Government Employees Medical Scheme [GEMS] review: Poor service and incompetence

Good day. The past few days revealed how incompetent Gems really is. No wonder the average rating is 1.37 out of 10.

I am waiting for more tan 3 months for my refund from contributions. At first they said: 1 The refund will come with my August salary

2. The payroll was closed it will com in the first week of September, after the reconcilliation. Then the said the reconcilliation was done it will come in the first week of Octasober,

3. Today the told me that I will be paid within 10 to 14 working days, after the reconcilliation.

This is bad service. You can't manage a medical aid scheme like a spaza shop.

The employees are unhelpfull. Please train them.

Most of Gems employees will never survive at a professional medical aid like Discovery or Fedhealth. Please train you staff

Secondly my doctor, a diabetic specialist and head of the diabetic centre at the Rubicon centre in Witbank applied and motivated that I must urgently be put on Duforzig. He went as as far as to attached his qualification on the application and proof registration with HPCA as an Independent Practice specialist. He even went furthe an attachedhis qualifications from the university of South Wales. He obtained a Masters degree in Diabetic management in 2010.

He will not change his practiice number because it will lead to increace charges for his patience witout medical aid, and even for those on a lower option.

The diabetic centre have a reputation as a centre of excellence. People are flocking from all over Mpumalanga to the Diabetic center.

My sister, also a person living with diabetes is also a patient of Dr Lombard, Her medical aid, Bonitas does not have a problem approving the medication. Even the dynamic discovery don't have a problem approving medication, It is only Gems.

The past 2 days I spend more than 4 hours on the line with Gems consultants trying to explain the situation. Gems closed the inquiry without a thorough investigation.

The insist DR Lombard is not a specialist. He submitted his qualification with the application. The last 3 pages deal with his registration and qualification
