Totally Incompetent Employees
Order ID: GCB2C_3894965 December 14th, I ordered five gift certificates to be given as Christmas gifts. I opened them to make sure the correct amount was on each one. One of them was wrong ($25. instead of $100.). I called customer service, only to hear a message stating that they don't work on weekends. I was surprised since it was the holiday season and it was an online store only. I called them on Monday to get the gift certificates corrected and resent. I told the representative that I would like it sent directly to the gift recipient so they can get it by Christmas. They ignored my request and sent the gift card to me, so that gift was late. My three grandchildren came to visit and they each received a gift card for Christmas. I guess this company doesn't pay the employees a decent salary because they never checked to see if they were making the gift cards out to the correct address or person. The first card had my grandson Jake typed on the front of the card but on the inside it had my other grandson Steven typed in. The second card was typed the opposite way. The third gift card should have been sent to Jonathan, but was sent to "Seester from Andy", with a nice message of brotherly love written in! I bought another gift card for my son-in-law and the front of the card has both our names on it. This is not the first year that I had a problem with this company, but I decided to give them another chance. They ran out of chances. This is just total incompetence on gift certificates.com's part.
deceitful practices
DO NOT ORDER from giftcertificates.com. They're a shady company with horrid customer service, and practice deceitful methods of getting and keeping your $$$.
I needed a gift for this weekend, so i placed an order on Wednesday at 4p ET and selected overnight shipping. There was absolutely no information on the website about cutoff times for overnight shipments. But, i figured that even if it did not go out Wednesday, it would be shipped Thurs and i would have it on Friday. Which would be in plenty of time for the weekend bday party where i would be giving the substantial gift.
Well, Friday comes and goes and nothing arrived. Apparently, there is a signature required for all overnight shipments. Signature...at a home address...during normal business hours on a weekday. Who is going to be home on a weekday to sign for a package?
This is never mentioned during the order process and can be found only by diving deep into a very unfriendly FAQ section on their website. If they would simply have a warning prominently displayed on the site that states signature is required, i would've had it shipped to my office. But instead, they would rather just get the order any way possible.
To top it off, on Friday afternoon i asked them to simply cancel the order, deactivate the gift card #, and refund my money (minus shipping costs). They wouldn't do it. No explanation, no reasons. They simply said they would not cancel or modify the order in any way.
Now they are going to have a chargeback, arbitration, and an attorney general's case on their hands. Instead of simply canceling the order, they decided to try and keep my $$$ (hundreds of dollars).

Do not use this merchant
I ordered gift certificates for Omaha Steaks through
Giftcertificates.com in Jan 05. Certificates were received via email
the next day. However I soon found out that Omaha Steak does not allow
the use of the certificates on their site or normal phone number. You
have to order through a dedicated site. This site does not carry all
the specials and is significantly more expensive than the normal site
Their is nothing on the site to inform you of this. You find out AFTER
you get the certificates
I contacted them through their email link and filled out their order
cancellation form. I received an email reply saying you cannot cancel
an order
I will never use this merchant again and am stopping payment .

The worst experience I have had
I have used this company for many years but starting last year, service and competence has gone down hill.
I made the mistake of giving them one more chance this year, starting earlier by two weeks. Not good enough.
They printed all 18 of them with my name in the blue border so it is invisible. Giving a gift without anyone knowing it is from me.
I was on the phone with them for hours yesterday trying to get this printed a 3rd time since the 2nd round, they only reprinted 3 of the 18 and those too all had the same problem as first batch! No one even looked at them before leaving their order center. They could not get any emails from me at either of two email addresses I used in case one was a problem - I happen to be a computer consultant so this is my area of expertise. They could not send me emails either or so they said they were sending as I never got anything from the supervisors or staff who wanted to correct the info.
They missed the cut off time to get me delivery in next two days so they might be able to fix it and get to me now a week late. I am hoping to get a refund now since I have no faith they can fix it and it is too late anyway.
Bottom Line: Most staff are nice but the company obviously has no clue on how to run a business anymore or do not care or both. You are asking for trouble.
RUN AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY UNLESS YOU LIKE PAIN, BEING FRUSTRATED AND CAN START OVER A MONTH IN ADVANCE OF WHEN YOU NEED PRODUCT. Totally unreliable, totally in over their heads with technology that does not work.
Find another solution for your gift needs like I am now forced to do. If you have had no problems, consider yourself lucky but the odds are you will and for a high tech company they do not know how to do the job.

Deceptive product description
Deceptive product description. BE CAREFUL with this merchant, as they make no efforts to handle legitimate complaints, and will not refund money spent on misrepresented products. THEY SHOW A PRODUCT THAT THEY DON'T OFFER AND GIVE NO REFUNDS! Today, I was told by giftcertificates.com customer service that even though their website may be deceptive, that the small print and disclaimer exists and they do not give refunds.
This is what happened:
Gift Certificates.com features categories and merchants in which a consumer can purchase a gift card for a specific denomination. I was given a gift certificate for giftcertificates.com in a $100 denomination. I opted to purchase a gift card from Dick's Sporting Goods because they have a store nearby. Dick's Sporting Goods has two types of gift cards that they photo depict on their website: One is a physical card that features their logo with a baseball background.
This card may be redeemed in their stores as well as online. I have used these cards, and this is what giftcertificates.com features on their website. Even though this is the card featured at GiftCertificates.com, THIS IS NOT THE CARD THAT YOU GET! What you get is a 'certificate' that is limited only to online purchases. This is a huge limitation, and would not have been my option, had this product been honestly described.
This could easily be corrected by giftcertificates.com, but they have no intention on correcting this, because it's more profitable to entice customers by featuring this card that isn't even available through them.
They could easily correct this:
On the Dick's Sporting Goods website, there is also an 'online only' gift certificate that may be redeemed only online. This has its own logo that doesn't feature the Dick's Logo and has the word Online. Pretty clear. This logo should be featured on the giftcertificates.com site, but it wouldn't generate as much business and product recognition as the store card; so that's the one they feature.
The 'online only' card is very limited, in that you get no physical card. The stores not only do not accept the 'certificate', but don't take returns from online purchases made using this 'certificate'. Why anybody would limit themselves to this type of certificate is beyond me.
If you're not comfortable with 'what you see is NOT what you get', stay away from giftcertificates.com.

Bad service
Horrible, horrible, horrible. I placed an order for three gift cards each in the denomination of $50. It wasn't until a week and a half later that I found out the items were not available. I called to find out if my order had been received, i was told it had been, but that the items would not be available for at least another 10 business days. Fine. I needed that specific card. That was almost 2 and a half weeks ago. I finally got an email today telling me that they had shipped. Maybe I will get them by the end of August. I also tried to order gift cards to online merchant tigerdirect.com. Nope, dont have those either. customer service was fine, but i had to call to find out that my order was not available. hows sending me an email or something.
