Huge fan - for readers who don’t always remember
I love reading and learning. I’m the type to highlight everything I find interesting so I can remember...but still struggle to remember all the valuable information I read. Lucid is SUCH a brilliant app - helps you spend time on key book concepts in a visual way, so you have more chances of remembering what you learn. There’s also a quick interactive recap / quiz at the end to train your brain and avoid just a passive experience. It made me realize that the key to memory is taking a more active role in your intellectual consumption. Lucid does just that. Thank you, this app seems to be the answer to one of my biggest needs Grateful! Ps. Also UX/UI and graphics are super slick. Hope the team can sustain the production long term!
Often buggy and frozen, but nice when it works
I would be tolerant of some bugs in a free app, but I’m paying for the subscription and haven’t been able to use the app in a couple days because it’s frozen when I open it. Prior to this, the daily quiz doesn’t always appear and there isn’t a good way to find it in the app. Often, to keep reading a book I started, I have to dig back through my library to find it, because it disappears from the home page.
Many of the book contents are nice ways to get the gist of the idea - kind of like watching a 20 minute synopsis presentation of the book. Lots of popular nonfiction books available. They don’t cover all of the key takeaways you would get if you read the actual book, but if you’re interested there’s a link to the full book at the end of each one in the app.
Poor Free Access
So far I’ve been pretty disappointed with the experience since it seems like the entire app basically needs to be paid for ($100 a year) to be functional. I can only read the brief synopsis of each book without getting into the following chapters so it’s kinda depressing that there isn’t like a free library that I’ve found. Still gonna keep up with it for a bit to see if it catches on but it just doesn’t seem like there’s enough content available for free to last for any considerable amount of time. And a lot of the topics are pretty basic so I have no interest in spending $100 for access to something with very googlable topics. I have no issues with reading through pages of research so the “good for ADHD” component means very little to me when the content is kind of dry
Too Many Notices & Charged Even After Canceled
I uninstalled this app and canceled my free trial on 7/29/22. Today I got notified that my apple account charged me $99.99 anyway for a year’s service on this app. I stopped liking the app because it didn’t seem a good fit the day I start trying it out. I gave it another day or so but it kept sending me notification after notification. So finally I sent the cancel request and uninstalled. Now I get charged anyway?! Giving this one star review. I’ll amend it if I get a response to my email to refund my fee from the app developers.
Update 10/8/22: Not a word from the developers and no refund or resolution at all from them or Apple. Ripped off $99 from me and will not only never do business with this company again, will make a point of telling anyone who’ll listen to avoid them as well.
… All I can say is: WOW!
I’m trying the 7 day free trial and I am blown away so far. SO ENGAGING! I’ve always been the type that learned better with visuals and short bursts of useful information. This nails it! My favorite part? I’ll be reading something awesome and I think… gee this would really help this person in my life… AND THEN IT LETS ME SHARE WHAT IM READING WITH SOMEONE EVEN IF THEY DONT HAVE TO APP! Literally - SO COOL! Huge fan so far! Keep it up you guys! Add the 10X Rule by Grant Cardone as soon as you can please! Rich dad Poor dad by Robert kiosaki would be good, and The One Thing by Gary Keller! My only complaint would be the emphasis on social issues and topics that seem to be found in here… can we keep it to the greatest books and ideas of all time please? Let’s keep politics and social issues out of it!
Useful, but ironic
The app is smooth and responsive. It’s intuitive and yada yada yada. It will make you a smarter and more knowledgeable person for a price. I’ve contemplated this a lot and looked and the statistics and the fact is when education was free, Americans were smarter. You want to take the very thing that’s diminishing our collective IQ and make it a useful tool to educate the masses. I get it but to do that at a price is antithetical to your very mission. You want to make dumb people smarter, dumb people usually have less than everyone else. That’s sort of how it works or has worked until recently. When things were easier and cheaper you could provide it for free. You still can through nonprofit organizations. You could argue that it’s expensive to develop this tech. I’m not arguing that, I’m saying if you want to change the world you have to step up and do it.
My favorite app
I never write reviews, but I just had to come on here and rave about Lucid. I love learning, I’m a creative and very visual person, and also I have ADHD. Lucid is an absolute dream. Lucid communicates such digestible and enjoyable content, I have to remind myself to slow down and let the information I just learned sink in and process before moving onto a new subject! From practical learning to philosophical and everything in between, I absolutely love learning with Lucid. I have already started taking some of what I’ve learned and incorporated it into my work every day and wow, I just can’t say enough good things about this app. If you love learning and have very diverse interests but never enough time to learn about all of them, this is the perfect app for you. Also premium is worth the money if you can swing it. It’s the best subscription I’m paying for right now.
