They have no clue what they are doing when it comes to filing an amendment. My husband and I filed our taxes in feb. And it is now may and we have yet to recieve our return. They have our return tied up with the irs because they have no clue what they are doing when it comes to amendments!! I have tried multiple times to contact them about this issue, I...

Liberty tax didnt file my returns. I went in person to their office and submitted all documents in early march. They promptly encashed the fees and lied to me that they had filed my returns. When I called them the end of march, they told me they are yet to file it and will file in few days. Its now the end of april and they have not yet filed it

I filed my 2008 return at Liberty Tax in Angier, NC. They automatically deducted their fees from my IRS refund and stated I could not have a copy of my 2008 taxes until they received payment from the IRS, as a result I was unable to review my tax return. My taxes had multiple errors on them, one of which the IRS notified me in writing about. I complained to...

I went to Liberty Tax Service in March of 2008 to prepare my federal and state income tax returns for 2007. They completed the forms and I wrote them a personal check for their fee on March 25, 2008.
Three months later I was notified by the Rhode Island Department of taxation that my income tax return for 2007 had been miscalculated and that I owed an additional $958.00 plus penalties and interest. I contacted Liberty Tax Service and they admitted that it was their fault that the error occurred but did nothing else to help me remedy the errors. I paid the amount the RI Taxation department said I owed including penalties and interest.
In addition to this issue, I noticed that the check I paid Liberty Tax Services for their fee had not cleared my bank for several months. Since the check was written on March 25, 2008, it would not be valid after September 25, 2008 according to my bank. After September 25, 2008 I no longer kept the funds in my account to cover that check since it was no longer valid.
On October 3, 2008 the check cleared my account causing the account to be overdrawn and incurring overdraft penalties by my bank. I looked at the canceled check and realized that the date had been altered prior to it being deposited in Liberty Tax Service's bank on October 2, 2008. The date had been originally written as 3/25/2008 it was altered to read 8/25/2008. The alteration extended the time period the check would remain valid. My bank informs me that this constitutes a form of fraud.
I suggest that anyone considering using Liberty Tax Services reconsider and go to another more reputable service.
By the way, this company is NOT affiliated with Liberty Mutual Insurance. I have my home owners and auto insurance with Liberty Mutual and am very satisfied with the services they offer.

Please have Ken Cheshire phone me regarding my 2014 taxes. The I R S has billed me for more owed for that year after I paid them the amount owed for that year per Ken. My name is Michael B. Novosel and I can be reached at [protected]
Just to let everyone know, DO NOT HAVE YOUR TAXES DONE AT LIBERTY! They charged my mom and dad $300 to have their taxes done for filing joint, but charged me OVER $500 for just me. They did not tell me that they were keeping my state refund when I called them on Tuesday. So please take a piece of advice from me, DO NOT HAVE YOUR TAXES DONE BY LIBERTY. They also charged me to have my money directly deposited into my account. So again DO NOT HAVE YOUR TAXES DONE BY LIBERTY TAX SERVICE!
I went to Liberty Tax to have my 2011 state and federal taxes done, never again they ripped me off. There were hidden fees they did not tell me about, the tax breaks that I usually file for they told me I couldnt file for because it didnt apply to me. they told me that it would be better to get direct deposit so I wrote out a check, They wanted to charge me close to $200 for direct deposit so I chose to get a check in the mail. And when I got my check in the mail they had taken out so much for fees, I didnt even get half of what they calculated my refund to be and they did not give me back my cancelled check. And also while the girl did my taxes she played receptionist too, so every time the phone rang she would stop and answer the phone and every time someone came in the door she had to stop and give them papers to fill out. NEVER AGAIN WILL I GO THERE.
Just got informed that we are being audited by Vermont for a lousy tax preperation performed by Liberty Tax Svce.(Had them do our 2009 return.) Also owed state of Ct. over $360.00 after Liberty did the return. They tried to charge me $778.00 for the 1/2 hour visit to their Keene, NH location, but when I showed no sign of ever beginning to accept that rip off attempt, they conveniently reduced the amount to $347.00, $3.00 less than H&R Block charged us the previous year.
