Six months ago I contacted a loan modification company, Fortified Financial, to help me with a loan modification as I work full time and cannot spend my days on the phone. They charged my credit card $3000. Four months later they got an "offer" from my mortgage company that was actually higher (about $100) than my current mortgage payment! Despite repeated phone calls to Fortified Financial and many emails, no explanation was given other than, "This has to be a mistake." About a month later, another offer arrived that was exactly the same as the first. That was two months ago. My contract with Fortified Financial specifically states that I will receive my money back if they can't save me at least 10%. I have politely asked for a refund. No response. I've called many people and sent many emails to people in the company and have gotten no response. It would have been easier and quicker myself to deal with the mortgage company. And now it looks like I'll have to sue Fortified Financial, file a formal complaint with the state, call the local news channel complaint watchdog, and contact the Better Business Bureau...as well as modify my own loan. (Sigh) I wish there were more competent and honest people out there.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I work for fortified financial and have personally seen the ups and downs of the company. They honestly know what they are doing and work hard for each customer. I apologize that this happened to you and if you are entitled to a refund then I would think that you should get it.
If anyone has questions about getting a Loan Modified then they can call me at [protected].
Fortified Financial sucks! I worked there... It’s a friend and family company. And I can say they promise one thing and will do another... They promise integrity but yet they have none...
Fortified financial must be having problems. they just cut everones pay at out office. we are told not to talk about it or we will get fired. what a great place to work!
I had the exact same problem with Fortified. I sued them in small claims court on Friday and won a judgment for the full amount but can't get them to return my calls or my money. I even believe the initial connection with them was a scam but don't know for sure. Someone called pretending to be interested in buying my home but said I would have to get a loan mod first in order for them to afford it. She worked in a lease to own branch of Fortified and her boyfriend worked in the loan mod branch of Fortified. Wow! What a coincidence! Money back guarantee, no risk...and no money, no returned calls, no answers. If someone from Fortified approaches you grab your wallet and run!
Wow. what people wont go through to get there story told. I was with Fortified Financial and they saved my home and my financial life. My payment went from 3280.00 to 1268.00 they called me every week to let me know where I was at and my mentor Carley was so nice she walked me and my wife through the entire way. With any company they have good and bad. but all I can say is with the amount of people they have working there they must be helping a lot of people and to still have a A- rating with BBB and only a few complaints on here they must be doing something right. At least this is all Ive found by searching there name. Anyways I'm sorry for the outcome of your home however I know Ive been taken care of and so has the families I referred. It is really hard to find a company that cares and does what they say they will do. Truly a gem to hold onto.
I was doing freelance work for Fortified (obtaining clients and advertisement).
My last just paycheck bounced and its gone several weeks being unresolved... [redacted] here I come!
Run from these people, I also was once employed by Fortified, they are well intentioned and want to do the right thing, but at this time are not capable of doing so. Everyones checks are bouncing and [censor] is hitting the fan Good Luck All
Good intentions are not part of their game plan. They are appealing my case because they have no money and their appeal has no merit. They are just dragging in out incurring more legal fees than what they owe me. There is no integrity or honesty happening here. I am betting that the positive comments written by "goodforfortified" were written by David Moffit or one of his crew. You can sue them, but they won't pay.. HOW DOES ANYONE GET ANY JUSTICE WITH ALL OF THE SCAM ARTISTS OUT THERE?.
We also paid Fortified Financial to modify our loan in December - It is now July and still nothing has been done. They modified our loan higher and told me that this was a great deal and i should take it - Are you serious? Then when I told them no way they agreed it was not the best option. They called me with the lender on the line to go over financials and I told them I'm not working right now because I'm temporarily disabled - Fortified asked the lender if we should just wait until I went back to work and then resubmit - I spoke up and said that they needed to recalculate and that it looks like I'm now eligible for the government program - well the lender did and sure enough we were! I was so upset that we got the "terms" not Fortified - isn't that what we are paying them for? Anyways we have had problem after problem with them and they REFUSE to give our money back. We have filed a complaint with the better business bureau and are trying to get things worked out that way but we do have all the paperwork filled out to sue them in small claims. We had a meeting with them and David Moffit was suppose to be a key player - he never showed! I feel sorry for those of us who trusted someone to help us and ended up where we are now -- What happened to all the honest people? Good Luck all!
I paid Fortified Financial in January to modify my mortgage. It is now July and my modification progress has not changed at all.
