We bought our crib 'cause we liked the layout and the option to switch things up
We bought our crib 'cause we liked the layout and the option to switch things up. Gotta say, wouldn't go with Kit again. The cupboards are alright, but this pull-out shelf keeps falling off the track. The appliances are total junk, had to replace 'em within the first year. The plastic sink in the kitchen got wrecked right away. Had to swap out both toilets. Looked like they squashed the cord for the stove when they installed it. The doors are all wonky and don't latch properly. The plans took a whole 6 weeks longer than they said, which messed up the contractor's schedule for another 6 weeks. Plus, it arrived smack in the middle of winter, so we had to repaint the edges. So many leaks and plumbing disasters that we had to slice open the tub to fix 'em. The house was overrun with mice, had to store all our food in plastic containers. It's been two years and we still got sticky traps everywhere. The walls are all crooked and uneven. I've been in construction for 50 years, and in my expert opinion, Kit must hire a bunch of unskilled workers with no supervision.
Worst home buying experience ever!
Worst home buying experience ever! My Kit manufactured home is a mess. The window frames are all crooked, and the heating ducting makes a loud noise every time it turns off, like more than 150 times! The siding is a disaster, with two different colors and it's not even properly installed. The exterior door frame is also defective, and I had to spend $400 to fix a plumbing leak in the wall. They fight me at every step when I ask for help. They promise to fix things, but then months go by without any communication. They always blame someone else, like the dealer or say it's built to code. Who cares if I can't use my heater in freezing Montana winters? I've dealt with both Ron and Douglas, and they still haven't fixed the problems. They were quick to take my money, but their customer service is absolutely terrible! I'm ashamed to call this place my home. The siding looks so bad with two different shades, and now they won't even cover "fading." Seriously? It's only been one spring since I moved in, and it's already faded? No, it's been like this since they installed it in the winter. I will never, ever do business with Kit again. It's so awful that I've even sought legal advice. Kit Homes, you need to take responsibility for your faulty product. It's just awful, awful, awful!
I got hooked up with Kit HomeBuilders West, LLC through Craftsman Homes in Reno, NV
I got hooked up with Kit HomeBuilders West, LLC through Craftsman Homes in Reno, NV. My wife and I chose our dream house back in February. It took a solid 4 weeks to receive our quote. After that, we got the green light from a lender and signed a contract to have our home built. We put down a hefty $10,000 to get things rolling. They told us it would take about 10 to 12 months for the house to be finished and shipped to the building site.
So, we headed out to rural Nevada, where we wanted to set up our new home. We bought the land, drilled a well, and got the power up and running. We spent a good chunk of our hard-earned cash to make all of this happen. We were eagerly waiting for the pier load and utility drop prints so we could start building the foundation. But then, our agent at Craftsman Homes dropped a bombshell on us.
They told us that Kit HomeBuilders was not honoring the prices they had quoted in the contract. Instead, they were offering something called "price protection" for an extra $32,000. They said this additional amount had to be paid by the time the house was set on the foundation, which was still 9 months away. Now, I get that prices can change, but $32,000 is a huge sum of money. We're on a tight budget, and there's no way we can come up with that kind of cash in just 9 months. Even if we tried to add it to the loan, it would exceed the appraisal value, and we'd end up paying out of our own pockets anyway.
To put it simply, they dragged their feet, took my money, and gave me false hope. They let me spend even more money on this project, only to price me out at the last minute. I'm extremely disappointed in their deceptive tactics and the fact that they wasted my time and money with this unexpected turn of events.
How many crackheads does it take to build a Kit (cough cough) * Custom home?
