Dear sir:
My doctor prescribed to me plendil (Felodipine) 2.5 mg. I got my prescription filled from shoppers drug mart store # 0307 (755 lake bonavista dr. Se, calgary, ab) , but instead of the 2.5mg tablets which the doctor had prescribed your pharmacist dispensed 5mg tablets with instructions on the bottle to take (1/2) tablet once daily. When I discovered this at home, I went back to the pharmacy with a copy of the cps (Compendium of pharmaceuticals and specialties) which clearly stated that this medication should be & ldquo;swallowed whole and not crushed or chewed”. The pharmacist at that time (Mr. Farrukh) argued that this does not mean that the tablet should not be broken, even after I informed him that there is no grove in the tablet that shows it can be broken into halves. He also informed me that there is no 2.5mg generic of this medication and if I want 2.5mg tablets I have to pay the difference between the brand name and the generic. After more than 10 minutes of futile discussion I left the store with the 5mg tablets.
When I phoned alberta blue cross which covers my medication, I was surprised to know that there is 2.5mg generic of this medication and was also surprised to know that the brand name of this medication is cheaper than the generic.
Since I am now stuck with the 5mg tablets which I cannot use, I appreciate your proper action in order for me to get the right dose which the doctor has prescribed to me.
Your cooperation is greatly appreciated;
Yours sincerely;

arrogant
Terrible customer service. Once they have that prescription you are obligated to purchace future refills from them. Theyve got you ergo they can give you the worst service ever. In the real world you have to be friendly to your customers. You acknowledge their presence with a friendly smile or possibly say hello. When I said I wanted my prescription back because I had to wait an hour to pick it up and that in the future I would like to take my business to a pharmacy that was less busy I was told I couldnt have it. I was told I was being unreasonable and worse for wanting the jump the line.
Wow! Is this not a free world where you should be able to do business with a retailer of your choice? I wont be visiting ANY Shoppers Drug Marts in the future.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I don't know why they wouldn't give you your prescription back. If it has not yet been filled (and since it's not a forgery), then you have the right to go a less busy pharmacy. If they ended up already irreversibly mixing something in order to fill your prescription, then they might have had a reason to be annoyed. Otherwise, I'd think they should be happy for you to go somewhere that fit your schedule, instead of trying to pressure them like some people do.
Once you've filled a prescription at a pharmacy, they have to keep that piece of paper. However, most prescriptions (with refills remaining) can be transferred to another pharmacy. Narcotic and controlled drugs can't be transferred. Certain targeted substances can only be transferred a total of one time. Just remember that both pharmacies have to be open for the transfer to take place.
Good luck with your next pharmacy.
Renfrewite,
I have been doing customer service for over 30 years at Shoppers and just about everyone loves my store. If you hate Shoppers so much, then go elsewhere and don't spread the gossip and hate as it will do you no good.
Henni Katzer,
I am sorry you had a bad experience. Have you contacted the store Associate (Owner) for an explanation? I know this store and believe that stress got to the staff. Unfortunately our head office has been cutting back everyone's hours and increased their workload ten-fold. It is not an excuse, just a possible explanation for their behaviour. To clarify the "being asked to leave", every store has that right as you are technically on private property. They also do not have to explain themselves to you at the time that they ask you to leave either. They would have to explain themselves however if you were to ask them later or file a complaint with our head office.
If you wish to file a complaint, please do NOT do it by email or telephone. Write a letter and make sure you have the date in question, people involved and what exactly happened. When you are done that, mail it to the attention of Mr. Jurgen Shreiber, CEO Shoppers Drug Mart. Do not mail it to any other person if you want the quickest possible action. If that does not generate anything, then you have two options. Either you pursue other venues (e.g. newspaper editor, blogs such as Facebook, this board, etc...) or you drop it and move forward to another store.
Take care and don't let one bad experience stop you as there are still lots of good people left in shoppers. Try the smaller stores like the one I am at, we are not perfect but we are better then most.

