Mixed Experiences with Newspapers.com
As someone deeply interested in historical research and genealogy, I recently explored Newspapers.com to access valuable information. While the vast archive of newspapers from different eras intrigued me, the overall experience left me with mixed feelings. The search functionality, initially promising, became frustrating due to limitations and slow performance. Additionally, the customer service was lacking, with unresolved issues and challenges in reaching support. Despite the potential benefits of the platform, the service quality and user experience fell short of expectations. As a passionate researcher, I hope to see improvements in accessibility, search features, and customer support to enhance the overall user experience.
Newspapers.com Review: Massive Collection, But Serious Customer Support Issues
Let me tell you folks, if you're looking to get your hands on newspapers from all corners of the U.S.A, then newspapers.com is the place you wanna be! Their collection is absolutely massive! But I gotta be honest with you guys, when it comes to customer support, they got some serious issues. And I mean serious!
First off, you can forget about giving them a call! 'Cause they don't take no calls! It's like they're allergic to 'em or something! And don't even bother leavin' a message either, 'cause chances are you ain't gonna hear back anytime soon. Even though they promise that they'll do their darnest to get back to ya within 1-2 business days, it's like they never even heard of that promise they made! It's like they're tryna play hard to get or somethin'!
Now, don't get me wrong, I ain't sayin' that they don't have some really great stuff goin' on over there at newspapers.com. 'Cause they do! They got newspapers from all over this great land of ours! But it's just a shame that they gotta go and mess it all up with their lousy customer support.
Review of Newspapers.com: A Good Source for Old News Articles
Newspapers.com is a pretty good site for getting your news fix. The site doesn't have too many updates, but they still have some cool old papers to read. Last year they added the Sacramento Bee, but since then nothing crazy has happened. The site feels pretty random, like a machine is just picking papers at random. But the more you use it, the more familiar the papers become. Overall, I would say if you're looking for some old news articles it's not bad.
-
Pros
- Extensive archive of historical papers
- User-friendly search functionality
- Offers clipping and saving features
- Regularly updated with new content
- Access to a wide range of publications
-
Cons
- Declining print readership due to digital shift
- Ad revenue loss to online platforms
- High operational costs for print production
- Vulnerability to online misinformation trends
Newspapers.com review: Frustrating experience with hidden charges and poor customer service
This website called Newspapers.com is kind of a head-scratcher, you know? They give you 10 days to try out their deal and if you forget to cancel, they sign you up for a whole six months without any say-so from you. That's just messed up, if you ask me. And to make matters worse, they still take your money even if you can't get into their documents!
What's really frustrating is that they don't even have a phone number you can call. And when you send them an email, they don't even bother to let you know they got it, let alone answer your question. That's just plain wrong, man.
At the end of the day, it's hard to deny that their database could be a real help, but with their horrible service, it's like they don't even care if you're happy or not. And that's why I say that their run is coming to an end.
Beware of Deceptive Billing Practices: My Experience with Newspapers.com Free Trial
I was looking for an old obituary site where I could find some information about my ancestors and eventually stumbled upon newspapers.com. The website caught my attention since it promised a free 7-day trial, which sounded too good to be true. However, as soon as I clicked on the link to take the trial, I was asked to provide my credit card information, which made me somewhat suspicious.
Despite my hesitation, I continued with the registration form but noticed that it did not reveal the amount I would be billed after the trial period. That seemed quite fishy, and I didn't want to risk being scammed, so I refrained from adding my credit card details. Although I must admit, they may still have my email address since I initially agreed to the free trial.
As a customer, I feel disappointed that some websites are programmed to deceive people into providing their personal information without disclosing all necessary billing details. It's a shame that such practices exist and make it difficult for honest companies to stand out. I can only hope that others will heed my warning and avoid entrusting their personal information to such sites.
I suspect that many other sites like newspapers.com follow similar tactics. It's quite easy to register a domain name and present a legitimate-looking website, but that's no guarantee of honesty and fair dealings. Therefore, I urge everyone to be cautious while browsing and avoid divulging sensitive information to any website that doesn't offer full transparency.
In conclusion, while newspapers.com may have something to offer, I can't say that I trust them entirely. That being said, everyone is free to form their own opinions and take their own risks. However, I would advise against giving your credit card information to any website that behaves in a similar manner. Stay safe, folks!
Exploring Newspapers.com: A Review of the Online Archive's Features, Navigation, and Subscription Options
When I stumbled upon Newspapers.com, I was initially concerned after reading some negative reviews. However, I decided to take the plunge after discovering two important articles through my Google search. I used a gift card to purchase a monthly subscription, which auto renews each month. Honestly, I gotta say that so far it's been pretty neat!
First off, the navigation and searching are well-designed, making it super easy to track down any articles I'm interested in. And the library of papers is downright impressive. But I must admit, I was disappointed to find that some of my local papers were missing.
Despite this, I'm still having fun with Newspapers.com and might even renew my subscription when it comes time. If I do change my mind, it's literally just a click away from cancelling. However, I feel pretty confident that I won't need to worry about that since I used my gift card to pay for it.
