During an overnight heavy rain and high wind storm in August of 2011, we found ourselves chasing down leaks and catching water throughout our mobile home in the middle of the night. That night our medal roof began to rumble and slam down on our roof trusses very violently. We filed an insurance claim with HomeFirst Agency on the next business day.
They were very sympathetic and were glad to get a field adjuster in contact with me. The field adjuster came out and inspected the home. He found the the wind had somehow gotten under the medal and began to wave my roof up and down so violently that it forced many screws loose or completely out. The medal now sags between each truss and is stretched and bent in many places. It also separated my gutter from the home in several places allowing water to enter my exterior walls. The storm also destroyed much of my skirting and shifting my home leaving many cracks and separations in my walls and ceilings that still grow a little bigger each week.
During his inspection of my home's interior, he found many places that has suffered water damages. Most every exterior wall shows signs of water damage not only at the ceiling but also along the floor where the water has traveled all the way through the walls. He found many ceiling panels that suffered so much water damage and jolts from the medal slamming down that the panels were bowed off of the ceilings. The field adjuster suggested to remove some soft sheet rock on a couple of exterior walls to inspect the studs and insulation. We did so in the bedroom where my 4 year old and 7 year old daughter sleep. We found black mold on the insulation and a stud that was so black it looks like it has been in a fire. He then told us that we should not have any problem getting what we need to make the repairs because it was obvious to him that the damages were storm related.
A few days later the insurance company called me to say they were sending me a check for $1, 203.00. I asked to speak to the field adjuster that was so sure I would be taken care of and they told me I was no longer allowed to talk to him. I spent the next two weeks receiving estimates from contractors. I did not get one lower than $15, 000.00 due to the roof replacement and all the mold abatement and repairs throughout the entire house. They all the sudden became very difficult to get on the phone. I collected all my estimates and took nearly 100 photos of my damages. I sent them the pictures and wrote them a letter giving them 10 days to come to a resolution or I would take legal action. Four business days after they signed for my letter, they called me and wanted to send out an "independent neutral" adjusting company to re-evaluate my claim. When the adjuster came out 2 days before their deadline, he was telling me how busy HomeFirst Agency keeps him. (but keep in mind he is an "independent neutral" adjuster) He took many more pictures than the first adjuster and even found more damages. Their deadline has now passed and I have no choice but to take my attorney's advice and sue them.
HomeFirst Agency has caused us so much stress and concern over this. The worry of the mold infested home with three young children is enough to drive someone crazy. We have had more rain since the damages and the problems grow worse every time it rains. I have found my wife several times crying because she feels so helpless and scared living in this home and stressed on how we will ever have the money to repair it. Save yourself the mental anguish and stress and find a different insurance company!

I've had terrible experience with Home First coverage. They denied my claim for skirting and steps lost due to the flooding, wind storms, and torrential rains. I was basically spoken to like a child and treated rudely. The inspector that came out for my first claim was a jerk and said he wasn't going to state the damage because the roof was old. My home is now raining inside since a recent storm hit. It's deteriorating because they refused to cover it the first time. He only sent a check for $300. I still have all the pictures from that storm. I had some silicone put on my roof and that's all I can do with $300. The other adjacent structures were supposed to be covered but he denied the claim stating the insurance doesn't pay for water retention. My home was sinking and cracking. I had to move to another park. The flood was called water retention so he could deny my claim. I was definitely in the flood because the fire department had to transport me to work due to flooding on all roads surrounding my home. I'm a nurse so I had to relieve others shifts and my car was unable to be moved. Yes I was in a flood. They need to force that fraudulent insurance company out of business.
My daughter's trailer was for Vanderbilt. They chose to escrow her insurance. The adjuster claims he sent her a check for $1400 which she never received. Even after several notifications. They never sent her the coverage. Her home was hit by hurricane Rita. Damage was so extensive that she had to let Vanderbilt repossess the home. It was water damaged and roof leaking inside all walls.
My husband and I purchased a 2014 Clayton Home in October 2014, was delivered but we did not get into the home until Nov 2014 at Thanksgiving. We have had a waterline bust at wash and dryer connection, luckly my husband and I had extra fans to place on the walls to start drying. After further investigation mold was found and 2 whole walls were replaced in utility room and 1 in the master bedroom Home First paid and we paid the contractor. Now, presently we have plumbing problem under the trailer. I was told to call a plumber and pay for the inspection which I did and he found 3 problems; trunk line leading from front bathroom to main junction needs realigned, sewage vents have to be replaced and could not check vent line in master bedroom bathroom because of no attic access area to check stack; and you could smell raw sewage coming from under the trailer. When the plumber took off the skirting by master bath I was overwhelmed with the sewage smell. When contact insurance company, they sent a separate inspector, that was 2 of them, and they could not smell the sewage smell at all and no physical damage was visible seen plus they stayed together and were not separated to smell the sewage. I asked if I could have a third inspector out but I would have to pay for it. My husband and I can not breath in our own home without getting out of the house in 10 to 15 minutes, coughing a lot, headache and no energy at all to do any thing at all. We are staying in our travel trailer. We made a trip to the Emergency Room...5 vials blood work drawn, ABG drawn, chest x-ray, breathing treatment, steroid shot and Zpac prescribed and diagnosed with bronchitis. I told this to the insurance agency and they said nothing about paying that bill that our health insurance would have to pay for that. Our lawyer was pretty angry about that. We will be paying the plumber to fix the problem on our home, even though the insurance agent said it is still under investigation it's been a month and fixing to start 2 month. Can the EPA do anything, we know fire department could tell us to stay out of the home. I just want to get back in my home...Husband and wife need their home back in central Texas!
We purchased our Clayton Home 5.5 years ago. Two years into the home, water started leaking under the French doors. We filed a claim. The floor is rotted out. HomeFirst state’s it was normal wear and tear. Then stated it was wind driven rain? Wind driven under coming inside the home from UNDER the door frame? They denied that claim. An few months later, the floors stared sagging in the kitchen, totally different from the “ wind driven rain”. An adjuster came out and said it’s obvious the floors are sagging and soft. Then I get a letter saying no defects were found in the floor. They sent me a check for $300 like they do everyone else. I have had a plumber, floor remodeling company, an insulation company, and a HVAC specialist come to my home. All of them stated it was due to the fact my aluminum duct work is abutted against the bottom of my floor without any insulation or any type of wrapping to stop moisture from stepping into the floor. They all stated this was a big issue was was improperly done. HomeFirst states they will not cover any damage! A brand new home and can not even walk in one half of the home.
Also, roof started leaking. An adjuster came out and found screw holes in the roof that caused the leak. He, and the insurance claim rep said this was done during delivery and that is what is causing the leakage. They put it off on the home center. I contact home center, he stated they sealed all the holes. They never even came out to see that holes were not sealed. I have pics along with the adjuster and HomeFirst have pictures. And they still refuse to fix the issue.
This is bad business!