The whole thought behind going there in the first place was to reduce the amount we pay ($350.00) for a simple return. They tried to charge double that. Then after everything, we still owed 2 states income tax, and now this audit is taking place. Stay clear of these jokers. Anyone who has to have some weirdos dance around in a Statue of Liberty costume to drum up business has to be shysters...
Liberty Tax Service's eSmart Tax online filing software failed to include any of my 1099s when I filed my 2007 taxes. I didn't realize this until I received notice from the IRS that I owed back taxes and interest. I entered the information on all my 1099s -- I found the information on the website when reviewing my return -- but the software apparently ignored it. The company offers a guarantee to cover any interest, penalties or fees resulting from a software error, but I e-mailed a top marketing official at the company and have received no response. I'll send them copies of all paperwork that I'm sending to the IRS tomorrow and we'll see if they make good on their promise.
abuse/fraud against franchise owner
I too once owned one of their franchises and I totally agree with all your statements. The amount of miss information spouted by the Area Developers and Liberty Tax Corp is sad. I know of other owners who poured their life savings into the franchise and wound up bankrupt, losing a home, their cars and other assets because of the unscrupulous leadership from Liberty Corp. I have filed a report with the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) and encourage you to do so also. Maybe if more owners file complaints we can get a class action lawsuit started against Liberty Corp. and stop more people from flushing their life savings down the drain with this sham of a company.

Here is a good one. Liberty offices in the Port Huron, Fort Gratiot area are not giving out the $50 cash in a flash this year. They tell customers they are not doing it but instruct tax preparers to put in they gave the $50 cash in a flash to the customer. Liberty Corporate reimburses them for every $50 they give out. Nice scam on the owners part. In addition most returns done this year by low income people getting an earned income credit are being charged $562 to $700. Come March when the higher income earners come in the price will be much lower as they won't pay the exhorbitant prices. They take advantage of low income people that need to take out an advance loan. These people are in a hard place and need money fast so they pay the fees. So sad that the poor are taken so advantage of.
We filed our taxes in September 2013( tax extensions ). On December 4, 2013 Our refund was deposited into a Herring Bank account for Liberty Tax. It was rejected ( supposedly)...Called their Bank...got same bogus story.. They say the IRS is not going to re-deposit our due refund ...They don't seem to know WHEN. We will receive it, Could take up to SEVEN WEEKS to get a Paper Check...Y the hell did we Pay these rip-off artist's to Do our Taxes I 'll never know...!?
went to get my taxes done its a simple 1040 EZ they charged me 247.00 then a fee to have it direct depostied into my accout oh wich by the way didnt happen got a paper check instead then I didnt get a state refund because they took it for all there fees in addition to the satifaction garente, they stat its not true all they due nothing when your not sastified its a terrible place to get your taxes done I would not recommend them to anyone unless you want to pay fees ontop of fees and get a small refund when there done I could have dont my own taxes on IRS.gov for free which I didnt know about until it was too late so dont use Liberty tax service in Arkansas there not that great
Last year will be my very last year ever using Liberty Tax Service. I went to the Tax Service on Broadway last year and they completely ripped me off. I was never told of the total charges. I am a single parent with one child. I worked 1 job last year and I make close to nothing. They charged me almost $600 to do my taxes. They did not disclose that information to me at all. I had to find out when I got a copy of my taxes. Good thing I looked through it well because I would have never known how sneaky they are.
I confronted the owner about it. He is a coward he would leave me sitting in the lobby for hours just waiting to talk to him, and try to send one of his workers to fix the problem. When he would talk to me he give me the run around about it saying he would call me back, etc. He never returned any of my calls or even made any attempt to fix the issue. Needless to say I never got any type of explanation as to why they charged me so much or a refund.
