Car condition/misrepresentation
Do not buy a car from New England Classic Car. I paid over $20k for a 1980 MGB that was supposed to be in great shape for local driving by my wife. The car arrived with a meaningful oil leak (about a quart of oil poured out in my garage on the first day) and it barely ran. After trailering it to a shop specializing in British cars, I learned all four cylinders failed a compression check requiring a rebuild. They also highlighted significant issues with the wiring, brakes, exhaust and fuel system. If that weren’t enough, they indicated the body had undergone significant (poorly executed) repairs contrary to how it was represented at purchase. They stated the vehicle mechanical condition was too poor to justify further work, and they suggested I buy something from the market to start from a better mechanical platform. The shop had no interest in working on the car I had purchased. Nothing I was told by Marc was true and pictures were misleading. I have ended up with a car that has no value beyond scrap. I sent a couple of emails to Marc but he never responded to my messages.
Desired outcome: Anyone buying from New England Classics should be very careful to read reviews. Marc’s comments about the quality of car he will deliver is not close accurate in my experience.
Failure to refund overpayment
Wanted to purchase an MG TD. I saw that NE Classic Cars had several listed on their website. Called them and talked to owner, Marc Evans. He talked me out of the MG and talked me into a Morgan +4 instead. The Morgan was being re-painted. Paid NE Classic Cars in full, $40420 up front. I had second thoughts about the Morgan and called Marc and told him I would rather have an MG. We agreed on one that was listed at $23,900. Marc said he would add new wire wheels and some other extras. We never arrived at a final selling price. The MG was finally delivered about a month ago. Did not get a BOS or title when delivered. I asked Marc when I would receive the amount he owed me, est. $10000. He told me he owed me nothing. A few days later he apologized for his reaction and said we would arrive at a suitable solution. Finally received a title and BOS. The BOS showed a selling price of $30000. Again I asked Marc when I would receive my $10000 balance due. Then he reverted to he owed me nothing
Desired outcome: Refund me $10000 that I overpaid

They were extremely helpful in getting my money back from this guy.
1973 mgb gt
Paid $19000 for an MGB GT from Mark in January 2020, and honestly started out great. Reliable, comfortable, good cosmetically, never a problem. Then, driving back from VA to NYC in June, hit a pothole in DC. Snapped Mark's battery kill switch (cheap plastic) and killed the car. Kill switch when broken cut off battery power. Had to have the car towed to NYC for 1200. Jury-rigged a battery fix and drove to Mark to fix the kill switch, install new fuse boxes and install A/C, paid $1, 500 up front. Mark took five weeks to get the car back to us, and the A/C worked at first, but it stalled the car at idle (revs dropped to 5, 000), so it was useless in traffic, which is when you actually need it. And running A/C for more than three or four minutes overheated the engine. Mark also did not fix the battery or install the new fuse boxes. Also, some items that were in the car were missing and the driver's side window was broken (I had paid $200 to have it fixed in June). I complained to Mark and he threw his shop guys under the bus, said he had nothing to do with the project, claimed the A/C was tested etc. but it clearly did not function well enough to be considered done. His shop guy told me to raise the idle, so I did, and then everything else started going wrong - the idle RPM still fluctuates, drops and dies even with A/C off, the car makes a terrible clattering sound when accelerating, A/C stopped working at all (tried to recharge but no dice) and the car still overheats. It's a total useless mess - Mark's botched A/C install basically rendered the car a non-op. I would not trust it to drive 5 miles. I basically don't have a car and I can't sell it in this condition. Don't trust Mark to do any work on your car. The fact he wouldn't take responsibility was also pretty obnoxious.
I use to work there, we got blamed for everything and took so much verbal abuse.

