I was not aware that this would be a monthly charge for a one time find a person's address and location in the United States. I would like to remove this charge from my bank account. Thank you for your immediate attention to this matter. Please do not charge my account for the month of May 2014. Also remove April's charge of 19.95. I cannot afford this monthly charge. If you note, I have used this service one time to locate a person I needed to remit funds.

I heard through the grapevine that my exhusband was in jail so I logged on to Intellius to check it out. They charged me $19.95 for 15 year old information. Now, 2 months later, they have charged $19.95 to my debit card for nothing. I did not authorize a continuing charge. I want it to stop immediately and the current charge to be removed.

Intelius unlawful charges to my cred. card

This company occasionally submits charges of $20.95 to my credit card without my permission. Apparently INTELIUS.COM is a people search online activity which I don't use, never had motive to use and although, I have requested a new credit card number, the charges continue to happen. This is not only bazzar but to my understanding this constitutes stealing from people. I don't know how INTELIUS.COM has access to my account, but even if they access people's accounts like the IRS may do, who the hell authorizes them to do what they are doing? I think the Internal Revenue Service is the only intity that may excercise direct withdraw without previous permission and even doing so one would have had receive a series of notices before such action is taken. I have not received anything and don't know how and why this INTELIUS.COM may do this. Can anyone please do something to stop this action. I call the number listed on their site and never get through a live human being.

I thought I was paying a one-time charge of $19.95 to get background info on a person. Instead I subscribed to an identity protection package that I did not want or need! This site is very deceiving, but the worst thing is, they will NOT refund any of the money for your monthly "subscription" to something you don't even know about. Don't ever give your credit card number to Intelius!

Beware when you use intelius.com. When you check out, you are tricked into subscribing to a 7-day trial membership, but you don't know it until you see your credit card bill weeks later. Even if you cancel, you get no refund. Why would you buy a membership anyway? There's no savings unless you use the service more than twenty times a month. Avoid Intelius. com!

Intelius gave out my bank card number

I signed up for Intelius to check to make sure a cop who has a lot of computer skills and access to records and computers in our county, was not posting false information to our names, because we had turned in a family member of his for selling photos of kids online linked to mature photos and content. Only to have Intelius sell or give out or bank account information to two websites who withdrew monthly fees from our account for over a year. Hey husband thought it was a service we use and didn't think twice about it until I noticed it and had no idea who they were. After some research these sights were supposedly clicked on during the Intelius payment section, yet they never sent a confirmation or evidence that I had clicked on them. Not only did they take over $1000 from us, a couple of times we had cancelled our card and we found that they somehow gained access to the new account saying we gave them per mission to follow our account! No way would we have ever done this! How scary is this! The bank would only go after the last two payments taken from them. What a scam this site is. Be very cautious! What ###, playing on people's emotions to check out their Internet status, as well as creeps that could be involved with children, then screw them in such a way! I waited and NEVER received the evidence that Intelius said proved I clicked on these two sites I supposedly signed up for!

Intelius offers a variety of promotions during the checkout process. It sounds like some of our memberships may have been activated during the purchase of a report. The Identity Protection Membership is activated through the acceptance of discounted pricing for the report. The discounted price selection describes the activation of the Identity Protection Membership, which is initially a seven day free trial. Intelius unauthorized charges

I did a search online (once) on Intelius' website and I only authorized $6.95 to be taken off my credit card and they took that ($6.95) PLUS 19.95 which was unauthorized. When you do a one-time search, you're automatically put into a year long program (called membership), where they'll take 19.95 off your credit card every month -- BUT THEY DON'T TELL YOU THIS WHEN YOU DO THE SEARCH. You never authorize it. You don't discover it until you check your credit card balance and transactions and then you learn it. You can call customer service and complain and it'll be credited back to you and the "membership" cancelled -- but it VERY DEVIOUS AND FRAUDULENT that they do this without your consent. No where on their website does it show that you become a member and will be charged $19.95 a month (starting immediately). Their practice is devious and fraudulent. I can't believe they haven't been shut down.

