I went to Costco on 10/04/2023 specifically to by my normal brand of cat litter. Unfortunately they were out, but they did have one called Simply Purrfect cat litter. Being desperate I decided to try this new litter. Big mistake! The next day I threw out my used litter, and washed everything out replacing it with Simply Purrfect litter. A few days later I noticed my indoor cat would occasionally purr but with his mouth open. Thinking he had just been overly stimulated I didn’t think too much about it. On 10/12/2023 I noticed a huge change in his demeanor. He was lethargic, doing a lot of “loafing” in places he’s never laid down on in the house. I also noticed rapid mouth breathing. I immediately called the vet and they were able to get him in right away. After an examination my vet wanted to sedate my cat so they could do X-rays to determine what was causing this. The doctor also gave him an injection of steroids thinking this would help with his lungs until a diagnosis could be read by a radiologist. After a couple of hours I was able to bring him home. He went straight to our room and laid on our bed sitting in an upright position for almost 5-hours struggling to breath with his mouth open. The report came back the same day and the vet called to tell me that he was diagnosed with cat asthma. The vet said his injection of steroids would last until the next day but to come pick up a prescription of steroids. The dosage is 1 tablet twice a day for a month. This veterinary visit cost me almost $1000.00. My cat has never, ever had issues with breathing until I bought this new litter. I know it was this litter that caused this asthmatic episode. It would be nice if this company would do the right thing and reimburse me for my veterinary visit. I have my Costco receipt, the UPC code of the litter, all of my veterinary receipts, and the radiologists report, and the receipt for his prescription. It’s not a coincidence that this “just happened “. It was this litter.
Desired outcome: Reimbursement for my veterinary expenses. I’d appreciate a response. I have copies of everything if needed.
HERE'S ANOTHER REASON TO STAY FAR AWAY FROM SIMPLY PURRFECT LITTER. Not sure what's in this litter, but the slightest bit of water turns the litter into a gluey mess. So if your cat inadvertently steps in his water dish and a while later goes into the litter box, he will have a gluey mess all over his foot and you have to shower them. Even cleaning out the litter box it stuck to the bottom of the box and as soon as I tried to spray it out with the hose I have the same gluey mess. I tried to clean off the scoop in my sink and now i'm afraid I will have to call a rooter to clean out the same gluey mess. I'm afraid that if we hadn't caught my cat stepping out of the litter box, that they would try to lick it off and end up with a gluey mess in their intestines and I would end up with a $1000 vet bill. AVOID! AVOID! AVOID! AVOID! AVOID! AVOID!
