered. I know it is so what the heck. I’m about half ready to say screw it and delete and reinstall. But I highly doubt that will fix any of my issues and then I would just have to redo everything anyway.
Sorry but I’m just getting very very frustrated and it is causing me to lose the enjoyment I have when I read. A part of me feels like this isn’t going to do anything but I felt that I need to put it out there that there are some major issues with this app that really need to be fixed. Those that love the site and have been on it for so long would like to just read in peace. It’s an escape form the world , it’s my escape and I don’t want to be frustrated when I should be relaxing. I really truly love this app so I hope you can find and fix these issues soon.
FanFiction.Net Complaints 16
Buggy
I really like the app I do but the bugs even on downloaded stories take forever to load. You constantly have to deal with stories shuffling in not only recently reading but also updated it shouldn’t be shifting in both as much as it does the only one that should be updating is the updated one the one with the clock the one with the eye should not be updating as well you can’t even report bugs on the app each update seems to make it worse the stories on the site are great but the app is distracting and frustrating you can’t even tell when you get pms from authors after you leave a review unless you go into the site itself from the internet browser I’m just glad it’s not bombarded with ads like most reading centric sites are now a days.
Almost Unusable
This app has often had its issues, but has been an overall positive experience. However, in the last few updates, that is simply not the case. It seems incapable of actually displaying anything its has actually loaded. I’ll be stuck on a loading screen and force close the app. When I open it again, it’s magically there. This would seem to be a workaround, but much of the time then page I was on isn’t stored and thus not loaded. It constantly resets the sorting preferences on the library, as well. In all, this is an app that has a good framework, the menus make sense when they’re not constantly changing, but it absolutely fails to deliver and is riddled with errors like these that should be easy to find and fix. This is simply inexcusable.
Not working at all, anymore
Very sad to say this but the app, since the update, has not worked at all. The stories are not loading, I can not look at my setting, my favorites, any stories or search for something. The categories of stories showed but would not load any titles, just showed the book loading image.
I tried reporting the problems on the app but it said I had no email linked (not true, I get emails of story updates)
Then I restarted my phone, still didn’t work.
Then I deleted the app and re-downloaded it and the long-in is not working now. I use a linked google account so every time I try to long in with the google account button, the request fails to load and says “request timed out”. The app works just fine on my iPad but completely fails every attempt to work on my phone.

Too strict in the wrong places
This is more of a review of the Fanfiction website as a whole rather than just the app. First off, they hit you with so many rules that you're forced to only write a certain way. People like me who use different styles or formats are wrong and they don't get a chance to write the way they want to. Then they don't let you publish or even message people for half a day after you make an account. So you have to wait for hours to do what you downloaded the app to do. And then finally, the first thing that happens in less than an hour after I got my account, I get an email from another user with a long list of "bullies" in the community to avoid. All of this has seriously disheartened my choice to join Fanfiction, and I'm currently looking for an alternative site to write my fanfictions on.
worthy of 5 stars, but
is there any way for you to show if a story is completed? for instance, browsing a particular author's stories, there's no way to filter only completed works, so at least put that indication underneath the plot summary, if you could.