Ive had several friends go there and they are just happy to get the $50 cash but what they dont tell you about that $50 is they charge you for it on your taxes. Dont be fooled ladies and gentlemen this place is run by a professional scam artist. If you dont carefully examine your paperwork too you will be duped.
My Dear sir, I thought good long term customer care was profitable for both your franchise and myself, I will say what happened, with no imbelishment.
I am a returning Liberty tax customer . Three weeks before I Had my taxes done by liberty, I was Quoted a price By Bert For 150.
My tax was the same as the previous year, but about 30 grand less on my gross. So I come in three weeks later about march 21, Now Phylis
took all my imformation and I told her at this time about Berts 150. Quote, same as Last year. NOW the following day Phylis calls me and says 248.00 I say Talk to bert, Than I go to pick up my taxes 2 days after this call And BERT says 358.00.. This is totally unfair and I wish for a refund and that you talk with these two employees. This way of Bussiness you wil loose future customers .. Please Reply .
Most Sincerely Neil Benny Rappa
I had a trainning with them and I bought the books for $130, I spend many weeks learning the material, took all the exams to be certified as a Tax Preparer.
I worked during this season for Liberty Tax in Lehigh Acres, FL and they promised to pay 4% of each tax on top of the $8 hourly rate. But they did not pay me because they said that i was not working for the whole season, but they did not call me back because they did not have enough bussines due to the fact that they were charging lots of money for each fill tax.
I know for fact that this company always do the same thing to most of the people that is learning with them.<
They need to stop with this unethical practice, and learn how to make people to work for them for free.
The owner of branch 16212, Mike Reho refuses to compensate employees on time IF at all. He refused to pay my full check, made a total scene in front of an office full of clients, and then tried to accuse me of stealing CIF money before looking in the money bag all before kicking me out in a threatening manner. Still haven't received my check. I know for a fact he has no intention of paying Most staff at any of his locations. I have witnesses to our public, and very unprofessional, disagreement who are willing to make a statement if needed or to help bring an end to his unethical business dealings.
I had my taxes done by Liberty Taxes here in Poway, CA. I wrote them a check on 03/19/12 for their service. On 03/22/12 they with -drew the amount from my savings account- not once but twice the amount! I never gave them my saving account information. Instead of cashing my check they somehow hacked into my savings account, and practically stolen double the amount I owed them for their service. When I called them I was informed that it was the banks fault, and they did nothing wrong. I went to the bank and when they auditing my account they said that the check was not deposited, but an unauthorized withdrawal was made electronically from my savings account, and that is fraud! The bank advised me to call them again, and asked them to pay me back the amount they twice withdrew from my account. I called them every day for the last nine days and was jerked around. First I was told that the owner was sick, then the office person who manages finances was out of the office, or "we will call you, when you can pick up the check." I never received a call as promised, neither my check. Today I filed a dispute with the bank, if the bank declares it a fraud I will file a police report!
Liberty tax are crooks I live in Canada .we get child tax credits monthly.after doing my taxes I wasn't receiving my credit liberty tax received my credit and cashed the cheques which were in my name.fraud is all I have to say.the cra was looking into this.I should of known first time there the police were called on a customer and the staff were one of the rudest people I have ever come across.they took it upon themselves to steal my child tax credit.unbelievable how they get away with this.
Same thing happened to me and was told it was a loan that is why I received a paper check something needs to be addressed here. CB Tampa Florida
charge too much
Watch your wallet with these guys. I have never used their services before, and was hit with a whopping $362.00 bill simply for doing my State and Federal Taxes, with an additional form needed for itemizing. I had my mother's done at the same time, and they charged her $289.00. This is an 87 senior who could have had her taxes done for free at a Senior...

