Not following thru on fraud case
I called about for rent House on posted on Rent.com. After contacting the Owner and we came to terms. I deposited the deposit and sent the balance by online money service to 2 different people because his wife was having a baby. After almost a month passed I didn't feel comfortable with what was going on. I asked him for a refund which he said he would do but I never received anything. I called him but his phone was not in service and he never replied to my emails.
I am trying to file a police report for Fraud against the so called owner of this property to get my refund. Hope this doesn't happen to other people who want to rent a house or apartment.
Desired outcome: I feel that Rent.com is responsible and liable for not assisting in any way to resolve this issue in getting my refund. They need to screen the owners to make sure that are liable if things go wrong or they for a refund.
scam
Rent.com allowed someone to post my rental for $950 in Battle Ground and telling people they are the owners and no longer working with the Property Management which is false, the home rented by me for $1875 and I know the owners. I tried to file a complaint, heard from no one. So this address 9707 NE 199th St in Battle Ground WA is a complete scam, we have it rented and there is a sign in the yard with my name and number. Please take it off your site!
Reward promised
I moved into The fountains in December 2014. I kept getting the same story every month that they were waiting to hear back from my landlord. My landlord said no one has ever contacted her. I sent rent.com a copy of an email showing my boyfriend the rent.com site with these apartments. Now they have a new property manager onsite. I sent rent.com an email today saying it's been 8 months and I still haven't received a reward card. They email me back saying it was because my property manager Ann said it came from a different source. I didn't have a manager named Ann. They must have sent information to someone else. This is the same old game. I know I used Rent.com.

No Support Provided
rent.com is a total rip-off. I paid for an ad to list my rental property. The ad listing posted on rent.com did not have a photograph and the contact phone number was not correct. I sent five emails to their support and never received a reply. I tried to call their number which is supposed to be in service from 9 AM to 6 PM EST. It was 3 PM EST and the message stated to call back when they are open 9AM to 6 PM. I tried to send a message thru their online email message service and received an undeliverable message. I paid for an ad that is totally useless and cannot get rent.com to correct it and cannot even get them to respond to me. I am notifying my credit card company to stop payment as they did not provide the service I paid for. Stay away from this company. I had much better success with the free websites that list rental properties.
scam
I moved into my apartment complex in December 2014 and immediately reported my lease to rent.com After a month of not receiving a response via email I decided to call in, the rep said it takes 8-10 weeks until the process is complete and the $100 Reward card is shipped out. Well...its almost June now, so that's 16 weeks so far, called in again today and was given the same run around, its not worth it but I hate being lied to. Just a heads up, don't be fooled
The $100 reward is a scam, dont go there. You can do just as good in fact you can find the same apartments as they do. Go on the internet and find your new home, dont give rent.com the time of day.
Did not disclose which is eligible
Rent.com promotes that if you find your apartment and signed a lease with that apartment on their website, they will give you $100 Reward Card. The term and condition never said you must look for a special symbol to be eligible, and confirm with a representative today that there is no indication on the website to tell which are eligible. The apartment I leased has falling off of their promotion since 2003! Why on earth would Rent.com not disclosed that this is eligible, this is not. How hard is it to inform customers. We are relying on you for information, and you've given us incorrect/false information! It's a great place to find apartments, but their common sense or moral is in the sewer! ***DO NOT RECCOMMEND THIS WEBSITE***
100.00 visa gift card
Submitted all my infor in February for the 100.00 visa card and still have not recieved it. And now when i go to see the status of of where my gift card is i get a "whoops this page cannot be found" everything went through and was accepted but now i cant even see what is going on and i havent recieved any update emails. Im not really pressed but it never reached us and.now the page to see any updates is gone now too. I used rent.com as the referral service on my.lease.contract as was stipul a ted.for the goft.card. given the fact i used.rent.com to find my new place.
100 Dollar Reward Card
I used rent.com to find my apartment. Shortly after I requested the 100 dollar rewards card they so loudly advertise. On April 23rd I received an email saying they've mailed it and it will take 10 business days. It's now May 14th and have yet to see it. Monday I started emailing their customer service. 3 emails. Not one response. Today I called. I spoke to Karma or Carmen someone by that name and she was extremely rude. She told me that the email is wrong and it wasn't processed until the 11th so it will be another 10 business days. I told her their website and email is misleading and they should be reported. She quickly says "go for it I'm sure plenty of people have." The website lies. They don't reply back to any customer emails and their employees are rude. I'm starting to think this is a scam.
It gets better... they've deleted my account.
False Advertising
I have carefully read a number of postings, every single one is true. I have tried to encourage the company to honor their advertising claim (reward card) for 3 months with no success. Today (5/7/15), I spoke with another Rent.com representative who stated that the program or advertising claim will end this month. She went on to say that she understands the array of complaints and that she is glad the advertisement is finally being pulled.
My advise to new subscribers is to heed the warnings of fellow posters. You will be much happier with the results--do business with trustworthy companies like Rentmoney.com or Hotpad.com.
Respectfully,
Dee2015
Rewards card never received
Lease [protected]
I had moved to apartment in july after using rent.com... i initiated the reward process.. My apartment office already send reply to rent.com.. I am being following up for the reward card.. each time I raise a complaint i receive a email from rent.com
Good news your reward card will be reissued to your updated address next week. We suggest that you allow 10 to 12 business days for the delivery of your card, it is a third party that mails the cards so we don't have direct control of when the cards go out.

