Unable to get a refund due to Maui Wildfires
I made a timeshare reservation for Kaanapali Beach Club resort on Maui for Sept 14 - 21, 2023. Since the wildfires the Hawaii governor issued a proclamation that non essential travel to Maui be avoided. I have contacted Redweek on August 14th and received a canned response saying unless there is an evacuation no refund will be issued. I then contacted the resort, Kaanapali Beach Club, and they advised they are closed and to deposit the time for future use or contact the third party vendor for refund. On August 20, I then advised Redweek that the resort is closed and would like a refund. The response is we are working on the issue by check in date.
The first response from Redweek should have stated this and not a standard response. Also, no date was given when they will look at my check in date or if they will refund my money. I have already canceled my car reservation and airfare. I would like this issue resolved as soon as possible.
Desired outcome: Desired outcome refund of my money $2205. by September 1, 2023.
Rental of Timeshare
Redweek's own site says no cancelations within 60 days of the vacation and my listing was specific no refunds upon cancelation. Redweek allowed a rented to cancel their reservation 2 WEEKS before the start date and refunded their money. Not only did I pay Redweek to list my timeshare but they gave me no time to find another renter. In fact the day before I received the cancelation from Redweek I had 2 people interested in my listing but told them it was already rented. Phone calls and emails to Redweek went unanswered. The ONLY communication I received was a voice mail claiming my emails were answered and to check my spam/junk folder. I did and found Redweek outright lied to me as there was nothing in the spam folder. They charged me to list my timeshare rental AND charge the buyer to purchase through Redweek . DO NOT USE REDWEEK it is a rip off and they do not respond to inquiries or complaints.
Desired outcome: Refund of rental agreed to
Payment
I was trying to become a member and after putting all my credit card information and clicked pay. Which was $18 it said there was an error on my card and I rechecked it and tried again and same thing happened. Only when I went to check my bank I was able to see that they charged my card both times successfully! They charged me twice and still didn't even give me the membership I paid for twice!
Desired outcome: Refund for second purchase and membership

redweek full service posting
I signed up for Redweek's Full Service Posting to sell my timeshare. Their FAQ section of their website promises that the commssion would be no greater than $399 or 3% of the sales price. In my case, the greater number was $399. They claim there are no additional fees. Yet when I got the closing documents, I saw that Redweek was taking $750 instead of their stated maximum of $399. Very deceptive.
It states on their website $399 OR 3% of the sales price(whichever is greater) I don’t see any deception; you obviously misunderstood the wording.
Breaking A Law
I'm and attorney in CA., and it's against the law for any company to list the sale of a timeshare, UNLESS there a broker or and licensed realtor working for a broker. It's also against CA law to charge upfront fee's to list timeshares unless your a broker.THIS IS A SCAM COMPANY BEWARE !
They work out of there home:
They use a P.O.Box:
They have no phone numbers:
They are not brokers in Ca. or any other state.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
The resale of a timeshare is a legitimate business. Companies agree to advertise a timeshare for a fee on their websites. As with advertising, the membership doesn´t need to sell in order the fees to be legitimate. The difference between an honest timeshare resale company and a scam, is when the company falsely suggest they have a buyer waiting for their timeshare, or picture unrealistic, overoptimistic selling possibilities. These are good articles on how to get out of timeshare scams:
