Guru Bad services & Bad quality

Following GURU.COM statement is all B.S and lies. ("Pay Only For A Job Well Done. Payment is simple and fast once you’re satisfied with the finished product. Use Safe-Pay for a risk-free guarantee. You pay us and we pay the freelancer only after you approve the work. It’s a secure, “win-win” arrangement for both sides. ")

Employers and hires have no say, after you deposited the money in SAFE-PAY with GURU.COM. No matter how bad the freelancers is, freelancer unprofessional, poor quality work, try to make you pay more after freelancer fixed price bid etc, etc, etc.

GURU.COM will side with the Freelancer so RUN while you can.

Guru Failure to help Employer with a dispute

I used Guru.com to hire a freelancer. I paid the freelancer 3, 000.00 for the first website, everything was fine. The company was hosting the website. A year later, I hired the same company http://www.guru.com/freelancers/mindblow-ideas-inc.
They designed another website for me, for another 2, 700.00. After a disagreement, the company (mindblow ideas) deleted both websites, and I'm left with a 5, 700.00 loss. I asked Guru.com to help and they haven't done a single thing. PLEASE DO NOT USE GURU.COM and DO NOT HIRE MINDBLOW IDEAS FOR ANYTHING. THESE COMPANIES ARE FRAUDS!

Guru Unethical

Guru is a site I used one time and will never use again. Anyone doing their research about guru.com, be very careful. You do not get legitimate reviews about the freelancers for hire, as the freelancers have the ability to "block" reviews. I hired a top recommended freelancer (Clicksy Creatives). The work I paid for was very low-quality. I requested a refund and was not issued a refund and then found out that freelancers can block bad reviews by paying for "blocking power." This system is set up so that you can be ripped off quite easily. I recommend hiring only in your country, especially those in the US. Use other more legitimate resources. Hell, even Craigslist is probably a better way to find people than Guru.com. This was the work done on Guru by CLICKSY CREATIVES

Guru Frozen Account

I am an employer on Guru.com and I used to have my projects done. I sent payment every time using my credit card and also using my paypal account
I even made my verification first time when i paid an invoice on guru. They suspended my account and reopened only after they have made the verification.
Since then I paid several invoices on guru using my paypal and now I got my account suspend AGAIN without any warning ( even i used the same payment method )
I send to Guru all the documents, a copy of my ID, a copy of my credit card, a print with my paypal account. They refuse to reopen my account and my freelancer wasnt paid !
They dont want to asnwer on eny of my emails. I filed a complain with Better Business Bureau also.

The worst service is on Guru.com
They ask for verification SECOND TIME...even i used the same payment method for the last two months.

Guru We will NEVER use them again

We did a project with a graphical designer for a shirt design, but the designer never delivered. However, guru.com assigned the escrow money to the designer. It is fatal for the trust of a website to touch the escrow money - we will NEVER use them again. We have using eLance for years with perfect results and the only two tries on guru.com were disastrous. It looks like the lousy freelancer work for guru.com. Just stay away from it.

Guru Guru.com allows coders to block negative feedback

Just wanted to let everyone know we lost 1000.00 on guru.com to a coder that lacked integrity. The most shocking thing was the fact that Guru.com allowed the coder, who they knew failed to uphold the project agreement and lacked integrity. This is the email that was posted by a manager named Stacy Norman.

"Good afternoon. I am the Manager of the Dispute Resolution Department at Guru.com. Stacy Norman is the Manager of User Support & Operations. I understand that you are uncomfortable with the Blocking Power feature on Guru.com and that you would prefer if our review system was more like vWorker's. I do appreciate your thoughts and suggestions on the matter, but we have no plans to alter our feedback system or eliminate the Blocking Power feature from our site. We chose to create a feature that sets us apart from other freelance marketplaces. Based on what we offer, it is up to you to decide if we are the best fit for your outsourcing needs. If we do not fit your needs, I am sorry that we will lose you as customer. If you decide to continue sourcing talent through Guru.com, I would highly recommend that you do not release payment to a Freelancer before receiving work that you are satisfied with in order to avoid a similar dispute in the future."

and another follow up email here.

"Please understand that we have no intention of taking any action against Infinity Mark. As Joe has repeatedly stated, if we see a negative pattern developing with any user, we take action. There is no negative pattern with Infinity Mark. This Freelancer has been with us for more than two years, has conducted roughly $200k in business and has very few complaints.

Please rest assured that we do take the feedback we receive from our users very seriously. It was such feedback that resulted in the creation of the blocking power option. The blocking power has done a lot to protect Freelancers and Employers from one-off negative experiences and unwarranted bad feedback.

Again, if you are not comfortable with how our site functions, you are free to use other venues. We fully understand that our service will not meet the needs of everyone that uses it.

