PECO Slow in completing paperwork to turn on electric

I am a landlord who has rental property. one of my tenants moved and turned her electric off. I called to have electric turned back on in my name. I was told by PECO it would take 3 business days. I have another tenant moving in so I informed him to put it in his name because it didn't make sense to lose 3 days and have to start over with his application.

Long story short, the previous tenant was a dead-beat! Never paid electric so my current tenant and myself are being penalized. Peco let previous tenants electric bill go over $2, 000 (why?!, I don't know!) so instead of just clicking on the power, we have to go through a long process to get electric turned on. It is now going on 10 days! New tenant has children and need a place to stay but can't stay without electric!

Poor customer service from Peco! shame on them for letting someone's bill get that high and then making landlord and incoming tenants suffer!BAD BUSINESS.

BECAUSE THEY ARE THE ONLY ELECTRIC COMPANY AROUND THEY DON'T CARE!

PECO No electric power for over 4 days.

PECO has been saying that our power would be restored today. Well, no one showed up. We have had no power for over 4 days. There are between 30 and 50 houses here with no power. Your customer service is pathetic.
When you make a promise, you keep it. If I could switch power companies, I would do it in a heartbeat. We have been freezing at night, cannot cook food, and the food that we have is spoiled.

PECO Peco requiring a deposit of two months average service

I have been a PECO customer in my same house since 1998. Since then I would estimate I have paid over $110, 000 worth of electric/gas bills. Unfortunately, several months ago, I made a bill paying timing mistake where I paid a month late for several months in a row. PECO stopped my service without notifying me other than I guess a letter which I never received. I paid the entire past due immediately and the power was restored with in and hour. Now they are requiring a deposit of $948.00 which I guess is an average of two months. My options are (1) to pay it or (2) have no power. When I called up customer service, they did some type of calculation and said "unfortunately I make too much money and need to pay the deposit". So, the bottom line is, if I didn't make enough money and couldn't pay my bills, my deposit would have been less or not at all. This makes "NO" sense, since typically the more money you earn the less risk you are as a customer and therefore the deposit would normally be less or not at all. This doesn't even take into account that I have been paying them for nearly 20 years with out a hitch. Bottom line is that PECO is putting their risk on poor paying customers on the backs of the strong customers. I have zero options, I can't even go to a competitor because there are none... And everyone wonders why everbody is so angry in the world these days.

PECO Electric service

Peco sends me cut-off notices every month, even when I don't owe them past due, the tipping point for me is that now they only waited a week. A ten day cut off notice for 196.00 current bill. No past due. pure harassment. I just settled the one less then a week ago for 191.00 in time. I don't know what is going on with corporations just treating people like atms taking what they want and coheresing people when they can. I will take my cut-off notices to the courthouse tomorrow and see if i can get a restraining order against them issuing cutoff notices to me.

P.S. This is out of control.

PECO Refusal to disclose complete information regarding cause and prevention of power surge

October 21, 2015 A vehicle struck (no injuries) PECO Utility Pole # 434 which is over 2 miles from my home. 30, 000 volts shot through 30 homes in my area which caused considerable damage. My neighbors on either side of me were not affected. PECO's linemen went door-to-door that evening. That NEVER happened before. In spite of two home power surge protectors which were completely destroyed, I incurred over $15, 000 worth of damage. (The Claims Department of the owner of the vehicle's Auto Insurance has contacted us. No information regarding how much will be reimbursed has been disclosed.) I have lived here for 34 years. I survived Hurricane Sandy, ice storms, vehicles striking utility poles and never suffered any losses due to power outages and/or power surges. I have hit a brick wall trying to find an answer as to why my home was a target for this massive power surge. I can only assume that PECO did or failed to do something that caused this horrific event. What is the secret that PECO is running away from?

State Farm v. PECO :: 2012 :: Pennsylvania Superior Court ... http://law.justia.com/cases/pennsylvania/superior-court/2012/1664-eda-2011.html

appears they never pay - seems like a utility company has to have some technical provision to address power surges and lighting strikes- given home owners are expected to take precautions- and just who is insuring them?