But nothing comes.. its almost 7-8 months now
$100 REWARD
These people are a bunch of C*R*O*O*K*S. I moved into my apartment on 21 January. I immediately notified them. I got an email to say that they would take 8-10 weeks to send my $100 reward. They confirm on their website in my account that they have confirmed my lease. When I queried why 8 -10 weeks, they said I had to live at the apartment for a month. I am now going onto my second month, have paid my rent and their website, updated today 10 March 2011 tells me that they will take another 8-10 weeks to send me my $100 reward. A damn bunch of crooks. Keep away from them! They are scamsters. You will see the list of complaints here are growing all the time. I have a good mind to go and open a complaint at my local police station as they are fraudulent.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I moved in on Dec. 18th. It shows my staus of lease still being verified. I emailed my landlord. She said she hasn't heard from Rent.com but heard my boyfriend say I found it on hotpads.com when she was giving us the tour, so thats what she put on some card. I told her The Fountains is not even on hotpads. She said there is nothing she can do once it's put on the card. I said that wasn't fair since I was the one moving in and not my boyfriend. She said since he was a co-signer she could use what he says.
This is ridiculous. He doesn't know. He just said he took a guess. This is the email I sent him before we looked at the place...

They made me seem like i went crazyyy, and i still think i am going crazy... I logged on to my account, and through the years of being a renter, i dont know if i opened another account other than the one i had, or any of them deleted because of i dont trust them.
I used to log on to my account and it said Staus, Verifying with Apartment... and it will take 4-6 weeks. That was all great. But this was a few weeks ago, now there is NO status of any claim.
My e-mail is Syedafbukhari@yahoo.com
and the property is Bear Creek in Dallas 15935 Bent Tree Forest Cir
I leased it August 1st 2009-
All i want to make sure is, why my claim has disappeared mysteriously.
?
I will call the customer service #, but hope to get a response here soon as well.
While living in AZ, I found my apartment in WA through Rent.com. My father lived in WA and checked out the apartment to give an okay (since I was out of state and couldn't see it for myself) and told the rental agent that I had found the complex through rent.com (I am pleased with the apartment). However, Rent.com promised a $100 reward Visa upon confirmation of rental agreement. Since I lived out of state, the corporation running the apartment complex had me complete an online application for a credit check, etc. and there was no "box" for Rent.com, so I checked the "internet" box. I signed my lease in WA upon arrival and promptly moved in and reported my lease number to Rent.com. They said I would receive my reward within 4-6 weeks. However, I have since been denied because I "found" the property through the internet (isn't that what Rent.com is?) and therefore will not be receiving what is due me. Rent.com is a scam. Don't use it!
I signed my lease, moved in on August 24, 2012 and reported it to rent.com. Six months later I am still waiting for my lease to be verified. My complex, McKinney Park, says they have done their paperwork yet I still wait. I have used Rent.com before and know it is not a scam, just very frustrating.
Cordially,
C. Parker