We've repeatedly stated our position on this matter. If you have any other questions, we're happy to answer them. However, any additional communications regarding the feedback issue will be discarded. "

On the surface this may sound resonable, but this coder missed the deadline by more than a month, stood us up four times for scheduled walkthroughs and then delivered a very substandard product at the end in an attempt to keep the 1000.00 we released early. The coder told us over the phone that we would be protected that they would NEVER jeopardize their number #1 ranking with guru or risk a bad review, all the while knowing full well they could block it. The coder basically theived our money and guru stood idly buy and watched it happen, even taking up for the coder after it was done. To me the feedback option was our last bit of leverage to not only hold the coder accountable, but to also warn other consumers that this coder might be prone to doing such things in the future. I do not plan to ever use guru.com again. I thought at one time they had the best system, but it took me a while to figure out that all the coders seem to have 5 star reviews and no reviews that are negative. I think not posting reviews that are unbecoming defeats the purpose of an honest review and does not protect the consumer... gurus system is slanted towards the coder and ensuring that they "prosper" regardless of how they treat consumers in any one individual job. If you use Guru.com do so at your own RISK, if you are after honest reviews on a coder before you hire them, I would recommend going somewhere else, lest you find yourself out of hundreds even thousands of dollars down the road. Guru protects the people that butter their bread, make no mistake about it. The problem with that is we have the projects and the money to pay coders, I will not spend my money with guru.com again.

I absolutely agree guru.com is not at all a reliable site to get your job done. There are no true view of the ratings as freelancers block them with their blocking option. I have lost $300 where the freelancer promised to finish the project and never delivered. The guru team is also unhelpful stating the we cannot take action against one complain as he has many positive feedbacks. This does not sound right freelancer accumulates a few good ratings and he cheats some without being highlighted in the feedback, which to any new customer will not be able to show the negative responses. Please please do not use guru.com and trust the freelancers and never never pay any amount till you receive the project work, do not even pay even if they tell you we need it to start work, this is how I was conned and could never get my money back.

We are a client of Infinity Mark, and we've worked with Matt Gooding on numerous projects. I can tell you unequivocally that his and his team's ability to add value beyond any reasonable person's expectations is simply unmatched. These folks know their stuff. Infinity Mark has had literally hundreds of satisfied clients over the past four years. Despite the fact that we offer high quality Drupal development at the industry's lowest U.S. costs there are people out there who are so out of touch with reality that their expectations are simply unachievable. Brian Patters is a bogus name of someone we believe is a competitor we believe is simply attempting to smear our good name. We have reported this post to several law enforcement agencies as a cyber bullying crime. In terms of the original poster here, Arizona7, this is a guy for whom we delivered four different designs and completed a very feature rich site. His expectations were greater than clients for whom we have worked with projects with budgets of over $40k. It is laughable how someone who pays $1, 000 expects a company to dedicate resources to their every whim for months on end.

Infinity Mark prides itself on being a company that delivers high-quality solutions at incredibly reasonable price points. Don't be swayed by these bogus - anonymous posts.

Infinity Mark will thieve you of your money. DO NOT work with Matt Gooding at Infinity Mark or any of his team members. I tried to work with US based freelancers and it was a nightmare situation. I really understand why people outsource now and I don't need any more reasons after working with this team in Austin TX. AVOID working with Infinity Mark, you have been warned.

Guru.com use "SAFEPAY" to give buyers a false sense of security. They do not look at customers best interests but their own. After releasing payment despite the freelancer not being able to do the work or adhere to any time frames, close your account to prevent any negative feedback, which could warn new customers. "SAFEPAY" is NOT SAFE.

We must remember "Buyer Beware" in all of our conduct; unfortunate with writing, for example, we must also be "Seller Beware". I happens many times that written submissions are accepted, used in some manner, and the writer does not get paid. But in these cases, the ability of the provider to block negative response content; well, even with a "guarantee" that sounds a bit fishy. My attitude is be open and aboveboard, perform as promised, and most certainly do not accept payment until your work is fully accepted - and don't bid on projects that are really not completely within your area of expertise. Am I going to get stung? Of course I am, but I won't be doing business with that contracted anymore. Besides, I am of the belief that someone who steals from me will be stolen from as well; but I have gained the experience and portfolio. I have found that ratings really mean very little, because each project has its own character.

Same here. A freelancer wouldn't adhere to deadlines multiple times in a row so I left a negative feedback. Of course, they left a negative feedback to me in return. The problem is that I was knew to Guru so I didn't have the "blocking power" yet. The result? I got a negative feedback which was 100% UNDESERVED and they removed my negative feedback which was 100% DESERVED. I still can't understand how something so stupid as "blocking power" could be implemented into what seemed like a "perfect" outsourcing service. Now, the only thing employers ever had such as feedback does not anymore reflect the real quality of freelancers. Be careful about feedback on Guru. I couldn't understand why so many freelancers on the site had such a perfect feedback. Now things make perfect sense...