I did a background check with Intelius and they gave me a subscription for $19.95/mo for identity protection! A service I never asked for, never authorized! THEY ARE STEALING from consumers! Then they make you wait 20 minutes on hold so they hope you hang up! I am disgusted! I am calling the better biz bureau! How can someone charge you for a service never purchased/authorized, etc... I used Intelius for one time transaction just to find a person and the tool is very much user-friendly and easy to navigate. The service fee was charged yet I received an additional $20 charge several weeks later saying I have also purchased a 'Identity Protection Package' which I have never authorized this transaction and the order has never shown in my first transaction.

I called the customer service and it took me about an hour to get through; their customer service rep responded my dissatisfaction with 'there's nothing we can do because it comes along with your first people search purchase; therefore we cannot offer any refund.'

The ridiculous thing is, this identity protection has a totally different order number and if what he said is true, why I did NOT see any indication of this additional charge when I purchased their service the first time!?

Their search tool may be useful, but I am very disappointed about how they used my account info and charge me for something I have not been notified or aware of - I consider this almost like a deceit rubbing customers' money & rights.

I was charged and paid $4.95 for a valid search that I undertook. However, every month thereafter they have been charging me $19.95 for a subscription service that I did not knowingly authorize. And I don't believe that I have ever actually received anything from them for this. Unfortunately for me it's been going on for 6 months before I noticed it. I have asked AMEX to investigate the billing so at least the last 60 days of charges will be reversed. I tried calling them and got the automated message essentialyy saying " your call is very important to us but we are experiencing a lot of call volume and it will take 20 minutes to get to you so please go to our website...click".

Seems like a scam company! The website looks pretty legit. ...management team and credible board. Surprised that they would be associated with this type of practice. Glad I noticed this before the sum of money got to be too large.

Intelius billing practices

Like many other people who have commented on Intelius, I used the service once to look up a phone number only to find during a review of credit card bills that I was being billed $19.95 per month for a service I did not sign up for. The good news is that some persistence on the phone with customer service resulted in five of six $19.95 bills being refunded. If you go this route, be tough because they'll start out offering to refund one bill, then two and so on. I just kept repeating that I was going to dispute all six charges with my credit card company. So, if you've been scammed, call and hang tough.

I appreciate your response, and the fact the company offered a refund on most of the charges. However, I would argue that you need to change your "opt-out" business model before you can be considered truly customer friendly. People should have to explicitly ask for a specific service, not be signed up just because they used a different, one-time service.

Intelius membership fee

Did the one time $0.99 charge to do a reversal phone look up. Did not receive any information on the number except that they could not find any information on the phone number. It was suppose to be a one time fee. Now they have charged me twice for $19.95 & have sent my bank account into over drawn. REALLY? One time fee, turns into $19.95 charges and you couldnt even give me the information on the phone number I wanted in the first place! Now I see all these complains on this website. I went onto their website to cancel the membership (That I never agreed too!) and have my husband calling customer service to see if they will refund any of the money they took from us that was not agreed upon. GEESH !

Intelius bogus (hidden) charges

This site sells an information package (or several types) that you can use to look up information of people (ie: old addresses, phone numbers, etc). When you purchase the package (usually $4-$10), they are "sneaking" in a monthly subscription that costs $19.95 a month for some sort of credit monitoring program. They will cancel it and not charge you IF you do so within 7 days of your order. The problem is, they don't TELL you that you are buying it until it shows up on your credit card transactions...exactly 8 days later.

Be warned, there are hundreds or thousands of businesses out there that DON'T have to stoop to deceptive practices to get enough money to stay in business. Avoid this company (and any other) that feels compelled to "sneak" additional charges on your original purchase.

Scammers, deceivers, liars, crooks...they should all be shot.