deceptive advertising / gross misrepresentation
Fair warning to all fellow classic car enthusiasts, marc evans of new england classic cars co in statford ct is the type of shady character we need to hound out of existence.in dec 2017 I purchased a 1975 bmw 2002 advertised nationally and on ebay as a "rust free, scratch free, bubble free incredibly well preserved classic with mostly original paint" all quoted from his various listings. I spoke to marc at length on the phone and was quite clear on my skepticism that a 40 year old east coast car could be rust free, and he assured me his shop went over the car with a fine tooth comb and it was amazingly rust free. I further stated without any possibility of misunderstanding that I didnt care one bit about the mechanical condition of the car but marc, "you better not send me a rusty car"!
After wiring the funds in full marc then made me wait nearly 2 months before it was "convenient" for him to meet a truck to pick up my car as he would not stay even 5 minutes after hours or agree to meet truck on weekends for the transport to load. Upon arrival I could see the cancer, bubbling, oozing evidence of rust on virtually every single panel of the car from 20 feet away. All of the lower door sills were oozing rust, the front fender wheelhouse and outer splash panel oozing with rust, the rear 1/4 panels behind the wheels oozing with rust, the spare tire carrier had a giant hole patched with a piece of sheet metal, the front and rear window frame sheet metal had rust, and there was overspray from poorly done paintwork on every piece of trim, they didnt even spend 2 minutes removing the mirrors, paint overspray everywhere. Since I stated to marc I was not concerned about mechanical aspects, I wont even go into the 80 hours I spent making the car safe and relaible enough to drive. The car was worth 1/2 if not less than what I paid for it, and I immediately called marc the following day.
After sending him dozens of pictures of all the obvious rust and corrosion, his response to my demand that he either take the car back or send me an adjustment on the price was as follows: you west coast guys just dont have the same eyes for "rust" that we on the east coast have, this car is a rust free car by east coast standards, and as far as im concerned you got a rust free car!
The matter will be adjudicated in court as I will be suing new england classic car co. And the lying sack of feces that owns it, marc evans.