Guru Scam

I lost nearly $1, 000, after a projected estimated at 4 weeks, took SIX MONTHS, and still wasn't nearly complete. I disputed with guru.com who had my money in escrow, and they still awarded the money to the developer even though the site wasn't functional. I provided 10 examples of where the developer failed and it still wasn't enough for them. Avoid guru.com, and if you do use them, never pay anything in advance, and don't put any money in escrow.

I disputed a second project with my credit card and Amex saved me from losing another $500 on that.

Guru.com is useless.

sorry to hear that. As a contractor who works through Guru, I can tell you it's not much better from the other end either. I have clients who have you work on their project and then just disappear...Guru.com is awful! Along with most of the other freelance sites. I have been a graphic artist/web developer for over 13 years and now every kid who gets a copy of photoshop thinks they're a graphic designer. It has me trying to change careers, pretty sad. Guru and other freelance websites are just farms for marketers anyway.

Guru Do NOT trust Guru.com!

Guru.com
www.guru.com

Stacy Norman, about whom there is another complaint here, canceled my service provider account on Guru.com one fine day after a somewhat deranged former client decided that he wanted my services for free.

On Guru.com, employers post freelance projects they want done, scour through the responses and bids for the best deal, typically, and often attempt to avoid paying transaction fees passed on from the pro by bypassing the system and contacting the pro directly, claiming that this is how they found them. They will also reject the idea of doing their project on Guru.com because they find that the system is too cumbersome, or they don't want to pay the fee, etc. So, even if the client admits they found the pro on the site, they may not be willing to do the project via the system set up on the site itself. After actually consulting these idiots at Guru.com on their usability, I can understand why. Regardless, I had just such a client who found me on Guru.com, but contacted me directly and never mentioned Guru.com explicitly, set up and paid for his project, and we were off. Promises regarding the payment arrangement were broken by the client, the project scope was reduced after payment of the initial sum, and the project became less than what it was intended to be originally. I fulfilled my end of the project, using my associate to help with aspects that were tacked on only after the paltry money down was paid. The client began calling frequently to change the project scope and details, until it became sheer chaos. By the time I began to realize the client had some psychological problems, it was a several weeks later. I tried to resolve it, but eventually, I had to wash my hands. I had actually LOST money on this client, by having spent a ridiculous amount of time and effort on a single project that paid no more than $500, as opposed to $2000/mo marketing deal this was supposed to represent.

Stacy Norman at Guru.com revoked my account, after 6 years of being a PAYING member, after the founder, Inderpal Gugliani actually went so far as to ask for my consulting advice on their own site several years into my membership, and after I had doubtless made them lots of money in transaction fees and member dues. Even though my use of the site was selective and somewhat sporadic, I had made them several thousand and had brought TO them many, many clients among those that used me on their site. That's right, I had brought THEM the clients in many cases, instead of them bringing ME the client. Why? Because I sought to help my clients to feel more secure when they expressed hesitation about starting their projects. I was the perfect, the ideal service provider for Guru.com, though I did not bring in 10K a year for them, I was bringing in 1-2K,m which is still pretty good for a member site.

When my account was ended (Norman said that I had threatened them by saying that I would take actions against them if they canceled my account), I reported them to the BBB and asked for my money back for my membership dues and transaction fees, since the online verification source I was paying for to build was now simply erased completely, nothing left, and basically, this was for something a client did to me, not something I did that would have violated the terms of my use of the site (I stated that I did not know the client had found me through Guru.com, and that was absolutely true, and yet I lost my investment of 5 years and thousands of dollars and all my hard consulting work down the drain) simply because of being the target of the wrath of Stacy Norman and her staff regarding a breach of site terms which was COMPLETELY ASSUMED, against all burden of proof, of which there was zero on the client's side, and many emails from the client on my own side to back up my story (I guess a phone call from an 'employer' who used their site to find a pro and yet skirted their transaction fees intentionally was worth more than the word of a loyal, seasoned veteran member service provider with numerous (over 40), extremely high client reviews?...).

In sum... I would recommend that pros who get dropped by Guru.com for the egregious actions of their clients, and not for their own conduct, report Guru.com to the Better Business Bureau and everywhere else they can online. Guru.com is NOT a reputable or even sensible company, and they do NOT represent a good choice for the freelancer seeking to build his resume in his or her chosen career path.

