I found out I had a debt on my credit report from an apartment community that had been turned over to Hunter Warfield for collections 2 years ago. My credit report stated one amount, when I called the apartment community the amount was $25.00 higher, and they referred me to Hunter Warfield to resolve the debt. When I called Hunter Warfield, they insisted the debt was yet another $20.00 higher than the original on the credit report (which was just ran yesterday). HW explained it was interest... When I tried to get the interest negotiated, they did not want to hear it. This debt was due to cleaning fees from an apartment for an oven cleaning and removing a table from a patio. When I agreed to pay the higher balance, they asked for all sorts of personal information, including a friend or relatives phone number - even though I was paying the balance in full. When I would not give this information, I was hung up on. When I called back, I was placed on hold for an extremely long time and hung up on once again when I wouldn't disclose a friend's number. I finally spoke to a supervisor on my 3rd call and was able to get a pin number to make the payment online without disclosing a friend's number (which the prior associates would not do in the previous calls). This company is extremely rude.

How could they in your words "could really be going about this in a much better way"? They called you and left a message on your voicemail which you didn't respond to.

As for the voicemail they can't leave detailed information about the reason why they are calling because it is against FDCPA policy to do so. If someone happens to listen to your voicemail you could easily sue for 3rd party disclosure.

Also, your family members could have simply stated when they call not to dial their number anymore and I'm sure the agent would have done so. Harrassment is calling without a purpose.

Finally, as far as calling you at 8 am I hate to break to you but it is perfectly legal to do so under the law. If you have a problem with it then send them a cease & desist letter and request only to be contacted by mail but beware this doesn't stop the CA from reporting the debt to your credit or taking further actions againt you.

Yes, I didn't respond because I didn't get either of the messages until well after normal business hours. I don't understand why you're so quick to blame me (or anybody else here). I don't need a lot of detailed information. All I ask is some indication of who the guy is or what company he represents. Again, if I hadn't googled the phone number, I would have no idea what this was even about. The fact that the first things that pop up on the google search are complaint threads against the company isn't a good sign. The calling of my relatives isn't harassment, fine, but yelling at them and hanging up on them when they won't divulge private information certainly is. People can be polite, for goodness sake. It's not like I'm intentionally avoiding a debt or the debt collector. We've simply missed each other. He didn't even give me a chance to call him back before calling my family (and again, how the hell did he get my grandmother's phone number?). He called for the first time on Friday, only two days ago, so it's not like I'm hiding. Tomorrow is Monday, and I have the day off, so I will certainly answer the phone if he calls.

Unfortunately Mr. Rojo they can find any phone numbers legally through searching with your social security number or on the original application you signed.

The message you might have received was probably left hours prior and your cellphone company was slow in sending it to you. Yes, it does happen.

Now let me address these complaints on here. Many times as a collector I was accused of doing something that was not true. That's because most people if not all hated to be called by a collection agency and start off the conversation with a bad attitude. You would be surprised how many debtors will make up horrifying stories then you find out later it wasn't true. Many of the people who complain on here have only themselves to blame for not taking care of the bill when they should have.

I am not saying there are not CA's out there who don't deserve to be shut down, it's just the majority of them are not in that category.

You are going by what you're family is telling you. Most often than not it is the family members screaming and yelling at the collector because they won't divulge any information about the call. They (collector) are right in doing so because the CA doesn't want to break the law.

You weren't present when they called you're grandmother were you? Of course not so you're going by what she tells you. It's a common theme among debtors family members who hate to be called about you and then not be given detailed information as to why.

When you call the CA have them remove all family members and friends from their list and ONLY call your own phone numbers such as your cell and home. This way you avoid arguing with the collection agency for no reason.

This is to Lookatyourself

Do you actually read what these people are writing about. Individuals that post to this site are not always complaining about the validity of a debt, but more of how they were treated when they were contacted about the debt. Your comments on this site are really rude. I found out about HW when a friend of mine was called in my presence and the person on the other end was not nice at all. The person even went so far as to tell my friend "go get a job", explain that please. Who are you to call anyone a liar, or suggest that someone is a dead beat for not paying a bill. Life is not cookie cutter, one week a person could be earning a bonus and the next filling for bankrupcy. Don't believe me well check the news a few months back when CEO were jumping from their high-rises. So before you call someone out on their experiences take the time to actually read and absorb what you read.

