Mixed Experiences with San Diego County Credit Union
As someone who values personalized service, I was initially drawn to San Diego County Credit Union (SDCCU) for its community-oriented approach. However, my experience was mixed. While the institution offers competitive rates and a range of services, the customer service fell short of expectations. I encountered delays in processing, unresponsive representatives, and challenges with online services. Despite some positive aspects, the overall experience left much to be desired.
Horrible bank and services
I'm not sure who votes them #1. It's a joke. There customer skills are terrible.
They call themself credit union but yet there fees are like a bank. There call center are a joke and of course when they bring a manager into the call it's still a big joke.
How do you charge a customer when indeed I signed I do not want overdraft protection and then charge a fee. I find it as a fraud
Recommendation: They are the worse bank- do not bank with them- Go to a real bank
Don't lose your ATM/Debit card!!
What has happed to SDCCU? I've been a satisfied member here for over 20 years, but will now be moving my money to another (any other) financial institution.
I lost my ATM card on 7/4 so went into a branch office (Kearny Mesa) to get a new card. As of March 2023, all new cards must be MAILED via US snail mail with a 7-10 business day wait. AND, the day after the card arrives to my home I need to wait another day for a US mailed PIN code -- which CANNOT be changed. Is this really 2023?
I'll be taking my $100K elsewhere -- where they actually care about customer service.
-

- Robust mobile banking app
- Free financial education resources

Terrible Customer Service and Rude Management: My Experience with SDCCU
Wow, let me tell you about this "bank" called SDCCU. They claim to be number one, but I gotta say, that's a real laugh. Their customer service is just plain awful. Instead of actually hiring enough people to help you, they'd rather waste your time and make you wait for a painful one to two hours. Can you believe that? It's like they enjoy apologizing for their own incompetence.
And don't even get me started on the management. They're so rude, it's unbelievable. I mean, who closes at 4 pm these days? It's like they don't even care about their customers' needs. Oh, and be careful with their ATMs too. They have this annoying habit of keeping your card, so make sure you don't accidentally walk away without it. Talk about a nightmare!
All in all, I have to say, SDCCU is a really bad bank. They may claim to be the best, but trust me, they're far from it. Save yourself the trouble and find a better place to trust with your money.
Frustrating and Inefficient: A Review of SDCCU's Transfer Process and Customer Service
Sdccu, also known as San Diego County Credit Union, is quite a frustrating place to deal with. If you ever need to transfer funds, be prepared for a long and arduous process. It seems like the "money" you're trying to transfer magically disappears for days on end. And don't even bother trying to call them for assistance because all you'll hear is the never-ending ringing of the phone. It's as if they don't want to be bothered by their customers.
The only way to receive any sort of decent service is to physically go to one of their branches. However, if you're not lucky enough to live near a branch, then you're out of luck. It's quite inconvenient for those who don't have easy access to their locations.
Once you finally make it to one of their branches, be prepared for a lot of waiting and standing in line. The hierarchy within the organization is quite evident, and it feels like you have to jump through hoops just to get anything done. It's definitely not a smooth and efficient process.
What's even more frustrating is that their advertising claims they are the best. Well, let me tell you, they are far from it. In fact, they are the absolute worst of the worst. It's disappointing to see such false claims being made when the reality is so different.
Overall, if you're looking for a credit union that provides efficient and reliable service, I would strongly advise against choosing Sdccu. Save yourself the headache and find a better option elsewhere.
SDCCU's Lack of Customer Safety: Dogs Allowed in Branches Without Verification
San Diego County Credit Union (SDCCU) doesn't seem to prioritize customer safety. They seem to have a policy that allows any dog to enter their branches, regardless of whether they are legitimate ADA Service Dogs or just regular pets. It's quite concerning to see dogs roaming freely in their locations, some on leashes while others are simply being held by their owners.
I've actually taken the initiative to call SDCCU and explain my concerns, as I have been bitten by dogs in the past. It's not a pleasant experience, and it certainly doesn't feel safe for non-trained pets to be mingling with people who may not be comfortable around dogs. This is especially important for individuals with mobility issues, like myself, who may already face challenges in their daily lives. The last thing I want is to be bitten by a dog while trying to conduct my banking transactions.
It's disheartening to feel like SDCCU values dogs more than the safety of their own customers. Perhaps they should consider implementing stricter policies or guidelines regarding dogs in their branches. After all, customer safety should always be a top priority for any business.