When I told Fortified that I had worked out a refinance with my bank, they called my bank to get the details and claimed that they had power of attorney and tried to file the papers to refinance. Thankfully my bank called me and said that they would not work with them because they do not have power of attorney. I called Fortified to remind them that I hired them to MODIFY my mortgage not REFINANCE and that they would not be taking credit for my merits! They acted all surprised that I knew what they were trying to do.
I started fighting for a refund and of course, no one will return any of my phone calls. After weeks of this my wife got fed up, went to their corporate office and said that she would not leave until she spoke to either Lei or Jill. They threatened to file a restraining order against her!
We eventually got a refund check but, they told us not to cash it because they had no money. When they did tell us that we could cash the check it bounced! Zions bank told me that they will not accept any more checks from Fortified Financial.
I've been calling for weeks now to try to get another check. Surprise, surprise, no one will talk to me or return my call.
I filed a complaint with the BBB 3 weeks ago. I haven't seen it show up on their site yet.
RUN FROM THIS FRAUDULANT COMPANY!
Wow! sounds like we should all file suit together! No wonder they won't honor their money back guarantee - they even admitted that we got the terms and then went and talked to David Moffit and came back and changed their story - what a scam - As far as them having an A- score on the Better Business Bureau - they have a lot of complaints for only being a member since December! I wish they would just be honest- Karma sucks and it looks like they are getting hit hard!
I attended a fencesitter meeting because I have been shopping around for a company that can do my loan modification. It is the only option I am willing to consider right now. I've weighed 3 of the companies and checked out the complaints, BBB and what other comments have been made regarding all 3 companies. I'm inclined to go with Fortified Financial because they actually have people who are willing to meet with you or even Skype if you are not able to come in. They are a little steep when it comes to cost but I tried to do this on my own already and it cost me my marriage and sanity and I kept getting the run around from my bank. I would just rather it take forever and have Fortified keep everything together, turn in my docs for me and just let me know when they need me to sign something or to make a decision. I have 5 properties that need a modification and Fortified seems like the only company that is willing to take it on because some of my properties have complications. They have issues with phones but I walked in and realized their staff is very professional and they are trying very hard to keep homes in review. There is a lot of negative press about Fortified but not enough about what I saw on the board of terms regarding families who got great terms. I know that every company is going through financial hard times and I was told straight up by the agent that Fortified was not exempt but that the families took precedence over profit. The only reason I decided to go with Fortified is because they were the only company that could show me their results and were straight up about how much it cost, how long it might take and what to expect. How come the other companies can't do that?
Oh, VaughnnHope, in the immortal words of Styx - "You're fooling yourself if you don't believe it." Ask them specifically about why they don't actually give refunds, even when it is court ordered. I really wish you the best of luck. If there is a nice easy loan mod to be had maybe they can do something. All I know - for a fact - is that I was lied to multiple times and that their guarantee is not worth the paper I wipe with.
It's very true - their word doesn't mean anything. They had told us many different things and didn't hold up to their end of the bargain but still refuse to give us our money back even though it is truly deserved. I would not give them another dime! I hope that you realize what you are getting your self into.
David Moffit Suck, he is a fake person, he does not care about the clients, he asked like he does, but he is full of BS

Is there any way we can sue them together - rather than individually? The Better Business Bureau just keeps giving Fortified Financial extensions when they fail to respond by the given date. It was stated that if I didn't respond by my given date that it meant I agreed with Fortified's rebuttal and the case was considered closed. Apparently it doesn't work that way when the business does not respond. I was thinking that instead of the bbb - we should all complain to the FTC - if the FTC receives enough complaints the government will step in. I am filing small suit against them and if anyone knows if we can just sue them together as a team - please let me know. It is apparent that they don't care about their clients and that they do NOT honor their money back guarantee. I hope that people research this company before signing up with them - and hopefully save them some money, time and heartache. Good luck everyone!
Anyone that wants to can show up 11:30 am at the Orem court on Friday the 13th of August. That's when I'll be having my trial de novo since they appealed their loss. Bring a reporter or 2, lunch, popcorn, maybe some billboards showing your love and respect for how well they have treated everyone.
I think if everyone got together we could do a class action lawsuit complete with punitive damages and attorneys fees included.
Oh man! I wish that I could be there. We are going out of town that day. I hope everything goes well for you. I think that would should hire a lawyer - does anyone know a good one? One that is not shady? I think we are all tired of working with shady people. We are losing our house - thanks to Fortified! Have they honored their refund policy for anyone? I think we need to get together and stop them from doing this to anyone else. Has anyone thought about Get Gephardt? Class Action Lawsuit? Let me know if anyone has any ideas on where to go from here. ElmoSunset - Have you contacted the media about your case? Let me know if there is anything we can do to help - I'm filing small claims sometime this week- just got Fortified's response from the BBB. They are incredibly ridiculous.