Hey prince of peace, you obviously didn't read ALL of my posts because I have actually stated many times I don't condone any bill collector breaking the law or being abusive.

I use to be a bill collector and know how debtors LIE big time especially when I had their current credit report right in front of me.

My comments are not rude just FACTUAL which is what alot of you hate to hear. I don't have to "read and absorb" anything people post on here because I have heard it all as a former collector.

Debtors always use common excuses or themes thinking it will get them a free pass. Unfortunately any event that might have happened true or not has NOTHING to do with the contract they LEGALLY signed.

It does NOT absolve them from the debt they incurred, unless you have it in writing from the apt complex themselves or from a judge in a court of law.

Examples:

"I was in the hospital and was sick"

"My husband/wife and I got a divorce and I am not the one who is suppose to pay this"

"I lost my job and couldn't pay the rent anymore"

"My room mate abandoned the apt leaving me to pay for all the bills"

"The manager was racist" (No documented proof through the courts)

"I had a death in the family and had to leave to take care of that"

"I paid my rent on time through most of my lease and turned in my keys because I couldn't afford to pay anymore"

"They never fixed anything so I left"

"This was fraud because I never signed the contract" (Again no documented proof such as a police report)

"I co-signed for the other person and never lived at the apt"

"The place was unsafe and had no choice but to pack up and leave"

"I am a full time student/unemployed and can't pay" (Hint: They sometimes have a cell phone or a car but somehow manage to make it every month)

I can go on and on but you get the point. Unfortunately debt collections is a necessary evil in this world otherwise we would all pay more than we are now.

If debtors stop acting foolish on calls and accept RESPONSIBILITY for their actions instead of making excuses the process would go much easier.

AGAIN I don't condone ANY collector acting foolish either but your friend should have asked for a manager in order to bring that issue to their attention.

There are always two sides to every story and I've seen both which is why I can make these statements. Obviously you are only on one side which is your friend and that is to be expected.

Try being on the other end of the phone for a change and you will CLEARLY see what I am talking about.

Like a judge on tv once said, "If you want to get out of a legally binding contract, you MUST do it in a LEGALLY binding way"

Enough said.

I am having the same issue now with Hunter. I have been paying on a debt and my debit card ran out. When the rude person, named Mike called me I was giving him my new debit card but wanted to make sure he was going to apply my payments as per our initial agreement. He would not answer me and got rude and obnoxious. I asked him to please "Lose the attitude" and he said" this is how we are going to handle this, I am going to say you "REFUSED" to pay and we will be hitting your credit score" Have a nice day he said and hung up. I never stated I refused to pay just asked to be treated like a human being.

I am investigating a class action lawsuit against Hunter Warfield for people that they have contacted who lived in Florida at the time of the contact. If you send me a copy of the collection letter you received from Hunter Warfield, it would help with convincing an attorney to take the case. The letter has to be addressed to a Florida address. The email address to send the letters to is:
hwiclassaction@gmail.com
Hunter Warfield is a pretty scummy company that promotes that it collects from people that owe money from funerals.

Here's my complaint, so I owed on an apartment. It ended up with Hunter Warfield. We talked back and forth about settling and agreed to an amount. I don't approve of giving out my credit card number over the phone, so I sent them a money in the amount agreed. These people get and send it back, just as Mike had said they would. So now I'm looking legal action for this cause a payment was sent in and basically not accepted.

I see some people still don't get the picture, so I will respond accordingly.

To retired2me:

All you have to do was ask for a manager or the original collector you made the agreement with then give them your new card #. Now be aware if you had declined payments before then they do have a right to nullify your original payment agreement because you defaulted on the agreement not them.

You knew the payments were running out so why did you wait until they called your house? Seems to me you became reactive instead of proactive.

