Purchased 8 replacement windows less than 6 years ago. Over the last 3 years at least one of the windows has suffered a broken seal and mold is growing in between the dual panes of glass.
Great Lakes does send out replacement glass but I'm responsible for the cost of getting the new glass installed in the vinyl frame. They don't send a complete, ready to install pane.
3 of 8 windows (so far) is a horrible failure rate and I just hope to keep other prospective window buyers from purchasing the same low quality product I'm now stuck with.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I moved into a home that had purchased windows from this company and they had a transferable warranty. A month after i moved in i noticed two windows that were broken, one wouldn't stay up and the other the latches fell off. I have called the company and left messages 5 times (the 1st time i was on hold for an hour) i finally got an email but am still not able to get anywhere with talking to somone on the phone

so they finally sent a rep to see the problem with my doors - he (George?) acknowledged the problem and said he would get back to me later in the day - that was a month ago - many calls have gone unanswered - stay away!

I live in Southern California and in January 2001 we replaced all 11 of our contractor aluminum framed windows from the 1960's with Great Lakes Windows. A little overkill, maybe, I wanted windows that I would not have to replace again. My sister at the time worked for Pella in Ohio and I could have gotten a hell of a deal but liked the Great Lakes window and warranty better, and yes they cost a fortune.
Contractor was a joke, had to sue them, bad experience and they blamed all of the problems on Great Lakes. Well, when I started to call Great Lakes to sort out my issues I found them to be absolutely delightful to deal with. All the parts my contractor had told me for months were on back order or unavailable were shipped from Ohio and in my hands in 2 weeks.
In the ensuing 15 years Michelle in CS has been a joy to work with and has never once hesitated to go above and beyond to solve any and every issue no matter how small. I am sorry some of you have had problems and I understand it could get very frustrating but I can not speak highly enough of Great Lakes Windows quality and their willingness to go the extra mile even 15 years after the install.
We purchased Uniframe windows in 2004. The two windows in our bedroom {upper and lower panes} have lost gas and have something growing in between the glass. They are warranted by GLW in Toledo, Ohio. I wrote them and they only sent the upper panes. I have wrote them two other times about the lower panes needing replaced also because of gas loss. It has been over four months since I last wrote them and sent pictures to show the mold growing inside the windows. We have not received the replacement window panes for the two windows in our bedroom or any reason why!
These windows are supposed to be warranted for the buyer {which we are} and the second owner of the home.
I think it is bad business practice to only send the panes and the customer has to foot the bill to have the glass installed.
We are a SMALL family contracting company that took on the Great Lakes Eco smart line, and sold thousands of their windows. We originaly decided to sell their product because, in our initial meeting we were promised by Great Lakes channel manager "Ralph Piffer" that they would pay (reimburse) our company for any service labor we incured fixing their factory defects, broken seals, cracked frames, Windows shipped with absolutely no quality control. Example if you were a factory guy looking at a sliding glass door at the factory and one side of the door had colonial grids or grills and the other side had plane glass, don't you think you would say "something ain't right here". In any case we have spent over a hundred and twenty thousand dollars servicing their products, trying to keep our name good and our customers from getting burned. As of today we have received about eight thousand in service fees. If you would like more information, feel free to call, John at Well built exteriors Boise, Idaho.
Is any one else having problems with the "Tilt-N-Slde or the swing n clean window falling out damaging your feet or hard wood floors because the hardware is defective? Just saying could be a class action lawsuit
We have several hundreds of customers that would love to join a class action against PlY GEM, GREAtT LAKES