I talked to Gephardt. Pretty much a [censored]. They want something that is totally a slam dunk with an easy payback where they can look like a hero. He told me that the fact that they are appealing it meant that they thought they had a good case and that was enough doubt for him.
Fortified messed me and my family over. Promised to get me loan modifications on 2 homes or my money back. By the time Fortified finally contacted the 2nd Mortgage company the loan was already sent to collections (4 months later!). And now the collections wont deal on a short sale and now we face forclosure. Don't ever do a loan modification, EVER! The banks aren't willing to help and the loan mod companies just want your money. (Hope Fortified can feel good about messing over a family with a 5 year old that needs a Heart Transplant...Jerks...).
They have put in a defense motion and delayed my court date to 9/16/10. As if that is going to help them. It's pretty cut and dry. Just ask the last judge.
What does it mean that they put in a defense motion? They aren't honoring anyone's money back guarentee. We to are losing our house - thanks to them! I can't believe that they can even look at themselves in the mirror. Where is the integrity? From what I understand - the company is not doing well and they put most of the people on commision and most of them walked out - I also understand that they are not giving out refunds as we can all see. When they finally decided to respond to the BBB this is all that they wrote: "Ms Adamson informed us that she was also filing a small claims suit. We are willing to go to court because of the work that was performed on Ms. Adamson's behalf. We are able to prove the extent of the work performed on her file. It is unfortunate that her home will go to foreclosure but she should have accepted her modification terms. We feel that we would have been able to assist Ms, Adamson but she chose to request a refund despite all of the work performed on her behalf thus also pulling her file. We have closed her file and will not issue a refund for this file. " The sad thing is in the contract it is a satisfaction guarentee not a "how much work" we have put into this guarentee. I can't believe these people. Please contact me - I am pretty sure we are going to have to go bigger than small claims! Oh and I did accept my modification terms that later got denied - in the prior response Fortified said "We believe that our goal is to reach a successful outcome for each client which we did for the Adamsons (demonstrated by the accepting of the terms)but we cannot and will not refund the funds paid for the work performed." In my opinion these statements contradict themselves?
They appealed the judgment that they lost in small claims court and then they put in a motion to postpone. It gives them an extra month. It is just one more scam to add to their lack of integrity. There seriously out to be a way to bring criminal charges against them rather than just the civil suits they are getting hit with. There should be jail time. Fraud. That is a criminal charge. I'm thinking that it out to go to the officials.
What can we do? I completely agree with you. Who can we go to? It's too bad that not only do we lose our homes but also our $3000.00 and our trust in people.
I am really happy I read these comments. My family has just recently become delinquent with our home and thought it would be a good idea to get a loan modification. I googled modifications Utah and added my phone info to their website. A few hours later someone contacted me and asked that we meet with their company later that week. After meeting with Fortified Financial we felt good but still had a bad feeling about it. My parents suggested I look Fortified up on the internet to see if any comments have been made regarding their business. Sure enough, here I am feeling even more scared than after meeting with them. Luckily, I have not paid them any money or signed any documents yet. I better just back out now before I lose my money and my house.
Everyone that has had a problem with Fortified Financial needs to complain to the Federal Trade Commission. There number is [protected]. If they get enough complaints similar in nature they can file a class action law suit on our behalves. Please call them!
i am a former employee of Fortified at the St Geroge office.(as much as I hate to admit it ) As clients, i hope you understand that there were many employees who were on your side and fighting tooth and nail with corporate for the modifications and refunds you deserve. There were alot of us who got wind of what was happening and walked as soon as we realized what we were a part of. I can tell you that if you were working with the St. George office and you are looking for info on fortified I am MORE than willing to talk to you. Not only are they denying refunds, but they were bouncing pay roll checks and then buying brand new BMWs. mysteriousjohndoe27@gmail.com if there is anything I can do to help. There were alot of you as clients I was hoping to keep in touch with.