To: hunterwarfieldlawsuit

Let me get this straight. You are trying to get a class action lawsuit by gathering letters they sent to debtors in Florida?

Really? Really? They are licensed in Florida sir/madam as well as all other States because I checked it. Oh and by the way they ARE hired to collect funeral debts by the very same funeral companies those Floridians did business with.

There is also a little known fact, a piece of paper (other than the funeral bill you're talking about) called a signed "contract", so good luck with that trying to get an attorney to persuade a judge that it's not valid in court.

Again it's about being RESPONSIBLE for your actions and the contract you LEGALLY chose to sign.

To: mightymaxamilllion32

Well did you get it in writing to what was agreed to on the settlement? Of course not. So you plan to sue HWI for something you have no proof of.

What you fail to understand sir is you were told of an amount that would acceptable to their client verbally at that moment. Sending it in the mail without a settlement letter is NOT an arrangement. The account I'm sure is gaining interest therefore by you sending it in you're not covering that part.

Look, some of you have to understand you are NOT a customer and are in no position to dictate how the account is going to be processed or resolved. The client dictates to the collection agency they hire what they are going to accept as reasonable payment(s).

What most of you are upset about is that the CA who was hired legally has control over how your debt is going to be paid and you as a debtor are merely being held accountable for the contract you signed.

File a bankruptcy, list the FDCPA violation(s) as an asset in schedule b; exempt it on schedule c; have a consumber law attorney sue for the fun and profit. Now, the collection company gets nothing and you get paid for their wilful violation of federal law. Cool.

Hey Mark, great idea except what about if there were no violations and the debt is legally owed? The bankruptcy can be contested and the debtor ends up paying more.

I know collection agencies that get paid through bankruptcies. So you idea is a bit flawed and misleading but then again it's people like you that tend to give information to the public which sometimes turns out to be dead wrong.

What happened to being responsible for the contract you chose to sign? I guess in America it's typical because all we do is make excuses for not paying what you legally owe.

Imformed Hunter/Worfield of an invalid debt 2 months ago. when I called them to check on information I requested, the representative was rude and implied that I had broken the law by stating "before we go any further I need to read you your miranda rights"! Being a disabled/retired law enforcement officer, I told him no law had been broken and Miranda had nothing to do with the Fair Debt Collections Act statement he read me. Him implying it did was actually against the law! He the hung up on me. When I called back he hung up on me again!

Sounds like a crack-pot business.
You know as well as just about anyone that the Miranda is given by law enforcement once they find a crime has happened through asking basic question first.
You need to report this company for fraud because they are using the "Scare" tactic to make you go away, good for you in standing up and not taking it.
I'm sure you know what agency you need to contact for fraud, good luck.

Hey PR4Life:

Your quote:

"well i got new for you Hunter war! screw you..i don't give a dam about my credit..."

Uuhhh really? The only one you're hurting is yourself with that attitude. If I had a nickel for every time a debtor told me what you just stated I would be rich.

It's more than just your credit. This can affect you with everything else in your life not to mention if it's a large debt you could be sued by the apt complex you lived at.

If you TRULY want to setup a payment plan you could easily speak to a manager and not the collector. I am sure your post is missing some facts because you were probably the one with the attitude. Chances are you probably offered them some $50 bucks a month or wanted to mail in your payments which they don't have to accept.

Remember PR eventually you will need something like I did and end up calling the CA later on only to find out you owe more because of interest. But that's your choice.