If you have similar concerns or experiences, I encourage you to reach out to SDCCU and voice your thoughts. You can contact them at ***@sdccu. Let's hope they take our feedback seriously and make the necessary changes to ensure a safer environment for everyone.
Terrible Customer Service and Communication - Avoid This Mortgage Company!
So, I recently had my mortgage transferred to this new company, and let me tell you, it's been a real headache. I mean, it's been a whole 12 days and I still can't even access my loan! Like, seriously, what's the point of having a new company if they can't even do their job properly?
I decided to give them a call to set up my autopay because, you know, who has time to manually make payments every month? But guess what? The representative I spoke to had no clue about my payoff date. Can you believe that? She actually told me to send an email to their so-called "Investigation dept" just to get that information. Like, why can't they just tell me over the phone? It's not rocket science!
And here's the kicker - there's no phone number to complain about this whole mess. Can you believe it? It's like they don't even want to hear about the problems their customers are facing. The only option they give you is to write a letter. Yeah, because that's so convenient in this day and age. Oh, and let's not forget that their email keeps closing due to some "error with the url." Talk about frustrating!
Honestly, if you want a company that actually knows what they're doing when it comes to servicing mortgages, go with SDCCU. They may not be perfect, but at least they have a clue about how to provide information and actually listen to their customers. Trust me, you'll save yourself a whole lot of headache and frustration.
Terrible Customer Service at SDCCU Mission Viejo - Consider Alternative Banks
Unbelievable! I recently visited the Mission Viejo location of SDCCU (sdccu.com) to open a business bank account. Let me tell you, it was my second time going to this bank, and both times the customer service left much to be desired. The banker I dealt with, Vanessa Zoquiapa, was not knowledgeable, unwilling to help, and downright rude. I can't even remember why I walked out of the bank the first time, it was that bad!
Fast forward six months later, today, when I decided to give it another shot and open another bank account. But guess what? I had to walk away once again. Frustrated, I decided to try my luck at the Chase bank next door. And you know what? I successfully opened a bank account there without any hassle. It's not just me, though. My friend had a similar experience at SDCCU, and they too ended up walking away and opening an account at a different bank. We had the same documents in our hands, but the treatment we received from the bankers at the other bank was completely different. They were willing to go the extra mile to assist us.
It's truly disappointing when a bank fails to provide good customer service. Opening a bank account should be a simple and straightforward process, but SDCCU made it unnecessarily difficult. I'm glad I found a better option at Chase, and I would highly recommend others to consider alternative banks as well. Don't waste your time with SDCCU if you're looking for friendly and helpful service.
Extremely Disappointed with SDCCU's Unprofessionalism and Lack of Progress on HELOC Loan Application
SDCCU be like the most unprofessional organization I've ever dealt with, man. I applied for a HELOC loan on Feb 23, 2021, you know? I talked to this representative and answered like an hour of questions, which they always ask when you wanna get a loan, right? I sent in all the stuff they asked for within two days of applying. But guess what? It's been 92 days now and still no progress, bro. I've sent the same documents to their customer service rep so many times, I lost count. SDCCU keeps giving me excuses, man. First, they said a rep was sick, then they blamed it on high volume, then they said COVID messed up their office, and now they're saying I need more documents even though they said I was pre-approved. It's like they don't even know what they're doing, you know? I've asked to talk to a manager so many times, but they just give me phone numbers for Donald Jared and Beth Pierce. And guess what? Neither of them bothered to reach out to me in the past 30 days. This whole communication process with SDCCU is a total disaster, man. It's just not cool and definitely not satisfying, you feel me?
Terrible Customer Service and Lack of Empathy: My Disappointing Experience with SDCCU
I totally agree with a lot of the reviews about SDCCU's customer service being pretty poor. I went to their branch in Vista this afternoon and man, oh man, did I receive some lousy customer service from the branch manager. I mean, come on, especially during a pandemic, you'd think they would offer some basic kindness and understanding like other banks and institutions are doing to help folks who are struggling. But no, not these guys. They have absolutely no clue how to keep their customers happy.
Most of us are still trying to get back on our feet, you know? We're dealing with pending deposits and we know the money is on its way, but guess what? They still had the audacity to charge me four flat fees today, no matter how much the charges were. Can you believe that? They don't have an ounce of empathy or flexibility, even when they know someone is in dire need. It's just plain ridiculous.