Above all, do NOT trust Guru.com with your money or waste your time attempting to build up a reputation via their site. Guru.com has a habit of chewing up their pros and spitting them out with nothing to show for their time, effort and money paid down. What you will end up doing is kicking yourself for wasting so much effort and time on something that can and will be taken away at the drop of a hat, at the word of a lunatic client who could not be pleased, or who broke the rules and then blamed you.

What concerns me about Guru.com is why do they need my tax info? Guru.com pays me nothing. I think this confuses a lot of professionals who use it. When I say Guru pays me nothing what I mean is: I am not working for Guru.com. In reality, if I find a person though Guru and am hired by that person, the only way it's even any of Guru's business is that they are a payment processor. They are not paying me. If anything, I am paying them to process my payments. Not unlike how you might pay an accountant to process your rent payments. I think that is the biggest scam going on on the internet right now and if a bunch of us got together to take action against Guru, we'd win.

I have used services like guru.com in the past with some success. This time around it was a bigger job, 2000.00. I hired a coder that was highly rated, so I thought and he demanded 1000.00 up front. This was my mistake, but he stated that we were both protected and guru.com could get our money back if something went wrong. To make a long story short the coder missed his deadline by almost a month and stood me up for four walkthroughs. I am not posting a direct complaint about the coder yet, but probably will sometime in the future. Guru did refund my 1000.00 that was in escrow, but did little to reprimand the coder for their bad behavior. The coder finally delivered something for the 1000.00, but it was very substandard and useless to us. Guru.com did nothing. One of the things I was using to negotiate was my ability to post negative comments about the situation. I ended up doing that and guru.com said the coder had the power to block it. I was totally shocked and dismayed at this and began to go around and around with guru. I just cannot understnad how a service can say they provide reviews and then block those that are unbecoming. On other sites like vworker all the reviews are posted and you can see when the coder enteres a dispute, so you get a real honest picture of the coders interaction with the client. Guru.com presents the image that they provide reviews, but really they only provide reviews that are positive, not negative. Because I this I have made the decision to stop using guru.com and I have made it a goal to tell other consumers about it. If you go to guru.com to hire you need to understand that coders have the ability to block unwanted reviews... Hire at your own risk!

Guru.com are blatant Scammers. Do not trust their SafePay process (escrow) as it is anything but Safe, it's an automated process, that after 7 days pays the provider whether you are finished with the project or happy with the project or not. And then Guru.com have the audacity to say with confidence, "the payment has been made as per the T&C's and it's no longer in our hands, sorry we cannot recover you money as the provider has been paid". What is the point of "escrow" if they are controlling it automatically after 7 days? Escrow my ###, more like scam, scam, scam.

My advice, avoid Guru.com.

P.S. If you want a logo go directly to FullStop360.com, cracking designers and great lads. No I am not affiliated, I've just had exceptional service which I did not get at sodding Guru.com.

I have tried, unsuccessfully, to get Guru to refund a cash payment they withdrew from my account after I suffered an overdraft fee.

After checking my bank statements and even talking to the bank, the both of which indicted that they did not return the withdrawal, they still refuse to refund me. I even provided them evidence of this, and they not only took a long time to respond to me, but they still refuse to fund me.

Seriously, don't use them.

I am in-between jobs and trying to get by, and they completely f***** me over. Thanks a lot Guru.

The Guru itself is a fraud. In order to set up my credit card, they kept charging me on Credit Card and told me to verify numbers. The verification is in US dollars and they make it hell a lot confusing. The worst part is I am being charged on Guru over and over again and their CUSTOMER SERVICE IS NONE. They barely respond and thats really frustrating when you have a deadline to meet. and keep you waiting.

I have no problem with the freelancer they are very decent, My issues lies with Guru. Their payment platform raises issue 2 times out of 3, despite showing a message payment was not successful they still charge the money to your bank account as many times as you tries to pay them out. They received the money and cancel it out instead of paying it to the free lancer causing hefty bank charges. When asked about the customer service, it is non existing . They washed their hand of any situation, have no sort of customer service and act according to their own decision with total disregards for any furhter problem they may have, As client I suggest you stay away from them

I have had many good experiences with Guru.com however with my current project I had to leave a review.

It is entirely too easy for your freelancer to lie to you. They can easily hide their location, as well as who will actually be doing your work. On top of that once you have released funds there is NO WAY you can retrieve them. Their arbitration is a joke. Guru.com's mentality when it comes to their free lancers tricking and ripping you off is simply "suc*s to be you". They tell you to be more careful and have a nice day. I have been lied to outright by multiple freelancers.

I am months over the due date for my website and it still does not function as agreed and I have no recourse to get my money back. If this company was really interested in protecting you they would make it a violation of their terms of use to not accurately represent who and where the work is being done.

THIS SITE IS A DANGER TO ALL THOSE RUNNING THEIR OWN BUSINESS! DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY.
