David Schaffner is a crook — run keeping your hands on your wallet
This [censored] has had my engine for over a year. He has excuse after excuse after excuse. Last excuse is that a raccoon fell through the roof of his shop causing a water leak into my engine. After all of this he tells me he is sending me an invoice for additional required work. He has been sued so many times the Attorney General of Indiana knows him by name. All of his addresses, even the Las Vegas, NV address, are UPSP or UPS post boxes. This guy is so slimy he gives Indiana a bad name. Stay away from him, his shop, his work. Pay extra and get the work done, done correctly, and have your engine returned to you!
Recommendation: DO NOT, REPEAT, DO NOT USE THIS SHOP OR ANYTHING WITH DAVID SCHAFFNER'S NAME ATTACHED TO IT. IT IS DESTINED FOR FAILURE

Guys a know it all [censored] and a condescending [censored]. Go elsewhere. Tried to inquire as to whether he had a replacement for the motor that's in my van. He starts by telling me ford didn't ever use that engine in a van. Wrong. Any and all ford documentation on the 61-67 econoline vans has the 170 listed as one of the main motors used albeit a small one. Then he asks if I know what a long block is so now im being quizzed and he says he doesn't want to seem rude but can't waste his time explaining what things are. What a dick

The delivery date has long passed. They informed me of an initial delay when I inquired, but since then they are not responding to inquiries via email nor answering the phone.
On March 25th I received this message:

Your order is going to be started 03/30/21. There are 3 more engines for

engine remanufactured
In April of 2018 I had made arrangements with Engines LLC for the professional remanufacturing procedure on my Volvo AQ 131d 4 cylinder 2.3L marine gasoline engine. I was required to pay $ 4045.00 in advance, this money included shipping to and from my residence to the engine remanufacturing facility in Merrillville Indiana. I paid by personal check number 2320 on 1 May 2018. The company had claimed to perform the engine remanufacture within 60 days, as stated on their website link (http://remanufactured.com/Inboard_Marine_Engines.htm) this time frame would have put the completion date at around mid-September of 2018, at that time I had begun the first of many inquiries into what the status was on my engine. This is when much disappointment and constant excuses began. I had received many new completion dates since then. I have a record of e-mail inquiries from September 2018 through August 2019 each time I was told a new shipping and completion date. The total amount of time the engine was at the remanufacturing facility was approximately 15 months rather than 60 days turnaround as claimed by the information on their website. When I finally got my engine back on 08/26/2019 I noticed a plug inside of the cooling water port where the water pump mounts to the engine. When I delivered the engine to the marine repair facility for installation in my boat, the Mechanic recommended that the engine go to a local machine shop for inspection due to problems that he spotted. The engine was delivered to WSK machine in Roseburg Oregon for inspection. After inspection it was determined that the rods and main bearings had never been replaced, valves were out of adjustment, and head bolts needed replacement and cylinders and crank shaft needed cleaned honed and polished. It became very apparent that the remanufacturing facility in Merrillville Indiana did little in the 15 months that the engine was in their shop, besides take it apart put it back together with old parts paint it and send it back. It is my understanding that this company has been doing shoddy work for quite some time according to the better business bureau and reviews by other customers on the internet. I feel very foolish for sending my engine out for a remanufacturing job and wish I had checked the BBB before I did it, as it stands right now I paid $4045.00 and had to have it repaired properly for an additional $845.00. I feel it is justified that I be refunded the full amount I had paid out

Ordered a motor 6g72 TT to be rebuilt, dean told me 30 days, months passed by I called and the said the crank was bad, ok fair enough wait another 2 months no call no email no nothin, I call again he tells me this time hes waiting on parts, another 2 months go by still no communication, the excuses never end these people are scam artists, it took the police and FBI, and a court case threatened upon them before I finally got a check for my money back a year later, DO NOT ORDER FROM THESE CLOWNS