Well, let me tell you, I've had enough. I'm closing my account and taking my business elsewhere. They just lost a loyal customer who has been banking with them for years. And honestly, I'm not surprised to hear that they're losing a bunch of customers already. Who wants to stick around with a bank that treats you like garbage?
So yeah, if you're looking for a bank that actually cares about its customers and treats them with respect, I suggest you steer clear of SDCCU. They clearly have no idea how to provide decent customer service, and it's about time we all took our money somewhere else. Trust me, you'll thank me later.
Fantastic Stay: A Luxurious Retreat with Exceptional Service
Over a year ago, I called to close this account as I moved out of California. Last month I stopped using Chrome and started using OPERA. OPERA pulled all info from CHROME and used my supposed to be closed account with SDCCU to pay my SW GAS bill. My fault for not double checking what account was listed. Now just today, I spent over an hour on hold, and another hour waiting for a call back to get this issue corrected and finally get this account closed. I have no clue how they keep getting voted as best credit union in SoCal. Last year at the end of August I called to close the account, middle of September rolled in, and I went to the website just to see if it was close. I was able to log in. I left them messages asking why the account was still open and active, I never once got a response from them. Now this issue. These people are completely incompetent.
Terrible Customer Service and Incompetence: A Nightmare Experience with this Bank
I really can't stand this bank! I've been a member since the 90's when it used to be good and I always loved it, but in the past 7 years, it has gone wayyy downhill! The El Cajon branch, Carmel mt, and Rancho Bernardo offices are so rude, it's unbelievable. They have no consistency or knowledge when you ask them a question. They barely work and act inconvenienced when you need their help! Many of the customer service representatives at the desks are incredibly rude and arrogant. I never thought I would have to deal with such narcissistic behavior from customer service reps. They sigh and groan if you ask them a question and they won't even bother to get help because they think they are always right!
Let me tell you about this one guy from the El Cajon branch. He prequalified me for an auto loan and when I told him the car I was looking at, he had the audacity to call me an idiot and told me to get a different car that he liked! He wasted a whole 30 minutes of my time, going on and on about his favorite car and trying to convince me like a pushy salesman. All I wanted was to leave!
When I got my mortgage loan through them, the loan representative would sometimes take days to respond and completely dropped the ball in the beginning. We had to push our escrow period from 30 days to 45 because of their incompetence. In the last week, I was waiting for an update on the loan and all she would say is that she didn't know if or when the loan would fund on time. Can you imagine the stress we were under, living in hotels and not knowing if our loan would go through on time? It was a nightmare! They always seem to add more stress to any situation. I dread having to deal with this bank!
A year after we bought our home, we received a refi offer from another bank that seemed like a great deal with no transfer fees. So, I thought of calling my bank to see if they could match or beat it. The guy I spoke to went on and on about how they don't make special exceptions for people and how they offer the same "great" (crappy) rate to everyone. He even had the nerve to imply that I probably didn't understand the offer clearly from the new bank! It's funny how they always blame the customer for being an idiot and not understanding anything! After telling him what I had, he was absolutely no help at all. Then, I received an email from them bragging about how great their bank is and how they offer great rates with no fees! I don't understand why the guy didn't inform me about their refi with no fees! He wasted my time and now I don't even care to investigate their rates because they are so uninformed and unprofessional. They have zero customer service skills and it's painfully obvious that customers come last to them.

I took money out of my account in March and it was overdrawn by $300
I took money out of my account in March and it was overdrawn by $300. I wasn’t able to work due to COVID-19, so I couldn’t get the money back in like I had planned. I was an Uber and Lyft driver but had to quit working. I was in a financial bind already from being in a head on collision right before COVID-19. I couldn’t go back to driving and started to look for other work. I called and explained my situation and told them when I started working again, I would pay. They said that would be ok and they would make a note of it. Unfortunately, things got worse with COVID-19 and a stay at home order was put into place. I got hired at a new job, but couldn’t start because of the pandemic so like many people, I was without a job and had no income coming in. I couldn’t even afford to eat. I got a threatening letter from the manager telling me I needed to make a payment, but I had already told them I didn’t have it. I got a message from Experian that there’s been a decline in my score. SDCCU decided to put a negative remark as a charged off account on all 3 credit bureaus as retaliation. We are in the middle of a pandemic and millions of people lost their jobs, including myself, yet somehow I was suppose to magically come up with money. I find this to be terrible customer service and extremely poor behavior on their part. I received some help from the government so I called to make a payment for deletion. I had every intention on paying it back, but not having income was through no fault of my own. I called and told them I’d make a payment for deletion and the representative told me they didn’t do that. Therefore, nothing got done. They shouldn’t have put it on there to begin with so it’s only fair they remove it. I cannot seem to get a hold of a decent and caring human being to take care of this issue therefore I’ve turned to the BBB. Moreover, they were mad I gave them a 1 star review on *** so this is their way of retaliating.

