Stay away from this product at all costs. I used just for men facial hair dye on my goatee. I did the test with it & had no problem then I applied it for the first time & it was fine. Used it again about 2 weeks later & all of sudden I felt an annoying itch I thought it just dried my skin out a little then it started burning & itching but I couldn't see what was happening to my face untill I shaved I had pimple looking bumps filled with puss enflamed skin on my chin severe burning & itching puffed out & dark red. There should be a class action lawsuit against this company for putting out a dangerous product also in irritates eyes & has a bad chemical smell.

@Tasha I see you removed the post about my mother killing herself, what was that even too LOW for you?

You can delete it, but you can never take it back. We all have already witnessed your pettiness & how low a human can really sink.

I have used this product for 8 years on a weekly basis without a problem. MY last purchase was in December 2011 at CVS. As with any hair coloring agent, there will be a small percentage of the population that will experience an allergic reaction. Then, the same goes for ice cream, peanuts, onions, pet dander, pollen, etc. It's best to be tested by a reputable Allergist for a definitive answer.

Also, it is quite normal to develop allergies as one gets older.

Show me an example OTHER THAN THIS where an "allergy" causes a chemical-like burn and festering, oozing blisters.

I could see if I was the only one complaining, yeah it's an allergy...but when you have a MASS EPIDEMIC like this, how can you just say that suddenly ALL these people who have never had a problem with this product simultaneously get the EXACT SAME allergic reaction.

C'mon you're not be honest to yourselves' you know that's mathematically improbable.

Bottom line is this company changed their formula for whatever reason & now we have been made to suffer because of it.

I too have had a horrible reaction from JFM. I have been using it on my goatie for years. NO PROBLEMS. I loved this product. In late January I used JFM Mustache & Beard, Jet Black in the usual manner, and then shaved in the usual manner. I use triple blade disposable razors. I usually put Cortizone cream on my face after I shave, and the days to follow. (I am a dark skin African-American, we are sometimes prone to razor bumps). Shortly afterwards I noticed a small swell and light spot on my chin on the hairline of my goatie. In the week to follow it got larger. I used JFM again a few weeks later. (Like most of you, I didn't initially think that JFM was the cause). After this next application and shave I did not put on Cortizone cream. I was immediately going out to dinner (the cortizine cream leaves my face shiny and greasy...not the dinner look I was going for). Shortly after dinner my hairline around my goatie began to BURN. When I looked in the mirror it was swollen. The burn increased and swelling increased rapidly. I went straight to a Walgreeens and bought some cortizone cream and Abreva (desperate!). I damn near put the cream on while on the checkout line! These items took away the burning and reduced the swelling somewhat. (I believe the first flare up wasn't so bad because I used the cortizone cream). My face is still a little swollen and the areas that "burned" are lighter then the rest of my dark skin, and have peeled. THIS IS NOT AN ALLERGIC REACTION. It is a chemical problem with the JFM product! I am going to post the product code, and where I purchased my JFM. Others please do so also. Maybe we can get some sort of idea or direction as to this REAL issue. -- Product code Z11L131 (found stamped/embossed on top of box). Purchased at Walmrart, Farmingdale L.I. NY.

I wish a lawyer would check these posts, & tell us where we stand since this isn't an isolated incident & NOT an allergic reaction!

They changed their formula & it's causing pain & anguish something needs to be done here!

Plus they seem to run the gambit on this type of product, so we're slaves to it unless we just want to go grey.
I know with me being only 37 it's too early for the grandpa look.

I am a 46 year old Black Man who has used this product for
Years. This year, using the mustache and gotee formula, I had
The same clear ooze each day and the crust to remove in the
Morning. Didn't attribute it to JFM because The problem
Occurred on my upper lip and not my chin. I shaved everthing off
And went to my doctor. I spent over $300 in medications which
Included an antibiotic. He though it was ringworm. Needless to
Say the problem web away, but because I didn't associate this
With JFM, it came back. My top lip is now discolored. Let's sue!

First of all, I would like to say I like your product. I have been using it for better than 10 years now and have a complant about the packaging on the tubes for the mustache and beard dye.
I had a stroke and do not have full mobility of my left arm . In the last few boxes of the dye, the tubes have been to hard to open.
It is like you need two wrenches to open them.
Please look into this matter so that it is easier to open.
I believe that at a cost of almost $9.00 a box, I should get some reimburment for 4 boxes, (2 for the ones I have already paid for and 2 for a complimentary bonus.)

The JFM website has very positive reviews of their products. See: http://www.justformen.com/products/facialcolor/ratings.asp so they are obviously censoring the ratings. I submitted my honest review and will be shocked if they post it.

For the most part, it appears everyone who has posted or is reading this forum has experienced similar reactions (itchy skin, skin flaking like dandruff, oozing, bleeding, etc.) after using Just For Men for the beard and moustache.