You know everyone complaining on here about how they are treated by collectors need to step back and "Look at themselves." Look at Yourself if 100% correct about everything that they have posted. Look at Yourself is doing what most people complain about and that is giving you the facts. I have worked in collections for years and vouch for everything L.A.Y. says. With that being said L.A.Y. provides you with very relevant and helpful information and is called rude for it, many collectors are accused of doing the same thing every day. GIVING YOU THE FACTS! If you don't pay your bills bad things happen. Now I will admit there are bad agencies and bad collectors out there that give all the good ones bad names. Most agencies hire professional debt collectors that have several years of experience so they know they are getting someone who knows how to handle their files. There are few agencies known within the industry as "chop-shops" that hire high school dropouts with substance abuse issues for dirt cheap to collect debt that is out of statute. (If your deabt is out of statute DO NOT PAY A DIME! If you pay even a dollar on it it becomes reinstated and they can sue you.) These agencies end up going under after a couple of years never to be heard from again. As for the "chop-shop" collectors, well, I'd say they end up complaining on the internet about good collection agencies trying to collect one of the numerous debts they owe. Yes I will admit that was rude to refer to the people complaining on here as high school dropouts, but I really don't think I'm that far off. As a collector I understand that most debtors want to pay their bills and we get that people sometimes go through hard times. But if someone owed you $5k and claimed they could only pay you $50 a month until it is paid off, would you agree to that? You have to what you have to do and the agencie will certainly do what they have to do. L.A.Y. keep up the good work I must say I am extremely curious as to your identity and back story but either way you give good information and people should be on here thanking you not putting you down.

Seriously Look at Yourself:

I appreciate the comments made in your post. I absolutely agree with the "chop shop" statements and even though there are bad agencies out there who should be shutdown and give the rest of the industry a terrible name that doesn't give the debtor the right to be irresponsible with their legal obligations to pay because in the end we pay more for their blunder.

It never ceases to amaze me when I gave the debtors the FACTS they accused me of being rude or threatening even though it was the truth. Then they had the nerve to call me months later (after being sued) to complain about it.

You used the same example I have when debtors get on here complaining in these message boards about their $25 payment not being accepted bc they think the CA HAS to take it (big myth).

We all know full well that if someone owed us $5k there is no way we would accept $50 a month from that person. If they say they would they're liars. This is why CA's are NOT customer service bc they represent their clients NOT the debtor.

Unfortunately Americans in this country will make EVERY excuse not to pay but will quickly run to the feds when told to.

At the end of the day it's about being RESPONSIBLE like it or not and being held accountable.

I just recently had a debt placed with Hunter Warfield for collections, in that time I noticed every month they were updating my credit repot with an increased amount owed. When I finally got the funds together to pay the debt, Hunter Warfield informed me the account was interest bearing. By not paying the amount this month, it'd only increase the next. I immediately began working with a credit company to negotiate a settlement. Apparently, the company received bonuses/commission for funds received before the last business day of the month. Hunter Warfield countered every offer sent to them until I got the original leasing company involved. The leasing company contacted Hunter Warfield the same time Mike Geary of Hunter Warfield did to negotiate a 50% payment by the weekend and the remaining balance the next weekend. The original leasing company agreed to my terms therefore forcing Hunter Warfield to accept my terms. Needlesstosay, I called Mike Geary to set up the payment arrangement or autodraft if possible and he wouldn't answer my calls nor return them. I had to make payment arrangements for the accepted offer with Adam Rock, who seemed more pleasant than any of the Hunter Warfield staff.

I received a call from this company about a debt to an apartment complex. They are very nasty and rude. They have refused to provide me documentation of this debt although there was a settlement reached between myself and an attorney representing the apartment complex. This type of behavior is not ok, just because you have not paid a bill does not give any company the right to harass and disrespectful when they call you. At this time, this David guy, is not returning my phone calls and has not provided me with any documentation but yet he wants to be paid. When I file my lawsuit against this company I will also include the apartment complex and the attorney office of which I made the arrangements. Companies need to be more responsible with who they use as a collection agency.

I am glad you were able to resolve your debt but what HWI did by adding interest was perfectly legal not to mention it was approved by the very client you owed the money to. Funny thing is even the federal government does it when you owe back taxes. Heck they can also do it with child support.

You were one of the lucky ones bc most of the time the client which hires the collection agency to begin with usually refers you back to the CA to handle the matter. It happened to me a few years ago with another apartment complex.

As for commissions and bonuses that's NOT uncommon in any business that deals with financial accounts on a daily basis. Haven't you ever been given a bonus by companies you worked for? They (HWI or any other company) have the right to reward their employees for a job well done.