Incredible!
Do yourself a favor and download this app - seriously!
While the subscription is pricey (currently $99 annual or $15 monthly), it's absolutely worth it. With ADHD, learning is incredibly difficult. I love trying new ways to learn, and have never had as much success as I have with this app. And it was immediate success! Its very engaging and the topics are interesting and valuable.
One of my favorite parts is that it has accountability built in that will ACTUALLY WORK. You can sign up for courses (mine is 15 min a day for 7 days) and you have to schedule a time do it a day in advance and can auto add to your calendar. If you miss your scheduled time, you lose access to the course and get locked out. The only way back in is to contact the app support team. Talk about motivation! No more pushing learning on the back burner because I feel too busy when the reminder pops up - I love it!
Help Perspective
I'm not a social media junkie but in todays world yes we need some of the technologies to do our jobs keep up with loved ones etc. But the simple fact is it was called the Boob tube as far back as I can remember! Now we have a Boobtube on our wrists on our computers we literally have these walking talking devices that can go everywhere. We rob ourselves of the simple things n life like nature, being in it, listening to the birds. This is a perfect way to learn different interests and get something back from your time on whatever device your on. I always have said that education is our most powerful tool, any day I can learn something new even a new word of the day is a good day! Being a nurse I know the capabilities our brains can accomplish and it's so far more powerful but we don't even use a fraction of it. I say well if God gave it to me I should use it like it's any other part of my body, stretch it expand it this app does just that !
Lots to like, lots of irritations, costs WAY too much
I got this app to replace Facebook as my go-to idle reading. Good idea, right? Big concepts distilled into small chunks for easy reading. I have even bought some of the original books these are based on. Good stuff, a nice morning reading ritual, and a great way to make idle time useful by learning or re-learning. I got the Yearly Subscription. But, just four months later, I am canceling it. Here’s why.
$100 per year is just too dang much. I feel they put too much energy (money) into rather distracting animated graphics. A diagram? Sure. But a fully produced PowerPoint book report? Too much, unnecessary, irritating.
One sentence per page. What is this? Twitter? You can put more than one sentence per page. It’s like a click-bait listicle version of a book. Just keep clicking so we can track your engagement!
Finally, a myriad of small UI problems ranging for basic order-of-operations to larger navigation weirdnesses.
So yeah. There it is. Not for me. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Painfully Bland
I’m stunned to see all the 4-5 star ratings here. This app wouldn’t be worth a download if it was free and didn’t carry an obnoxious $50/year price tag. Unbelievable. The “visuals” are entirely nonsensical - a perplexing assortment of shapes and arrows combined with a random word out of the one sentence blurb it is meant to illustrate. The only purpose served is to distract you from the juvenile verbal content.
The *vastarray of less than 20 “books” (many of which I’ve read in full) to choose from effectively reduces the content down to a few dozen repetitive one-sentence blurbs knocked down to a first grade reading level. It’s one thing to seek more convenient means of benefiting from reading books, but if something needs to be abbreviated to this degree for you to read it you should frankly just stick to watching cartoons as there is really no hope for your level of laziness.
I know this was harsh - but come on now.. spark-notes and Wikipedia are free and manage to summarize text without viciously assaulting your intelligence.
I find myself craving time with this app
I’ve always laughed at the “I never write reviews, but…” reviews. Well here’s karma, because it’s my turn. I don’t write many reviews (at all) but I am so happy with Lucid that I had to. The content is first-rate, the visuals and storyboarding work well for my ADHD self, the format is intuitive, the layout clean, the quizzes incredibly helpful, and like one review said… this has replaced my doom-scrolling of social media with valuable learning and growth. I crave this app. And I love it’s iPad friendly, too… makes reading so much more enjoyable. Side note: help is fantastic… I reached out over synching issues and the response was A+ from a genuinely helpful and concerned team. This is a great way to get the key concepts from the most relevant titles of our time… and if one really hits a home-run with you… it’s quite the test drive before you buy the full book. I can’t begin to count how many apps I delete after the trial period, so this is out of my norm… my trial period is up tomorrow… and I’m all-in for the full version. Test Lucid and really dive in… you’ll be glad you did.
Free? Not at all!