I have been using Just For Men for my beard and moustache for several years without any problems. The earliest recollection I have of my first reaction of itchy and flaky skin was around November or December of 2011. I recall looking at my face in the mirror while at work. It was hard NOT to notice all the flaking of the skin. I thought it must have been the lights reflection and didn't make anything of it. A couple of days later, I again saw my skin flaking and it was now starting to itch. The next morning, I used a dandruff shampoo and scrubbed my beard and moustache for 5 minutes. After waiting for my skin to dry, I noticed the skin began to show signs of flaking and this is the first time I noticed red spot, minor bleeding. For the next few weeks, I began liberally applying lotion to the affected areas twice a day and this didn't help much other than control the itching. I than tried using baby oil to really penetrate the skin and this seemed to work a little better. I carried around the Cortisone stick and applied it to the affected areas couple of times a day.

Like most people, I took a risk and tried coloring the beard and moustache about 5 weeks after the first reaction. Immediately within 24 hours, I began to notice the same symptoms.

I consulted a doctor at Kaiser Permanente and told him of the symptoms I was experiencing. He said many patients have complained about similar situations and I was lucky my face and neck areas didn't swell. He had seen worse cases than mine of people using hair color. He said hair color has very harsh chemicals.

I'm NOT a doctor, so please consult your doctor before following my potential solution. I'm just informing everyone what seemed to work for me.

FIRST SOLUTION:
The doctor recommended I use Betamethasone Dipropionate Lotion USP, 0.05%. He said this is much better to fight the reactions I was having than standard lotions and oils. This lotions works like a charm but has to be prescribed by the doctor.

SECOND SOLUTION:
Let your skin heal for couple of months. Don't use any hair color. During this time, don't be over concerned about your looks. If your hair turns 3/4 white, let it be.

THIRD SOLUTION:
Substitute using Just For Men with Clairol Natural Instincts for Men. The local Walgreens by my house carries it. The Clairol Natural Instincts for Men product either has no Ammonia or very little Ammonia. According to my wife, she said Ammonia is a very harsh on the skin. Clairol Natural Instincts for Men can be used on your head hair and is safe to use on the beard and moustache. I have used this 4 times and had no reactions.

FOURTH SOLUTION:
Before applying Clairol Natural Instincts for Men to your hair, make sure to liberally apply hair conditioner to the areas where the skin reactions used to occur. In essence, you are creating a barrier between your skin and the hair color. The hair color has to penetrate through the conditioner before affecting the skin.

just for men beard dye---couple years and no problems. right now face swollen-burning-itching-blisters. something has to be different in formula and someone needs to correct the problem. for the ones that haven't had this problem yet they cannot realize the pain. appears no one has an answer to stop the swelling and irritation without going to a doctor. who can afford that now days?

JFM contains Phenylenediamine. It is a chemical found in most hair dyes and causes an allergic response in the body that can cause breathing difficulties, rashes or dysfunction of the liver or kidneys. This chemical has recently been banned in Canada, France and Germany.

I have used Just for men for almost 10 years and found it excellent and would definitely recommend. Ofcourse every product has its own side effects, so is this. But what if the number of people who benefited post on this forum of their experiences. Definitely many and many had good things to say about this product. Sorry for those who had reaction to this product, i will definitely recommend.

In the ER now. This is my 4th day since using product. First 24 hours almost no reaction. Each day after that is getting worse. Dr says to use pregnozone (spelling). Hope that works. This product has ruined one of my very few vacations.

I have been using JFM beard dye for about six months. I keep a close shaved beard so I have been applying it about twice a week. I use dark brown... number 45 I think. I started getting swollen lips about three months ago. It felt like a cold sore was about to develop... but then it would go away after a day or two. I would have a nasty taste in my mouth for a few days. I then started to develop itchy red blotches under my beard. My beard actually would thin out in the areas that developed the pimple like blotches. I started using Vaseline face cream for men to help moisturize my skin. This relieved some of the incessant itching. I now have developed an upset stomach that starts the same night after I have applied JFM in the morning. I noticed that it lessens with each day that I don't apply the product. I just made the connection after reading this blog. I applied it yesterday morning and had a terrible night with upset stomach last night. This has been a pattern for several weeks now. I wasn't sure what was causing the upset stomach...but I am now certain that I have been poisoning my system with this stuff. I will not use JFM ever again. I only hope that I haven't caused any serious damage to my system.

I agree that they know they are selling a product that can cause all these problems, I called the Consumer Line and they said, well stop using the product. Really! The skin test suggestion is just that, there is no warning of all the problems that can occur, the itching was real bad day 2 and 3, the scabbing/puss started after day 3, it's been 6 days since I used it and still my skin is scabbed under the hair. The result of no grey was great for the 1st two days, then it starts looking washed out/dingy. Stay away from Just for Men.
