My husband is retired military, and we live near Rehoboth so we stopped in to get a drink. The barmaid said that he needed to be member, asked for military id, then said we had to sign in as well. I signed in.
We ordered drinks, and she served us but then when we tried to pay, she announced that they only accepted cash not credit cards. No mention of this was made prior to ordering. My husband said she could keep the drinks then because we only carry credit cards. She became confrontational, trying to block us from leaving, saying we could not use the exit and was verbally abusive as we proceeded to our car, following us out the door, . She tried to stop me( wife) and called my husband and I "[censored]" who thought they were "entitled" . I responded that she is the [censored] and I am far more entitled than she, my husband having served his country for his whole career, and my having been a military wife for 20 years. She continued to yell at us outside as we went to our car.
We have travelled all over the country to VFW's and American Legions and never received this kind of treatment. Post 5 says they are the friendliest Post on the Coast, but that is a lie. I could not believe that a retired teacher and former Chief would be given this kind of reception.
hey just stop going The American Legion all of them are abusive power hungry they dont care about u
Jessica, with all due respect, that is not the best solution. The American Legion takes membership dues and then when a member is mistreated, they want that "member in good standing" to leave. I am one for fighting their culture.
First of all you're acting a bit "entitled" as well saying because you are "the wife" of a vet that you're somehow more important... Remember, your just the wife, nothing more, nothing less. Anyway, stop going to American Legion posts if you don't like it.
You should have called the cops from the parking lot.