Thanks to this website I have just managed to cancel my Intelius 'membership' - I agree that the way it is done is sneaky in the extreme. I thought I was signing up for a $4 address check, and I suddenly noticed, looking through my credit card bills, that TWO unwanted and as far as I am concerned unauthorised payments, totalling $32 or so, have been taken from my credit card. I am ABSOLUTELY FURIOUS, and I have cancelled immediately, but in my view to do business like this should be illegal - the fact that there were 'continuing payments' was in the smallest of small print, and I certainly didn't understand what I was letting myself in for. Intelius, you should be ashamed of yourselves.

Intelius scam? oh, yes!

Very interesting. The registration asks if you want identity protect, and allows you to reject it. But once rejected, it automatically signs you up for it, anyway. Now I have to go through disputing any unauthorized charges to my credit card. Then they claim they will only remove your data from their system if you send them a copy of a legal ID, like drivers license, etc. Very bad news. Stay away from these people, definitely a scam.

I did order some info on a property in Buffalo, N.Y. The cost was less than $5.00. They took $5.00 from my account, and then $1995. I did not authorize the $19.95. What can I do to get it back and not have them charge me more? My complaint earlier today was not accurate. This account is!

I too have been scammed by them. I can't get them to stop charging this amount! When you call them, they tell you that you could be on hold for up to 20 minutes! And then they cut you off. I can't get an answer by email either. I am dipsuting these charges but who knows what will happen with these charges.

I had an agreement with Netspend, a monthly $9.95 fee or $1 per transaction. Last month Intellius deducted $19.95 for "purchase", I didn't purchase anything from them. They did this month too!
If they changed their charges they should've notified us at least.

Intelius fraudulent charges

Fraudulent and Unauthorized Charges:
Just today 031212, I discovered that these people offer a onetime reverse phone look up for a small fee $0.95 that I accepted to pay on the 092711, when I gave them my payment information on 092711 just to pay this $ 0.95, they started charging to my credit card a monthly subscription of $ 19, 95 to the service for a monthly fee that I never asked, even though I said NO to the monthly subscription.

Intelius unauthorized charges

These people offer a one time reverse phone look up for a small fee $2 to $5 then when you give them your payment information they offer you a monthly subscription to the service for a monthly fee. Even though you say NO to the monthly subscription, once you give them your payment information they just enroll you anyway and the charges just start appearing on your statement.

I noticed-- in Monitoring my Chase Mastercard--that there were unauthorized charges of $19.95 debited to my account on 12/30/2010. I have no idea what this would be for, and did not AUTHORIZE ANY transaction
to anyone for this amount. I called the phone # for this account, and learned that this 'SB Family Fun Rewards '--is some program handled/offered by JCPenney CO. --I HAVE NOT PURCHASED, NOR DONE BUSINESS IN ANY WAY WITH JCPENNEY FOR OVER 6 YEARS !
The only thing it says on my Chase Mastercard bill is a charge of $19.95 from: Int*Intelius SB
with a transaction # 55432860364000258076545 ---no other explanation is given.
I WANT MY NAME REMOVED IMMEDIATELY FROM THIS UNSOLICITED 'PROGRAM' ( WHATEVER it is ) AND I WANT THIS CHARGE REFUNDED TO MY CHASE MASTERCARD IMMEDIATELY.

I was monitoring my bank statement and noticed I was charged $19.95 twice, once on the 3rd of January 2011, and again on 5 January 2011 for the INT*INTELIUS SB, the People Search program. I have not done any searches there since I first joined. I have cancelled my membership, however I don't understand the extra $19.95 charge.

In January of 2011, I signed up with Intelius to look up a phone number for me for the fee of $0.99. I understood that with it, I would have to sign up for a free trial membership with the company but could cancel prior to free trial ending. I found the service to not be helpful but figured that for $0.99, there's not much I could really expect. Shortly after, I canceled the membership that I was OBLIGATED to sign up for. I just realized today that I had still been charged $19.95 ever since then. I should have reviewed all the charges on my statement sooner but I've never experienced this type of unethical practice before. When I contacted Itelius about these unauthorized charges, they stated that I didn't completely cancel my account as I was misled to believe. Intelius purposely manipulates customers by signing them up for TWO memberships. So while I assumed I canceled my account with them, they happily charged me for something I did not want or ask for. I am outraged that they are able to continue to cheat people out of their hard earned money. I spoke with Manual and then his supervisor Kim (#8738) and while they repeated their scripted apology, stated that they could only give me a refund for three months. They know that they are wrong but are only willing to resolve 30% of their crimes.