Car dealerships, banks, telemarketing companies and so forth do this all the time. It's an incentive for their employees to gain something for their hard work. It's NOT illegal or unethical and I am sure you didn't complain when you were given one.

Just make sure your bill is paid and move on that way this burden will be lifted off your shoulders.

msedwards22:

What I don't get is why are you making this so hard for yourself? If you TRULY want verification of debt or any documents you simply send them a certified letter (cc the attorney as well) and mail it to them . This way it's well documented they are refusing to provide the proper paper work.

HWI's address can be easily found in Google. You can even email them directly and make your request.

Website: http://www.hunterwarfield.com

Address: 4620 Woodland Corporate Blvd., Tampa, FL 33614

General Inquiries: info@hunterwarfield.com

Also if you do have a settlement with their clients attorney how come you have given the collection agency the letter stating so? Or call the apt complex to let them know the lack of cooperation you're getting from the CA they hired. It could be you're just telling the collector about some settlement with their client they don't know about.

As for your alleged lawsuit that's up to you and although I agree with you companies that hire CA's need to be responsible, YOU also need to be RESPONSIBLE as well. It seems to me you failed to follow up on your part by not providing the information needed so the CA can go and close your account.

RESPONSIBILITY falls on ALL parties involved MsEdwards22 NOT just the other side.

Two tips:

- NEVER speak to a collection on the phone. Communicate in writing.
- If you disagree with a debt, file suit in your local small claims court.

Both of these tactics take a great deal of effort. That's life.

I put a response to the last two posts before Mr. Shapiro put his but I guess Complaintsboard.com must be censoring constructive comments aimed at educating people who come on here and whine about their responsibilities.

Now to Mr. Shapiro, are you serious? By not speaking to the collection agency that was hired by the very establishment you did business with only hurts the debtor. Unless the collection agency is a bogus company or the debt is TRULY invalid that is the only time a debtor should to take it to court.

Wasting tax payer money by going to small claims court on a debt you legally owe all because you fail to accept responsibility for the things you sign is downright ignorance.

Bottom line people is this. If you don't want a collection agency calling you then READ WHAT YOU SIGN and be responsible.

I recently received a call from the gracious Mr. David Hine, and I would have to agree. I have never spoken to a bigger jerk in my entire life. He uses scare tactics and intimidation. I couldn't help but start laughing, and he said, "Are you laughing at me?" and I said, "Can you hear yourself? I have never heard anyone talk like this..." Then he hung up.

The thing is: I never agreed with the bill the apartment complex slapped me with when I moved out. There was no documentation at all- just a list of the things that were supposedly wrong. I tried to correspond with the apartments, but they didn't respond until they turned the bill over to Hiney. I too would like to buy a house this year, and at the end of the day it just made more sense to pay it and avoid the headache. I don't have time to get a lawyer and go to court all for $1400. I would have been more compliant if Hiney didn't come at me like that- this I will never understand. What's wrong with being polite? I think that was more of my issue.

At the end of the day he got his money, and by reading all of these posts he has been very successful acting that way to get what he wants. I can't help but be grateful that I don't ever encouter anyone like that in my daily life, and I can't help buy wonder about his wife. What can she be like? :)

Lastly, I just want to say I am offended by the generalizations made by LAY by Americans. Come on. In what era are we living? That's ignorant. Being a past debt collector, I'd be willing to bet you were in contact with Americans that owed money to someone, moreso than anyone else. It doesn't mean that everyone is that way. There is no reason to get high and mighty like that, and make racist statements. Even if you are American- that's a disgrace. It takes away all of your credibility and just makes you look stupid.

Really fearless viking? Really? You call me racist, stupid and that you're offended by my generalization of Americans calling me ignorant YET you get on here with your sarcastic comments putting down Mr. David Hines laughing at him while he's trying to do his job. Then you wonder why you got treated like a deadbeat.