Do not trust this man or you will regret it!
Back in october 2014 I brought my 55 buick to be restored. Gary was so excited to have this car to restore. He said he couldn't wait to get going on it. 1 yr later and he has done very little and he blamed the snow storms had put him behind 3 months. Ok fine. I am in florida from oct2014-may of 2015. I call gary and tell him I want to change the tranny to one with od. He calls me up and tells me I would be better off with an engine with efi and to give him a call. Tells me he can get an ls1 from a used corvette and he could use the wiring harness etc and then sell the corvette and put the money from that tpwards the buick. It will cost an additional 10k. I send him a check. Back from florida, I stop and see how the car is coming along. I find out he didn't put in an ls1 but a lt1 from another car. This was not what I paid for.; he did have it rebuilt or so he claims. From this point on to today. He does not answer any emails. And will no answer his phone this past june I stopped in ad saw my car with spot primer all over my car. I did not tell himi wanted a new paint job, that the car was suppose to have a dent on passenger side door only. Per contract. Finally after being nice he, had the first coat of paint done hee said he would sand and clear coat in two days. That was on july 21. Since then he will not answer my calls or will to answer my txt messages. There are two things you should know about gary. First he is a chronic liar and two he is a crook, bait & switch is his game.
I find out now that he has a partner and they are now selling cars that his gets at auction. He has finished at least two of them to sell, while my car is put on hold again. This guy is bad news.
If you do you will be very sorry and disappointed.
1967 TR4-A
My experience with this company and the owner, was by far, the most distasteful car experience I have ever been involved in. After over 18 months of waiting, having paid upfront for a car and modifications recommended and agreed to by the owner, I had to hire a lawyer to get my car. Once the car was delivered, it will now take me $4, 000 to $5, 000 to make it operable. After retaining a lawyer the owner said he was giving me a break on the price, but I didn't realize it meant he was not going to deliver all the items he promised, he made it seem like he was owning up to his mistakes, but I should have realized he would not be living up to his word. And from this experience, his word is useless.
The recommended carburetors don't work at the altitude I live, even though I was promised they would be tuned for my altitude, I'll now have to sell them and buy different ones. In addition the accelerator cable was frayed and snapped at where they jerry-rigged it to the carburetors. The battery was dead on arrival, not a new one like promised. The generator is putting out 12 volts, so now the new battery I purchased won't charge meaning a new alternator will have to be purchased. The electronic ignition didn't work and a new one had to be purchased. The ignition switch was corroded and was shorting out. The starter then burned out and had to be replaced. So far I have put in over $2, 000 in repairs to get the car almost running and easily have another $2, 000 for carbs, alternator, cables, etc. Additionally, he said he couldn't find a tonneau cover, so he credited that to me, he also said he would put the wood dash in the trunk so I could put it on later, that didn't happen either. The list goes on and on... Oh yes, and he promised a 60 day tag for the car, but that didn't happen either and the reason being is that three of the four tires are dry rotted and have to be replaced before I can drive it - that is another $800. And finally, it does have wire wheels and he did paint the ones on the car, but why didn't he paint the spare tire wire wheel to match the others - guess he couldn't afford the 2 oz. of paint...
The owner sounded very genuine and knowledgable, obviously I was totally duped by this company. If I didn't live several thousand miles away, I would go to court, but I have such a foul taste in my mouth from dealing with this company it's just not worth it.
I would avoid dealing with this company like I would avoid dealing with ebola.
Accidentally listed neutral. In reality...disagree-
First of all, IF one reads this complaint, there is a lot more than meets the eye.
This fify year old unrestored car was sold 'as is' and then we were contracted to provide additional work including, but not limited to, paint, some modification (including installation of 'racing style' Weber carbs, to reinstall the interior, and upgrade the car with the installation and connection of an overdrive 4 speed transmission.
Now, to respond to individual parts of this complaint.
First of all, it is a NEAR 50 year old car. IF a working generator or starter fails a second after the car departs out company, it is absurd to complain. And, once sold, IF the part failed during the time it was here, we would have been MORE than happy to replace the part...and why not, the new owner would have been responsible for payment.
Second, l there is no such thing as a 60 day temp tag in Ct. Doesn't exist. There is a 30 day temp available, never promised, offered, or even suggested by us. And it would require the new owner to get insurance and register the car at a Connecticut DVD office. This aspect of the complaint is pure nonsense.
Third, this stuff about the carbs not being properly set for his altitude. Yes, we were asked to do this and we DID by the only method available...when the carbs were ordered from the supplier in California, we specifically gave their technical department the use and altitude as specified by the new owner and they assured us that the carbs were properly set for that use. To think we are going to take this car to (say) Vermont to attempt to duplicate the owner's altitude...is nonsense.
Fourth, other than paint, the biggest single change we performed was the acquisition, installation, and connection of an expensive overdrive transmission. We acquired this unit from Quantum Mechanics in Oxford Ct who is a known specialist in this area. The unit was supplied, promptly installed, and we were given detailed instructions for the rather complicated wiring. For several months, we tried our best yet were unsuccessful in getting the unit (guaranteed by the supplier) to work. FINALLY, after calling, pleading, and requests, John came to our shop and discovered his instructions were incorrect. And spent part of a day working with our mechanics to get the unit to work. Hence, a furtherance of delays generally expected and accepted by anyone who is having restoration work done on a near fifty year old car. Truth is some shops would have simply said 'screw it' and shipped the car with a non working overdrive. But we were determined to get it right...and we did.
Fifth: lawyer/legal. Yes, the new owner did contract a local lawyer to investigate the progress of the car. Local attorney Richard P Giarniero. who, in accordance with is client's request, asked for a detailed accounting of the work done and also stated he was going to provide an independent expect to examine the car. BOTH OF WHICH WERE DONE. In fact, in a letter to us dated June 20th, he further stated that he had the balance of the payment held in escrow and the funds would be released to us upon SATISFACTORY examination of the car. Which was examined and were paid.
Sixth: as the car was sold as a complete entity, was distinctly 'unrestored, ' any comments about purported 'old tires' is, again, absolute nonsense. IF the owner has asked 'how are the tires and would you replace them?' it would have been a point of discussion with the new owner responsible for payment of new tires. But as far back as I can vaguely recall, they were black, they were round, and they held air. Which is about as much as one could ask for tires on a 50 year old urnestroed car. Whether the replacement was done here or at the new owner's place, BE AWARE that if they were replaced here, we would have had an opportunity to make a profit on them. Again, this aspect of the complaint is sheer nonsense.
Seventh...the unpainted wire wheel. Aw shucks, I think he got us on this one. As I am sure one $6 can of paint can paint at least 10 wire wheels (we use Krylon 1403), I will concede the 80 cent point. This is clearly not nonsense. Just picky picky.
Read his complaints, read my response, remember we are talking about a 50 year old UNRESTORED car sold along with specific work. "Duped" he writes? Now, lets see...he got the car and title, he has no complaint (yet) about the expensive paintwork, no complaint about the secondary (cost wise) overdrive transmission. No complaint about the (third most expensive) Weber carb installation OTHER than the running issue which is clearly not within our capacity to properly test and set up. And...what else? Did he get a rusted piece of junk? Duped? After the car been examined by a local expert and cleared to allow us to be paid? Duped?
I don't mean to be political but it seems analogous to a candidate for president saying 'things have never been worse.' And one looks around and sees the stock market at over 18, 000, gas for $2.20 a gallon, foreign wars winding down, unemployment down, inflation stable, super low interest rates...the WORST it has ever been? Truth is, the new owner of this car is complaining about things that are either in his imagination or inconsistent with reality. Imagine, we didn't get his car fitted with '60 day tags' because the tires were old? Unaware, of course, that Ct has not had auto inspection for a decade or two and even if the tires were bald and had bubbles breaking through the side walls, it would not impact one's ability to register the car.
The fifty year old car.
The fifty year old UNRESTORED car sold 'as is' and with additional work performed. With no sense that there is any real complaints about the work we did. Just worn this, old that, and failed those. Now, IF he had been charged for a new generator, a new starter, new tires and didn't get them, 'duped' might have validity. But it didn't and doesn't/. Looked in the Moss catalog (the largest supplier of these parts) and a rebuilt starter and generator combined list for $300, While a rebuilt overdrive transmission is on the far side of $3, 500. does any of this make sense? He had no complaint about a provided $3, 500+ transmission but complains about second hand (on the car he purchased) generator and starter motor failing.
Nonsense.
He bought the car, had work done, had it examined, and is now complaining. What else could I possibly add in response?