To anyone considering joining Newspapers.com, I gotta say just go for it! It's free to register, and while you won't be able to read the articles without subscribing, it's still worth checking out to see if they've got what you're looking for. If so, shelling out the $20 for a single month is a small price to pay to be able to harvest all that sweet, sweet data. All in all, I think Newspapers.com is a pretty solid resource that's definitely worth checking out.
Newspapers.com Review: Disappointing Experience and Poor Customer Service
I had myself signing up for a free trial at Newspapers.com not too long ago, and boy oh boy, was it a disappointing experience. I was hoping to pull up some items I was looking for, but unfortunately, I wasn't able to find even one. I decided to just cancel my membership on time, but instead of getting a clean break, they took a whopping $73 dollars from my checking account! And even after sending 4 emails and 2 messages over the course of a week, I still haven't received any response from them. And to top it all off, they haven't even bothered to refund my money yet.
That's why I decided to give their "corporate" phone number a call, hoping to speak to a live person, but all I got was a bogus message saying that they were helping other customers at the moment, and asking me to leave my name, email address, and phone number. Who knows if they'll even call me back? I mean, what kind of legitimate company asks you to leave a message instead of taking live calls, am I right? And the fact that they're not responding to my emails just throws up an even bigger red flag for me.
Honestly, if you're thinking of using Newspapers.com, I highly recommend that you just steer clear of them and go somewhere else. You don't want to end up wasting your time, and possibly even your money, on a company that doesn't seem to care about their customers at all.
Newspapers.com: Great Info, Terrible Customer Service
The site of Newspapers (newspapers.com) has got heaps of info can be found there. But I gotta say, the customer service leaves something to be desired. I done signed up for an account (I thought I already had one from a ways back), and they took my money right quick. But when I tried to get into the site, it said I didn't even have an account. After that, I spent a good three weeks calling and emailing them over and over again. But dang, no one ever answered me back and I never got to talk to a real human being. They just ignored most of the emails I sent, except for one where they told me that I had an email address from a company I worked for more than four years ago. They didn't say nothin' about fixing the address to the current one I have right now, or even 'bout how they got that old email in the first place. And when I emailed them again asking to fix the email, they didn't respond at all. So now, even to this day, I can't get into the site, and that's just no good.
Newspapers.com: Great Resource Turned Money-Grab?
I've been using newspapers.com for several years now, and when I first signed up the amount of information available seemed endless. I was thrilled with how easy it was to search through all the newspapers and save the information to my ancestry account. But now, I feel like I'm being taken for a ride with the constant "publisher's upgrade" requirements. It's truly disappointing.
Not only am I already paying $199 a year for ancestry and $30 every six months for newspapers.com, but now it seems like everything I want to see requires an additional $60 every six months. It's a total rip-off. The basic package offers virtually nothing, maybe just a headline or two. I've heard that the reason for this "upgrade" is because of copyright laws, but I can't understand why a death in 1910 or 1887 would require an upgrade as well.
It's frustrating to get excited about finding new information on a hard-to-research ancestor or family member, only to be told that I have to upgrade to access the content. It feels like a constant cycle of "give us more money" and I'm sick of it. And if I upgrade to the publishers, I feel like it's only a matter of time before they introduce the "publishers extra" upgrade for even more money.
I'm done with these games. When my current subscription expires, I will be canceling my account. I refuse to be nickel-and-dimed any longer. It's a shame, because newspapers.com used to be a great resource for genealogy research, but now it's just a money grab.
Newspapers.com Customer Service Review: Frustrating Experience with Nonexistent Support
After using newspapers.com for several years for both work and hobby-related purposes, I have noticed that their customer service leaves much to be desired. When trying to get assistance with problems, the online/email option is effectively nonexistent in real-time. I have attempted to fill out the online assistance form at least six times in the past 10 days during normal business hours to get the company to remove out-of-date information from my subscription so that it can correctly link with my ancestry.com account. However, every time I hit "SEND," the following message appears: "This site is not currently available," followed by a toll-free telephone number that is never answered by anyone in real-time. Instead, a voicemail message offers various "service" options, but there is no guarantee that anyone from newspapers.com will ever actually provide a timely return call or email.
Additionally, newspapers.com made several changes to the way in which newspapers are presented, accessible, and downloadable in the past couple of years. Due to these changes, certain basic features, and adjustments such as contrast, are difficult to use, making for a frustrating experience.
As a customer in California, I am very dissatisfied with the level of service provided by newspapers.com. I have been a longtime member of ancestry.com as well but found that newspapers.com's "customer service" is a sham. It is a real shame that a valuable resource such as newspapers.com is let down by such a poor customer experience. Overall, if you're looking to subscribe to newspapers.com, be aware that you may face multiple issues when trying to get assistance, and you may not even receive the help you need to resolve problems. It is a disappointing experience.
Newspapers.com: Horrible Service and Website Issues, Frustrating Customer Support, Charging More for Less
I been a subscriber to Newspapers.com for many years. Like any online platform, there have been changes and issues along the way. However, since March of 2023, the website has become almost unusable.