I received an unsolicited email (From: San Diego County Credit Union Accounts ******************
I received an unsolicited email (From: San Diego County Credit Union Accounts ***., Dated: March 20, 2020 with Subject: We’re here for your with Financial Relief!) from SDCCU stating that “loan payments are automatically getting deferred without even requiring to call them”. However, later I learned from their customer service representative(s) that automatic deferment did not apply to home equity loans account holders. I was later told that I was required to fill out a form to actually qualify for the deferment which I am sure I would have easily qualified. Please note that SDCCU email confused and misled me. The question here is why are there two different standards at SDCCU relief program(s)? Why is it that the home equity loan customers are required to fill out a special form to qualify and other loan payments automatically got deferred without even having to call or fill out any forms? All customers should be treated the same way. SDCCU must follow the “Principles of Fair Conduct” and should immediately cease the double-standard program(s) and rectify the past illicit acts. I also would like to express how bad SDCCU customer service representative named Ramel from the real estate department treated me during a phone call on July 30, 2020. He was screaming at me and would not even allow me to speak. He interrupted me over 15 times and ultimately told me that it is my fault for not reading the unsolicited email correctly. Ramel made me tremendously irate and I asked him to please transfer me to a manager, he said all managers are busy now but a manager named Wendy will call me later today. I never heard from Wendy that day so I called the next day (July 31, 2020) and asked to speak to a manager at the real estate department named Wendy. I was put on hold and was told after a few minutes that Wendy does not want to talk to me and the only person that would talk to me at this point is the collections department.

I have been using SDCCU for years and about 1 year ago they updated their online banking service that requires everyone to enroll into the new service. I did so right away. I use the app "Earnin" to help me through rough times right now during Covid to give me cash advances to help pay rent and bills, and they withdraw the money I owe them back when my next paycheck is deposited. They use "Plaid" to connect the app to my financial institution, SDCCU. There have been multiple incidents of connectivity issues the past few months but this one has been unresolved for two weeks and because of SDCCU's failure to provide services, I am unable to use Earnin to help pay my rent that is due. I first contacted Earnin, who told me that it is my financial institution that is having a problem connecting and to reach out to them. So I did, and after being on hold for over an hour, a customer service rep from SDCCU told me that due to their new online banking, new security protocols have been in place that will not allow third parties to connect to my account. I even asked if I could give permission in ANY WAY to which he stated no. So basically SDCCU has restricted me from being able to use third party apps that need to connect to my account. I have seen multiple posts online from OTHERS that use SDCCU that are frustrated with not being able to use third party apps as well. They should be able to fix this issue, but each time I ask them, they keep stating they cannot do anything at all about it. That it is out of their hands. This is ridiculous and unbelievable that they cannot do anything to fix THEIR OWN system and THEIR faults in their system.
This "credit union" totally screwed my credit for no good reason!. I stopped using my checking account in march due to moving out of the area and switching to another bank. I forgot to close the account. Unbeknownst to me, I accidentally selected my sdccu checking account to make a payment on a credit card. This put my account in the negative. I had no idea and was never called about it. The only correspondence I recieved was an email about an "e notice" from sdccu, which I ignored because i figured it was regarding a statement being available or something innocuous. They didn't bother to give me a curtesy before reporting the collection to the credit bureaus, dinging my flawless credit report. My fico score went from 780 to 646. My plans to purchase a home are severely impacted now. I thought credit unions were supposed to be member owned and consumer friendly; not this one!I found out about the overdraft completely by chance, i thought i had a small positive balance in the account so i logged in to transfer it out and close the account. By that time, they had already closed my account and i was unable to pay it online. I called in and they informed me i would have to mail the balance or come in person to pay it. I happened to be back in *** temporarily for work so i planned on going on the weekend to the branch to pay it off. Before i made it there it had already hit my credit! This is so disappointing that SDCCU made no effort to inform me of this tiny $220 debt before seriously s*** up my life. Who knows how many tens of thousands of dollars this will cost me interest in the future, if i can even qualify for financing now...