reward card
Make sure if you do get your rent.com reward that you use it right away. I activated my card in October and did not realize it had an expiration date of less than 3 months later and set it aside. I went to use it a few days into January and it was expired. With the visa logo and it being a reward/gift card, it is decieving because I have never had anything other than a coupon expire that soon. It seems like a scam to get less people to redeem their reward. I was nervous to use the card for anything under the $100 because when you look at their policies, it looks like they can charge fees for everything. I called them about reissuing the card because I never used it once. They say there is nothing they can do. I am pretty sure there is always something a company can do if they care to do it. It is very disappointing that they give you such a short time period to use or lose the funds.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Why are you all complaining? It's something EXTRA. You found a place to live. These people don't REALLY owe you anything. Who really gets money for finding an apartment.
If you look at the FAQs on the site, it clearly says the card has an expiration date. It also tells you the process of confirming the lease and issuing the card. It seems that if you were so active about calling them to get the card, you would have used it when you received it instead of letting it sit. Who does that with free money?
All you have to do is READ!
3 times I've emailed them about the rewards card never showing up. I'm on the 3rd e-mail from them stating that they re-issued the card and that it will arrive in 7 - 10 business days. Mail does not take 7 - 10 business days. Anyway, I'm on day 9 and still (3rd time) have not received the card. Our lease was signed in May and it is now October! I would guess that they clearly have made it past the 3 month card use of which if it ever does arrive, it will have expired. This is a total scam and I agree they should not be allowed to advertise this deal when they never comply with it. SCAMMERS are rent.com
I'm so very annoyed with rent.com! Seems to me this $100 reward is a complete gimmick! Rent.com says
that they mailed it out twice already. Each time I've waited the expected 10-12 business days. It never arrived! I contacted rent.com for the third time now 2 days ago. With no answer as to what is going on. Extremely annoyed
I called up [protected]. Chose the option to report missing/stolen card and then told the customer service representative that I need a new card. I was told that they can send a new card from the bank with $25 charge for replacement . So i will get a new debit card with $75 credit and expiration date as 3 months later. Its better to lose $25 than a whole $100. I need to remember to encash the money asap when the get the replacement card
I sign a lot of leases because I frequently move around, so I thought I would try this Rent.com reward $100 Visa card deal. I’ve experienced this same odd issue that seems unreasonable, at the very least. By the time you get the card, it’s basically expired. I’ve never heard of a Visa card that expires in such a short time, almost too short to use it!
In my case, this was no fault of my own, and I had planned on saving it to use it a month or two later. After all, who expects a Visa card to expire within 1-3 months of getting it? Who knew? They don’t tell you up front. Unknowingly, when I went to use it, about two months later (because I like to save money), it had already expired. The card had the entire balance on it/was never used. I’ve contacted the company to see if they are willing to resolve this. I feel this was no fault of my own and misleading. I’m confident they will do the right thing, though. –Ben, CEO of Emera Media, Inc.
What kind of company only gives you 3 months to use a rewards card for using their service? It wasn't until I was in the checkout line at a major retailer that we discovered our card expired October 31, 2013. We even made purchases we normally wouldn't because of the $100 rewards card. Note to self: Check expiration dates...
Yeah, I got scammed too! The rules say you have 120 days to contact them about the card, which I did in that time frame. However, my apartment discontinued services with them over 30 days (how am I supposed to know that?) and apparently rent.com says that it's too late to receive the card. They were still listed on my lease and received their cut but have found a way to keep renters from receiving the reward.
I recieved my rewards card. With all the hussle and bussle of moving and setting up by the time I went to activate my card it had expired. Was told there is nothing they can do about that. WHAT A SCAM! I used renters.com to find my place. I would imagine they got something for that. I am not allowed to use what they offer. BS BS BS
We signed a lease June 1st, and have yet to get a reward card to use! I have contacted Rent.com 18 times now. They kept giving us the runaround saying they had to verify our lease. I sent them a copy of our lease, signed and dated months ago. Then a couple weeks ago - first part of Aug., after contacting them again and again, they said they did finally get verification from the apartment management that we did sign our lease. They said they mailed the card on the 8th of August but it would take 10-12 business days to receive. We never received it. Last week, I contacted them again, and was told the card was mailed on 8/8. I contacted them again on the 12th business day and was told they would cancel the card and another would be mailed to us. Last night, we received the original card, but of course, it was deactivated. Guess what? They mailed it this past Thursday, only two business days. They deactivated it one day after mailing it. They clearly had no intention of ever paying the $100 out. We think this is a scam. It was sent from zip code 60515, Downer's Grove IL. The company HQ is in California, so there clearly is a disconnect there. Just wanted to warn you about expecting a reward card from this company.
This reward program is very much real. You do however have to stay on top of them to get your card. I also signed a lease 3 months ago but no reward call. It took two follow up emails to rent.com, but I just got an email stating my card is on the way. The first email said they are requesting information from my landlord to give them a week and check back. After a week I emailed again and the card is apparently on it's way. I would guess they do this for everycard on the assumption that a certain percentage of people will never claim them if they have to do a little bit of work (sending two emails!) on their own.