engine
I guess I'm the most recent fool. After Paying them for an engine a got to me and it was the wrong engine. Understandably upset I contacted the company day eggs me to send the engine back along with my core. After they picked up both engines I didn't hear anything from them so I had to contact Them about a week later. They wouldn't answer my phone calls but the lady Laura I think send emails of the 2 engines saying that they were not ship correctly and I would basically be responsible for any damage that was done to the engine that they sent. After that they didn't answer any more of my phone calls and said that they would only contact me through email. They said it would only take week maybe 2 to inspect both engines. A month later I still don't have any idea what's going on with the engines nor have I spoken to anyone. And then I found this page of complaints and am horrified that I am the next fool in line. And then I found this page of complaints and am horrified that I am the next fool in line
You have to get law enforcement agencies involved in order to get any resolution. Otherwise, Dean, Laura, David (and whatever other names they are using) will just keep lying to you and making up excuses. Eventually they will quit taking your calls. You need to file criminal theft and fraud charges with the state attorney general, their local PD and your local PD. Laura will then tell you they are filing bankruptcy. She's been using that excuse for about 10 years now and they have never followed through with it. It's just another ploy to get you to give up. Don't. You have to be persistent and out them and law enforcement to get something done. I got my engine back and a full refund, but it literally took the police department going to them with an arrest warrant. They were given a choice: return my engine and issue a full refund or arrest. They chose option 1, but even then, the police department had to follow up with them.
I had to get police and FBI involved so we'll see if I get my 4500.00 back
Did you get any resolution from that engine company they stole $13, 000 from me
appears to be a complete scam and ripoff
I ordered a rebuilt engine from these clowns on June 2, 2015. Should have know something was amiss when they wanted a wire-transfer of all fees up-front. Was told to expect about 30 days for delivery and after 4 months of getting nothing but excuses, I demanded a refund and now am not getting that. With them, it's one excuse after another. They won't even give an address where they actually are. Found dozens and dozens of others who have complained about this "company", but to me, it doesn't even look like a company. looks more like a traveling band of thieves who hide behind false area codes and non-traceable phone numbers, P.O. boxes and remailling services. Someone needs to shut these people down!
paid fro product, was never shipped
The Engine Center will take your money and promise an engine, that never gets delivered.
I paid $3467.50 via bank to bank transfer on June 8, 2015 for a 1988 3.0L HO Mercruiser engine including an extended warranty, an oil pan and all shipping costs. As per Dean this would be finished in approx. 30 days from payment. A month goes by I email Laura in customer service, 4 days later she responds the engine will be ready for shipment the following week, they're waiting for the cam shaft. 10 days (7/16) go by I hear nothing I email again, she says she'll need to speak to the shop. 5 more days go by, hearing nothing I email again. At this point Laura says they're still waiting for the cam. 7 more days go by (7/28), no word from them, I email again. Laura says they've given up on the first cam and had to order another. I am getting really concerned now, things are not adding up. I request a full refund. Laura says they will not cancel or refund my engine, that it's on schedule to ship in 5-7 days. So 8 more days go by (8/3), Laura says the cam is expected in 10 days. After the 10 days go by I need to contact again (8/12), she then claims the cam shipped from California the day before and it's expected by early the following week. 8/20 and no word on the motor, I email Laura again she says they're hoping the cam is in a huge parts order. Forget trying to reach them by phone, they very rarely will even answer or return a call. 8/24 Laura says the engine is on schedule to ship between 8/27-31. I heard nothing from them in that time frame, I request a full refund again on 9/2, also informing Laura of my plan to take this matter to the Attorney General in their state. Laura again says she will not refund or cancel my order and again claims they'll have the motor ready for shipment in less than 10 days. I can not allow this to keep going on same old story, I filed a complaint against this business on 9/3 with the state attorney general in Indiana. On 9/14, 11 days later, I email Laura again asking about shipment of the engine. She was highly upset I filed the complaint claiming I am well aware the motor is in progress. I have absolutely no indication or proof that production has even started. This has been going on for too long, 30 days turned into 114 as of today! What a nightmare, unfortunately I did not find the dozens of complaints against these people until it was too late. I do not understand how these people can even still be in business.
paid for engine and no delivery
June 3, 2015, placed order for 235 long block engine for 53 Chevy truck rebuild. Quote 30 day delivery. July 3, called and was given 14-17 days, August 6, called said they were swamped and it would be 2 wks, called to cancell my order and they claim it's a custom order and will not refund my money. They refuse to provide an address of their manufacturing facility and I highly doubt they have one based on all the people that have filed claims. These people are running a fraudulent business and should be shut down.
Did you ever receive your engine or your refund?
product non-delivery
We ordered and paid in full for two marine turnkey engines on 9/7/13 with a delivery of 30 days. It is now 90 days later and we still cannot get a firm shipping date. When we can get in touch with Laura in Customer Service, she has told us on six different occasions that it will be 1-1 1/2 weeks out using different excuses every time. After we accused them of not being a legitimate business and demanded a refund, she went off in an email about believing what we read on the internet, including a review of our business and the boat yard we want the engines delivered to as well as links to their Engine Return Policy. Not surprisingly, she remains unwilling to provide any proof of the engines actually being produced or a firm shipping date, as we have continually requested. We have already contacted the Better Business Bureaus in Indiana and Nevada for The Engine Center and Remanufactured.com, respectively and will also register complaints with the Indiana and Nevada Attorney Generals.