You sir ARE ignorant because you claim to be insulted by my comments about people but then you turn around and do the same thing with others like David and his wife by calling him names. As for your bill you should have made sure every thing was taken care of before leaving. That means making SURE you have documentation from the apt complex that you did everything the lease required of you which includes a move out inspection so there weren't any damages etc.

I can guarantee you getting a lawyer would have been a waste of time because as long as they got your signature on the dotted line and you have no proof you didn't owe it your lawyer would have told you to pay it. I have seen it over and over again.

STOP acting like you're a victim because it was YOU who started laughing and acting like a fool. Were you being polite when you started laughing at the guy? You could have requested verification of the debt if you TRULY wanted to see the documentation.

This is why I stated that Americans in this country are ignorant and clueless because they make excuses for not taking RESPONSIBILITY of the decisions and actions they make.

THAT IS NOT RACIST SIR IT'S FACT. Then we wonder why we are in the mess financially as a country. Where is YOUR accountability for your dumb actions? It's never ceases to amaze me how Americans preach freedom of speech in this country but when someone comes along with a different belief system or opinion suddenly they are labeled as an outcast.

Hypocrite.

First of all- it's not sir it's ma'am. Let's try to get that straight at least. :) We can agree to disagree. I don't appreciate someone making stereotypes and generalizations about entire groups of people based on interactions with a small percentage. I was talking about one person, and by using my emoticons was implying that it was a joke. If you are making a harmless joke about Americans, please forgive me! I had NO idea by reading your long pages of rants describing the downfall of American society.

I was meerly asking to be treated like a person and with respect, and from the get go of that phone call that did not happen at all. At that point he did not deserve mine in return. Period. However, someone like you thinks that if someone disputes a bill they DESERVE to be talked to that way? Hmmm. No. Doesn't really fly. There was just no reason for it.

As I said, at the end of the day Hiney got his money. Basically what he did worked. However if you act like that, you really can't avoid this type of backlash because of our first amendment rights. You aren't going to change the world, friend. If all Americans are inherently like this meaning they take no responsibilty and just simply don't pay their bills (my god I can come up with about a million examples to refute), then why don't you leave? I mean really? What's the point if it makes you so angry? :) Is there another culture that takes complete responsibility and always pays on time? I mean does that not sound ridiculous?

My point is not all debt collectors HAVE to act this way, and nor will I say they do. Hiney is the only one that I've spoken to, so I can only say what I think about his manner. If you think that I turned around and did the same thing you did... hmmm... not really! I was talking about one person that I've had a personal experience with.

As for the laundry list of names you called me. Wow. Aren't you the one who has been crazy responding to everyone's post about Hiney? Who looks like a fool now? Do you do anything else? Just curious...

So I gather fearlessviking you know Mr. Hines wife to call her a cow? And you have the nerve to call me racist? This is the IGNORANCE I am talking about.

Typical debtor who will resort to low tactics instead of acting responsible and stop the whining about paying a bill they legally owe.

I can see both sides of this arguement, however, I recently moved out of my apartment after waiting until the lease ran out. When I moved IN the apartment, there were no lightbulbs in any of the rooms, so I placed energy efficient lightbulbs (the free ones from Duke Energy) in each room. When I moved out, I took them with me. The apartment manager decided to bill me $143.00 for REMOVING APARTMENT PROPERTY. She sent it to collections FIVE days after I moved out. I wasn't going to pay it at all until I got my taxes because because it's a ridiculous amount for lightbulbs. I'm moving into another apartment in two weeks and until they receive a receipt showing that the debt was paid in full, I cannot move in. I called HW yesterday and made the payment, I was told if I paid via check card, they would have to place a $15.00 fee with my debt. Rather than paying extra money (along with the interest it had gained since March) I paid via check. I was told DIRECTLY that I would not receive a receipt IN THE MAIL for up to twenty days.. however I could check online. I interpreted that as I would have a receipt online either today or tomorrow. When I logged on to their website, I received a notice saying that my receipt would not be posted until December 20, 2011. (twenty days from date of payment). I was FURIOUS. I cannot move into my apartment without that receipt and I cannot wait 20 days. I called again today to see if there was ANYTHING they could do, any form they would print out and fax me, etc. I asked for the Manager or the GM's number very politely. The secretary or whomever I was speaking to was VERY rude, requesting that I tell her immediately what I need to speak with them about. I said that I refused to discuss this with her. She mumbled under her breath and slammed the phone down and transferred me to whom I thought at first was the manager. I spoke with Terry. I do not know if Terry is or is not the manager, or any of the sort. If she is, she really need to take courses on customer service. She said that she told me "VERY CLEARLY" that I wouldn't receive a receipt in any way for twenty days. That is NOT the truth. She called me a liar, raised her voice and hung up on me as well. I have worked in multiple customer service positions for the past five years, and I know that it's often difficult to stay calm. I've been cussed out many times by patients and customers, however I can honestly say I have never ONCE called a patient or customer a liar, raised my voice and I have certainly never hung up on one. I do not know what I am going to do. I need a receipt, and it's impossible for me to get one. What should I do?