Management
I lived in one of the units in ROBERT TREAT APARTMENT, MILFORD, CT last year. Their repair service is terrible. whenever the water is leaking or toilet is clogged, it will take them 4 days to fix it. There are roaches in my and all our neighbor's units as far as I know. Swimming pool water is always dirty so it was closed most of the time...

$100 reward "missing"
After being promised $100 from rent.com for signing a lease with my apartment community, Archstone, it's been 4 months and I haven't seen it. They claim they mailed it but strangely enough, it never arrived. Also, they emailed me today (after several emails from me to them) that the card expires today so I should call immediately. Then they gave me a fax number instead of a phone number.
No apologies, horrible customer service, a complete scam.

I MOVED IN 2012 and within a few months I got a $100 visa gift card with rent.com on the top of the card. Great company great service
So I moved into an apartment on Rent.com. I chose that because it offered a $100.00 reward card. I figured that will pay for the rental truck. Moved in December 2014. I told Rent.com. They said they would send something to my landlord to verify me. 2 months later my landlord still never received anything. They said have her call. She said she called but was told she needed to send something in an email. It's a big loop. I emailed rent.com so many times. This is their response, " Unfortunately we haven't received a conformation that Rent.om is your sole referral source. You can have your property contact us at 866.399.7368. Once we receive confirmation, we can issue your $100.00 reward card. " What a scam.
I am getting even more worried now after reading these posts! I moved in my apartment 12/14. I looked on the rent.com website and it states the card was sent on 1/30/15 and allow up to 10 business days to receive it, so I've been expecting it tomorrow (Friday). Yesterday I get an email that it was just sent out and to expect in in 10-12 business days. When I contacted customer service about this they replied that the email said it was processed on 1/30/15. Uh, no. First of all it was on their website, not my email and the words "sent" and "processed" are not the same thing. I have replied to their email so I am eager to see what they say. Sure seems like I should be getting something delivered overnight if they are going to keep true to what they say!
I moved in Oct. 3rd 2014 called about card they stated you will receive it 30 days after move in date. Its been now been 90 days since move in date. I guess I am one of them that will never see that reward coming. I will use renters guide next time.
I used rent.com to find my apartment. Filed everything and waited for my $100 gift card. I got a confirmation email on 10/07 stating the card would be mailed to my address (sent it t my sisters address since my mailbox at the new apartment is kind of odd and I didn't want to lose my gift card). Waited a few weeks for it to come in thinking it was delayed. It never shows up, so I email rent.com asking about it, and they say it was sent to a completely different address, my leasing office surprisingly. I call them and say it was not mailed to me, or the correct address on 11/12. They tell me it shipped on 10/10, AFTER receiving my correct confirmation email to the address I provided, it still went to the leasing office somehow. I call rent.com support and they basically tell me I'm a liar and
that I just changed my address to the correct one after emailing them. If that was the case then why did I get a confirmation email 3 days before the card shipped to the correct address I provided. I tell them I did not spend the card and all they basically told me was to file a police report. I go to file one online and receive an email saying I have to go file the report in person. A customer should not have to hassle this much when it was rent.com's fault for mailing my gift card to the leasing office. Complete scam, I will not use rent.com or recommend it after this kind of hassle. Especially after I got a confirmation email from them to the right address for them to tell me, I logged on and changed it after talking to them. You guys don't even know your own systems. I will post further complaints if this matter does not get handled by rent.com.
My email is Abulifa2@gmail.com and my name is Amir Bulifa if rent.com wants fix their mistake.
i actually just got the process finished. they didnt give me the run around. a few employees were not knowledgeable of the process which sucks because i had to call multiple times but once i talked to the right person it was easy as pie. my lease has been verified and i am now waiting the arrival of my card. the lady said about 10-12 business days so within the next two weeks i should be receiving my reward.. crossing my fingers because so many ppl on here are not satisfied. good luck everyone ill keep u updated

My $100 card was never received and they say that it was activated. I am the only one who reads my personal email address that was provided for the access code. I waited 2 months for nothing. What a scam!
I just hope that I don't have any problems when I get ready to submit my claim.
It's always something!
Stole deopsit
I sent rent.com $850 as a deposit on an apartment in Fenway. They told me once payment was received I would be able to look at the apartment and then the contract would be sent and I could finalize the details. After sending the $850 they told me I needed to send the next 5 months rent upfront or the contract was void! Ironically I had yet to see the contract nor the property so I had no intention to send more money upfront. I asked for my money back and have never heard from them again! What a scam! Never use them!