PECO 10 day shout off notice

I received a 10 Day Shut Off Notice from PECO for failure to provide access to a meter. The Notice has nothing to do with payment and I always pay every month in a timely manner. I live in an apartment complex and have for the last 29 years with no problem with PECO or any meter problems. I have no knowledge about meters. My PECO Bill states the meter is read automatically and gives the date when the meter was read last month. The apartment complex manager says the PECO Notice is a stupid mistake. The account number on the Notice is not my PECO account number. You would think this would be a simple matter but it is a nightmare. Please help.

PECO Account transfer

More than 15 years ago, I bought a property, opened a Peco account, and remained with them continously since. During that time, I paid all bills in full and on time. A few years ago, I relocated, kept the property, and started to lease it. However, Peco mailed bills to my new address for resources I consumed during periods I did not have a tenant.

I recently ended a lease agreement with a tenant and called Peco to transfer the account back to my name. Peco refused. When I asked why they would not, they said it is because the tenant left a very large unpaid bill. I asked what I needed to do to have the account transferred to my name. I was told that I would have to give them my SSN so they can first verify there are no outstanding balance associated to that number. I reluctantly gave my SSN. The woman then said I needed to provide two forms of ID as well as proof of ownership. I then asked whether after capturing my SSN, whether their system showed that I owed Peco any money. She said that there were no outstanding balances.

I thought the woman was either sick, or worse, I was experiencing an out-of-mind experience. There is absolutely no way the human mind can imagine such absurdity. But that's before I got a glimpse in to what resides at Peco. I hung up, and called back. The new rep told me the same thing.

I could be wrong, but assuming Peco "cares" about its customers, can Peco or its parent, Excelon, help me understand the following:
1) why compel me to verify my identity even though I've maintained 15+ years continuous services
2) considering was not paying tge bills as expected, why did you not terminate services before he accured such a large balance
3) why impose such demands and costs on me even though it is blatantly clear that I am the same property owner today, as I was 15 years ago, and that i don't owe you any balances
4) what risk are you mitigating or what value are you providing by making such demands
5) so lets see, my tenant screw you out of money - OK I got that. And because of that, you make these stupid demands because doing so will ... I don't get it. Please help me understand
6)I have the strange feeling that a well managed customer centric company would have asked for a lease agreement or similar document to verify that I have a tenant at the time. Peco didn't. I wonder why. If you had adked, I would have gladly provided the agreement. I might have also provided a copy of the Aqua bill that the tenant also has not paid. Did I mention that Aqua transferred the water account back to my name, but my house still stinks because I still don't have electricity
7) I asked on two occasions to speak with a senior manager. I was told no one was avaliable, but one will contact me. However, a customer service supervisor called days later; the line went dead while I was explaining my issues. I called back the number, was told to hold, and held for at least 20 minutes before hanging up. Was I having an out-of-mind experience?
8) ...

The way I see it Peco does not care a damn about its customers, especially since it does not have any real competition in my area. And by the way Peco, based on other complaints about you that I've found, you are parasite and you seem to relish it

PECO Customer service

We had the same issue with peco. We call peco to change our service under our name and they stated that old tenant had unpaid balance. They ask for lease, two forms of ID after three days they finally received our document. Then they had to verify with landlord. it took one week for them to contact our landlord and everytime we call them they will say something different and now, they want us to pay 900 dollars from the previous tenant in order to get light. This is the worst company and the WORST customer service ever. I still can't believe we have to pay other people account in order to get service. They are lucky there only company in our township that provide electricity. I think that why they take advantage of there customer. WORST COMPANY EVER !

