Scam with Bait & Switch
I recently booked a stay at Powderhorn unit A205 in Breckenridge, Colorado, through Great Western Lodging from February 1st to February 4th. for a guys trip with 5 individuals. Unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory.
First and foremost, the unit was misrepresented on their website. Great Western Lodging claimed that the unit could sleep five individuals separately, but upon arrival, it was evident that it only slept four. The discrepancy between what was advertised and the reality of the accommodations was incredibly frustrating.
Furthermore, the photos on their website were misleading. The pictures depicted two beds in the master bedroom, yet upon arrival, there was only one. This inconsistency in the representation of the unit further exacerbated the disappointment of our stay.
When I reached out to Great Western Lodging to address these issues, the response I received was utterly unprofessional. The individual who answered the phone, supposedly the manager named Conner, was rude and dismissive. Instead of acknowledging the misrepresentation and attempting to rectify the situation, Conner resorted to arguing and deflecting blame. He insisted that buried in the fine print of the listing, it mentioned the unit had only four beds. However, the primary description clearly stated it sleeps five separately, and the provided images showed five beds. Despite my attempts to reason with him, Conner showed no concern for our dissatisfaction and made no effort to assist us further.
I requested to speak with his superior, General Manager, Erin McGrain, only to be informed that she was unavailable, with no indication of when she might return. Despite leaving my contact information and specifically requesting a callback from Erin, she never bothered to reach out.
In a last-ditch effort to address my concerns, I contacted the company's Regional VP, Josh Marquis. Regrettably, my email went unanswered, demonstrating a complete lack of regard for customer satisfaction or resolution of issues.
Overall, my experience with Great Western Lodging was extremely disappointing. The company's blatant misrepresentation of their accommodations, coupled with their dismissive and unprofessional response to my concerns, has left me thoroughly dissatisfied. I will not be returning to this establishment in the future and would caution others against renting from them.
Recommendation: Don't Trust Them!
I stayed at Great Western Lodging and it was pretty good
I stayed at Great Western Lodging and it was pretty good. The place was clean and cozy. But, there was no one to talk to when I had some questions. I tried to call and email them, but no response. It's a bummer because I wanted to ask about some activities in the area. Overall, it was a decent stay, but the lack of communication was a letdown.
This company is a total scam!
This company is a total scam! Don't rent from them. I made reservations in April to stay at *** for 6 nights, but they just cancelled my reservation. They said the owner forgot to block out that week for his 80th birthday. I got a great deal on this house, but they cancelled and tried to put us in a condo that wasn't even close to being "comparable". This smells like the old "Bait and Switch"! Be careful if you're renting from them!
So, I had a booking with Great Western Lodging for a week's stay in a condo in Breckenridge from 3/29-4/5
So, I had a booking with Great Western Lodging for a week's stay in a condo in Breckenridge from 3/29-4/5. But then, the coronavirus happened and the town closed down for social distancing. Great Western Lodging cancelled my booking, which was worth $2000, and they didn't offer me a refund. They said they had to "protect their business." I checked their cancellation policy, and it said that if I cancelled too late, I would lose my deposit or the entire fee, depending on the date. But it didn't say that they could cancel and keep my money. I think that's super dishonest. I've been trying to call and email them, but they're not responding.
Great Western Lodging ain't givin' back the money we paid for a house we rented from March 18-23, 2020 in Breckenridge Colorado
Great Western Lodging ain't givin' back the money we paid for a house we rented from March 18-23, 2020 in Breckenridge Colorado. The ski resort done shut down, and the mayor and city council done said on their website that "People who ain't in Summit county should plan not to come into the county". Lots of restaurants and stores ain't open neither. This is a crazy time and Great Western Lodging should do the right thing and give us our money back! Coronavirus is no joke and we gonna respect the request to stay away.
Few years back, I tried to get my money back from my credit card after staying at Great Western Lodging
Few years back, I tried to get my money back from my credit card after staying at Great Western Lodging. I had to pay the full amount with my credit card before the stay and also bought their travel insurance because my friend and I had elderly parents. However, I didn't receive the 28-page policy until after our trip. Unfortunately, we had a breakdown - my friend's transmission went out. We had to be towed back to Salina, KS and wait until the car dealership opened on Monday (this was Saturday) to diagnose the problem. Then, we had to be towed back to Kansas City. I called Great Western Lodge from the side of the interstate when we first broke down, but they refused to return any of my money. Their travel insurance was also bogus and wouldn't pay because it was a breakdown and not a wreck. It wouldn't have paid even if one of our parents had to be hospitalized and was really sick - it only paid if there was a death in the immediate family. It seems like they have had plenty of bad ratings, so hopefully, others won't be duped by them.
