I've been calling mtn since 22 october 2009, to register my sim card, i've been talking with multiple call agents at their call center and even today 17 november 2009 my sim card is still not registered, the only give me different ref no: [protected], [protected], [protected], usd2759311, [protected], [protected]

i had laptop contract with MTN from wolmaransstad in the north-west, and belielve me when i tell you that it has been a nightmare and i don't wish to do any business with them ever again and will also advice my freind and my family to do the same.MTN staff are crocks and they can lie like the is no tommorrow, my deal started on Septermber 2010 where i got a laptop, printer and a modam.my printer started malfunctioning from 06 December 2010, to date i haven't got my printer back.they have been sending me from pile to post and i even spoke to the so called the Area Manager who did not assist me with anything.Then my modem also had a problem and was disconnected and i also took it back to that store where it was used by the store manager and when i was looking for it they say it got lost.
I'm currently experiencing a similar problem with MTN. I've been trying since 07/12/2011 to get my son's cell number re-activated after i let MTN know that i would not be re newing my contract with them. I've been to almost all the MTN branches in Cape Town, the branch where i last renewed my contract at Steenberg Village Tokai, even in Knysna while on holiday. I was told eventually to phone the call centre and request the number to be re-activated. I've even been liaising with the mtn webmaster/email person all I've been getting is the run around and reference numbers. there's absolutely no empathy at all or explanation as to what the problem is/what the solution could be. I really appreciate your network and services but i was so disappointed today that i couldnt retrieved my stolen MTN line in your Ogunsanya branch. i have used this line for more than ten years, i have the sim certificate and all the details with me. My phone was stolen some time ago and i did welcome back, then registered the sim in your small branch in MMA2 (Murtola Muhammed Airport).
On the 24/12/2012 i was robbed they went away with the phone and other things. I went to your Ogunsanya branch today to retrieved the line, they said my data is not in the system and i cannot get my line back, meanwhile, i am with the certificate of the original sim and the welcome back pack i did some time ago.

really poor service
The service at the musgrave store totally sucks. The staff are unqualified, ignorant, unprofessional and lazy. They never ever seem to answer the phones and neither do they follow up on anything.
I had to wait two weeks to get an answer for my contract when I was told two days. I am now porting over to vodacom, the service is excellent, the staff at the same mall are wide awake and efficient and much more helpful.
I doubt that store is a success at all with the idiots you have employed there. They dont deserve their jobs and certainly gives mtn a rather poor image. Do something, employ better professional people who knows what to do and how to treat customers.
Oh and the area manager farida also needs another job, until now she hasnt returned my call. It seems to be a trend with mtn staff these days. What happened to the good, fast service we used to once receive?

Nobody ever answers the phone in this store! What do they do all day? The telephone should just be removed from the store because it's not serving any purpose there. Then at least one will know that we cannot call the store. That will be so much better. Because the telephone in that store is only a bluff!

Yes, patethic service, i have been there twice since 28 March 2014 and they still trying to upgrade me to another contract, service sucks, i think i will also be moving to another service provider.

The mail below is the MTN reply of the mail I sent to you and copied to them yesterday, they managed to reply after more than two months to the time I lodged my complain because of the fact that I wrote to you and they just replied to fulfill all righteousness. Sir as am writing this mail I am just imagining what the poor market women/men and the uneducated Nigerians must have suffered under MTN, reading the reply of the mail below one begins to wonder whether the mail came from a multinational MTN or from a motor park.
Sir below is my own analysis of the shabby mail they sent on how I spent my credit on 30th of March 2011:-
1) If what they wrote is the true reflection of what happened that faithful day, why did it take MTN this long to reply after lodging my complain for more than four times both by phone call/mail.
2) Please sir can you kindly ask MTN to furnish us with the telephone numbers, my conversation with those people they claimed that I called between 3:26:16pm – 9:17:21pm and the destination of those calls so that we can proceed to verify them.
3) Sir reading the first mail (at the bottom of this page) I sent to MTN you will notice that I said that my On-net seconds/sms was all zero when I checked my balance at around 7pm. The question is what then did I use in making those calls I made between 9:00:24pm, 9:00:25pm to 9:17:21, knowing fully well that it is not a post paid line and that I did not load any other credit afterwards. I guess that miracle happened and MTN dashed me some airtime at the said time.
4) Sir lets assume that we want to close our eyes and go with the MTN’s elephant lies about those calls I made, then what happened to my on-net sms. Does it mean that I sent all the sms I had that same day.
5) From the mail MTN sent they said that my purchased on-net seconds was 3600 and the total number of calls made by me was 6330 seconds which means that am owning MTN 2730 seconds i.e.(3600 minus 6330), and MTN did not ask me to pay the outstanding 2730 seconds I used. Its beginning to appear as if MTN is now a father Christmas that dashes people airtime at will.
6) How did I manage to have an outstanding balance of 2730 seconds on a prepaid line and MTN is not ready to ask me to pay.
7) Sir how on earth did the same MTN confirmed when I called their customer care center that I made only two calls that day and that my airtime wiped out because of system problem they had during that period. The customer care personnel that attended to me on phone that day confirmed my claim and even promised to forward my case to the compensation unit.
Sir it is quite unbelievable that MTN (supposedly cooperate organization) will result to cheap blackmail. I am a very law abiding citizen of this nation and am not doing all this unjustly but to make sure justice is done. I did not start all this because of my lost airtime but because of the fact that MTN is maltreating Nigerians with a lot of impunity and disregard. I have vowed to see the end of this even if it entails using the last drop of my blood and I pray that you will use your good office to investigate this matter unbiased.