I too have apparently been scammed by Fortified Financial (office out of Lehi). I was referred to them by a former employee who gave her work that this was a legit company. I originally made contact with their office in April and gave them a personal check in the amouth of $1250.00. They gave the promise/guarantee that if after looking at my application they could not help me drop my house payment through a remodification they would not even cash my check. Well, they immediately cashed my check. As of today's date not one thing has been done to get me into a lower house payment. I have repeatedly tried contacting their office and management by phone and by email and get no response. I have repeatedly complained about not being able to contact anyone, lack of communication and not being happy with their promised service. I have received one rejection letter from my lender and one offer of a higher payment than it is now. At one point I was left a message by an employee at Fortified stating that my house was going to auction the next day, which was absolutely not true... which put me through an unbelievable amount of stress and caused me to miss work. I have put my faith in this company that they have been working on my behalf with my lender and now I believe that the whole thing has been a lie. I had not heard anything from the company since August 6th (when I had to update my information with the for the 3rd or 4th time) so I tried calling... no answer. Tried email... no response. Then, out of the blue, I received an email from someone at the company that I have never heard of stating that I had voided the contract with them by not paying the 2nd half of the payment I owed them in the amount of $1250.00. I had not paid that 2nd amount since they had not done anything to help me.. it was never brought up again until the email. The email also stated that my file had been put on hold and would not be reinstated without another payment from me... among other things. I contacted their office yesterday and finally after calling and calling got through to a real person who put me in contact with the person who I had received the email from. We had quite a few words about the email, none of which were nice from me. She told me I was not entitled a refund and that my file was on hold. When I threatened to contact the better Business Bureau her tune changed a little bit and promised that she would immediately get with her supervisor and talk about my file and have that supervisor call me back. She also told me that if I did not hear back from anyone by this morning to call her back. Well, surprise surprise no one contacted me. This morning I have called every number I could find for their office in Lehi and all of them are "no longer in service". I cannot believe any of this... the stress of facing foreclosure is bad enough alone, but now to think I am also out of $1250.00 that I could not afford to be out in the first place, just makes me sick! I have contacted the Federal Trade Commission and was also told to contact the Consumer Protection Office at [protected]. Everyone, if you have had any problems with this company at all... contact everyone you can about them!
Another note... I contacted the Consumer Protection Office who said I needed to contact the Division of Real Estate at [protected].
I just called the Division of Real Estate and they suggested that I fax my complaint to [protected] with a detailed letter and any supporting documents. I mentioned this website and told the person I was speaking with that I was shocked about all the complaints I am reading about which are similar to mine. I hope Fortified can be stopped before they take any more money from people who are already facing financial hardships. Taken Advantage of ...Again
I think that we should all band together and hire an attorney and go after David Moffit for fraud. I want my money back, my peice of mind back - I'm already losing my house thanks to them. What is David Moffit losing? His business - maybe because he didn't do what he said he was going to do - thats not good enough for me - Why isn't he losing his house like the rest of us? Maybe he should be put in jail for what he has done to us! I will definately fax my complaint over to the department of real estate ASAP! We need to stick together on this one. For those of us who are now losing our homes - we need our money back so we can afford a deposit and first months rent. I am so sorry for anyone who has to go through this.
I am dealing with them, too. Unbelieveable. Hit every Youtube account, linked in comment page or blog roll you can find and comment. At least it will get the word out so people in the future don't get rooked.
We went through Fortified. What a big mistake. We had several processors, and no one ever knew anything. When I requested our refund, we were told you would have it in 30 days or less. Low and behold no refund. I had several e-mail correspondance with Lei. Yes you are intitled to a refund. We just ask for patience. My patience ran out. We sued them in August, and they tried to tell us we did not meet their agreement. Fortunately, I kept everything. The judge ruled in our favor, and the office manager in St George Ut. office told us to file garnishment papers against them. We did and got a response from the Zions Bank. ACCOUNT CLOSED... Fortified and its owner David Moffit is stealing from its clients. Our daughter's inlaws hired them. There house went in to forcloseure. Fortified said they would take care of it. Guess what their house was sold out from underneath them, as they did not follow up. STAY AWAY FROM FORTIFIED, I AM FILING A COMPLAINT WITH THE STATE ATTORNEY GENRALS OFFICE.
ANYONE WANTS TO FILE A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT, WE NEED TO GET TOGATHER, AS THEY HAVE CLOSED THERE OFFICE IN ST GEORGE.
Dont leave out Dave moffit family. Jill she isthe one bouncing check.
fortified financial bounces more checks the the ball bounces in a NBA game
Fortified Financial should be shut down ASAP... and the Owners should go to jail for all the lies and money taken
the owner still have there homes and your money... scam
Surprise Surprise... Dave Moffitt owns his home free and clear. We are another victim of this disaster that the Company created.