To Kaci:

Your quote:

" If she is, she really need to take courses on customer service. What should I do?"

I understand your frustration but I MUST clarify two things:

1st - You CHOSE to pay by check AFTER you were told the receipt would not be available for up to twenty days. Rather than using your debit card which would have cleared your account instantly, you CHOSE to use checks. Using checks now a days still takes time to clear because if they give you a receipt right away you could easily cancel the check and now their client won't be paid meanwhile you get what you needed without paying for it. It happens a lot believe it or not especially with credit cards.

Charging you a $15 "fee" to use your card is nothing knew in today's electronic age. I have paid bills online or purchased tickets to an event and was charged a "convenience fee" for using my personal account.

America is the land of the "Fees" NOT the land of the Free. Bank of America and others have been trashed in the media recently and rightfully so for trying to charge their customers a $5 monthly fee to use their debit cards. We are living in a cashless/paperless society now. Did you expect not to pay for that "convenience"? If you did then this is your wake up call.

2nd - I have to state AGAIN, you are NOT a customer. You are the person who owes the bill, another words the "debtor". The customer is their client which is the apt complex you lived at. The bill wasn't going to get paid until you realized you had to move which happens most often than not. People in this country have to understand to make SURE before you vacate the apt that you've done what the lease required. This means move out inspections, turning in keys and 30 - 60 day move out notices depending on the contract. Of course ALWAYS make sure to have EVERYTHING IN WRITING so you have proof you had done your part. You would be surprised how many tenants forget then are shocked to find out when they get charged later on.

I recently paid several past due bills with my debit card; one online, the other one to the collection agency and the last two were to the businesses themselves because my account was still active with them even though it was sent to collections. I immediately was able to get receipts because I knew if I paid by check it would take anywhere from 10 to 15 days to clear in their system.

Unfortunately you are going to have to wait because of the decision you CHOSE to make by going with checks even though by your very OWN admission they told you it would take up to twenty days to get a receipt. You knew that and decided to take the risk because you didn't want to pay the extra fee. This is about being accountable for your actions for not paying their client on time and deciding to do things your way when you should have paid immediately after moving out.

The only option you have is to see if they could cancel the check in their system and pay with your debit card otherwise as you were originally told by them your receipt won't be available for 20 days.

Very rude scammers. Hunter Warfield reps were very aggressive on the phone, demanded address and phone numbers for my family (yeah, right!), threatened everything from legal action to harassing phone calls at all hours, and then hung up on me when I demanded proof of the debt they claimed (and I still have no idea what it is and whether it is legit).

I filed complaints with the FTC and the Florida Attorney General. I recommend other victims do the same.

By the way, "Look at Yourself", it's pretty obvious you work for Hunter Warfield. Which is fine, it's normal for companies to respond to negative comments. But I hope you're doing it with official sanction, because you're not doing a great job and it could easily get you in hot water.