I worked as a tax preparer for Liberty Tax Service at the Sumner Ave store from January - April of 2008. Initial cost for service not what is quoted. 4 different branches of the same company in the same city of victorville ca. Have different prices for the same service. Actual total price of service is not being given during intial visit. Must meet certain criteria in order to meet the qouted price, however that criteria information is not divulged. Unqualified preparers with very little knowledge of tax laws. Attempted to resolve by speaking to the supervisor from 2 of the branches. Unsuccessful. Asked to speak to there supervisor. Answer: supervisor has a name and cannot be contacted via phone and has no physical adress for an office or point of contact.
Absolutely correct. Same problem.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Did you expect them to give you the owner's home telephone number and address? I certainly hope not because that would just be outrageous to expect at all. And it is fairly common to expect different franchise stores under the same global banner to have some price variation. I even have two Wal-Mart stores within 5 minutes of me in opposite directions where they have major price differences on virtually all of their items.
Paid tax preparers are notorious for having little knowledge of tax law, but again what do you expect? They only work 3.5 months out of the year and have a very short window to be trained in as IRS tax law is often significantly updated in November or December. You'll likely never find a CPA or Enrolled Agent working as a tax preparer for Liberty as the job wouldn't pay anywhere near enough for someone with that level of qualification.
scamming clients and employees
Rocky aka Raquel Hayes is not only cheating tax payers out of part of their refund with her outrageous fees but she has also cheated some employees out of wages. She had people in her office doing tax returns saying they were only working on commision when she knew she was not going to be hiring them. Also she hired me back in december to work for her. I...

I had my taxes done in Florida and they too screwd them up. I was told if I didn't like it, too bad. I threaten the manager to call the main office in Va and he said that they wont do anything. Well he was right Liberty Tax Services in Va Beach, Va does not care about their customers. Liberty Tax in Florida messed my taxes up so bad I had to pay a fine to the IRS (US Government mafia). Is that justice or what. I would advise anyone wanting you taxes done right, don't use any Liberty Txes Services at all, or any where. Just look their profile up with all of the customer and employee complaints.
Yes they dont know how to do taxes. They are only seasonal part time temp workers. They take less than a 2 week course.
I would watch all the Liberty Tax Services in the Central Florida Area. Orlando, Melbourne, Palm Bay Areas. Check out their business practices. They really don't have a good record on good customer service or anything.

I too am a former employee of The Liberty to take, tax service...and the things they do to people, in terms of taking their money by charging these extremely high fees, are just ridiculous. The owners are money hungry, inhumane idiots. I have worked at about four different locations and they are consistently draining these people dry..I would also like to add, the comments made to each other or about another person on here are just absurd...everyone wants to seem as though they know it all, or that other people who are not "educated" know nothing...I see people still put more than enough energy into belittling the next person...all over nothing...You guys belong on a Charlie Brown episode...
Compare $99 for Liberty's book to the $299 H&R Block charges for their course, which is also based on IRS Pub. 17. Guess what? A CPA has to go to college for 5 years and nobody pays them anything either. Block, Jackson Hewitt, and Liberty just ask that people take a short course to learn how to prepare taxes. 3 out of 4 can't learn the material and can't be hired, and you think they should be paid? Then find some other kind of job, this one is not for you. And any preparer who takes twelve minutes to do any return of any kind is incompetent. Someone obviously gave you a very flawed picture of what the job of a tax preparer entails. At Liberty, none work for minimum wage. You forgot to mention the percentage of revenue that also goes to the preparer. And average first-year preparer with no experience and no clientele will average about $12 an hour. You don't get rich but it's not minimum wage and it goes up year after year.
I have worked at a Liberty Tax Service in Kansas City, MO. The majority of my customers were lower income and were the products of an inner-city public school system. In more cases than not, it does not matter how much time I dedicated to explaining the process to them. Most of my customer were just too distracted by their large anticipated refunds to care to read anything they were signing. Notwithstanding, I grew tired of having to pull excuses out of thin air to rationalize fees that approached $600 for a returns that I completed in twelve minutes. Almost none of the returns were checked for even typographical accuracy much less basic compliance with the tax code. When I reviewed returns, I found egregious errors such as a W-2 from a previous year being keyed into the current year, constant misspelling of names that prevented our customers from cashing or depositing their refund check, wrong addresses which prevented the IRS for mailing notices to our customers, and, in some cases, returns that were mangled. We offered a $50 cash rebate in the form of green back cash. Unless the customer arrived before 1:00 PM, we were probably out of cash. Nothing is more pleasant than dealing with people we owe cash to.