For starters, I have been using a specific 12 item search string for years with no problems. Suddenly, in late February, I began receiving the message "Oops, we are having trouble loading results. Try again" when using the same search string. I tried clearing bookmarks and caches and used different devices and browsers without luck. After waiting for an email response, I finally received an answer stating that my search string was too long.
I asked for clarification on why this was happening now after years of using the same search string, but it's now been two and a half months without any response or explanation.
To make matters worse, as of May 19th, I am now unable to use even a 3 item search string, which they initially recommended. Searching by only one item is ridiculous and makes my work redundant.
When trying to resolve my issues, I went to the Service Agreement and followed the instructions to call an Ancestry.com number. Although I spoke to a helpful human who provided me with two numbers to call, neither worked. When I called Ancestry again, I was told that they are only "partners" with Newspapers.com, and there's no way for them to resolve my issues.
It's frustrating that Newspapers.com is charging us more for less, and they're throttling the search engine without explanation. What's the point of the site if it can't be searched? It seems they're taking advantage of their customers to make money off obits and weddings.
Overall, this is a horrible company. I hope there is an alternative out there. If I could give it zero stars, I would.

Newspapers.com Review: Site Has Gone Downhill - Frustrating and Disappointing
of it. Can't even find the old newspapers I used to love reading on here anymore! What a load of baloney. Used to be able to access my local paper from back in the day without any issues, but now I'm lucky if I can even get the site to load. And where did all the good features go? They must have gotten lost in the shuffle. Total waste of time and money if you ask me. Don't bother with this site unless you want to be frustrated and disappointed.
The website for Newspapers (newspapers.com) used to be great, but now it's really gone downhill. Maybe whoever is in charge isn't doing their job right, but it's a real bummer that the site has gotten so bad. It used to be easy to find all sorts of old newspapers and articles that you couldn't find anywhere else, but now it seems like they've all disappeared. I've been trying to access some of my favorite local papers from years ago, but even when I can get the site to load (which is a rare occurrence), they're nowhere to be found. I can't even imagine how frustrating this must be for people who are trying to do serious research.
Another thing that really bothers me is that a lot of the good features seem to have disappeared. I used to love being able to save articles and create collections, but I can't figure out how to do those things anymore. It's like the site has gone backward instead of forward. It's really a shame, because I used to recommend this site to all my friends. Now I tell them to steer clear.
To sum it up, I think that Newspapers used to be a great resource for anyone who was interested in history or just wanted to read some interesting articles from the past. But now, it's just not worth the time or money. The site is frustrating to use, and a lot of the best features have gone missing. I wish I could say something positive about it, but I really can't. Hopefully, whoever is in charge will figure out what's going on and get things back on track, but until then, I think it's best to look elsewhere for your newspaper needs.
Discovering History Through Newspapers: My Experience with a Fantastic Resource
. I was frustrated and thought about giving up, but I refreshed the page a few times and it finally worked. I was able to search and view historical newspapers from all over the country. It's pretty cool to see the news from different time periods and how it was reported. The site is easy to navigate, but sometimes the search results aren't very accurate. Overall, it's a great resource if you're interested in history and journalism. Plus, you can easily download articles as PDFs to save for later.
Travel Back in Time with Newspapers.com: A Review of a Fascinating Historical Archive
Newspapers.com is a really good website where you can read old newspapers! It's super easy to use and there's a lot of cool stuff to see. You can look up newspapers from all over the country and from different time periods. It's kind of like a time machine!
One thing I really liked about newspapers.com is that you can see what life was like a long time ago. You can read about big events like wars and elections, but you can also see what people were wearing and what they were talking about. It's really interesting to read about everyday life in the past.
Another thing I liked is that newspapers.com is super easy to use. All you have to do is type in what you're looking for, and it will show you all the articles it has. You can even save the articles you like, so you can read them again later.
The only downside of newspapers.com is that sometimes the articles are hard to read. They're from a long time ago, so the writing isn't always very clear. But that's just part of the fun of it! It's like figuring out a puzzle.
Overall, I would definitely recommend newspapers.com to anyone who likes history or just wants to see what life was like in the past. It's a really cool website, and I can't wait to read more articles!

Newspapers.com Access Issues and Frustration with Popups: A Disappointing Experience
i tried to use newspapers.com but i had some issues with the access. there were so many popups that frustrated me and made me waste my time. honestly, it was a big disappointment and i felt like i was wasting my money on it. i ended up canceling the subscription right away because i just couldn't handle it. i think they need to figure it out and make it easier to use for regular people who are not tech-savvy like me.
Unhappy with Newspapers.com Subscription Renewal and Billing Process
I joined newspapers.com last year and paid up for one year. Just last week, I received a mail from them stating that they are gonna renew my subscription again. So, I took to my email to ask them to hold their horses and cancel that $59 yearly deal. Since then, I haven't received any response from them yet and they went ahead to make the charges on my credit card. I ain't too happy bout that, you know.