They were arrogant to say you couldn't have your prescription back, they should have told you that you can go to another drug store, and have that drug store call to have the prescription transferred over to them. I hate shoppers drug marts, they are all the same with poor service.
Kinda bad to blame all shopper's drug marts because you don't like the service at one. We use shopper's drug marts and haven't had this problem with any of them. In fact we had one prescription refilled at another drug store all together (ben's pharmacy). They just took the prescription from the pill bottled and called shopper's for a transfer.
Maybe's it's a matter of location...or pharmacist. I dunno. Never had any problems with them.
inconsiderate and arrogant pharmacists
I phoned this 24 hour Shoppers Drug Mart and I explained to the Pharmacist that I got my prescription logged in another Shoppers branch but would like to get the prescription in their store since I need the medicine by morning and the branch that logged my prescription was already closed. I explained that the other pharmacist said to just show the other branch the piece of paper showing my logged prescription and they will be able to fill me one. This pharmacist in the 11408 Jasper Ave location said yes to me on the phone and when I got there driving for about 20 minutes near midnight and just coming after an evening shift the pharmacist said he couldn't fill it out since they can't "contact anybody from the store" where I got the logged prescription from. Of course they wouldn't be able to talk to them because they are already closed and for the exact reason I phoned them is that they are a 24-hour dispensing pharmacy. What peeved me on end is they guy saying "yes you can come here and we'll fill it" and then give me some lame excuse that it can't be done because it's not following a procedure that they need to talk to another pharmacy first before they could fill it. I know the guy is probably just being lazy or very inconsiderate because before I was able to transfer prescriptions to another shoppers branch because the branch I go to was close for the holidays. At that time all they have to do was to honor the refill remaining as stated on the box of the medicine and faxed the home pharmacy in the morning. If they can do it there why can't the Shopper's at 11408 Jasper Ave could not do it? They even went as far as lecturing me why I'm getting my pills late and that I should not be changing pharmacies. It's just too arrogant that they wouldn't even consider the fact they said yes to me on the phone and made me believe I could have the prescription filled. I have nothing but good experiences with Shopper's Drug Mart before but this one experience really ruined their reputation for me. Where's the customer service? The two pharmacists 'ganged' up on me smirking and lecturing me how wrong I was. I am so peeved I vow never to return to that store again where the pharmacy is manned by arrogant and incompetent pharmacists.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
The pharmacist is the person who told him it was acceptable policy in the first place and he phoned the other pharmacy and confirmed before he drove all that way. If the pharmacists don't know the procedure themselves or are too lazy and/ or incompetent to give proper information, then they are in the wrong, not the customer. How arrogant and rude are the responses here. They sound like responses from arrogant Shoppers Drug Mart Pharmacists which is probably exactly what they are. If the head Shoppers Drug Mart office would respond to this very legitimate complaint by laughing at you, I would say that Shoppers Drug Mart does not deserve your business. (I would recommend that you "email this to head office" and see if they are as rude and arrogant as their employees.) In addition, he did not "get lucky" if someone did this for him before, what he got was another pharmacist who did not know or follow policy. This whole situation could have been avoided but for the incompetent behavior of the pharmacists in question. It is reassuring to know that the people who are doing the very important job of preparing and handling our medications are such consummate professionals.
you need to know the rules in pharmacy before you go ranting about pharmacist's screwing you out of filling you rx.
When you go to a different pharmacy and want an RX transferred, it's the LAW that they need to contact your
usual pharmacy before filling it. Instead of complaining, you should have done a little research on this before making
yourself look like a complete idiot. I hope you didn't email this to head office...they will laugh at you.
I find that most pharmacists are either arrogant or have very poor social skills so I am not shocked by this story. I suspect that the problem mostly came out of a failure to communicate properly in the first place and then escalated.
Essentially, I agree with "aufu", but I'll provide some further explanation. While my comments come from experience in Ontario, I believe that this is pertinent to this situation too.
If someone told you that that you could come in to fill the prescription at the 24-hour store without contacting the original pharmacy, that person was mistaken. The pharmacist at the original pharmacy should have made it clear that *both* stores need to be open for a prescription transfer to happen. Even just this past shift, I was explaining this to a patient in order to make her future transfer go more smoothly.
Prescriptions only exist in one pharmacy at a time. Pharmacies can't see into each others' files. While this predates computers, I suspect that it persists for security and privacy reasons now (as well as some concurrency issues). The receiving pharmacist is supposed to get the prescription transferred before filling it. Occasionally, a pharmacist might defer the completion of the transfer until the morning, but this might get that pharmacist in a bit of trouble.
As "aufu" said, if someone did this for you before, you got lucky. It is not valid to assume that a pharmacist is "probably lazy" or "inconsiderate" because they choose to observe the law instead.
If the pharmacist doesn't receive the transfer before filling the prescription, there is the possibility of being left hanging. I have had prescription transfer requests get drawn out because the prescription was already transferred to a different store and filled. I have had ones where there were no repeats to transfer because the prescription was already filled after the date on the label that showed a refill remaining.
The label, or the receipt-like slip of paper given to you, just makes it much quicker for the receiving pharmacy to contact the correct original pharmacy, and for the original pharmacy to find the desired prescription. It is not a real-time guarantee to the receiving pharmacist that there is a valid medication to be filled at the original pharmacy.
Yes, it is true that refills should not be left to the last minute. You might experience delays because of the pharmacy being busy at the time, or because the pharmacy might be temporarily out of your medication. It also helps the pharmacy work more efficiently evening out the workload, so that the pharmacist can be more available to speak about medications, answer questions and to address issues.
Yes, it is better to remain at the same pharmacy as much as possible. It allows for checking for medication incompatibilities, checking timing. Also, especially for regular but uncommon medicines, it helps the pharmacy know how much stock to keep of a particular medicine, so that it is more likely to be available to fill when it is needed.
However, you probably should have been told by the original pharmacy that you need to make sure that the transfer request come when they are there to process it. Also, before you made the drive out in the middle of the night, you should have been told that a transfer can't be completed while a pharmacy is closed.
wow... get over it. They are following procedure, if someone did do this for you before they were in the wrong and you go tlucky.
expired medicine
I purchased Infacol for my infant daughter on Aug 11, 2009 at our local Shoppers Drugmart. Gave Infacol to my daughter for 2 weeks and medication was completely not working. She was constantly crying and unsettled, feeding very little and sleeping irregularly. Two weeks later, I happened to notice the expiry date on the Infacol and it said 30/06/08! This bottle of Infacol was expired for over 1 year! I went into Shoppers the same day, and eventually spoke with manager, who basically offered me an apology and said these things happen from time to time! How can a pharmacy not care at all knowing fully that they have poisoned this little infant?
Any ideas on where I can go to complain? I've already called the college of pharmacists and the ministry of health.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
It is not poison. It just won't work as well. I have taken expired medications for years. Every medication has a date on ONLY because federal law says it must, . It does not become toxic. it just loses it's efficiency at a rate of about 10% per year.
An expired ANYTHING should NOT be on the shelf for purchase in ANY store whether it is toxic or benign
Contact a lawyer and sue them! Keep the bottle, and receipt to prove date of purchase. Shoppers drug mart is bad for selling expired crap, the same thing happened to me, but mine was foot cream, so not life threatening. I have reported them to the health board, but you should sue since it's something that was taken internally.
Hello,
I was looking for info when i found this page.
I had the same problem: bought some tablets at Shopper two days ago, and upon coming home and opening the bottle, i noticed that it is already expired.
i am not sure where to complain, and if it will have any result at all.
discrimination & banned from shoppers with no reason given
I am writing this complaint to let as many people as I can see how discriminatory & rude Shoppers Drug Mart can be. I was receiving Methadone from Shoppers Drug mart store #2207 for quite some time. And no I'm not an uncontrollable junkie, people need to stop with the stigma, my purpose for taking Methadone was because my x family Dr got me addicted to...