Naveen Jain is the founder of Intelius. His company rips people off through various techniques (internet pop up ads etc.). Once they have your info, the only way to stop their repeated bogus charges is to call your card issuer and submit a Declaration of Unauthorized Use. You must specify the exact charges that were fraudulent by attaching copies of your statements, then your bank gets to decide if they want to credit your account or not. Even though Intelius is clearly a company that depends largely on fraudulent charges for undesired services, it turns out that many companies, including Apple (iTunes) and Microsoft and many other "legitimate" companies generate lots of fraud complaints to credit card issuers. As such, MasterCard and Visa et al seem unlikely at this point to reject Intelius charge requests. One may always write to Naveen Jain and tell him what you think of his garbage company and their unethical business practices: naveen@intelius.com. Or you could send him a letter to his home at 8206 Overlake Drive W, Bellevue, WA.

I paid somewhere around $4.95 for a reverse look up on one occasion. I immediately cancelled the service after and was charged $21.67 on my last credit card statement. When I called Intelius to look into this, they said their hours started at 5:00 A.M., but no one responded. I am very frustrated.

I thought I got scammed to but whenI called my bank they told me there was nothing they can do about cuz it does tell you that once you do the one time fee they automaticlly sign you up for the 7 day free trail and to cancel before then or they will charge you the 19.95 a month. SO ALWAYS READ EVERYTHING BEFORE YOU GIVE OUT YOUR CREDIT/DEBIT INFORMATION! This is what it says before you hit the continue button. Read Below!

Offer and Continuous Renewal Details:
By clicking the "Continue" button you will activate your trial membership and get access to the great benefits that Identity Protect has to offer. The membership fee of $19.95 plus tax where applicable per month, will be charged/debited by Intelius.com to the credit/debit card you enter today after your 7-day trial and then automatically charged/debited each month at the then-current monthly membership fee so long as you remain a member. If you wish to cancel during your 7-day trial, you can either cancel by calling us at [protected] or visiting the “MyIntelius” section of the Intelius.com website. Within the first 7 days - you will have paid nothing and owe nothing. After the 7-day trial you may also cancel your membership at any time by calling us or by visiting the website. Either way, if you cancel you will not be charged for future monthly fees. If you use a debit card today and you do not cancel within 7 days, beginning on or after 7 days from now, your monthly membership fee for Identity Protect will be automatically debited each month on or about the same date from the checking account associated with your debit card so long as you remain a member. If you use a credit card, it will be charged similarly each month. Identity monitoring begins the Sunday following your enrollment. Therefore, in some cases, identity monitoring will not be a part of your free trial. Intelius and its benefit providers are not credit repair service providers and do not receive fees for such services, nor are they credit clinics, credit repair or credit services organizations or businesses, as defined by federal and state law.

Check to also make sure they didn't give your bank card number and information to other websites that will start charging monthly fees and even follow your account if you cancel the card and get a new one. They will say you clicked on and signed up for these during the payment process and gave permission for them to have access to your account in this way but when you ask them to send evidence that you did this you get NOTHING from them! Check you statements for unknown or familiar charges from websites. Make sure you contact your bank right away!

Intelius be aware

I searched a phone number on google and saw a link to this company. I received a guarantee that I would be given the contact information of a person who called me. I would pay 95 cents for a trial and then I would get the information. after paying for the trial I was given information that was not at all helpful. I wasn't even given a name even though I was promised to be given a correct name.
They said satisfaction was guaranteed so I contacted them to try to cancel my order and my membership. iwas told that I could get intelius credit but not a refund which annoyed me but it was just 95 cents so oh well. however 7 days later I was charged $19.95 for a membership even though I had already contacted intelius trying to cancel my order before the 7 days were up. I ended up paying $21 for nothing...