Customer service
Poor customer service. I bought a TR3 from this place. After I send my deposit he emails me the VIN number paperwork has a problem. Instead of just informing me about the problem and ASKING me if I would mind waiting until this is resolved and then continuing the sale. He decides to cancel the sale and return the deposit. He should have ASKED if I would have waited. I was not in a hurry. He tells me that when it is resolved I can purchase the car again. No guarantee I will be charged the same price. No guarantee I won't be bidding against other buyers.

Deception of sale
After many emails with Marc I sent him the deposit for a 1956 TR3. A few days later he contacts me to tell me that there is a problem with the paperwork/vin number and he couldn't sell me the car. A couple days later I check the company website to find MY TR3 listed as sold for more money than I paid. If there truly was a paperwork problem he should have told me to hang on, I was willing to wait. But obviously he sold MY TR3 to someone who offered him more money. Do not trust anything he tells you. He only cares about the almighty dollar.
bad service
I took my mgb gt in for free flow exhaust, tune up, went to pick up car and after I paid owner tells my how worthless my car is and he was rude, got about half way home and exhaust system fell off .I did not go back because I think I would have been arrested when I got a hold of him. PLEASE BEWARE DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS GUY
Should of went back …he would oh just hit the panic button under his desk and the cops would of came to laugh

certainly there are enough complaints about this company that another one almost seems like piling on but this company is so fraudulent that i feel compelled to write. i purchased an MGA last year that was advertised as rust free and restored to pristine condition. i was assured by owner marc evans that the car was being rebuilt to exacting standards. living in new york and 4 hours away i relied on him to tell the truth. what a disappointment when the car arrived. horrible paint job, rust everywhere, and doors and hood that would not close because nothing fit right. he assured me that 95% of the cars he sells are sight unseen and i expected a reasonable product to be delivered. plain and simple he is a crook and a liar. stay away! try heritage classics in beverly hills. they sold me a beautiful austin healey.

Marc Evans is a short, slimey, greasy, used ###. If you buy a decent car from him, it's only because of luck. Evans is a crook, and the overwhelming majority of the cars at the New England Classic Car Company are crap. Evans makes a living selling clapped out English pieces of ### to suckers, repurchasing them at half the price he charged for them when they die in the new owner's hands, and selling them again. He sold me a car that was dangerous. So rusted that it was unsafe; needed an entirely new drive train, screwed up jerryrigged brakes. Don't do business with this company. Do your homework and read about all the people Evans has ripped off.
Misrepresentation of automobile for sale
My story is very much the same as the others posted here; so just to reinforce what as already been said I wanted to be 'counted'. Bought a 1961 tr3a from evans thru photos and discussions. The restoration took way too long, evans was rude and uncooperative, and delievered a subpar product with rust in the rockers, misrepresented past damage, incomplete and unacceptable work, and generally just a poor example of professionalism. I have spent the purchase price over again correcting the problems and would never recommend to anyone they do business with this guy. It is amazing he can do buisness but I am a example of a customer that did not check him out well enough. Let the buyer beware unfortunately.

Never got paid
The owner of this establishment has had a reputation for dishonest business practices for a long time, unfortunately I found this out after my fair share. I brokered a decent Triumph TR3 B to this man for a very reasonable sum, and charged a $500 finders fee, very reasonable. As a result the car was bought, shipped, paid for. After a few weeks, realizing it was taking rather long to receive my money, I inquired only to be strung along with a series of lies about DMV issues. End result I never received my money, the worst part is im not the only person this has happened to. Buyer beware, think twice before considering NECCC.

Deceptive practice
Original estimate to restore a 62 TR3 was mid $20, 000.00 Ended up at $31, 000.00 plus. Supposed to get all leftover spare parts. Used 2 tr3's to complete one restored TR3. Left overs included engine, trans, hard top wire wheels all dash instruments and lots more. When I asked them to be shipped to me I was told they were all junk except I was told the hard...