Here are some quick PR tips for you:
1) You don't have to be sincere, but you do have to be nice. Don't blame the upset consumers; apologize that they had a bad experience. Again, it doesn't have to be sincere. But being defensive and then going on the attack is only going to perpetuate bad blood and hurt the company's reputation more (if that's possible).
2) Never assert a legal claim unless you are a lawyer and you are making it in writing. Throwing out words like "defamation" is the worst thing you can do, and your corporate counsel would have a heart attack of they knew you were doing it. Among many other reasons, you make it possible for people to sue for declaratory judgment that their comments are not defamatory. They can do so in any jurisdiction. The legal expense in processing the court docs (even if the company decided not to contest the judgment) probably far outstrips the average amount Hunter Warfield is trying to collect. Don't do this.
3) If you or the company are accused of something, no matter how outrageous or unlikely, always promise to look into it and take appropriate action if abuse is found. Once again, you don't have to be sincere. But noting that a behavior is against company policy and promising to investigate is much better PR than calling people liars and names. Especially when there are huge patterns -- how many people talk about Hunter Warfield agents rudely hanging up during a call? Do you really thing this isn't happening?
4) Realize that anything you post here, along with your identity, is subject to subpoena and use in court. It's unlikely but possible. If you're posting with the company's blessing and oversight, you have nothing to worry about and the company is obligated to cover any legal expense incurred if you're dragged into it personally. If you're just an emotionally attached employee, you open the door to lots of problems with both your employer and aggrieved consumers.
5) Finally, regardless of whether you have official sanction to be responding here, I think it's a mistake for you to do so. People are complaining that Hunter Warfield is rude, unprofessional, abusive, and dishonest. And you come across as rude, unprofessional, abusive, and dishonest. You are *not* helping anyone. What's the benefit of your participation here, compared to the downsides I noted?

To Alsonik:

It's called my 1st Amendment rights along with my experience in the business. I will speak my mind with the truth when at all possible. It is really kind of funny how you defend these people who complain but yet DON'T READ what they are complaining about. Some of what they are saying is because of their own fault.
Last I check this was a forum where people can express their opinions. So it's ok to complain about someone calling you on a debt you might legally owe but when someone presents another view your mouth opens and cries foul.

Let me make it CLEAR to you I DON'T need your dumb PR tips because I am not on here representing HWI. I am here giving ANOTHER side of the story which people NEVER hear. I know what is to be a debtor and a collector and can very easily testify to the emotions that run through on either side.

You obviously DON'T READ my post in this forum because I have CLEARLY stated I don't condone ruthless collectors or agencies that promote violating the law. Those companies should be shut down HOWEVER that doesn't mean EVERY collection agency is shady. I have ALWAYS stated it comes down to RESPONSIBILITY and the need to STOP acting like a victim when you are not.

You stated "how many people talk about Hunter Warfield agents rudely hanging up during a call? Do you really thing this isn't happening"?

My response is, "how many of these people do you "think" are being honest in their posts here"? I know because I use to be a floor collector and understand how debtors would make incredible claims against me that turned out to be false every time. Now that is not to say I have never hung up on someone but that's because 99% of the time they refuse to resolve the issue at hand and just wanted waste time cursing me out.

I don't have to apologize to ANYONE much less the people on here or you because I am stating facts. Remember I am a debtor to as well as a former collector. AGAIN I am NOT representing HWI or any other company here but going from experience.

Whenever I am called by a collection agency I KNOW full well if I owe it or not because I request the verification of the debt and the name of the original creditor. I also make sure I find out if there are any legal issues such as being sued. The reason I know about HWI is bc I have friends there and know for a FACT many of their clients will possibly sue the debtor if they choose not to pay. I had a friend of mine who it happened to, a single mother with three kids. So don't ASSUME I am some Hunter Warfield mole in these forums bc I am not. I am just sick and tired of people in this country making excuses for the decisions they chose to make and the contracts they chose to sign.

Mr. Alsonik I could care less what you think about me because I am not doing anything wrong. I will continue to speak my mind and offer another side because after all last I checked this is America right?

Here is a link that shows what tenants NEED to do to protect themselves legally from scrupulous landlords. Articles like these is where I get my info to post on message boards. Unlike Alsonik I do my research first before I assume anything.