PECO The worst customer service: what if I freeze and die, it is not my problem

I bought a property in Clifton Heights and called PECO to start service at this location. In the first pass they turned on the Electricity. I wondered why my heater and gas stove is not working.
January 28, 2015: I called back PECO on Jan 28, 2015 at 4.24PM to ask why my gas stove and heater is not working. The customer service rep informed me that someone needs to be at the premise to start the gas service. He said he could schedule me for Jan 29th, between 12.00 - 7.00 PM, with half an hour call ahead. Fair enough, I informed my work that I might have to leave early if I get a call.
January 29, 2015: the temperature outside is 36 degree, I got of my work early, went to the place and sat there waiting for my only gas supplier to give me a call. It is 2.00PM, 3.00 PM, 4.00PM, 5.00PM..no call
At 5.35 PM I called PECO to know the status and interestingly the Customer service Rep (Jasmine) mentioned that it is routed to an emergency service so they have 24 hrs to complete the job and they might come any time..it could be midnight, early morning or next day afternoon and they will just show up. So some one has to be present at the premise. That sounded very wierd and stupid that to start a service.
At 6.03PM, I called their emergency line whether any thing could be done and the answer was to start a service i have to call a customer service.
At 6.11 PM, I called customer service again and the answer was, yes they are on the way and will be at the location, so please wait there. As I was in need, I waited till 9.00 PM to see if any angels from PECO was going to show up. Sadly, no one showed up.

January 30, 2015: another cold day called PECO to see what I can do to get my gas connection started. Called PECO at 11.27 AM and the answer was nothing could be done on 1/30.
Since I was at work, I asked my wife to give PECO a call and see what can be done. They said they could do a anytime service and someone has to be there.
Another cold day temp is around 30 degrees, Well we needed the service I was there from 1.00PM to 7.00PM nobody showed up. I hope who all were slacking is end up in hell. How can any company be so irresponsible and ignorant. especially when they are supporting necessary service like gas and electricity.
January 31st, 2015: After almost 3 hrs of customer service talks and varying information from each person, having no proactive contact to me as a customer and then employees lying that they showed up the fact is that I still, don't have the gas connection started. In my life I have never been frustrated so much. Why is PECO such a miserable company. Is it because they have a monopoly, is it because they are lacking proper leadership, is it that they are lacking accountability. Whatever it is, I am hoping that proper action is taken before it is too late and one of your consumer turns crazy.
I gave up. As of today, someone else is moving into that location and they have a request in.

Well we went to apply for service in my fiances' name and they claimed he had to pay previous balance from someplace he didn't ever live at in order to get service when my attorney asked them to send the authorization papers opening that account that was sent to them they couldn't provide it...now the balance was $314, since a $300 deposit is required on a new account we just paid the balance assuming that the people who stole his identity paid a deposit...now they are asking for another $300.00 deposit for the same account, prior to that the old woman renting our home paid $2, 600 in 6 months to peco and they still claim she owed them $1, 500 for other charges when we asked where the bill was for those charges they said it's on its way...how can you shut off service for a bill you haven't received and don't even know what it's for...they have become out of control and I believe it's time for someone to file a class action against that company they are continually attempting to rob their customers it's getting ridiculous

PECO Illegal shut off and won't turn back om

I have had the worst experience with peco in pa. I received a bill for august 9tt. And one week later they turned my power off iwithout a written notification and no message. I called and they said they had sent a letter (which I didn't receieve and that they spoke with someone. They did not speak to me. We made payment arrangements and they said they would turn on in 72 hours. I called every day. We live in an apt complex where someone is there st the office sll day and on the last day my husband took off of work. And they never came! I called today to ask why it wasn't turned on and I was told that the guy came out. Which was anither false statement. They couldn't give me name of technician. Or any info as to what happened. They then insisted that thatbe only recourse was to actually put a brand new order in and actually suggested that it could be another 72 hours. I have put in a complaint at puc. However would like to know what else can be done. My doctor has also been faxed and will respond today however I feel that this company is shady in their dealings. Has no regard for their customers and feel as though there is no other recourse for the public! You can change a supplier but that would take a month and technically you would be still going thru peco. I would like to take this further but do not know what other recourse there is. Help [protected]@gmail.com.