The only thing you can do for free here is download the app. They say you can try it for free for seven days, but if you do then you have to go back and cancel or you’ll get charged $99 for a year. They also have a $15.99 a month choice, but I can’t seem to select that one to try the free week and based on the many bad reviews here I’m not going to attach my payment info unless I can see screenshots and examples from the site. Most apps give a truly “free” trial of some sort before you have to pay: you can usually see or try some limited aspect of the product. Not this one. As an educator I was interested in the app for possible education related applications, but am not hooking it to my payment methods without so much as seeing one example of the product. Very sketchy that I cannot Google this app and come up with any screenshots or examples or videos to show me what I would be buying given its very high price tag! I expect something on the level of ancestry.com or audible or Amazon prime for this kind of price tag and can’t see any evidence that it is this. Deleted app already…
great concept, bad app
concept is great, but lacking very basic things:
1) search button. seriously no search button?
2) tab with current book that I’m listening or reading. they are many people like me, when you start reading/listing some book but them decided to switch to another one, but still want to continue some time. in progress tab should be different than saved tab in my view, or at least split by two section, “saved for later” and “in progress”.
3) when you started to read book, and later on when you come back, you must continue to read and you cant play it instead? why
4) why can’t I listen and look at the slides at the same time? I find it extremely good when book is playing and in parallel I can look at pictures for visualization. I figured it out how to do it, but this should be in app functionality
5) program extremely extremely laggy, at least on my iphone X, and my ipad pro 2nd generation keeps crushing, maybe it is better on latest devices ♂️
if all that fixed, this would be best abstract reading/listing app, and it would definitely worth pay for subscription, for now I’m not sure if I’m going to extend mine, too much hustle
frustrating screen orientation on iPad
I absolutely love what this app does but I can’t believe that in 2023 you can’t allow the screen to reorient on the ipad, which means it’s for iPhone and not for iPad. Many of us do our reading on our iPad but because the app doesn’t allow the screen to re-orient when I use my iPad in the horizontal position like a laptop (which is 100 percent of the time), I have to hold my iPad vertically or prop it up. I find myself deciding not to do my imprint readings at coffee shops, etc. because this is extremely awkward and the iPad gets quite heavy if I have to hold it that way for long and impossible if I’m juggling coffee, etc.
When you make the next update, can’t you please add a genuine ipad version so that I can use it? Seriously, on most iOS development apps, this is literally accomplished by clicking on a checkbox before compiling. As I say, I love the app but if you can’t put out an iPad friendly version then I am going to end my subscription once the freebie week is over. Once that happens, I won’t be back as there are other more iPad friendly options out there. I really would like Imprint the best if it weren’t for this limitation that is basically developer imposed.
It’s a full bamboozle
You know the bait and switch? Yeah, that’s this pathetic app. I’m a big reader and am a fan of audiobooks, so I thought I would give this a try. Who doesn’t want to learn more faster!? They lure you in with a free trial—no big deal. I’m a big girl, I figured I’ll take the risk. DON’T. They say, “Oh, we’ll remind you 3 days before you’re charged! Heehaw heehaw!” with their money grubbin buck tooth. But what they don’t tell you is that at the end of the trial, they don’t charge you the monthly subscription— THEY AUTOMATICALLY CHARGE YOU FOR THE YEARLY SUBSCRIPTION. Am I surprised? *chuckleNo, no I’m not surprised that an app that doesn’t have the bones, the personality, or the reading materials to stimulate any being older than 14 has a business plan that mainly involves shiesting people in the midst of a pandemic. Thanks Lucid! Because of you, I realized capitalism is for the short-cons as well as the long cons. A millennial is counting his coins while This millennial sifts through his shiiiii, when all I wanted was a book to read. It’s a great idea, to condense bestsellers in concise little thoughts—that’s the bait. But Lo and behold, the switch! Or perhaps it’s the punchline. Lucid charges you the price of a couple brand new books, but the reading material in the app— if actually compiled—would not even fill a few pages. Would you pay $52 for a couple of shoddy sentences, all swirling around with no tangible intent? The app is empty, surface-level learning, not even worthy of toilet entertainment. Beautiful people of the world, Lucid presents to you...the bait and switch.
Fun and impactful
This app has come SO FAR. Revisiting it recently and I’m blown away by the quality of content (it’s not easy to distill books into their essential learnings), the joy of progressing through the content (the visualizations make it more enjoyable and memorable), and the reinforcing mechanism of the daily quizzes to “imprint” these lessons into your mind and build new habits. The “Be Productive” path is awesome - I have to pace myself to make sure I spend enough time with each book and lock in key messages with the quizzes before moving on to new concepts. For books I’ve read, the quality of the content gives me confidence in the accuracy and quality of new material I consume this way. The ability to save key content and easily access it later aids the retention. Some of these visualizations were so good they’re printed out and hanging on the wall next to my desk.