They majority of employees I worked with had to pay $99 to take a "free" tax course before becoming employees. The $99 text book they received was based on Publication 17, a publication the IRS freely distributes. The over all instruction is sub par at best, and is just an additional revenue stream at worst. The prevailing wage for a McDonald's employee in north east Kansas is $8 with paid training. It was a nightmare to attract any qualified employees who were willing to pay $99 and endure twenty to forty hours of unpaid training just to assume a seasonal job that pays a McDonald's wage. All managers were paid poorly, and many of the stores owned by this franchisee did not have managers at all. In the absence of managers, simple problems could not be fixed.
In the case of the particular franchise I worked for, the Kansas Department of Revenue filed a tax warrant against the owner for unpaid taxes. If this particular owner does not pay his taxes, then it is really telling how well the Liberty Tax Service corporation screens its potential franchisees. For readers who wish to verify my statements, research court cases for evictions of Liberty Tax Service locations in Johnson County, Kansas and you will find two franchises. One of the evictions lists the corporate name of the franchisee in question. Research court cases for that corporation, and you will find four or more court cases with the owner's name. Research court cases against that owner, and you will find the tax warrant.
I am a Liberty Tax owner and I would like to apologize to those that had bad experience with Liberty. I do have many satisfied customers and a few that are disatisfied. Humans do errors. Liberty does have a great system when is followed properly.
To begin with, they put my W2's in twice, called back two weeks later and told me that they had fixed it and needed a signature. The outrageous fee was also supposed to be taken directly out of my return, even according to all the paperwork they printed off for me. 8 weeks later still no taxes, so we called them up and they said they haven't done anything because we haven't paid them. LIBERTY TAX IN KENAI AND SOLDOTNA ALASKA SUCKS. Never again will I go there, and I will blast this all over the place, with newspaper articles, and flyers. $346.52 for married filing jointly with an injured spouse form? All the other places I looked at AFTER we had taxes done was only charging a quarter of the price. LIBERTY TAX IS A RIPOFF

If you ###s cannot communicate, it is no wonder that your tax experience did not suit you: You don't understand English!
Liberty Tax Seattle EXTREMELY overcharges! And, it seems, they treat their employees like garbage. Just before I left after finding out how much these fools charge (compared to how much work they actually do) I overheard whom I can only assume to be a manager snap at an employee for an incredibly ridiculous reason, then continue to stay very obviously angry. I felt so bad for the poor underling who did nothing wrong. Word of advice for whoever is in charge- treat your employees with a little more respect! We, the customers, see and hear more than you think. And I, for one, do not want my taxes prepared by an angry jerk who takes pride in ripping people off. Good thing a friend told me about Turbotax.com, which ended up being free and super simple. No need for your services, Liberty Tax, or your big stinky black dog that growled at me when I walked in.
Don't go to these scam artist tax services. They overcharge!
Use the free IRS tax service if you have gross income under $57, 000. Or use tax software such as turbotax, which is 100% accurate as long as you input the correct tax info. Just use last year's return to guide you if your financial situation hasn't changed very much.