This company provided a very poorly built engine after being sent in a proper core, also out right refused to return my core deposit of $300.00 after receiving the core back in February of 2012, and it's currently July 2012
Send $2, 285.00 for a rebuilt Cadillac engine. I was first told 1 week over the phone & than was emailed 3 week lead time. It has now been 8 weeks & I have nothing but different stories & excuses.
paid (only half thank god) received no engine, excuses, always waiting for parts
I ordered a Mercruiser 3.0 HO engine from The Engine Center in Early April 2013. After speaking with Dean I felt very comfortable and he said I only needed to put half down and the other half in THREE weeks when the engine would be ready to ship. They have been telling me constantly that they are waiting for parts or that there is some other kind of delay. I could never get a returned phone call, but could usually get a returned email within a few days. I thought this was odd but it made me feel re-assured when I would get an email. In August 2013 I received and email stating that they finally got my custom camshaft in and my engine would ship on a certain date in August exactly one week later, but I needed to send a payment to them before they shipped it. They even asked me what color I wanted the engine. I did not reply to the email, in the hopes of receiving a phone call. I finally responded to the email 2 weeks later with one word. Black. I wanted my engine black. I received no response. After waiting two more weeks of my response to the email I fianlly called from a different phone number and was able to get an answer! Wow. They said well let me go look in the shop. YEP! she (Laura) said. Your engine is on the stand. It can't be more than a week, Week and a half before it is ready to ship out. 4 weeks later have not heard or received any correspondence from them.
misrepresentation, fraud, shoddy worksmanship
Ordered a rebuilt Mercedes engine after being told that all moving parts will replaced with new parts. Paid almost $6000. After more than a month of silence, they claimed waiting for parts. Another month passed and after threat of order cancellation the engine was shipped within a few days. However, the engine arrived using parts that are obviously pretty worn out, the gears for the double chain are not usable and the chains looked used. I won't know that if my mechanic just installed it. However my mechanic called and asked me to be in his shop. He pointed out all the visible and obvious defects and shoddy workmanship and worn out parts that he won't install it and insisted that it be returned. If he installs it, he's liable to some extend an implied warranty. He had no confidence that the engine will last even three months. The subsequent dealing with this fraudster was pretty predictable. No return, no rework, no refund. I found this company through Google and the way Google search works is that whichever company bids the highest for ad gets to show up first and complaints of any kind are listed way down that they are almost invisible. You have to search and specifically search with the word "complaints" or else they won't even show up.
This is a dishonest company doing business and a scammer. Anytime a business won't take credit card and want payment up front 100% is a scammer and fraudster living customer with no recourse should things go wrong. All it has to do is do the job right and deliver what it promised with acceptable parts and make every customer a happy one for repeat business. I grew up loving the people in the Midwest, met alot and did lots of business with them even though I don't live there. But this company and the people in it are out to make a buck without regard to the quality of their products or services. Every unMidwestern like.
I'm surprised this company is still out there cheating customers, using various other business names and alias, such as The Engine Center, with many different addresses, incorporated in Nevada or elsewhere, and even has a deceptive phone number with area code 415 which is San Francisco.
So I'm stuck with this unusable engine, out of $6000 and hearing these guys laughing on their way to the bank with my money still there... What a fool am I!
For all of us victims, we should band together and do something about them and get our money back and get them out of business.

never shipped engine
I ordered a 1993 6.5 Turbo Diesel L65 Truck longblk vin F w/Ho from remanufactured.com, the Engine Center on January 30th. The company said that they had the engine and would ship the engine to me with in 7-10 business days as soon as they received a copy of the check I was paying with. That same day, Jan. 30th, 2012 I sent a faxed copy of my check and wa...