My husbands new upgrade phone broke in the second week it went in for repairs, they want to bill him R900. Cannot speak to anybody who can explain why. Danny Lepal from Head Office said he would look into complaint and get back to me. He promised to do this on two occasions. He does not get back to me and it is very difficult to contact anybody other than the call centre and all they can say is "I don't know". Please help? Does ANYBODY work at MTN? Do they know what customer service is. Every complaint forum on the internet has long lists of complaints about MTN is this telling the SA Cellphone market something?

I received a call from the debt collectors last week, stating that I owe mtn r2000, however I have never received an email, statement, invoice or phone call about outstanding money. I emailed mtn, and someone replied stating that the account is in arrear amounting to r600, and that the account is not with the debt collectors. I had paid the debt collectors lst month. Nobody is giving me any explanations so I am not going to pay anyone until I receive feedback and some assistance with mtn.
MTN call centre Consultant, Bheka Khumalo told me that I was wasting his time whilst he waited for me to look for the ID Number, which took less than a minute. He said he doesn't have patience for me and that he would end the call had I not adhered to his time constraints. He sounded self righteous and he said there is nothing wrong he was doing and that he was following procedure.
Poor service that I received from MTN when I was upgrading my contract. Instead of them upgrading my existing number, they have given me a new one even though I clearly stated that I emphasised that I wanted my existing number.

On 29 August 2011 applied for additional 3 phones on existing contract [protected] at MTN Highveld Mall Witbank.
On 30 August 2011 received SMS stated that contract was declined, no reason given, @ 20:10 phones MTN on 808. Operator advised me to phone MTN credit on [protected] between 08:00 – 19:00.
On 31 August 2011 @ 08:15 I phoned MTN Credit. Voicemail stated they are closed and office hours are between 0800 – 19:00.
Phoned MTN spoke to Leshé, said I must speak to the Branch where I applied to give a reason why it was declined. Phoned branch, they said they cannot give me a reason as there is nothing stated. I must phone MTN Credit.
Yet again I phoned MTN Credit, and again the voicemail comes on. Phoned MTN spoke to Mangi, operator said I must speak to accounts. Phoned MTN accounts stated that there is an ITC against my name and that I must phone Trans union.
Phoned Trans union. TV – [protected] - [protected], assured me there is no ITC against my name and that my name is clear with the Credit Bureau.
Phoned MTN SP again (ref Number [protected]) spoke to Debra and logged a complaint. She said a supervisor will phone me, but that she will put me through to the Legal Department as well.
I then spoke to Gugu (Ref number [protected]). She said that MTN had made a mistake and that my record is clear. I must ask the branch to resubmit the forms and that we must state Reference Number on the application. 16h30 I spoke to the branch and asked them to resubmit.
01/09/2011 – I spoke to the branch, they said that they haven’t submitted as yet as the lady who is working with that is not there.
Called [protected], spoke to MTN SP, Micelle. She said that they would follow it up with the branch. She assured me that they (SP) will phone me after the branch had submitted the application, which they never did.
11h00, the branch phoned me to state that the application is still declined.
01/09/2011 12:01, I spoke to the Legal Department again, Gemini, [protected]. She said that she understood my frustration and did not know what it had declined again.
I logged a complaint again and they said the Supervisor would call me back regarding the matter.
02/09/2011 – As of this date neither of the two supervisors called me back.
05/09/2011 – Still no feedback received. This is only a summary of events that happened between 31/08/2011 and 01/09/2011. I spoke to more than 9 different people who listened and then transferred the calls.

I am a client of MTN for more than 10 years. I have never missed a payment and have a clean record with you. I have a legitimate income as a Trauma Doctor and earn a decent salary every month, and I am unable to get additional phones on my existing contract. Why?
I bought a phone by MTN last year November 2012, and this year early the phone gave a problem with the software which needed to be upgraded and aas a customer i enquired about it because it stiii had a guarantee.on the 2nd of february it was send in for repairs and i was told to wait for thee weeks and they will call me, which i did.amazingly i did not receive any call untill i decided to go to the store in five weeks time and they told me its not there, they will call collection call centre, which the did not untill i called them myself and they told me they never received my phone.i went back to the store to enquire again later and i told them what was said by the call centre and thats when they took action to call them and they said to me they will call me back, They called and said i should come to the store the next day which was today, and when i came there i stiill had to wait for an hour for them to call the call centre to do follow up and and they stiil told about my phone missing.which i have to wait for the matter to be resolved from their side, and i beilive that its not my fault as a customer i feel that its poor service from my side, so how do i deal with the matter from here. should i take it further to my lawyers.
The service at the MTN shop at Musgrave Centre, Durban totally sucks. The staff are incompetent, ignorant and lack professionalism. This totally poor service has prompted me to port over to Vodacom who had assisted me with the very same query immediately that took the idiots at the mtn store TWO WEEKS to follow up on!
Furthermore the area manager and staff there need to give up their day jobs cos if clients dont chase them constantly then they are in their own stupid buzz.
I am disgusted with the service, these people dont deserve their jobs when there are hundreds of more dedicated and efficient people out there crying out for employment.
MTN..you are seriously gonna lose support if you keep duds like these around. I hope that everyone who never received service at that store complain because these idiots will go on promoting their lack of efficiency and stupidness and give the network a bad image.
Get rid of them if you want that store to be successful.

On the 16th day of September, at 3.32 a.m., a message, claimed to have come from MTN, was posted to one of my MTN mobile phone numbers, stating that I have won N1 Million and free trip to 2010 World Cup, and, therefore, requesting that I should "verify immediately" on www.mtn.fifa2010winning.com, under code 462070. Rather than launch me to the MTN web, I just discovered that the Complaints Board web surfaced, upon which I discovered that many other individuals have lodged complaints that same messages have been forwarded to them. In furtherance to the above, what necessary steps, deemed appropriate should please be instituted. Thank you.