We was gonna stay with Great Western for 2 weeks but then the stupid coronavirus ruined everything
We was gonna stay with Great Western for 2 weeks but then the stupid coronavirus ruined everything. We been staying with them for like 10 years and sometimes we go twice in a season for like 2-3 weeks each time. At first they was good but now they got new people running things and the service is not good and unprofessional. We only kept going back cause we like one of the units but even that had problems. Great Western won't give us our money back, only a credit for next year but we might not even be able to come cause of the stupid pandemic. Maybe travel will still be messed up or we just won't feel like going. Who are they to say we gotta vacation with them next year? They took our money for nothing and won't even say sorry or answer our emails. They say they need to protect their small business but we all trying to survive right now. They took $4,000 from us and it feels like they stole it. We ain't going back to Great Western, there's other places to stay that treat us better. Don't stay with them, find somewhere else.

Me and my fam were supposed to stay at one of Great Western Lodging's places during Thanksgiving week
Me and my fam were supposed to stay at one of Great Western Lodging's places during Thanksgiving week. But, dang it, four of us got exposed to COVID. We tried to change the date of our reservation so we could keep the rest of the fam safe, especially since some of us are high risk. We even said we'd pay more for a different holiday week. But Chris at Great Western Lodging said no way. I'm so mad we spent $3K and now we can't even go. I wasn't even asking for my money back, just to move the dates. The travel insurance I got from *** doesn't cover COVID and WGL didn't offer any insurance. This is such a bummer and a waste of money. Don't stay here! They'll rip you off during this pandemic!
Great Western Lodging told us on March 14 that we couldn't get our money back because of COVID-19
Great Western Lodging told us on March 14 that we couldn't get our money back because of COVID-19. So we had to stay two nights before we could leave. On March 31, they said we could get a credit and book the same place for the same amount of time between June 1 and April 30. But when we tried to book, they only gave us credit for three nights and charged us $202.93 more. I'm glad they gave us credit, but they shouldn't have lied before.
Me and my wife booked with Great Western Lodging for 4 nights from 12.9.2021- 12.13.2021
Me and my wife booked with Great Western Lodging for 4 nights from 12.9.2021- 12.13.2021. We added one more night- 12.8.2021 later. But then my wife got Covid-19 and we had to cancel. We asked for a refund but they said no because we didn't get travel insurance. We asked for a manager's email and they offered a credit for another date. But when we picked a date, it was way more expensive. I also have Covid-19 symptoms but tested negative. We asked for a refund but they said no. We want our money back - $2690.90.

I book a unit with Great Western Lodging on 11/26
I book a unit with Great Western Lodging on 11/26. I paid $2971.66 for the down payment and the balance was to be paid by 1/22. We arrived on February 25-March 1st to a cold house with no drinking water in the house, except from the Faucet. The house was ice cold, the heating wasn't left on to warm the house upon our arrival. Only to find out they had to contact maintenance people to come. They didn't really understand the system was trying to heat a three level place. It wasn't explained to me on either of the fireplaces. Secondly, another maintenance person came, he seemed to know how to work the thermostat. The heat barely coming up from the floor vents. The second level where the three bedrooms were freezing, so what did they offer heaters, which they were prepared for use. Letting me know that they knew the heating wasn't working. Later to find out two of them stopped working. Hot water was few and between, I wanted to take a bath in my nice tube in the master bedroom, water only got warm. Same with the shower. Next, we couldn't get the stove top to cook. Of course, they never explained how it worked. Trying to cook on a temperamental stove. We ended up cooking in the microwave. The maintenance people didn't know how to help us. My fireplace in the master bedroom could not be adjusted because it was stripped! My guest that came with me are still upset over this trip. I got a phone call from the couple today who are 72 and 73 years old she was historically angered over this trip and everything they went through. I told her I would try to get some of our money back. They said this was the worst trip, they have ever been on. I have to agree! I travel a lot and the accommodation I had to put up with were the worst! We paid $4,571.78 for this vacation. I am trying to get some or all our money refunded. This was my second trip to Breckenridge. So I have no plans on returning ever. So, I want a refund sent to me by a check. Confirmation #***.
Cancelling is a big no-no
Cancelling is a big no-no. I tried to talk to Great Western Lodging before my trip about the travel bans and COVID cases in Breckenridge, but it took forever to get a hold of someone. Finally, I talked to Chris and he said he'd try to help. But when I needed to reschedule because of the stay-at-home alert, they only offered me December, which didn't work for me. They wouldn't give me any credit or anything. I lost thousands of dollars and couldn't take my kids to Colorado. Chris wouldn't give me any other info or let me talk to someone else. Even the governor said not to travel, but they didn't care. I know businesses are struggling, but this isn't fair. I lost my whole vacation and it's not right. I hope they'll change their minds and let me try again in June.