I ordered a 1987 454 mercruiser turnkey motor from remanufactured.com for $5490. When it was delivered it had automotive parts on it and they were not usable on a marine engine as well as the wrong exhaust system Remanufactured.com was fully aware that this was going into a 1987 SeaRay Cabin Cruiser to replace the 454 mercruiser that was damaged. When the engine was installed and taken out for a test drive, a leak in the oil pan was discovered, the leak is 100 drips per min. Needless to say the engine needs to be removed and gaskets replaced. We are worried that this engine was made for a car and that the rocker arms in the engine will be for a automotive engine, not a marine engine. The cost to pull the engine and repair are over $1600. We have sent a video showing the oil leak, pictures of the automotive parts, many emails and phone calls and to date we have not received an acceptable response. We are looking for remanufactured.com to reimburse us for the automotive parts that were not usable, the unusable exhaust system and the cost to repair the engine.

defective engine, no warranty, no refund
On August 27, 2007, I purchased a remanufactured engine for a 1984 Cadillac Seville from Remanufactured.com. I also purchased a 3 year 36, 000 parts and labor warranty on the engine. The cost of the engine, the warranty, core charge and shipping totaled $2375.00 It arrive almost 2 months later, after several delays. While restoring the car, my mechanic took his time, ordering new parts when possible from GM. This process continued throughout 2008. In early 2009, I started driving the vehicle short trips to break in the new engine. After only twenty-five (25) miles, the engine developed a knocking sound. I hired a second mechanic to check on the problem. One of the steel sleeves had slipped loose and a rod and bearing had broken. Basically, the engine failed. In addition to the failed engine, I never received a refund of the core charge of $300 for the old engine that I returned to remanufactured.com on 3/31/09, and they received on 4/6/09. I have made numerous attempts to contact the company by email and telephone, with no response and no satisfaction. I am now requesting a refund of my original purchase price of $2375.00, at which time, I will return the engine purchased from Remanufactured.com

They are still at it. Got me for $2, 400 and my long block. Now operating as Engines LLC. Dean is the steaming pile of excrement I dealt with. I even went to Gary, IN to try to pick up my motor. Shipping address is a vacant building and the mailing address is a UPS Store drop box.
My dealings with them have been similar. I shipped my engine to be rebuilt along with full payment on the promise that it would take a few weeks at the most. A few weeks turned into almost 6 months with the same excuses everyone else has been getting. It's almost as if this Laura person has some sort of standard scripted email she sends out at the proper time interval.
I finally got fed up, started researching and found (to my utter dismay) that this has been going on for years. I asked to conceal my order, have my engine shipped and and my money be refunded. At first I was told that wasn't an option. That got quickly turned around when I filed criminal charges with my local PD, the Gary PD, and the Indiana State Attorney General's office. My engine arrived yesterday and I have been told a refund check will be issued "in approximately 15 business days". Why it takes 15 business days to get a casheiers check will forever remain a mystery I suppose but they have 3 law enforcement agencies breathing down their necks right now. Laura has a bit of an attitude as if I was making an unreasonable request but 6 months of excuses is more than a reasonable amount of time and from what I have rad about these people I did not want them doing the rebuild. Aside from the lame excuses, it appears they perform shoddy work - if/when they actually produce a finished product.
So I will now have to wait 10 morebusiness days but law enforcement has assured me after that they will go after them full force. These people know how to play the game. They know they can take people's money, not deliver what was agreed and worse case, they have to issue a refund. As for the rest who give up, well they are well ahead of the game.
If you are reading this and find yourself in a similar situation, don't keep letting them stall. File charges. Accept nothing less than a full refund and a return of your engine/core if you sent one. It's the only thing that singing to get you any results. Ryan, thanks so much for all, your help in this!
Laura, Dean, and Davd - if you are reading this you know I meant what I said I was going to do.
I filed complaints as mentioned above and notified Laura from The Engine Center. She said at first refused to provide a refund then suddenly changed her mind and said in 14-21 days I would get a full refund as of August 14th. I noticed they have already changed the website for remanufactured.com so as to keep attracting more people to scam. I've yet to be able to locate any legitimate manufacturing location for this so called business.
scam
They offer remanufactures engines and engines parts but they are actually shipping used non remanufactured parts, I bought a set of heads for my boat thru their website advertisement and close the deal thru the phone with a customer service for the amount of $1544.00. I was told that for that price the item is new not remanufactured. After receiving the part it was use but I made no complain about it as long it work it was fine for me taking in consideration that I'm in Florida and they are in Indiana (1346 Miles). As soon as my mechanic install and start the engine we start to see problem with the heads having to disassemble half of the engine and inspect the heads and realize the scam. It’s used non rebuildable heads. Now their customer service are not allow to discuss the issue they just want to to send and email and wait for their answer.