Shoppers drug mart has a wonderful return policy, that allows return of items in a different branch. However, I met the rudest supervisor today at ubc shoppers by the name of sunny. I went to the ubc shoppers branch to return a faulty standing fan I bought at another branch. Upon seeing the fan, sunny told me that there is no space at her store to place the fan and demanded rudely, that I return the $10 voucher I got for spending more than $50 at shoppers today. She later remarked that her store no longer carry such fans and that I should go back to the store which I bought the fan for a refund in future. To save myself from further embarassment, I quickly handed her the $10 voucher I got, and left the store immediately after I got the refund facilitated. A terrible and most embarrassing encounter with a supervisor!
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Why did you just stand there and take the abuse? I would have demanded a refund on the items you purchased that day that gave you the $10 gift card. As for the fan, well, I guess I'd bite the bullet on that and return it to the same location where it was purchased.
rude, racist, poor service
I am a brown skin woman and I was there on a weekday in the afternoon for the first time at that store to purchase some flyer items.
A white cashier named Linda, looked at me disgustingly and said arrogantly you black people can only afford sale price items. There is a limit of 4 per customer. You were here the other day and got the same items.
She asked me to leave because the owner said only 4 items per customer. She said our owner is black and her boss was black too. What are you going to complain about your black skin?
What an experience for shopping there for the first time.