Carygrant have a little compassion. Even if they were behind the payment was made and it would take peco 30 secs to turn there power back on. 24 to 72 hours for power to be restored is crazy. It didnt take them 24 to 72 hours to shut it off. Geeeezz

PECO Horrible customer service

I had such a bad experience with PECO. I never had to deal with them before i moved to PA. Horrible customer service. Every time i call i have a different person telling me completely different information and no one seems to understand how frustrating it is to not get the right information in one phone call. This last call really got me annoyed because i was calling to have a technician not show up at my old PA address since it was not necessary and the customer service person didn't understand a word i was saying and kept repeating herself. I was just trying to be nice and not have the technician waist his time but in return i was being yelled at the phone. When i asked for her name, she gave me her first name staying "i don't need to give you my last name". Completely rude and it made me feel like they have no idea what they are doing at their jobs. I hate dealing with them. 8/10/11

PECO Terrible customer service

I defaulted on a payment agreement with a matter of hours after it was due. It was due on a thursday and I did not get paid until friday. I paid immediately friday morning, but they considered it a default and would not let me re-instate my payment agreement. They are now charging me $900 for a re-instatement fee for my electric to be turned back on. I have a $0 balance under my name with peco, but bc I lived with someone who did not pay their electric, I benefited and therefore can not have service turned on at my address. I asked them, "so if this person never pays their balance, then I can never recieve service even though I do not owe peco one cent?" and they responded "exactly. Have you looked into finding a homeless shelter?" I called and spoke with over 12 people, and each person gave me a different response to my problem. Not one person there had any respect and were very insulting and rude. And they know they can do this, bc it is a monopoly and they own all the power lines. I have called my state respresentative because I just find this to be unfair that they can treat people how they want, because they know they can. I am a struggling single mother, making less than $1000 a month to support me and my child. Rent, food, child care, insurance, gas, phone, ect. And I know I am one of thousands in the same position. I think there should be another company that offers electric because I can now not get electric bc of someone I lived with chose to take the money I gave him for electric and spend it on something else, now leaving me and my child with no access to power. The customer service is absolutely horrendous and the lack of couth and respect for another human being they have, is just sad. I hope they can sleep at night knowing they are putting people on the streets. Because once my electric goes out, my landlord with evict me bc the electric needs to be on at all times. So thanks peco for screwing people over, bc you need an extra dollar in your pocket. Sleep tight. Karma sucks.

PECO Lack of customer service

I am purchasing a home in PA and needed to get the electricity turned on in order to do a home inspection. when i called PECO i had to wait on hold for about 25 minutes to even speak to the first person who took all my info, then I get switched to another person that also needs all my info again and tells me that nothing is in the computer. They tell me i need to fax (not email) a copy of confidential records including my birth certificate, sale agreement and photo id. So I pay the $10 to have all of that faxed to them. The next day I call and they switch me to 3 people who all take all of my info again and when I get to the third person, she puts me on hold and then hangs up on me. I had to call back and wait another 25 min to talk to another human which then took my info again and passed me off to another person who took all my info again and told me that they could not find the address in the system of the house where i needed the power turned on. Luckily the realtor had given me the previous owner's account number and PECO was then able to find the address because they have it misspelled in their system and for some unknown reason, they cannot correct it. So I asked if they received my fax. The reply was that they get thousands of faxes and it would take at least 3 days to enter my info from the fax into their system. I told them the previous owner's acct number was not on the fax and they will not be able to find the address which is on the fax. THey said they would call me...once they get to my fax it will take another 3 days to set up an appt to get the power turned on. I asked for the billing dept manager's name and conveniently they could not tell me who that was...BS...what a horrible company and horrible customer service, not looking forward to dealing with them and im not even officially their customer yet! UGH

PECO Continuing service under my name for a year!

I lived in a house with 10 other roomates; after facing loss of power, I decided to take the utility up in my name. 3 months went by, with a bill of $1000, and I only was able to collect $300, and was unable to pay the bill. My lease was up and PECO said they'd turn the power off, I didn't mind. We then tried to transfer my name out of the service. Not only did PECO reinstate my name on the service... they let it go on for 10 more months while I did not live at the residence anymore, racking a bill up of $10k! When I finally found this out (after having moved to FL), I talked with a complaints representative at PECO, and they agreed with me. But after talking to their manager, they refused to call me back and had a normal operator tell me my claim was denied. They then shuffled my balance off to a creditor. This company is a real piece of s*** and someone really needs to break the monopoly these companies have over these utilities to encourage more customer friendly service, rather than rape us!

