Office Depot review: Returning merchandise 48

This review was chosen algorithmically as the most valued customer feedback.

I have been a Office Depot customer for a number of years. Here in McAllen there is a choice of stores such as Best Buy, Wal Mat, Target, and other office supplies stores but I had made my choice to be Office Depot.
I purchased several ink cartriges at the Office Depot on 10th street here in McAllen. My printer went out and I was left with one ink cartirge and had no need for it. By this time I no longer had the receipt but I thought I could get credit for it and purchse something else in the near future. I was told by the cashier and the so called manager that without the receipt I would not be able to return it. I asked that all I wanted was a credit and did not need a monetary exchange. They insisted that the policy was the same and a receipt was still needed. All the stores mentioned above and others not mentioned have no problem issuing a credit in lieu of money returned when there is no receipt. What makes Office Depot so different from the other businesses in this respect. In my opinion Office Depot needs to change their policy and get off their high horse and treat customers better. Like I said here in McAllen we have a choice as to what stores we want to make our purchases at so unless customers are breaking down your doors to get in I would give this policy a second thought. I had no use for the ink cartrige so I left it at your store and told your manager to keep it. I hope you can resell it and make a profit on it as you probably need it.

THANK YOU FOR NOTHING
A DISSATISFIED CUSTOMER

In July 2017 I purchased an HP NV550 Laptop computer. At the checkout the sales person offered me a two year extended warranty that he said would run after the 1 year HP warranty expired giving me 3 years of total coverage.

Well when the laptop died recently I called Office Depot only to be told that the warranty ran from the date of purchase, not the expiration of the HP warranty. So I essentially paid for 1 year of useless coverage.

Office Depot's response to me "You should have read the contract before buying it."

How callous of an attitude.

Needless to say I am done with Office Depot and HP.

I am specifically complaining about Office Depot at 12190 BISCAYNE BLVD. at N.E. 122 ST.Store# 25 NORTH MIAMI, FL 33181. The employee's name is Roger. Because of him you have not only lost me as a customer, but also my company. Whenever we had an office emergency, this is the place where I sent my employees with the company credit card to get whatever supplies were necessary. Because of the lack of professionalism of one employee, we will boycott your company, and I will deter anyone I know from sponsoring/patronizing Office Depot.

This was the 2nd time today that I was disappointed with your lack of customer service and the unbelievable lack of concern for good customer care. This afternoon, all I needed was printer ink. I approached this gentleman - and I use the term loosely - who mumbles the ink code and walks away. I assume he went to get the ink. Ten minutes later, I am still standing and waiting. I went to look for assistance, and realized he is outside flirting with someone. I walked outside and told him I was waiting for my ink, and he laughed like I was some *** customer bothering him. How unbelievably unprofessional, condescending!

This is how companies lose customers, upsetting one customer at a time. I am certain I am not the first customer you have disappointed. Luckily, Office Max is across the street. Within 5 minutes I was out of the store with my ink. You will never see me or my employees at your ridiculous, unprofessional, and poorly managed company again. I will give you another 3 years before you file chapter 11. Office Max was packed and buzzing with customers. Your store even though had more parking was pretty empty. tsk, tsk, tsk, what does that tell you Office Depot, a better employee training program or get rid of incompetent people who walk away from a customer to pursue more personal matters?

I recently ordered a desk from Office Depot and have since found that their delivery service and customer service are both worthless. The delivery date was supposed to be March 23rd and it is now pushed back to the 31st because someone forgot to load it on the truck today. Their delivery vendor only solution was to schedule it 7 days out. The customer service agent I contacted at the Office Depot started the conversation off with “it’s only an estimate” and “it wasn’t in stock” so they could not deliver it – then just kept repeating himself. Too bad the warehouse already told me that it was in-stock and just wasn’t loaded. The supervisor was not much either – she did finally open a complaint after a prolonged conversation but offered me no help at all in resolving this.

DO NOT ORDER furniture that is delivered by truck and not by UPS or FedEx – the delivery vendor (Excel Direct) is worthless and does not care about its customer’s delivery.

A check is never same as cash and all retailers have a waiting time on checks electronic or not. An ACH transaction is to guaranteed until the funds a credited days later to the retailer.
And if you'd called me at home, I'd be upset also.

sold extended computer service policy for laptop. i specifically asked for a three year coverage. they sold me a two year plan that they said takes effect after the one year manufacturer warranty to total three years.

i have 6 mos left and requested a replacement battery, as the current will not hold a charge any longer. they said that i am not covered, the two year started on day one parallel to the manufacturers warranty. there was no consolation, just 'no'.

this burns me because i have no protection and i know i specifically requested this and was assured by the sales staff that this is what i was purchasing.

You go in the store. Five plus workers. Hard to get someone to wait on you. "oh, I don't do that, go see Phil. He is over there somewhere. You go look, you will find him." Check out time. One cashier, five people in line. Three workers shooting the breeze in copy center. Two others standing around watching the line get bigger while they visit. Embarassed they walk away to talk out of sight of the customers. I finally set my stuff down and walk out of store. Oh, I forgot, I did find Phil. He got mad at ME for looking for him. I tried to explain the other guy sent me over. Well he just thinks that guy is a dope for doing that. Phil asks me what I was looking for. I tell him. He sends me back to that guy. That guy says, "oh, you did not make yourself clear. All you had to do was tell me exactly what you wanted. Here it is, under your nose the whole time. Then the mess at the checkout happened. And to make it worse, they are all like that! I buy at Costco.com now. Easier, overnight, no freight charges.

"Sales" people are experts only in half-truths and deceptions. The only information you can rely upon exists on the net through expert and peer reviews. I've bought a couple of laptops at ODP in the past three years because they were great values. Didn't need to speak to anyone except I'll take that one. No accessories and stopped them before the extended nonsense pitch. I guess I'm their worst case scenario - no add-ons and a break even or money losing laptop.
The extended nonsense plans are from DAY 1 exactly for no reason other than to mask the mfr warranty. If you paid for damage/spills, that is the only thing covered in year 1 otherwise. The plan prices are abject ripoffs - along with those of Worst Buy, Staples, Sears, etc. Buyer beware still reigns supreme.

Sales people push warranty even when told "don't want it" many times, finally they tell wife that the warranty will cover the unit even it it was dropped and damaged. Son calls from college, computer not working and svc center says its drop damage and not covered under the warranty sold. You need a lawyer to read warranty and decypher the alphabet soup they put in.