How many crackheads does it take to build a Kit (cough cough) Custom home? Custom as in every turd is polished differently? Custom as in no tape measurers, levels, or intelligence was used in assembly? Maybe custom as in how many times can they recycle broken, dented, scratched parts until the foolish people that paid good money give up and stop complaining... I've lived in trailers before, and let's not kid ourselves, these are trailers thrown together, not by skilled craftsmen, but by the available labor pool. I've been in constant contact with the factory, so much so, that Ron doesn't take my calls anymore, although after reading the last commentor I'm sure he's shell shocked. I'm now relegated to Douglas who needs permission to ship out necessary materials. Douglas last told me the plant was shut down due to covid 19, but I don't care! I'm still living in a travel trailer because the house isn't finished. Why should I put furniture into a house to have the finish crew still mudding walls after months of the house being on the foundation? I'm telling you now that these are trashy clown houses without any quality. Not what the lot models are, and if they are, then tear apart the lot models to see how badly they are built. It's bad enough to see what is out in the open, but what I can't see scares me more. Kit needs to step up, stop blaming the customer, and build what they promise. Because they get paid upfront they assume any crap will suffice, and because they conveniently can't find records doesn't mean concerns weren't expressed. I'm also to a point of fixing and replacing low budget materials in a house I'm not even living in. Do yourself a favor and buy those cheaper trailers. At least you'll know you bought cheap.
Brand new home delivered and set up on 9/1
Brand new home delivered and set up on 9/1. I've emailed KIT multiple times about this issue, but haven't received a reply as of mid-November. The home is nice, we bought a *** sq ft Cedar Canyon *** model. We live on several acres in the desert in an HOA and chose to have *** floors throughout the home due to dust and dirt, typical of desert living. We picked out the "marriage line/threshold/transition" and were told it wouldn't be an exact match, which we understood. During the walk-through, it seemed to sit high and we weren't thrilled, but that's how it is, we were told. After living in it for a while, we realized that the 29ft x 5inch part of the marriage line, which is fully exposed due to the open floor plan (and about 10+ ft in the bedroom), has become a slippery strip in our home. This piece is a guaranteed hazard! I have slipped, my husband has slipped, and even our dog has slipped, but luckily no falls yet. It's only a matter of time before someone gets hurt, especially if they're wearing socks (which is most of the time for us). Even if you wear shoes or go barefoot (although one friend tripped on the lip), you should be okay, but here we take our shoes off. So socks are what we wear around here 99% of the time. I actually own an exercise "slide board" used by hockey *** skaters, and the marriage line is just as slippery without stoppers. It's crazy slippery! We've had to buy several carpet runners to place over the line, and now our lovely home looks ridiculous. It's embarrassing to explain to people why we have rugs all over and that we have to live like this. It doesn't matter whether we spend $1000 or $200 on rugs, it looks awful for a new home! The dealer hasn't provided any solutions or resolutions, they just told us to contact KIT. But KIT hasn't been helpful either, just emails back and forth and suggesting we contact a floor person in our area. What can be done? We were never offered the option to have the flooring put in after the sections were delivered, which would have eliminated the line. Is this true? Why wasn't it offered to us? We would have gladly spent the money to do it that way, knowing what we know now! There were so many options we were never made aware of, and I mentioned that in the emails I sent, but it seems like no one is listening. We just want the home we bought to be safe for everyone to walk into, without having to cover it with rugs. We don't want to constantly worry about slipping and falling or having to caution everyone who enters our home. We just want to walk through our pretty home without rugs and without the fear of accidents. The only reason nothing worse has happened is because of the rugs and cautioning anyone who enters. We'll consult an attorney if we have to, and do whatever it takes to get some help and satisfaction. Maybe we'll be told it's not worth the fight, but to us, it's worth it because it's a hazard waiting to happen.

The houses from Kit HomeBuilders West, LLC have a lot of problems, and the quality is really bad
The houses from Kit HomeBuilders West, LLC have a lot of problems, and the quality is really bad. But the biggest issue is with the *** adura max flooring, it's coming up and causing trouble. We reached out to Kit homes in Boise, the builder, Eastern Oregon homes in LaGrande Oregon, the dealer, and *** floors. *** asked for pictures, and after looking at them, they said it's not their fault. Right now, we're just taping down the flooring so nobody trips and falls. Kit Homes got the same message from ***. We're taking the next step and getting a certified flooring inspector to come and check it out.