Some suggestions that would make me experience even better:
1. Longer quizzes - I appreciate the brevity of five question quizzes, but think 10 (or even more) questions would help us lock in the key messages even more effectively. Invest in building out the question bank - it’s such a powerful tool. I’d love the option to do them twice a day as well.
2. Make it easier to jump back into the middle of a read book/chapter - there are cases where I finish a book or chapter and want to go back as I missed the opportunity to save a page for later review. The normal path forces you to page thru all the way from the beginning. Only recently did I find you could exit out to “library” tab and select specific chapters to jump back into a book. Feels like “going back” once a chapter/book is finished should be easier.

Dumb for Dumberer
I can’t justify paying $100 for an app that is basically “suggesting” good books. This dumbed down “reading” bit sadly the people who really need it can’t afford it.
I “read” the first chapter of Atomic Habits and bought the book, so Thanks Lucid!
I’ll keep the app on my phone without subscribing and reviewing the books I’m interested in buying. Also the cute little animations and titles are so tiny I can’t see them clearly and there is no way to pinch zoom so I can actually read the tiny font.
So much hope
Happy holidays.
I never write reviews but needed to say a couple words.
1. I have ADHD and this app looked to be an answer to my learning challenges besides using mind maps. Sadly, I would open up a book and immediately it would take me out of it.
2. This caused me frustration and I thought restarting or uninstalling would fix I it. But nothing seemed to change
3. Even more frustrating is that now my account says that I never existed which does not make sense
Thanks and please dev team help
Content Matters
Re: the very first reading in the app. I’m concerned with the theories set forth by historian / philosopher Yuval Noah Harari. He seems do have drawn wide and most likely justified criticism for his apparent nihilism. I’m concerned that those with a reactionary or far right bias might use Harari’s theory to justify and possibly promote genocide.
It looks like most of the history and philosophy in the app is typical bourgeois liberal idealist nonsense. It’s a shame. The app itself is a great idea. But, content matters.

No FREE TRIAL period!
Signing up for this app was super easy and took three seconds but I realized after three days, I will not have time to utilize it for the cost. It’s taking me hours and I still can’t figure out how to cancel the free trial.! There’s no one to contact. The examples they give to cancel subscription do not even exist on my iPhone. I’ve had several people trying to help me figure this out and none of us have been successful. Buyer beware! A free trial is never free… If anyone knows how to cancel this, I would love some guidance!
Too expensive for the amount of content
I actually really like this app. The reason for only 2 stars is due to wanting to charge me $100/year for very little content compared to similar apps which I will not name here. And because those other apps with WAY more content are usually around half the price if not more cheaper. I’m all for supporting devs, but when your competitors deliver way more for less in an equally pleasing manner, I’m going to have to pass. Even at $40/year, it would be a hard decision. Not if there was considerable more content though.
Also, need dark mode very badly!
Cheers
Really stupid. Charged me $99. I can’t even log in
I downloaded this to see what it was about after reading about it on some “best of” list.
Of course, the “gotcha” of the world, it was a free trial. You can’t cancel immediately after they run your card. So I’m stuck with it for a year.
So I open the app to see if there’s anything I can do there. I am logged out. None of my emails are even recognized by the app. I have zero clue how to log into the stupid app I just paid $99 for.
It’s a waste of money. It’s stupid. Really really dumb. Whomever put it on their best of list is even more dumb. Like really dumb.
Well-done app but poor quality content
Good concept and well-done app but poor quality content. For example the Freudian Mind article introduces terms like preconscious and unconscious but never explains what they are. I’ve also seen blatant factual errors. For example the Blockchain and Bitcoin guide says that Bitcoin “bypasses” issues that exist in our current monetary system like money fluctuating value, money being stolen, or accounts being hacked. Really!? Bitcoin bypasses these issues!? It literally magnifies all of them. Makes me concerned about the reliability of other topics I’ve read about in the app.
$99.99 charge before your trial period ends
So I signed up for the 7 day free trial with the $99.99 yearly sub after. Second day of the 7 day free trial my credit card gets charged $99.99. It was a nightmere trying to get it refunded. Spent countless back and forth emails with their support.. they were constantly passing me off to Apple and Apple constantly passing me back to these guys … the customer service support for a simple refund was terrible and a miserable experience. I finally had to just handle it thorough my credit card company as a fraudulent charge … which got taken care of pretty efficiently and quickly.