improper engine overhaul
I ordered 2 remanufactured 500 cadillac engines $4935.00 in April of 2008. They sent older models than I ordered, they where not fully assembled, missing parts and some of the parts they did use where unserviceable or partially cleaned. I tried to call them, no response yet. The company who actually did the remanufacture? was Blaines Motor Supply Co. in Dallas Tx. I called them [protected] and received a bunch of BS about the problems I'm experiencing. I've been a licensed mechanic for 25 yrs. and order 4 of these engines per year. I've never even seen an overhaul this bad and to call it a remanufacture is a joke.
They screwed alot people. I am going to posting website to collect the complaints. I want put both Dean and John (mechenic) both in Jail. They will not get away this. I am going to shut down their business by June of 2009. I have the money connection to bring these boozo's down to thier Knees. THEY WILL PAY DEARLY!

no delivery
I ordered and paid for an engine on December 18, 2007 from remanufactured.com. I was told it would ship in 21-30 days. Almost half a year later, (todays date is May 28th 2008!), I have not recieved my engine. I rarely get return phone calls or return emails. When I do, I get excuses and inconsistent information and promises of near delivery. If ever I receive my engine, I have no hope that I will be able to enforce the 1 year promised warranty as they are unreachable. My next step is to call the police, Better Business Bureau and an attorney to seek treble damages for deceptive trade practices. Any help or information anyone can give me on this company is greatly appreciated.

no money/no engine
Boy, I wish I had found this website before I shipped my motor. Sent my motor and the money. Now, after four months I still have no motor and no money, even though they said it would be about three weeks turnaround. Can't talk to a live person anymore, and can't get a response.
I still like to do business the old fashioned way, but this has really been an experience. No point in chasing because it's too far away.

This Laura person called today to advise that they are closing the business and filing bankruptcy. Probably just another lie, but wanted to let folks know.

It's the only thing that's going to get you any results. Ryan, thanks so much for all, your help in this!
Laura, Dean, and Davd - if you are reading this you know I meant what I said I was going to do.
"Dean Winters" is just the latest name David Schaffner is using, I'm that "civil suit against him about five years ago." Took him to trial December 2015, won a 9K judgement. He can be served now because he's hired an Attorney to represent him. My Attorney is Lee Gunter in Joliet, Illinois. [protected] Look, folks can file all the complaints they want but this guy stays just outside the criminal arena by shipping you something; then he just argues with you about it's serviceability. Note he won't accept payment through the USPS because they would come after him for mail fraud. He's not dumb, he's dishonest. He also doesn't take phone calls or rip people off from any closer than six about states away.
On your instruments of payment to him will be the account number and bank name it was deposited into and I need this information. Contact my Attorney; LeAnn answers the phone and tell her you have bank information on David Schaffner; Dba, Remanfactured.com, Dba. AA Rebuild. She'll take the information, I'll give you a % of what is recovered. I know you read this things David, I'll never stop and I'm getting closer every day.
Odd that Dean Winter is spilling the beans on the company that he works for? I ordered a long block 235 and talked to Dean Winter who had enough knowledge to convince me to place an order with remanufactured on June 3, 2015 and like all the others have no engine and they refused to give me a refund. So, two years later Dean Winter is still working for this fraudulent company and convincing people to place their orders with them?
I've filed complaints with Indiana state district attorney, same in Nevada, FBI internet crime and multiple other websites. In addition I'm adding Dean Winters name to all of them as an accessory.
David Schaffner is the owner of remanufactured.com. It is located in Gary Indiana. 3817 Garfield, IN 46408. He used to have a PO Box in Bloomingdale, but he has closed this. Report him to the attorney general's office immediately. He had a civil suit against him about five years ago, but managed to escape from it. There are several complaints that exist now, but they are sending the complaints to an address in Roselle which has nothing to do with his business. Please instruct the attorney generals office when making your complaint. Godd luck to all of you that have been by subjected to his dishonesty and theft.
