Breeding practice is questionable - proceed with caution!
I am writing this complaint because anyone thinking of purchasing a purebred Havanese in 2022 should read the complaints about Beth previously, before contacting this questionable Breeder
I have submitted one complaint against her and a positive review done within 5 months of purchase and before I found out about his genetic defect
At first upon purchase and bringing him home Beth was like my friend- texting answers to my questions, commenting on photos. My review was put on her Profile front page website for 2018 Christmas.
We shared family information and photos.
She seemed like a very friendly person
However when my dog was being neutered I had blood work taken and it was discovered that he had high liver enzymes. He had a liver biopsy as advised by the Specialists and was diagnosed after the surgery and tests, with Liver Dysplasia, a genetic disorder that can be passed by the parent
I contacted Beth and her texting became frenetic.Don't do this, don't listen to your vet or specialists.
Telling me that I caused his liver disease by doing blood work. She made no sense.
She wanted to fly down and take my puppy back to Quebec, which I really thought with her behaviour online, perhaps she'd dispose of him to preserve her credentials as a sound Breeder.
I became quite upset with her ranting and wanting to take him back
She said that I can't have my money back which I never requested
I wouldn't give him back even if she had offered money because he was part of our family not a transaction
I wrote to the Havanese Fanciers of which she was a member about the situation and her bad breeding practices, her breeding females 4-5 times within short periods.
They responded that it wasn't right and they would deal with her themselves
She received no consequences, she continued to breed, and continued to be a Fancier member
My complaint was useless
My only recourse is to warn others of her overbreeding her females, being a puppy mill business for sheer profit over the health of her dogs and litters
The Fanciers were no help as I thought they would take her off the list thereby keeping her from selling overbred puppies
Let me say it's extremely difficult to become a member. You have to know one of the members personally before being accepted on the voting board .
As for the owner of one of Dolly's second litter, you realize that my dog was her fifth litter.
Neither the AKA or British Kennel Club recommends any more than 2 litters and maximum 3
The Mother is spent and although healthy, her litters may be compromised by letting genetic defects in her line to come through to a pup
We paid $6000 for his care and surgery at 7 months
His liver Meds cost us $360 every 2 months
He's very sweet and beautiful and we do everything possible to keep him as healthy as can be
but of course we don't know if he will have a normal life time
I'm shocked that she is still breeding
When other breeders have one litter to sell every 6 months, Bethhas2 litters to sell every 3 months
There's plenty of good honest Breeders to get a lovely healthy purebred Havanese
I picked Beth in 2018 because we had a white Havanese for 15 yrs and after mourning her for 2 yrs I wanted a brown Havanese puppy
She was the only one at the time who had brown puppies and unfortunately I didn't look at her breeding history on her pages and count carefully and relate it to Dolly her mother
There are many good breeders on this list but you have to ask how many litters each mother has had
Britain does not allow any Purebred Breeders to breed the female more than 2 times for optimum health of the puppies and continued healthy lines
In USA the AKA recommends no more than 2 litters with 3 being the maximum
I would highly recommend that buying a purebred puppy from a female who's litter is her first or second
As per hubbydubby saying that the complainants name is Questionable, I just want to say that I only post with my own name not a phoney name to stack the deck against anyone.

Questionable Breeder
We just had an awful experience with a Havanese Breeder in Ontario called Rockhurst Havanese. Everything was going smoothly until our visit to the breeder to see our 6 week old puppy. We arrived with our two small children and were greeted by 16 dogs which was fine but I simply asked in a casual way "why do you have 16 dogs"?. Beth (the breeder and owner...

We have a dog from Dolly’s January 2018 litter. After a few days of being home he became sick. Turns out he had giardia. When I mentioned this to Beth she became very defensive and blamed me. She demanded I return the dog. I have to say, up until we got the dog, everything was great. She was very supportive and informative but once there was an issue she turned suddenly and became very rude. I still have the emails. It was very unfortunate. My dog was one of 9 dogs in the litter. He’s had many health issues as well. He can’t have any vaccines as he’s had major allergic reactions to everything. He’s super sensitive. We have had to add a Hollistic vet to our team to support our dog. Even with insurance it has cost us a small fortune.
It really is unfortunate that she resorted to such an angry approach. My vet said it’s very common for puppies to have Giardia. I wasn’t upset with that part at all but how I was treated by Beth was appalling sadly. Like you, I felt she was a friend, texting me regularly etc. In the end, I have an amazing dog that I love even though he’s sensitive and allergic to just about everything. Oh, he also has both front paws that turn out. Our vet said that’s a defect in the line but Beth said he must have done that jumping off from high places like a couch and blamed me. My vet firmly said, not at all, it’s a known defect in the breed and it should be noted. My vet also said that Dolly should have been retired after a littler of 9 puppies.