Awful Philosophy Information
I’m a graduate philosophy student, and this app has terrible information on philosophy. I’m not sure where they get their sources, but it reads like it was written by people that scanned the key takeaways section of a philosophy 101 textbook, didn’t understand a word, and butchered the language to make it more “accessible”. Key phrases are mistranslated or misleadingly defined.
This app might get you interested in philosophy, and that’s great, but even Wikipedia is a more reliable source. For a good source of more accessible philosophy, try the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy.
Tries to sway your opinion instead of teaching you
Almost all content on Imprint is biased and tends to suggest left wing ideologies.
As a moderate, I understand that all writing has bias, but the suggested readings are often pushing left-wing ideals even though the areas of interest I marked as preferred have nothing to do with what they’re suggesting.
It’s unfortunate that an app that touts itself as a learning app pushes obvious opinions instead of trying to teach unbiased factual content. It feels similar to most media outlets that already have this problem.
On the positive side, the user interface is great and everything functions well for me.
Absolute joke
The app is good… when it is working! The app was completely down for over 5 days and after emailing the support team all they said was bare with us as if this was a normal time for an app to be down.
Even worse is that I was charged twice for the premium membership. After disputing the second charge I cancelled my membership and should have access through at least the end of the year but it should not be renewed.
Instead I now have no access at all even though I was charged $110 this august which means k should have membership until next august.
Do better and please check out this apps charging tendencies as I imagine they do this often to unobservant users
Like the idea, not so much the execution
I’m a visual learner, so I was excited to have an app in which I could just scroll but actually gain something from it. Honestly I love the idea of this app but it’s just not worth the $100/year commitment (maybe a monthly subscription but with the lack of enough engaging content, I just can’t see myself committing to this app for an entire year).
Additionally, I would love if there was any way to download books for reading offline (on the plane, the road, etc) and with the small amount of data per book this should not be a problem on the development side.
Overall, this app has great potential, but it’s just not quite there yet for me to pay and commit to it.
Doesn't load any content
The menu churns along and eventually displays some options, but when I click on one all I get is a blank screen. I had two thoughts: "Maybe they're having server problems and I should remember to try again later" immediately followed by "that's probably how people forget to cancel the trial that bills a full year at once". I was happy to give it a fair shake for the few cents they paid to send a Facebook ad to me. Based on my trial it seems that it doesn't work and I'm not going to give them more benefit of the doubt with $100 of my money on the line.
Buyer beware: If you can, make sure the content actually works on your phone and OS before paying, because it might not.
Not good enough
This app is a good idea but poorly executed and sketchy. The curriculum is very limited and the courses are a mere introduction. At the end you're advertised a book to buy if you actually want to learn something. So you're basically paying to read some advertisements. And paying a lot! I thought it would charge me $7.99 after my trial ended but I misread it. It was going to charge me $99! For a whole year at once! Very sketchy the way they phrased it. The number shown was $7.99 when I signed up. But they meant per month. They would automatically charge me for the whole year at once. I'm really glad I remembered to cancel it. I don't recommend. Just buy books and read them.
Really expensive for what you get
It’s a good app to see if you’re interested in getting a summary of the books you should read to be a learned adult of the 21st century, however, $100/year is a steep price for what you get…
I’ve read Atomic Habits twice and know the content pretty well. The app seriously waters down a lot of important content. And I agree with other users, the illustrations aren’t that engaging or conducive to my learning.
I don’t really like that I have pay for an app that feels like it is just advertising and teasing a bunch of books by authors they collaborate with. It really feels like I’m paying $100 for advertising and teasers.
Maybe if it was cheaper I’d be a little more happy to pay for it ♀️
App Stopped Working
Purchased the app earlier in the week. Got halfway through my first book and the app stopped opening/working. No way to get ahold of customer support.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Overpriced
The main issue is that the animations do not enhance the meaning/understanding of the content. While the app has great aesthetic qualities - animations need to be directed by an expert in the content, not an artist just illustrating. Also, price is much too high. Compare your pricing to video streaming services with so much content and so much spending on the production of that content - your price is not justified.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Don’t want to throw your money away? Don’t get this app
They auto charge you over $100 after the first week for a year subscription to read summaries of literally 25 books. Incredibly disappointed and now out $100, something I can’t reverse and can’t afford. The animations are fun and cute and I could see them potentially helping out in the memory process but seriously guys? It’s a clear money grab. I want my money back. I doubt that will happen but I will keep this review updated if anything changes.