MAY I SUGGEST, with the symbol of an open book for ongoing, and closed book for completed? this really is a huge deal
will revert to 5 stars once this issue is addressed

previously reviewed this, but it somehow got deleted?! i just love this app. used this in my android phone and i couldn't be happier now that it's in iOS. the developers are awesome, too. usually they respond to feedback and address issues asap (via google play at least, and that was almost 2 years ago, maybe? when android was my daily driver) still, thanks so much and keep up the great work
Good app . faulty updates lately
I love this app. I usually listen to whatever story I’m reading but lately that’s been difficult as it stops reading out to me sometimes after one paragraph and I have to go and select the next paragraph to get it started again. Also if the story doesn’t load the updated chapter it kicks me out of the app and logs me off so I have to log back in. Along with the stories that I have saved being updated but really they aren’t and haven’t been updated it just reloads it like it has and I have to go into the story to clear it and some updated ones don’t even show up with the others on occasion. Ever since these apparent last two-three updates there’s just been more issues popping up.. usually I don’t have any issues with this app I love being able to access these stories from anywhere and have no issue reading them .please fix this
Great Idea, Super Disfunctional
First of all, the link on the app store to “app support” is a broken link. Not confidence inspiring. Secondly, this app used to be very easy to use and a great way to easily access new stories, revisit your old favorites, and follow great authors. The reading interface was 100 times better than the FanFiction.Net website for numerous reasons and was my favorite thing about the app. Recently the app has almost become unusable because it is plagued by the adorable but super frustrating “retry” icon whenever you try to access anything- yes ANYTHING. Even the simplest pages are sometimes inaccessible for hours. I have been unable to read or review any stories for weeks because the app is constantly unable to connect to servers reguardless of how fantastic my internet connection and speed are. Not sure what happened in the last six months but the app is seriously struggling.
Decent, but the little things bug me
First and foremost, I’ve had this app for 2-3 years and can see just how far it has come in that time alone. I have my qualms with it but my problems differ from device. When I had my android, the app was extremely convenient. I’d find a fanfic on the site and it would open immediately on the app. If there is a feature like that on apple, I sure don’t know where to find it, but I still miss it severely. Regardless, it doesn’t ruin my experience on my iPhone . What does ruin it is this iPad font problem. I have a huge 11 inch iPad and like reading on it because it stays up on my bed better than my phone, but the font issue makes me sick. Literally, it gives me a headache. 75% font on a big iPad is ridiculous. I have to scroll every 10 secs and my eyes are strained. It gets tiring. If this issue is fixed, I am willing to change my star rating, but until then, this stays at a 2.
So many bugs
This app is really frustrating to use, especially since the last update. The app is constantly logging me out and losing all my settings, losing my reading history and losing my place in the story I was reading. This seems to happen every time my WiFi drops or if try to use the app on airplane mode. This is really inconvenient as I prefer to set my phone to airplane mode whilst reading to avoid distractions. What’s the point of downloading stories if I get constantly logged out if I try reading offline?
Also, error reporting is seemingly disabled and comes up with an error page or a message saying that my email address is not set (which it is).
Screen display settings, especially typeface settings, come up randomly extremely often when scrolling the story. It’s very annoying and distracting. It would be much better if it was harder to access those settings, as they aren’t adjusted often.
Most recent update broke app
Was working fine for me, but this update where when you tap “Read” and they make you chose a sub-menu (one more click to get to your stories! Why? That’s LESS efficient) now won’t show me any stories! It keeps displaying the turning page icon and won’t connect to FF. When I access the website from a browser, it connects fine, so the site isn’t down.
Please test your app before releasing updates.
UPDATE: 1. It now connects, but it’s hit or miss.
2. App loses my place in the chapter if I have to navigate away from or close the app. This is a pain. This used to work beautifully, but seems to have gotten broken in a recent update.
3. If I change the reading background color (say from black/night reading) to one of the lighter backgrounds, I now have to close and reopen the the app for the change to take effect. This used to happen immediately, without having to close and reopen the app. Frustrating.
New update and old bugs
Hey, my name is Stephanie and I’ve been using this app for around a year and a half and I’m usually a very patient person. However I feel the new updates that this app has been going through reverses the experience of “updating” the app. Firstly, they added a voice reader feature that eliminates listening to music at the same time as reading, and that is insanely annoying. Secondly, chapters black out frequently so in the circumstance that I’m reading through a multi chapter book, I’d swipe for the next chapter and I’d just be black. Thirdly, the app DOENST save where I left off for multi-chaptered novels, somehow always reverting back to chapter one that it’s getting really annoying.
At this point I’m thinking about using another app because not being able to listen to music while reading is the biggest deal breaker. Thanks for everything, but I liked the monkey type writer loading screens a lot better than the flipping book pages.