You got scammed. It was not rent.com but someone pretending to be from rent.com

$100 Check From Rent.com a GIMMICK
Hello All,
Rent.com promises people with $100 reward when they report a lease for a property they saw on rent.com. They claim that they will send out the check to you within 8-10 weeks of lease reported to them, But this is not the case! Infact on their website, they claim that the 8-10 weeks is the time they take to confirm the lease with rental office and to send out a check to you.
I reported the lease and it is now close to 12 weeks and after repeated complaints with their customer service, they claim that my rental office did not confirm the least yet with them, and they cannot send me the check. The funniest part is, this guy gave me the responsibility to urge my property manager to confirm the least with rent.com as soon as possible, to enable rent.com to send me the check! So that means, if my rental office does not confirm the lease for a year with rent.com, I wouldn't still get a check!
I am thinking that this is just a gimmick to attract people and make use of their system, so they can make big business through advertisements etc. Note: One of the rental office told me that they pay $400 to rent.com, for every lease referred through rent.com. So we get only a portion of what they get and they are really not paying anything out of their pocket!
So I would recommend everyone to NOT use rent.com because they would at end of the day wait in anticipation of the check and be disappointed!
I am going to wait for another 2 weeks (3 1/2 months) and then if I still don't get the check, I will report them to BBB, to avoid other people to not fall in to such traps!
Receipt of money taken out of my account. But my rent wasnt paid. March and April of 2019. I would like my money refunded back to my card for these months.
The $100 reward card is a total scam. We signed a lease over 4 months ago, citing rent.com as our referral source. After being in the apartment for nearly two months, I called customer service to check the status of our card.
I called several times over the next month and was told they were "confirming our lease with management". I was standing right next to our property manager when she signed and sent them a confirmation fax that we used rent.com as a referral source.
I called and I was told that the property manager did not confirm I used rent.com as my source. I was standing right there. I had the property manager call them, this still did not resolve the issue. I asked who they spoke with, since I was standing right there during the call and fax, and they would not give me a clear answer.
I believe this is nothing more than a marketing scam and would discourage anyone from using this company in the future. Horrible experience.
I just wanted to say that in 2003 I rented an apt in Federal Way Washington, and I looked at the apt on Rent.com, but since they were around the corner from my previous apts I really didn't need rent.com to decide on whether I would rent or not.
I moved into the townhome and I would say a check came weeks after I moved in. I truly wasn't expecting it at all. I am assuming the complex knew I checked them out on rent.com and informed them that I had in fact rented there.
It really works but I guess it really is the apts responsibility to let rent.com know.
I'm in the same boat. I reported my lease in March and still have heard nothing back. It just keeps saying that it is in-process. I wont be using rent.com again. I will tell landlords that I refuse to use it because of the service and delays
I work in the apartment industry, and I know how rent.com and other similar referral sites work.
rent.com pays based on the response from the rental office. not IF they respond, but HOW they respond...and their response is DIRECTLY related to what you put on your application where it asks you "How did you hear about this property?"
if you did not answer that question, or put something OTHER THAN rent.com on it, the property won't pay rent.com, and therefore YOU don't get paid. I have had new residents come up to me and ask about our response to your rent.com request, and I have had to tell them they will not be getting paid because they put another website on their application.
The properties that advertise on rent.com do NOT pay listing fees to place their ads, they only pay for leases referred by rent.com. In turn, rent.com only pays the renter for move-ins that they get paid for. If you look at ads on rent.com, you will notice that most, if not all, have some kind of coupon that you are encouraged to print out; or at the very least it strongly urges you to be sure to tell the apartment complex that you 'saw it on rent.com'. They know they won't get paid, and rely on the renter to remember the right website when they are filling out their paperwork or talking to the leasing person at the apartment complex.
I used rent.com a few years ago and received a $100 gift card in the mail. I remember distinctly because I was so broke that $100 went towards electricity the month I received it!
I think some people may not receive itbecause of the verification your leasing office has to provide to the company. If they are not responsive or you do not send in a copy of your lease, then you won't receive it. I'm not sure if things have changed since then--but maybe that's the case.