The fact that your office closed out my complaint is tantamount to the police telling a stop sign violator that they dropped charges since driver eventually did stop later that week.

Can't the state of Washington realize that due to the sheer numbers of consumer complaints against Intelius that hundreds of victims can't all be accused of not being bright enough to click the proper button for the .95 one time special look-up and not "a club membership" for $19.95?

I now consider the office of the Attorney Generals office complicit in the fraudulent practices commonplace to Intelius day to day business. I am also copy and pasteing this correspondence to the many blogs Googled as "Intelius Scam"

Your State legislative branch is corrupt due to non-enforcement of Internet trade practices.

RE: Larry Ross
File #: 408470 Complaint
Hello KELLY OSHIRO:
Intelius customers are presented with a two tier pricing structure when purchasing reports on the Intelius website. They have the option of paying the full price, or a discounted promotional price which includes a 7 day trial in the Identity Protect subscription offered through Intelius. When a customer selects the promotional price, they are redirected to a full page display that describes in detail the benefits of the subscription and the terms and conditions of the offer. By choosing to proceed with the purchase at the promotional price, the customer agrees to the terms and conditions of the promotional offer.
In this case, Mr. Ross accepted the promotional offer and signed up for the Intelius Identity Protect membership.
As requested, Mr. Ross’ Identity Protect membership was canceled on 05/08/2012 within the 7 day trial. The pending transaction of $19.95 was canceled and should be available within 3-5 business days.
We appreciate your cooperation in resolving this matter and apologize for any inconvenience.

I have had the same thing happen to me. I have life-lock! Why would i even sign up for a 7 day trial? Since i didn't know i was getting this service (which i have been paying for for almost a year), I can't cancel it online (because I don't know where to go). I have been on hold for 20 minutes so far. OK, they canceled it. But it's still horrible that they don't refund you your money, considering that I NEVER wanted this service in the first place! This company has to scam people to make money, so don't trust them to protect your identity. LifeLock rocks!

I recently saw a monthly charge from this company for $19.95. I went through my credit card statements and found they've been charging me for 7 months for a single person search I did in December 2010. I contacted [protected] (option 1). I expressed my complaint and told them I wanted it stopped and I would be pursuing them for a full refund via my credit card company. A supervisor was contacted and I was told I would receive A FULL REFUND. We'll see if this comes to pass. I see there are thousands of complaints on this. I suggest you ring this number, be calm and they might do for you what they've said they'll do for me.

For the last three months this company has been using my checkcard to charge me $19.95 for services never requested. This month alone I have been charged two times. I wish this to stop, and money returned to my account. I have tried to contact this company through e-mails with no result.

I also have a reoccurring charge that should have been a one-time trial. I have called and emailed to stop the charges, but they keep coming. Now I've contacted my charge card company to have them intercede on my behalf. This company is a rip-off!

I have had to close me account as the only way to stop the charges...this company is a rip off.

I used it once to look up an address for my security clearance in May and have been charged $19.95 for every two weeks...By the time I contacted to company I had already given them (Because I didn't read the fine print) over $200! I thought it was over after they said me account had be canceled, but no I still got charged. I eventually closed my bank account because the bank refused to stop the payments or dispute the charges. The sad thing is it is all legal I bet. Because when you “Agree to the Terms and conditions” you have made a contract and unless you read the entire thing you could be agreeing to anything, like being charged fir a service that equals over $500 a year.

I have been billed $19.95 per month by this company since June 2011. I called and canceled this morning and was told that I should have seen the small type under the one time phone number search for $0.99. Does anyone know where I can file an official complaint? I'd like to see them modify their website and at the very least increase the size of the font that indicates a membership. Who on earth would pay $19.95 per month for a telephone directory? They got me for 6 months and will not refund the money!