I would like to state the fees you pay are pre determined, has nothing to do with the prepayer and also the interest fees for RALs and such ARE BANK FEES NOT LIBERTY. You think the bank is gonna give you your money earlier for free? If you were not so impatient you would not have to pay all that.
i have a question and i hope someone could answer it for me. last year i did my tax at liberty and the girl who did my tax mess up on mine and my husband for mine she did"nt put the right amount that i made that year, and for my husband she put too much money on his now there saying we have to pay $680.00 because of the mess up. so my question is would i have to pay that back or would it be liberty?
audit
I filed my taxes with liberty taxes in 2005. At that time I had my own business and I also worked for another company that gave 1099 misc forms instead of liberty taxcombining both incomes as one they filed them separately in the wrong amount I received a letter from the irs stating that I owed. When the liberty tax representative filed the taxes they claim I didn"t owe anything and that wasn't true. So when I filed my taxes in 2008 for 2007 the irs snatched my refund iconfronted liberty tax about there error and asked if they would correct it and they assured me that they could be it would cost me 400.00 she claimed she saw what they did wrong and would be able to amend it for a fee. I feel I paid you guys to do it properly the first time. And I felt that I shouldn't have to pay for something that should;ve been right the first time
This company, Liberty Taxes, hires people "off the street" and trains them in a week to do you income taxes.
You are 100% better off using a tax software such as turbo tax which is 100% accurate, as long as you put in the right tax info.
preparer did 2005 return wrong and then in 12/06 got letter owing irs over $3600.
They did our taxes at this office for 2004, 2005 and 2006.in december 2006, got letter from irs saying we had made more money in 2005 then they showed on our return. Had my copies of what we had given them to prepare return with, and they had also copies of this information. Well, they didn't return my calls or help us, got voice mail from owner of this franchise saying it was his mistake and that he would help. They double check for accuracy (hah) and he sent me a check for $140 dollars finally after several calls, where I left voice mails, so I finally called corporate and they said he would lose his franchise and they would send me the penalty and interest owed. Took over two months to get this, and now am wooried about hearing that they also did our 2006 wrong. We now make monthly payments to the irs thanks to them, and the lady who checked our taxes at this office now has opened as a independent tax preparer - good luck to any who use this office in hixson.
So Paula exactly what is your complaint? It's not Liberty's fault that you owe the actual taxes themselves, if they had done the return correctly in the first place you would still be making payments to the IRS. And they stood by their guarantee to cover the interest and penalties and took care of that for you. So it sounds like you're complaining that they are human and made a mistake. Fair enough, but at least they resolved the problem for you.
I used the Liberty Tax Service in Worthington, MN they said that I would be approved for the RAL product (Denied). I got the Debit Card as well (called over five times never get a hold of an agent and account locked). They said I will be getting only 932 back well I entered my info into turbo tax and they said 1061 back. Whats up with this. I have filed a [redacted] and will be letting the IRS know.
Mexican family owned franchise with there 10 year old son as secretary of the business. I should of walked out...
charged to much for 1040ez tax form
I was charged $225.00 just to figure our federal & state taxes, I think that is to much for ez form and state taxes. My dad has his done by a tax accountant and pays $75.00 to $ 90.00 a year. Live and learn I guess. On top of the high charge then they charge you a fee to get the check if not direct deposited. Screwed without a kiss. The bad thing is is they don't tell you how much till they are done figuring your taxes.

That seems like a very odd situation you're describing. If they set up your return to be filed electronically the system would send it out automatically without any extra effort on their part. If they were still holding onto my return that much later I would get a refund from them (they have a satisfaction guarantee and have to refund you if you are not satisfied) and still have them file it. If I were you I would still go get a refund for the filing delay.
Liberty Tax made several mistakes on our 2008 tax returns. We got a statement from the IRS a few months ago claiming we owed upwards of $10k (including penalties).
Turns out Liberty personnel made several blanant errors:
- omitted a capitol gains statement (what kind of QC do they have in their business?)
- stated we relocated to another state (?wtf?)
Either way, 3 months later, we still have not gotten corrected tax return from them. They do not call, we have to call- (excuses have been 'slow computer', 'no response from parent office' to name a few). They are only open 1 day a week now, post 4/15, so if there is an issue within their business it takes weekly implements to get resolved.
Unbelievable. Unless you have the most simplest tax return, stay the h*() away.