I had nearly the exact same thing done to me by peco! I was 6mos pregnant with my 1st child and my dr. put me on hospital bedrest for the remainder of my pregnancy. Within the 3mos i had to now spend laying on a hospital bed my lease was up the end of march (put in hosp in the begining of feb) and i had to move. Luckily for me i have a wonderful family who provided me all the help i needed with packing and moving, which was ALOT of help needed! During the last week of march i called peco to terminate my service at the address and gave them my new address to send me the last mos bill. Time passed and i never recieved a bill for the month of march. With being a new mommy & living with my mother again that last peco bill was the farthest thing from my mind! That september however, I finally did recieve the bill..why it took 6mos was explained when i opened it..the bill was for over 3K! When i called i was told they have it on record that i called that last week in march but i never requested service termination. I was billed until that august when a new tenant finally moved into my old apt! The bill should have been back in the landlords name from that march til the new tenants took over. When i asked what they put in thier computer as the reason why i called in march i was told the woman couldnt access that part of my account. So, they can tell me i called them in march but not WHY i called them, which i know is something they keep on file.
I now have my 1st son, who will be 3 in april & my 2nd son who was just born the end of august. The two of them plus myself are in our own apt now and, surprise surprise, i need peco in my name. I was told they would shut my services off and i would have no electricity or gas until i paid the $3, 000 PLUS deliquent fees...!?!?!? When i told them my toddler is using a nebulizer daily they told me i had one week to get a medical form filled out and sent back to them or the shut off would take place...it took 10 days to get the paper from peco! Thank God the pediatrician was helpful & faxed the form for me immediately after filling it out. But now i havea deffered payment plan & was put on the cap program...neither u can EVER pay late & i recieved an automated msg today telling my i didnt pay januarys bill and will lose my pay plan if i do not pay $58 immediately. Im terrified now on where im going to get diapers and other neccesities because i had $65 left for these things and had to put it towards peco because theyre claiming i never paid my bill..which of course i did because i cannot afford to pay everything from the past plus the present, obviously otherwise i wouldnt ask for a pay plan.
i really wish there was a company besides peco out there for gas and electric because they are horrible...all aspects of this company are horrible! They make you feel like crap when your having a hardtime and could care less about us as customers or simply people...its time for some HUUUGE changes peco, lets go!

PECO Pirating previous. Renter to my account!

I went with my friend to pay her grandmothers bill to the office. You know, just a regular walk in and pay in full thing last yr. (09). I asked the woman behind the counter that since my license was due to be re-newed, I was going to be renting a home in the next couple months, (I was leaving my boyfriend, didn't want him to know, told him I didn't want to drive anymore) so should I use what would be my new address on it, or the current one. She said, and I quote
"you should use the one you're moving into, why go through all the dmv stuff again if you don't have to?"..so I did.

I re-newed my license in Jan 09(my deed was made out for May, the people renting were moving, the landlord told me I better "snap it up" while I could, so I did.It was mine, I just couldn't move in til May)

Ok, this is where it gets really ugly.

I moved in, went to have the service turned on, and was told that since my license tapped back to this address from 4 months earlier, I was responsible for the OTHER renters ENTIRE bill that they had skipped on! To the tune of, almost 3000.00! They refused to turn my elec. on! I finally, after 4 days of trying to call them every chance I got from work, got a supervisor who turned me on as a new customer...but wait.

2 months later...in June, and after keeping MY payments current...they tacked on that back amt. from the other renter again! They REFUSE to take it off! After more complaining, they then, get this, tacked on 300.00, for being a new customer! Ontop of the "old renters back bill"! (Make up my mind already!)What the h*ll kind of company is this!?