on 1/18/2021 I noticed an overdraft fee of $32, the next day a post for CLEARME.COM from the *** hit my account for an annual fee of $179, the company has cancelled my 30 day trial and refunded this immediately, I have an email to prove it, the money was back in my account the very next day. I received another $32 overdraft fee, now we are up to 2, despite nothing else posting. Then my mom accidentally pays her *** of America Credit card using my account (which I had tried paying her *** for her months ago online, unsuccessfully (ended up paying it in person here in San Diego, she lives in ***, she is in her 70s age wise). She made a mistake, she fixed it immediately and sent the money via ZELLE, it is also already in my account. I called SDCCU to explain 2 events happened a little beyond my control but it would be reversed immediately. I asked them to kindly REMOVE the $96 in fees, to please be understanding and sympathetic that sometimes errors occur, but can be fixed quickly. They always tell you no, they never show empathy or compassion, they just take take take your money. In this instance, I believe they should of granted me a set of courtesy refunds, especially since they can see today it is all fixed and reversed. I feel this company has horrible customer service, they do not put their customers first, they do not make you feel like a valued customer that they want your business. I am GRAVELY disappointed at how this was handled and lack of customer service. I have direct deposit, I have over $1600 already showing pending also, but this bank refuses to consider anything.
I have emailed proof of insurance on my vehicle numerous times. Both personally and directly from my agent. Both a declaration page as well as proof, listing them as an additional insured. They have NEVER responded to my emails, nor my agent's. However, today I received a letter that they were adding over $3000 to my payments for "insurance coverage". I have called and sat on the phone for HOURS trying to get someone to ever answer the line (I would encourage someone else to call the 800 # and see how long before someone picks up). Last time (Jan 20th) it took an 80 minutes before someone took the call, only to transfer me to another department. In the event these were STILL not the proper documents, any decent human could have advised me before adding a surcharge. Thank goodness it is only a car loan I am dealing with, since live people are nearly non-existent in this organization.
Terrible Customer Service and Ridiculous Fees: Avoid SDCCU Bank
This bank, SDCCU, has the worst customer service ever, I tell ya! Their fees are just plain ridiculous, I mean, who charges that much? And don't even get me started on their online app, it's never accurate! I've had so many issues with it, it's just not reliable at all. Trust me, folks, do yourselves a favor and stay away from this bank. I should've stuck with boa, that's for sure.

Terrible Customer Service at SDCCU: No Call Backs, Avoid Contact
I've been in the "call back" queue for three days straight, but I never received a call back. The customer service at SDCCU is just terrible. If you have any questions or need assistance, don't even bother reaching out to them. It's honestly a complete joke!
SDCCU's Shady Silence: Unfair Separation Agreements and Covering Up Wrongdoing
San Diego County Credit Union (SDCCU) be trippin' with their requirement of separation agreements for employees who get the boot and peep some shady stuff goin' down. They be sayin' that if you wanna get your severance pay, you gotta keep your mouth shut and not snitch to the government about the wrongdoing you witnessed. That ain't cool, man!
I mean, come on now, SDCCU! Why you gotta be all sneaky and try to cover up your dirty laundry? It ain't right to silence employees who wanna blow the whistle on some foul play. We should be encouraging people to speak up and expose any shady business practices, not makin' 'em sign agreements to keep quiet.
I stumbled upon this info on LinkedIn, where they were talkin' about a case in the 9th Circuit Court. Apparently, some attorneys named Carlton Roark were callin' out SDCCU for their criminal conspiracy. They be sayin' that these separation agreements are just a way for SDCCU to protect themselves and sweep any wrongdoing under the rug.
Now, I ain't no legal expert or nothin', but this don't sit right with me. It feels like SDCCU tryin' to bully their employees into keepin' their mouths shut. That ain't how things should be done, man. We gotta stand up for what's right and make sure these big corporations are held accountable for their actions.
So, if you think about joinin' SDCCU or you already a member, you might wanna think twice. Do you really wanna support a credit union that tries to silence their own employees? I know I wouldn't. There's plenty of other options out there, man. Don't settle for a place that don't value honesty and transparency.
In the end, it's up to you, my friend. But remember, we gotta stick together and fight against these injustices. SDCCU may have made some mistakes, but it's up to us to hold 'em accountable. Let's make sure they know that we won't stand for this kind of shady behavior. Peace out, y'all!