Damn! I live here in the states, but I really had my heart set on relocating to canada. But I must say I'm really surprised that
even happened to you two considering the fact that I've always been told that canadians were a helluva lot nicer, and much more
friendlier than us over here in the states. Just what I heard that's all!
I TOTALLY AGREE!
I just called the pharmacy and they are RUDE. After telling me they didnt have my medication, they just hung up the phone without saying bye...how hard is to say BYE before hanging up the phone to someone!?!?! NO MANNERS at all here. I will never shop there !

DO NOT buy your prescription at McCowan and Lawrence location.
According to the owner FLORA.. they filled my prescription based on assumption from my last refil. Even IF I told them that I only need 1, the went ahead..ASSUMED if I may say so...and filled my presciption to the max (which is NOT cheap).
Ofcourse every one at this location do not remember speaking to me about my order or the amount I ordered. Which I was already expecting since it's worth almost $2000.00.
So please people go to the one at McCowan and Ellesmere or Brimley and Eglinton instead. It's just 1 major intersection and they are much more nicer and knowledgable. They do NOT ### ume either like Flora the NO GOOD owner from McCowan and Lawrence - Store # 501

I haven't been to Shopper's for a prescription in many years. They charge high fees and the wait times are long. Most of their pharmacists are good but there are some that really don't have much to offer. I found a small independent pharmacy that I am completely loyal to. they do not charge me any out of pocket fees for dispensing and it is a very well run place. I never have to wait more than two minutes to have my prescriptions filled. The pharmacists on duty are always helpful and knowledgeable. One even went so far as to help me find a specialist - the best I have ever been too. I think the best strategy is to find a good pharmacy that specializes in medicine (not perfume) and stick with them.
destroyed photo's
I decided to go to Shoppers for the convience of their Photo Lab being only a short walk from my house. I told the lady behind the counter that my film was true black and white three times and she confirmed she heard me. She said they would be done on Monday. I went back every day until Thursday until I phoned. She the lady who I understand her name to be Heather said to me: I put them through the machine and they wont go through our machine so I have to send them out now however they havent unrolled or anything.. I said no I will just take them else where. She said she would leave them on the counter for me. I got there. I got my envelope off the counter. Got my car. She had lied. The we not and I repeat WERE NOT in the canister they were bunched up in a ball over exposed in an evelope. I called the manger the next day and she had the photo Lab Manager Phone me back whose name is Rob. He accused me of not putting my camera properly and that it was my own fault and he had written on the envelope blank role. He did not do this and I had brought to blacks (The one and only true photo store) and she looked at them and was able to tell me they were run their (Shoppers Drug Mart's) Color Photo machine and that is how they got destroyed. Spent an hour on hold with customer service only to be Disconnected! The battle continues!

Nine years ago, I used Sears to redo my roof. They dropped a large pack of shingles on a small patio on the second floor and cracked the granite. Sears replaced the granite but washed the new granite with acid which leaked into our copper gutters. Our gutters are ruined ONLY around the patio and a professional roofer assessed that the damage has come from the acid which Sears used to wash the installed granite. It takes some time for the acid to eat through the copper. Replacement of the gutters will cost $15, 000. Sears has not even sent anyone to look at the damage and each of my calls to their call centre gets passed to the roofing department who has never called me back. Beware of Sears' guarantee on any of their work. Even though they are a North American wide company, they do NOT act responsibly and are NOT trustworthy.
Wait what does a Sears complaint have to do with pharmaprix?

Thursday, Aug 28 at least 20 attempts to contact store from 11 AM to 2.30 PM letting phone ring 20 or more times with no answer. I hope nothing serious is wrong and that communication will be restored shortly. I need to renew prescriptions.
Have been getting prescriptions at the Drug Store at Greenbank Mall 250 Greenbank Road for over 25 years. This drugstore has recently been taken over by Shoppers Drugmart. I submitted 16 prescriptions from the Doctor to cover me until December on 6 sheets on the 16th of June . Copies of the prescriptions were made. Over the next month and a half I received some drugs off the list. In November when I needed a refill I was told I had no refills. Copies were taken to the store to show that I had submitted the prescriptions. The clerk rudely told me I never submitted the prescriptions implying that I was lying when I insisted. If she had been polite and admitted there was an oversite I would have understood and thought nothing of it. Instead I have taken my business elsewhere.