I told them, I refuse now to pay ANY bill, because what I would pay, went to the OTHER persons back balance, not MY current bill.

Isn't this illegal!?

My dad has cancer, I used 3 medical emergency papers, so we don't qualify for that. My Mom moved in, called annon, with a "just asking a question" thing, and they told her, she would be responsible for all previous delinquent elec. bills if it were put in her name! Whoever lived here before, if her license came back here, she was resposible for it.
her "new" bill, and this which is now a combo of previous renter & mine.

After her prodding about "what if i rented a room from someone weekly, does that still hold true if they don't pay?" YES! because even though she would be renting a room, WITH a lease by the WEEK, (to help me with my Dad, they're divorced), HER license would come back to "an unpaid address"!

WTF!? I'm being shut off in 2 weeks, with NO chance of getting it turned back on!

Gas & Water? Those other people owed them, but I wasn't held responsible for it. I need help, someone, please give me a different provider or advice or something. By the time I get back to this, I'm SURE, I'll have to walk to the library and use their computer because I won't have electric!

Thanks all, for letting me vent. I'm so sorry, but I'm really upset about this.Especially with my Dad being here & all, with no alternative.I now owe, wth that back bill, and my current, over 4000.00 that will follow me no matter where I go. I have no prob. making an agreement for my back bill, but I'll be d**ned if I'm gonna pay my current to go towards someone elses back.

Anyone know of any decent elec. providers in philadelphia? Any tricks? Free lawyers? I'm desperate, and I've HAD it, especially, since my Dad is involved with no elec, ontop of being so sick. He won't even be able to read or watch tv, just sit and think, about what his life has become..

I'm about, to lose my mind..

first off PECO and the PUC are hand in hand when it comes to screwing over the consumer, i too was/in the same situation and this has been ongoing battle for over 3 yrs, finally i can say that after 4 yrs [payment plan ends 3-2011] i will finally be paid off with PECO and their thieving ways. i unfortunately was made responsible for a *previous* bill owed on an address and was told quite bluntly by a PECO customer service rep " if you want service at this address, you will have to take responsiblity for its amount owed "...well i feel your pain and sadly we really dont have other electric choices, since all of the power in this area comes from PECO, the other providers are merely re-selling the same electricity at a much higher rate. so here are some thoughts for you, complain to the PUC...wait that wont work since the current members are all being paid by PECO [not directly but in some form, as their findings have always sided with PECO, not the complaintant]...best you can do is suck it up and hope for a payment you can afford, do NOT let them talk you into a budget plan, this will only add to the misery, get a payment plan and pay it on time plus whatever electricity you use...good luck on your battle and hopefully others will see thins also share thier experieinces woth PECO. bear in mind any favorable comments are those of PECO employees to hopefyully taint the real picture of this evil corporation. PECO= screw the consumer, plain and simple and there is no other way to express that...CHEERS .Yarddog

PECO Peco energy inadequate service

My husband works in construction. Everyone is aware that if there is inclement weather there is NO work. Plus think about the bad winter we had this year. I called to ask if I can pay the past due balance into 2 installments. They replied that you can only make an extension for the full amount for 7 days. So I called back when the extension was up and I paid 50% of the past due amount to get an extension for the balance for 7 more days and was denied. They don't seem to understand that we are still in a recession and sometimes people need assistance.

They only do whatever they wanted to us because there is no other provider. If it was the competition would run their business and customer service out of business. PECO Energy is a licensed mafia organization. They should be brought up on racketeering charges.

I really wish I did not have to deal with PECO!

PECO Bad wires

On Thursday, 11/19/2009 at 3 am in the morning I herd a poping sound outside. When I looked out the window I saw the electric wires along my neighbors row house on fire and making a poping noise. I immediately called PECO and was assured that they would send someone out. Well, its been 4 days now Monday 11/23/2009 and still no Peco and also my neighbor whos wires are involved called them. Their electric is going off and on. I hope that they do not catch fire again. Peco service sucks. I am going to try to choose another electric company. They are ###s. Frustrated in Wissinoming Philadelphia.