Page Scrolling
I’ve always liked this app for the most part. My one big complaint is how I scroll through a page of stories and it eventually takes me back to the top. It used to only do this every few days, but now it does it after almost every story. It takes me back to the top and I have to keep scrolling forever to get back to the next story I want to read. It was bad enough when it did it occasionally, but it’s very annoying to do the scroll of death after each story I read! I wish the app let you click from page to page of a select number of stories instead of a continuous scroll. Give us page numbers to click through and allow us to pic the number of it takes us back to the beginning. At the very least, do not allow continuous scroll to take it back to the top. I read fandoms that have thousands of stories, so it’s basically impossible to read older stories for fandoms I’ve just discovered. Another solution would be to look up stories from a certain time period.
Why so complicated?
The old site may have had its flaws, but it was so beautifully simple. They actually used words instead of weird symbols that made no sense. If you wanted to look up the history of all the reviews you left… There it was under “review history.” If you were looking for an answer or help… It actually gave you answers or help. Here, anytime you want help it shoots you right back to your own page. Thanks. There’s so much I can’t do on this app that I was able to do on the old page. Why don’t you have some sort of index? And worst of all… how did you manage to to put this all together in the most most illogically, overly complex, clunky way possible? Yes there are positive points which I do enjoy - I can easily find a story that I started to read. There the ability to “download” a story. Technically, it’s really just a bookmark. (only for online reading) And I really do appreciate the lack of advertising that breaks up the page in the old site. But to be honest, navigating this thing is one of the greatest headaches on the Internet.
Flipping Pages of Death Icon
These issues have been going on for roughly a year now:
Takes roughly 25-30 minutes to show a chapter. I get the flipping pages of death icon every time I open a new chapter of a story that should already be downloaded. Closing the app or restarting the phone doesn’t seem to help. Says ‘download failed’ every time I open the app even though my cellular and/or WiFi connection is just fine and the stories show up in my downloads folder.
I don’t understand why even already downloaded stories take forever to display. Shouldn’t it be almost instant? With every update it gets worse and worse. At this point the app is unusable. My iOS is up to date and I’m on a newer iPhone with lots of storage space so... not sure what the problem is but these bugs have been happening for almost a year with no fix.
Also the app is so broken that even the report bug feature doesn’t work.
The content in the site is great, but whoever is developing and maintaining the app is failing horribly as far as the app goes. Stop updating. You’re just making it worse.
I was super excited, for a minute
Like I downloaded it and expected to be able to log in but the log in wouldn’t work. I tried to reset my password, it sent me a password reset link, i copied the temporary password and tried to log in using that but it didn’t do anything. It would click the button to log in, but wouldn’t actually process the request. I tried creating a new account using a different password, but it said that I can’t use a part of the username or email and I had to use special characters, I reviewed the username and deemed that there are TWO letters that are also in my password, so I changed my username to something else so nothing in the username or email was similar to the password, but somehow it still gave the same result. I’m super disappointed. Y’all have been around for years, I would expect your crap to work better than this. You updated a week ago and I’m assuming maybe that has something to do with this, but I’d also assume that means others have had this issue, in which case this should be working by now. I even uninstalled and re-downloaded, which didn’t help.
Not impressed
From what I’ve seen so far of this app it’s garbage. Even though I’ve been a member for at least 8yrs I decided to download the app the other day. The first time I tried to log on it notified me that my password has been compromised due to a data breach. This is the first I’ve ever heard of a data breach. Maybe the data breach happened because I downloaded the app? And then asked me if I would like to change my password. This is an excellent idea except when I tap the link to change the password it takes me to fanfic’s front page and I’m having trouble trying to find the area to actually change my password. Settings on the app is useless. It looks like I’m going to have to delete the app to actually go in to the website to change my password. The other issue I take offense with is the app has apparently issued me a default avatar which I do not care for. I have spent the last 15 minutes going in circles trying to figure out how to change it to another image. I cannot find where to do that and I so far cannot find any help area to give me instructions to change it.
the newest make every update story make all downloaded stories kept getting deleted all the tines and the update story it say no record pls fix this
