My wife and I celebrated our 30th anniversary at Sandals Resort Royal Barbados. We chose it because of the enticing advertisements and was even mentioned as the epitome of elegance and luxury. So I was expecting spectacular and clean accommodations and the warmest
reception. However, we felt the opposite; the reception desk did not receive our arrival very well, and the vacation had highs and lows from there.
The front desk clerks were not friendly or warm throughout the stay. We waited in the lobby for almost an hour before they got us a butler to escort us to our room. The front desk receptionist could’ve directed the Butler Lounge to a nice, cool place, but instead, they put us in the front lobby for over an hour in the hot, humid lobby area, even though the front desk was not very busy, the whole hour we were waiting. Our stay in Millionaire’s Suite was not what we expected. The room was not cleaned, the carpet was stained, the floors were dull, and there were stains on the sofa. The partitions in the room were broken, and despite reporting it to management, the partitions were not fixed during our stay in the room. Restaurants- Even though I made reservations beforehand, we still waited over an hour before we could be seated. We were even booked at a restaurant that was closed. We had to wait for most restaurant reservations because they were overbooked.
The gym was filthy and unkempt. The floors were not cleaned. Nobody was there to sanitize the equipment. The gym needs to be refurbished. It’s outdated, old and unappealing. Also, we felt like most of the female staff we came in contact with were unwelcoming and unfriendly. It wasn’t a welcoming experience.
However, on a positive note! The resort is Beautiful! The Butler Service tried their best to make our stay a pleasant experience. Nonetheless, there was only so much they could do; we would rate the butler service 5 stars. I can’t even imagine what our stay would have been like without their support. Also, the food was good, and the service was adequate once we finally got in for our reservation.
Overall, the experience was not what was expected. The room and services were not proportionate to what we paid for this 30th-anniversary vacation. We have traveled to many beautiful resorts around the world, so we have several comparable vacation resorts to compare our experience at Sandals Resorts. The supposedly comfortable and carefree anniversary was filled with almost a nightmare experience.
Desired outcome: Sandals replied that they were taking measures on their side. Instead of that they should be able to give something in return to change the customer experience from unhappy to at least being compensated for the miserable experience.
